A great little diner, ideal for takeout, with limited outdoor seating and parking. The food is great and one can understand why it has been here, across from the University of Houston, and a few blocks from TSU, since 1961. The bus and metro rail make it accessible to all.

Very delicious. I got a double chili cheeseburger and fries. The fries tasted like an actual fried potato, and were salty, hot and fresh.

Y'ALL!!! The lady who took my order was patient w me, as it was my first time. I ordered the large cheeseburger w bacon, and fries. Only $7.90!!! For homemade I'll pay & that is what this was!! This place is absolutely phenomenal! My mother had been going to this place since she was a kid and was sure to share the experience with her daughter and grandson. They have the best homemade food and cold drinks! If you’re ever in 3rd ward be sure to stop here first!!

I took cash because they don't accept anything else. I ordered a burger (everything on it), fries, and a root beer float. But I did not feed the panhandlers, as the signage demands. I sat at the concrete picnic tables and looked at the corner store across the street, two men loitering on the side, occasional kids driving by on bicycles. I saw women in scrubs and men in casual wear smoking Swishers as they waited their turn to order and get their number. Among the train horns, rattle of car speakers in traffic, and din of the kitchen, my number was called. I devoured my food, whispering prayers of gratitude for that place and that moment. I threw away the only thing left of my food, the paper wrappers. I talked with Ms. Greenwood about how the Third Ward is changing. New train, new walls, new apartments. But I also appreciated how much stayed the same: black-owned businesses serving the community, and real people eating real food to get rest from their real lives. The food is great, but the experience is profound. This is Houston.

Been going here for a long time. Best burgers in town in my opinion. I'd give them TEN stars instead of 5. Best shakes as well. Shake cups aren't large enough so I'd buy two. That's how good they are LOL! As for fries, it's time to do something different. Simply too greasy and not crispy enough. Got to cook them differently, use different grease or get a different batch of fries. Overall, burgers and shakes are a TEN!

This place is really awesome. Super quick, very good service, and reasonably priced for damn good burgers and frito pie. You’d think a simple cheeseburger with the regular toppings would be pretty basic but somehow this burger just tastes….I guess like the perfect burger. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Especially for the price, it might be the best burger in town and that’s a serious claim. H town has lots of great burgers but the atmosphere of this roadside shack really takes you back in time (as do the prices). The woman who runs the joint is so sweet. My daughter found this place and goes pretty often and tells me I gotta give it a try. Today I was in the area and stopped in. I was greeted with a sweet lady she took my order and about 10min later the food was ready. We ordered cheeseburgers and chili cheese fries. They were both exceptional. Cream Burger is a great spot to grab a bite. The menu is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Overall everything has a classic burger joint feel to it. The fries are really hearty with a rich potato flavor and the hamburgers are tasty yet straightforward. However, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, there is also a chili cheese burger and ice cream options. The ice cream has a bit of a grainy texture, but I found it oddly satisfying.

This is one of the Bucket Lists best burger place and let me tell you this double meat chili cheeseburger was so delicious and the fries were amazing. Because of the pandemic there's no sitting allowed on the only 2 tables they have out front. They do have markings for standing while ordering to go so social distancing and wearing mask is required. And you don't wait long for your orders. The lady taking our order was very nice & friendly. Definitely will return and do recommend this place to everyone. Need to try it at least once. Cheap burgers with a classic, vintage feel. I enjoyed my small cheeseburger and ice cream. This place is cash only, so I had to go across the street to pull money from an ATM. Strange that a restaurant does not accept cards nowadays, but it fits with the old timey feel.

The food is so good. I had a mouthwatering vanilla shake that had the best consistency and sweet vanilla flavor. Their burgers are homestyle, you can taste the salt and pepper, paired with mustard onions and pickles with shredded lettuce, it is absolutely amazing. Now the fries… the fries almost made me drive through the median and double back because we ordered a small to share, BIG MISTAKE, get the biggest fry you can. I cant wait to visit again, it was definitely a treat ☺️.

