I knew it was going to be good when i saw a packed parking lot. I have to say not only is food excellent but they run this like a well oiled machine. Service is on point! They raised the bar for excellent service and great food. This is an old school diner with a variety of food to choose from.
Went to pick up my boys from the airport and stopped here because I was a little early. As soon as I stepped in I knew I was gonna like it because I'm a big fan of hole in the wall spots. Big portions, low prices compared to back home (MD) and it was good, especially the bacon. Don't overthink it, if you're close and hungry just eat here.
Tel-Wink is probably the best diner I've been to. Their service is quick and although they are busy, they seat you quickly too. The servers are attentive. The portions are large, so come with an appetite. The menu is extensive, so there's many options to choose from. I'd recommend this place over Waffle House if you're looking for a similar place.
This place makes you feel like you are going to be taken well care of. Food is delicious and staff is great. I like the vibes the place has.
Great service good food and if you want the best server go to olgas área she is the sweetest !
The BREAKFAST is DELICIOUS!!! Nice portions, tasty, and at a great price. But...don't expect a "fine-dining" experience. It's a diner. Booths, tables, and counter-top service. When busy, there may be a slight wait. Parking...however and wherever you can find a spot. You'll see when you go...but that food is ON POINT! (If you agree with this review &/or if you find it helpful, please LIKE.)
Food and service were great! Went for lunch and was not disappointed.
We absolutely loved the atmosphere, the food, and the people. The breakfast was above and beyond quality and quantity and served with a smile.
I’d say Tel-Wink and Simos up in Garden Oaks are tied for the top diner in Houston. Delicious food, great ambience, and friendly service at a good value.
Reasonable price love the food recommend anybody that looking for good breakfast
What a great place. Up to covid rules mask, 6feet, very clean. Now food was great i had the French toast witch my camera did take a picture of Scrabbled eggs biscuits and gravy. My friend had a chicken fried steak mashed potatoes an cabbage the only food picture takin. Great service great food great coffee great tea. Great atmosphere. Thank y'all 💓 😘
The food is flavorful and the portions are nice size. I visit mainly on my lunch break. I normally get the chicken fried chicken w/ double mash potatoes. 🫶🏾The wait is not very long. Unless you come in the mornings then you would have to wait in long lines the food is so good at a decent price.
met my friends for breakfast and the food was A1..100% recommend the fried CATFISH platter..its not swai or basa either..the prices were far cheaper than some of those other breakfast places...as long as you're not bougie about the location and the café type atmosphere, you will enjoy it...cant wait to get back
Karen is the best waitress there! We've been going there for years. The food is always good no matter what you get.
Since the 90’s I’ve been a customer. I’ve only ordered the chicken fried chicken going all the way back to the late 90’s. It’s only until just this year that I’ve been able to go early to eat breakfast, that’s also great! Good food, great memories and wonderful staff!
If you are a breakfast person and you have not tried this establishment you are doing a discredit to your taste buds. Tel-Wink has been around as long as Timmy Chan's. The food here is remarkable. At 5:30 this morning I left my house drove this morning all the way from Katy to 45 and Telephone Road for this breakfast (55min).
Really good food! Our waitress Olga was outstanding!! She has been working there for 30 yrs. She has an Amazing personality. Truly a wonderful person ❤️
Great food and service. It's just a tad bit crowded but overall great experience.
Great Breakfast and Great Prices! Vintage diner with a variety of menu selections. We ordered Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Hashbrowns, Toast & French Toast. Everything was delicious! The French Toast and Eggs were light and fluffy! The staff was friendly and attentive. We will return to try their dinner selections.
The portion sizes are filling. The French toast is delicious, and so is the beef sausage. The chicken and gravy were tasty. I did not care for their hash browns. Mine seemed to be burned. I wanted to try their biscuits, but the lady gave me toast instead of my preferred biscuits. The service was fast and the food was not expensive.
I pulled in here for an early lunch before my flight home. I grew up in SE Houston in the 70s and early 80s but had never been here. I knew when I saw the parking lot nearly full at 11 AM on a Monday that it was going to be good. Old school diner with huge portions and good prices. I had meatloaf with gravy, spinach, and cornbread. More than I could finish. $10. Getting waited on took a little while, but from there, all great. They have daily specials and serve breakfast all day. I suggest getting there early for lunch. Great place.
I love this place. Came here as a kid. Have built a nice relationship with some of the staff. It feels like home when I get there.