I stopped by Cream Burger in Third Ward after a sports event, and wow—what a find! The little shack already gave me the feeling that I was in for something good (because let’s be honest, shacks usually mean the best burgers). But I was sweetly surprised at just how good this was—hands down one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, and easily in my top five in all of Houston. The burger was simple but perfectly done, the milkshake was delicious, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. It’s rare to find a place that nails all three, but Cream Burger does it effortlessly. If you’re craving a no-frills, mouthwatering burger with great service, this is the spot. Highly recommended!

Okay, so it's been more than a year since I've had Cream Burgers. The first time I went the burger was pretty good but the service was not so good. But I was in the neighborhood with some cash on me as this place only accepts cash payments. So I decided to give this place another try because I remembered that the burger was pretty good However, I contemplated whether or not I wanted to deal with her bad attitude. So I did go to place an order and I'm glad I did because her attitude was totally opposite of what it was the first time I was there. She was so super friendly and warm this time around and the burger was still as good as it was the first time I had one. Though, the fries could use some salt on them but other than that it's worth it because the burgers are good and the prices are reasonable. I actually left there with a smile this time because of the warm customer service I received❣❣ Thank you and I hope your customer service stays as warm and good as your burgers👍🏽🙌🏾🙏🏽❣

While this place may not look like much, it is one of the best burgers I have had. It's very home style, good food like your grandma is cooking. The staff is very sweet and happy to customize your order. They are a CASH ONLY establishment, so be sure to bring cash, but they are very affordable. Burgers, hotdogs, and fries are good. Forgot to tell them no mustard. I don't eat mustard. But even like that, I ate the hotdogs with chili and cheese like that. They were good.

Flavorful burgers that are juicy and decked out with fresh veggies. From the pics I thought the single would be too small so ordered the double. I was wrong the double was huge! The fries are delicious! I would return for the chili cheese version and a single patty burger. The cake was moist but not my taste for chocolate cake the icing was delicious and made up for the cake part.

I saw this on some Texas bucket list thing and I don't get the hype. Don't get me wrong. it's good but I don't think it's a must visit spot the burger was fine. it definitely tasted like a frozen Sysco Patty and not one of their particularly upmarket ones. it was a little dry and a little overdone. I got a bacon double cheeseburger all the way with mayonnaise and mustard and it tasted a lot like Whataburger though it was a maybe a little bit cheaper I also got the chili cheese fries. the chili tastes exactly like you think it would. the fries were a little floppy but well seasoned nicely salty pretty good. it's cool this place has been there for 60 years and the woman running it was a total sweetheart. very nice lady the wait was maybe a little longer than you are expecting, but they're cooking everything hot and fresh for you perfectly good spot to grab lunch. but nothing revolutionary

Finally made it and I was not disappointed. This is a great burger hands down. I love how they put the toppings in between the meat on the double. I order double cheese all the way and added bacon and a large fry. I swear these french fries did not come from a bag they were great. All and all I would recommend. If you are in the area or you just want to make the trip you won’t regret grabbing a burger!!

It’s a great late night place to grab a straightforward, classic American burger and more. It’s a small menu with classic options, and some good drink options too. I went with a standard large burger, some fries, and a sweet tea. Quality wise, it’s nothing overly special, but it’s pretty cheap and satisfying, if you’re craving it. I wouldn’t recommend the hotdog, and they use a lot of mustard for all their food. Not a lot of seating - a few tables, but it’s definitely a grab and go place. Overall, a good place to get some staple food.

I had the chilli cheese fries.... sadly I wasn't impressed. It's was $5 for a large order which was not large enough to share. It was bland and maybe had a tablespoon of chilli smeared on the fries..I guess cheese is expensive too as I didn't taste much of it either. All I tasted was soggy fries. A 3rd Ward institution since 1961. A friend said they discovered it on YouTube. There were 3 menus, low prices and a constant flow of customers. Interesting eating in places older than your grandmother, but it did bring back childhood memories w the simple taste and flavors. Apparently, the chili cheese dogs are the must have menu item.

The sweet tea was good.. my double cheese burger had more mustard than cheese on it. I honestly could barely enjoy it. So kinda disappointed by that. So I would say if you go here, it would be wise to tell them no mustard at all or easy mustard. However I love the prices. My husband enjoyed his burgers as well. He definitely said they needs to add more cheese. I can tell in some areas when the hamburger meat was a little dry. Other than that the service was good.

I never thought I would be saying this because this place is one that I had been going to sense a kid. When I ask the family what did they want to have for dinner, and I named out a couple of places, they immediately said cream burger. So I made the stop. I quickly know this that on the way home, the food didn't overwhelm the car like it normally would but that was a good thing because it would have made me start dipping into those extra fries that I ordered for such an occasion. But when I got home and we started eating, the first thing I noticed was that the bag didn't have that extra grease in it like it used to. Again I didn't think much of it until I bit into the burger and realized that not only was the meat dinner but it was dryer than it used to be. I know this the comments and videos I've seen of this place weren't all that great but I ignored them because I wanted to know for myself. Again, this was a childhood burger joint that I've always loved. I'm not sure why these switched ingredients but I hope this is just temporary.

I hate to say it because I had high hopes for them since they been around so long. I got the small cheeseburger and the patty was super super thin. I only tasted onion and cheese. The pineapple shake was ok but not much of pineapple flavor. Its good if you want a cheap burger.

We went to this place on Saturday, I got a double meat with bacon, bacon was 1.50, you would think you would get two slices I barely tasted the bacon, but the burger was good, the fries was barely warm they was home made. But the attitude of the lady that waited on us was STANK, when our order was ready I ask her did she put extra onions because I asked for them when I ordered but she didn't say ok are anything, so I thought I would ask she said yes and I said ok thanks, have a good day and she slams the little screen window in my face saying nothing.

The burger was made fresh but not well seasoned. Fries tasted like the freezer. Customer service was not the best. I have been wanting to try this place since moving to Houston and unfortunately this will be my first and last time at this establishment.

1st time here. I was super disappointed. The burger meat tasted kind of old & it lacked seasoning but the veges were fresh. I also ordered cheese fries. Looked like they put a slice of American cheese on top of 10 fries. The strawberry shake was the only good thing. I should've gone to burger park but I really wanted to try this place.

Yes I tried it and although it wasn't expensive but it was by far the worst dish I've had from any place by far. Very flavorlessI will not return.

The older black lady at the window was rude, uncooperative and argumentative. There aren’t many black owned businesses left in the community due to gentrification, so I suggest you treat your customers with respect before they stop patronizing your business.

So today was my first time visiting. I wanted to order 3 large burgers. it was an older lady with glasses at the window. When I walked up she continued to draw lines on her paper as I'm standing there waiting to order. She then put the paper down and ask what I wanted to order I told her I wanted to order three large burgers. I asked what all came on the burger she slammed up the the screen on the window and point it to the menu on the counter. mind you the menu on the counter and the menu on the wall do not have the condiments that come on the burger listed only the counter menu you has what comes on the burger. I told her I didn't want any mustard on one of the burgers no onions and no tomatoes she then stated that I would have to tell her that I didn't want Mayo either because they will still put mayo on the burger. I was like okay but that Not listed on the list. I just decided to leave because she was very rude and very impatient as if she had so much to do and I was just bothering her and wasting her time this was my first/last time at this establishment and you won't have to worry about me coming back.

Old lady literally called me stupid for sliding my 100 dollar bill under the front screen where she takes orders at. Didn’t think it was that serious just don’t really feel comfortable brandishing cash especially when I need to break at bill.Was going to be my first time trying the food there but customer service is at a record low

I was super disappointed in the service my boyfriend and I received. I contemplated not making a review and just never coming back, but couldn’t shake the way I was made to feel like I was bothering them by trying to support a black, family owned business. If the lady at the front wasn’t warm, I could understand that.We all have a bad day, but I mean absolutely, unmistakably rude. And we waited in our car for our food, a guy from the kitchen comes out and throws his hands up annoyed as if we were taking too long to come check for it. I felt like they didn’t want us there, and the mission was accomplished because I’ll never be back. Also, food was mid. Again, not terrible. But, bad service AND mid food? I don’t get how it’s a “Houston staple” we ended up at Whataburger.

The black lady at the window is rude. Do not go here.. the fries suck. No salt no season on the fries. Got the food faster than what she told me so hopefully don't know how it taste yet. Had to make it back home to my side of town so we'll see how the food taste But don't go here the food and service is low quality They say you come to the hood to find good food but the service sucks and not at this place I guess the food ain't good.