Mami's sausage, bacon, and cheese omelet was quite tasty!! I always enjoy the Tex-Mex jalapeño sausage and egg sandwich, no lettuce or tomato for me, please, and thank you. I didn't try my Daddy's Ranchero omelet, but he seemed to really enjoy it. He's a tiny little thing now, so I was quite surprised he just about finished it, being 3 whole eggs! Lol And well, the pancake never disappoints.
The last time (of many times) I ate there was around 1967 when I was in high school. My best friend's parents were paying the bill. Had a wonderful chicken fried steak.
This is a classic working-man diner. Do not expect any of the undeserved pretentiousness of a place that serves multiple types of avocado toast. This is where you go for standard breakfast fare in large quantity at a great price. Well made eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon and the expected sides served quickly with a coffee (not espresso) and orange juice. It was great.
Tel-Wink Grill gives you a Great dinner experience. I went there on a Sunday morning and the place was packed with people standing in line outside to get in. There was just a small wait time but not by much. Lots of Wonderful n Delicious choices on the menu. I ordered the Spinich n Mushroom omelet with Swiss cheese let me tell you lots of flavor and a rather large portion that included fluffy hash browns n soft biscuits. My Girl had the veggie omelet with a side of extra crispy beacon. The service was top notch. We never had to call anyone over our server continued to fill our drinks and get our food order filled quickly. They also offer Great deserts. I will definitely be back to try something different. I highly recommend it!😋🍳🥚
A hidden secret-what some may call a “hole in the wall” cafe, with surroundings that are raw, but be certain you will be safe! Being a native Houstonian by 4 gen, I had never known of this cafe. Several yrs ago my SNL introduced it to me & I’ve loved it. Plus yesterday, brother and i had breakfast but i was insanely surprised by the dessert items that hit the sweet spot of its “almond” pastries. I am praying they wont disappear & pls forgive me for the pic bites!
for our first time we had great service, super even though it was extremely busy at breakfast time. The employees are attentive and a delight as well as the customers. great atmosphere and the food is as amazing as the price point! would come back when i get the chance to!
Recently ordered to go from here a chicken fried chicken plate. Man oh man! So first let me start off by saying the proportions are great! That plate lasted me all day! It was hot, fresh and so delicious. You can never go wrong ordering from this amazing establishment. And whoever cooked my meal, thankyou and God bless you!
Tel-wink has been my place since I was a kid. This is "our place" in my family that we go to for every single celebration or just because. New friend? Gotta take them to Telwink! It's so so good. The food is out of this world amazing! Good home cooking at a great price! This is the local place people are always looking to find that is just so dang good! I can not recommend it enough! Y'all come eat here and you'll see what I mean!
This place is awesome! The food is great, the service is super nice, and the prices are good too. My kids love it and always finish all their food every time we come.
This was a lively little neighborhood place. The staff were kind and efficient. The food was typical diner fare. They were out of the special - it was 11:30. They were out of the strawberry cake. I'll have to come back.
A landmark on Telephone! This lovely establishment recently reinvented itself by upgrading a lot of the scenery and signage. But the atmosphere is still the homey feeling I have always loved. Our server was the wonderful storyteller, Ms.Karen. lovely lady with a pep in her step as she danced to the music in the restaurant. The food was delicious as always. It feels good to call it Home.❤️
This is an unbelievably busy breakfast place. And it’s worth it. I’m sorry, but photos does not do the food justice. It is home cooking perfection. Service is fast, efficient and with a smile. Also: this place has a lot of regulars - always a good sign. Bonus: Check out the Greek baked goods. Baklava, Melomakarona etc.
An Nastolgic Experience with today's meals...The entrees were beautiful and tasteful,(servings large enough to feed at least two). So many options to choose, toast, or biscuits,(with breakfast, large fluffy biscuits, like Grandma's), and if you like, you could select half hashbrowns and half grits.. The waitress was extremely helpful and patient. It felt like I'd traveled back in time, especially with the prices!!! Bring your appetites, and all of your folks, (especially visiting family), Tel-Wink Grill, will for sure be a favorite! To top it all off, I went to pay the tab, and another patron, blessed us with the honors!!!
On yesterday my coworker picked up me some breakfast. Everything was excellent and the portions that you as well as the price I could not believe. I did feel robbed when I paid for my meal. I feel that your ratings should be around 4.9 to 5.0 please continue serving up Excellent food as well as Customer Service.
Oh if I could write a novel about how much I love this place I would. The food the environment I loved it . The way that the atmosphere is so homey ! The service is beyond great and the manager is always so welcoming and polite. He goes by every table and check on his customers. When you go there you feel like family and it shows
Listen......you want to keep a place like this in your back pocket. It gives "diner" or "small Mom and Pop" vibes but there's ample seating and they serve breakfast and lunch. Get there before 12pm if you want biscuits. Your food is cooked to order fresh. I had a veggie omelet and yes, I put sugar on my grits! Everything was served hot. There are some honorable mentions: Watch out for huge potholes in the parking lot The orange juice was not fresh. There's only two stalls in the women's restroom. You will only see your waiter maybe once after the food is served. After eating, you take your ticket to the front cashier to pay. I left with a full belly!
New to Texas, my husband and I found this place online and decided to drive the 50 minutes on a mid Saturday morning to try it out, hoping we’d find our new go-to breakfast place. We had a little bit of a wait, but I expected this, having read some of the reviews. We didn’t wait more than 15 minutes and it would have been shorter if we wanted to sit at the bar (we declined twice so if you’re cool at the counter, you’ll probably have a shorter wait). Once we were sat, we were quickly greeted by a gentleman who asked us what we wanted to drink. We were able to place our order without much wait at all and the food came out within a really reasonable time frame- not so fast that it had been made beforehand, He got the western omelet with hashbrowns and toast and a side of bacon. I got the chicken fried steak (I read that’s it’s a Texas staple) with two eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. We both had coffee. HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS. Came out quick, literally MOUNDS of food, PERFECTLY freaking prepared, quite possibly the best breakfast we’ve ever had (and we’ve had diner food in PA, OH, MI, GA, the Carolinas, VA, etc. Petros (guessed the spelling) took awesome care of us when we checked out. I was thinking about trying a dessert and after his recommendation we decided to take home a baklava and piece of pecan pie that wont survive the night LOL This place is A+, homemade, quality, simple, delicious food served by friendly people who are VERY good at what they do. We're planning to make this our regular weekly breakfast place, 1-hour one-way drive totally worth it!!
Amazing food, served by great people! Must try their waffles, chicken fried steak, tenders, AND French toast. Their hash browns are also made fresh daily in-house, make sure to ask for them crispy!! Will definitely need to come hungry or with stretchy pants because their serving portions are ginormous. You really get the best bang for your buck.
Best homestyle diner in Houston. Hands down. My wife found it on accident and we're so glad she did. I got the Turkey Bacon Club and she got the Chicken Fried Steak. It was all off the charts. But the Coconut Pie put it over the top. It was so good we got one of all of them. We will most definitely be making the drive back from Conroe soon. Outstanding!
This was the 1st time I have ever been to this restaurant for breakfast. Everything at this place was on point. Coffee is a dark roast that is rich in flavor, and the waiters and waitresses are always passing by to refill your cup. Everything was cooked to perfection, including my over easy eggs. Just like I like them. I highly recommend trying this cozy restaurant, which has been there for years.
This place is amazing! The food is delicious, no long wait for the food, the service is so friendly and caring, everything is at a good price, and overall just an excellent atmosphere. They recently started selling Greek desserts which is absolutely delicious and a good touch (get the baklava!!!). If you haven’t been here yet, go asap. I will definitely be coming again. It’s a hidden gem in Houston that deserves all the love. If I can give this place 6 stars, I would. 10/10.
This place is amazing. I would like to say it's a hidden gem, but this place is always packed to the brim!!! It does not matter what time you get here their will be a small wait. Portions are huge and well priced. The service is the BEST!!! Everyone here treats you so well. They make you feel at home and they are extremely helpful with ordering food. My favorites have been the Chicken fried chicken, waffle, and biscuits with sausage and gravy.

Great food, good prices and excellent service. Expect a wait on the weekends because this place is very popular but definitely worth it.

Awesome food for the price, friendly staff. Great ambience. Restrooms are clean, decently spaced parking lot.
Amazing place and food. Service is quick and the ambiance is very country theme. Ms. Olga is my favorite waitress !!!
Can not get over this place. It has been in the neighborhood for years and I'd never stopped by. Waffles were fluffy and chicken was extra crispy. Everything including customer service was 5 star. …
Best breakfast get there early before the long lines form. Love the pancakes! Service was great. I ordered the spinach Swiss omelette and hashbrowns. Make sure you get the homemade biscuits.

Well we went out meet our big brother Mike at Tel-Wink Grill for breakfast because we have not seen him in a very long time. So every one order eggs but that was different two heads family, I had a slightly over easy I had three big pancakes real big pancakes we all had jalapeno sausage one had toast and I had a cup of coffee one we all had water and one had a Dr pepper. Service was good the waiter waitress it kept coming back and making sure that we had everything that we need left a tip and payed the bill and we left. So today was a good day.
This place can get busy during breakfast and lunch hours, their staff are fairly quick and friendly. I would say most of the breakfast items are decent, their white gravy was so so, chicken fried steak was not handmade (probably frozen at some point) Their prices are decent. I’ll probably visit this restaurant in the future if I’m in the area but won’t go out of my way.
A good place for a no frills delicious meal. Service was great. I recommend the waffles.
Fantastic cafe serving huge portions. We should've shared a plate. The pancake was as large as a dinner plate and fluffy/light. The hash browns are legit, crispy and real potatoes. Biscuits were Homemade/huge/ and everything wonderful you know about biscuits. The cafe is a diner feel and usually packed with locals. We arrived at 7:15 and it was still full of patrons. Our waitress Carol walked us through what to get and when I couldn't decide between grits/HB, she said I could have 1/2 and 1/2. Love it!! Do what the locals know and get here for something homemade, home cooked, and reasonably priced.
I had never been to this place and I will tell u the waffle was delicious. I like the fact that is not soggy, instead it has a crunch to it. Must try!!! And it comes with eggs to order & bacon or sausage. Others in our table ordered pancakes & chicken, biscuits and gravy and it was delicious!! We went on a Monday and it was packed so be a little patient.
Big breakfast cool prices will be back ..it's that put you back to sleep food..get there early can accumulate a line by 10 a.m.
Was busy & the team was on top of it. Coffee was always full The sausage in the biscuits n gravy was a uniquely nice touch. 2nd time back here. Still a good spot but, the gravy didn't impress me this time around. I honestly didn't care for it. The hashbrowns were great though. BRING CASH....
Great lil unknown spot for breakfast. This place has been around for years/decades but not that well known. Excellent breakfast and very affordable prices. Portions are huge and great taste. Pancakes and omelets are excellent. Can get pretty busy but it’s a no fuss great place to enjoy a morning meal. Biscuits are huge!!!
The restaurant is the epitome of diner food. Like a Denny's on steroids. I wanted to try everything on the vast menu but landed on the special of the day which was a country fried chicken steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a roll. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and the flavor was there. The green beans were basic- I added salt and pepper. My dad ordered the pork stuffing with corn and fries, which he also enjoyed. Overall the food was homey and flavorful, the staff was were attentive, but the establishment could use some deeper cleaning to get 5 stars.
First time customer honest review: The place is busy we waited outside to be seated wasn't a long wait ..place is clean and well decorated like a 1950s cafe....The food was sooooo good coffee was sooo good bacon amazing and that jalapeno polish sausage omg sooo good.......the grits soooo good... The French toast and Monte Cristo soooo good .......also they have fresh fruit not bruised or in a can soooo good .......food was amazing and fresh...... Only problem the cashier tried to dupe us in front of my face with my 3 kids. The have fresh pastries right there so I'm like give me two of those kubarikia's (idk how it's spelled).like chocolate and white cream it's says it $2.50 on the little card in front of it....and she tried to charge me $4.99 per cake.im glad I was paying attention and caught her .....that's my only problem....she changed it no problem ...I didn't get a receipt either but no biggie Idk who my server was cuz she didn't introduce herself but she was fast and made sure we had everything....before leaving she never came back to check on us and we were in her section but it was very busy so I know how that is used to be a waitress I didn't hold it against her...that's just how u get big tips lol I used to go home with $800 on a Wednesday just saying.....I left her a $20 tip on top of a $45 meal.... we would come again ..... definitely worth the drive.....
Brunch was good. This is one of the best waffles I’ve had and the chicken fried chicken was good too. I also got a regular coffee but they didn’t have French vanilla so that was a bummer. My husband got a bacon cheese burger with fries and it was ok too. Customer service was also good and we were served pretty fast. The prices are a bit high imo, in total my husband and I paid around $46 plus tip just for us two.
It’s a great place for a quick bite. Serving up the food is fast. It is full of patrons and has a tendency to be a little bit loud but still tolerable. The price is also good.

A Houston classic , "greasy spoon". Decent food for a decent price. Been eating there since the very early seventies. Love it for breakfast. Had lunch there today .... good chicken fried chicken !!
Went here for brunch with my partner and definitely had old timer diner feels, which was greats. Service was good and everyone was polite. The food was not the best. My partner enjoyed her food, but the pancakes and biscuits I got were really bad. The pancakes were burned on one side and extremely think with no flavor. The hashbrowns were also very bad and tasted raw and burnt at the same time. I will probably go back to try something else as I want to give it another try, since it does have a nice diner atmosphere.
Came here on a Saturday morning with my family. We spent about $27 on our food (as the check had confirmed). Once we paid and left, we realized we were charged $45.83. Since the cashier was trying to cash out two people at once, she confused our checks and charged us the wrong amount ( I didn't notice til way later). As far as the food goes, it's decent food for the price and portions. I feel the first time we ate here, we had better service and quality food as everything was fresh and tasty. The server this time around was confused and forgetful. Food was not as fresh or well put together. But still had good flavor. *Attached photo was from first visit*
When I walked in, I had no clue where to go. There was no signage to let me know that I was supposed to seat myself and the only nearby worker I saw was the cashier who was ringing up someone. Once I figured out that I'm supposed to seat myself, the waitress handed me a menu and asked me what I wanted to drink. I don't even know my options at this point so I tell her a eed a minute. She comes back shortly after, I tell her I want a chocolate milk and that I'm still deciding on food. She stands there, writes down the chocolate milk, and waits. Once she sees that I'm still deciding, she goes to grab the chocolate milk, comes back pen in hand, and just waits for me to decide what I want to eat. I felt VERY rushed and they weren't even busy. I order my food and it comes out fairly quickly. The waffle was delicious!!! The omelette tasted something like something an average person would make at home. Also, I'm like 97% sure they used sliced cheese on the omelette which I was not a fan of. The grits were a great texture, but very bland even after butter, salt, and pepper were mixed in.
I came in last week. Heavier server with pink shirt kind of had an attitude while asking me if I planned to dine in. Very off-putting. Thankfully another waitress took my order. The other waitress was great and I enjoyed my food.
The food was mid. Your best bet is City Cafe if you want that diner experience that actually serves food you can finish. Hard pass.
I'd first learned about this place a long time ago and have always wanted to try it. Unfortunately I was not impressed by my visit. They have standard breakfast and diner fare. The service however was absolutely unacceptable. Our waitress actively ignored us and got our order wrong. Though the place was busy there is no reason our waitress should have ignored us, even when we politely tried to get her attention. I may come again, but I am tentative after such awful service.
Mediocre, 1st time going, wasn't that clean. Had a classic hamburger, average. Dessert menu looked impressive; however 40% of the items listed wasn't available. The service wasn't that well either. I'm use to dealing with crowded restaurants, and this wasn't a peek time; but my waitress was constantly conversating at other tables casually and I had to flag her for assistance.
If I could give them zero stars, I would. My server Dourney was very rude and did not get my order right twice and did not apologize but made it seem as if the error was my fault. I'd rather go to …

Straight up Bad service, I have given this spot a couple chances, as we are all human and can have a bad day. Last couple times I went there the server got my order wrong, then tell me I didnt ask for what I asked for . My wife and I order strips with chicken gravy n fries. She gets a pan cake I get a waffle. That simple, how you mixed that up with no fries, and chicken fried chicken breast instead IDk.. But whatever, then when i address it server tells me I ordered wrong.. Nope I ordered right, you wrote it down wrong… Then after correcting her on my order she brings me strips with no fries, and I asked where are my fries, she tells me I didnt order fries, I say to her I asked twice already and beside the plate comes with fries..! At check out I asked to confirm my order and that was a whole problem as well… Well excuse me but you just charging me without details on my reciept and I want to ensure I am not being over charged or charged for the wrong items that I did not order. Also had to get up and go get our own syrup and togo box as server never brought syrup for our plates. Then we waited for a long period never was brought the check and had to grab our togo boxes ourselves, finally we got up and just went to cashier to pay n let cashier know check was never brought to us. Yea miss me with all that… Last time I go there, I know it won’t shut the doors down but I refuse to spend my money at places with bad service.
