Our new favorite Chinese restaurant! Cheap eats, tasty food, fast service. We each ordered wonton noodle soup with dumplings and added Peking duck, ginger chicken, BBQ pork on the side. Noodle soup was flavorful with or without the side meat dish. One thing I would change next time for the noodle dish is not request the dumplings as the 3 wontons were hearty enough without the extra dumplings. The fried salt and pepper squid dish was well seasoned and not rubbery. Snow pea leaves was refreshing and broke up the monotony. Will return next time for bao & Peking duck plus some of the recommended dishes (shrimp fried rice, shrimp stuffed stuffed eggplant).
This place is amazing. It’s run by a small family and the place may look a lil run down but the food is the best. Honestly no place can top the Cantonese Cuisine here. I go there every time I’m in town at least once. I highly recommend the crispy fish and the honey walnut shrimp!
Yuan ten is amazing! It’s been here for years, has always had some of the best Chinese barbecue and Cantonese food in the city.
I have been coming here since I was born. This place never fails. Almost everyone I bring here local or international always come back and cannot get enough of it. My grandma found this place and I was basically raised here 😁 GO-TO famous plates listed below: The chicken with Black Mushroom Fried fish with salt and pepper Spareribs Pepper beef Chinese broccoli Chicken with onion and ginger Peking Duck Bbq Pork Special chow mein (all of them are good) Special Tofu
Great food and authentic. Will definitely comeback soon.
A very affordable Chinese restaurant. Must try!! My bf loves this restaurant soooo much. Highly recommended. But, the customer service sucks. The lady is mad usually.
Good Chinese food at very reasonable price for both dinner and lunch.
I’ve always loved this place! Traditional Chinese soul food.

This restaurant is really good. If it comes to attitude, this will be 2 stars, but I don’t come to restaurant and judge attitude. As long as my food come out right and quick service, it’s okay for me. You know it’s a good restaurant when an asian boomer is the server, really mean demeanor, and you’re scared to ask her even a fork. Lol i am literally scared of her, but she brings out everything fast. I will comeback lol
Good Chinese food at very reasonable price for both dinner and lunch.
I recently visited a charming little Chinese spot, and it was a delightful experience! The staff was incredibly attentive, making us feel right at home. I ordered the black mushroom chicken, and it was absolutely banging—packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The cozy atmosphere paired with great service made it a memorable meal. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food in a small setting, this place is a must-try!
Haven’t visited in over a decade since I no longer live in the SW Houston area but it was a last minute invite by my uncle that I did not want to let down - the trip was worth it. The food and service was just as good as I remember and the prices remain fair & reasonable considering so many others have gone up the past three years. The dishes we ordered were made with the same care and love as I remember and I don’t really know why some critics say the same thing but give this family owned business as hard time over their “ambiance” since to me, it’s been this way for as long as I remember and to me, the only thing that matters is the cleanliness and the quality of the food and service, and Yuan Ten checks all the important boxes. So if you want okay food at inflated prices but a “photo or post quality” atmosphere, go somewhere else. But….if good quality made food that reflects a mastery of traditional Chinese cuisine with friendly service and fair prices, then come visit Yuan Ten….you’ll be glad you did.
Stopped here for lunch while passing by Houston. This place is very reasonably priced and the waitress was very helpful. There was a language barrier but we managed to make it work. At first we thought she was being rude however she was actually very friendly. She even saved us some money! We ordered from the regular menu and there was a similar plate on the lunch menu. She was kind enough to ask us multiple times until we understood the message. The food was amazing and the portions were very generous considering it was a lunch menu. We will definitely be stopping by again when we pass through. Generally I don’t go for tofu but if you feel adventurous the fried tofu won’t disappoint.
Love the food in this place, have been going for years.
I've been eating at this restaurant for so many years since the day it was open the owner of the restaurant is so extremely kind if you become a regular customer sometimes she would give you some free dessert the price is great not too expensive but I do know is one thing especially as a lady she does have two face she will be super friendly to you if you give her a lot of tips but if you give her a little bit or minimum wage she will not wait on you and give you a bad attitude I'm talking about meanness I seen the whole different side of her several times and I don't like to be waited like that we give them a lot of business since the day they been no answer but this one particular waitress is not too nice and rude :-(! But the owner is such a sweetheart she deserve all the business she can have she has a very very kind-hearted person very friendly to and she also work extremely hard where she shouldn't be it should be the waitresses because she pays them but she want to make sure the customers of extremely well taken care of:-)! But the Chinese food is very authentic and great price it's worth every penny of it :-)! I went there on Saturday before Mother's Day Full House there was not but one table left for us to sit I just know these two waitresses and one waiter was ignoring us constantly it took 45 minutes until the server take our orders it was very unnecessary to take that long one young lady was so angry and angry at the waiter I just know if the owner is not there they would take advantage of the whole situation not giving great service :-(! I am waiting for the moment to tell the owner about the situation when I get there in person I want to do it that day but the waitresses in waiter trying to block me from talking to her :-(! Even my parents love this place especially my mother :-)!
I don’t really do reviews, but I am always one to critique places I’ve been to to my friends. For the past year, I’ve done more exploring across Houston for food, and I’ve spent my entire life in Bellaire eating. Honestly, food is a big part of my life, and this restaurant is at the heart of it all. For over 2 decades, my family had went to Yuan Ten and made memories with each generation from young to old. For me, I’ve seen this restaurant flourish for about 20 years of its nearly 40 years. In spite of some of the best food I’ve had in Houston with other restaurants that are definitely nicer on the interior or nicer in food quality, Yuan Ten still remains my favorite. It can be called nostalgia, it can be called bias, but, to me, it is the best restaurant I’ve ever been in. I’ve known the waiting staff since I was a child; I’ve known the kitchen staff since I was a child; and I’ve known the owners since I was a child, and every day they would give their best to make sure everyone is comfortable, fed, and happy in their restaurant. It’s family friendly, affordable, and homely when you come in. At the beginning, I said I don’t really do reviews. However, seeing this restaurant appearing to be in decline in recent years and in popularity, I want to try to rekindle that interest here. I really want to help put this back onto most people’s radars and inspire others to help kindle their own Yuan Ten’s. Small, family owned restaurants you could call a home for your stomachs and inspire a sense of family and community. My family loves this place. I love this place. And I hope you love this place as well.
This is one of the oldest and most authentic Cantonese restaurants in Austin. They don’t have an Instagram or branding or anything like that but their food is outstanding and one of the last bastions of old Houston Chinatown cuisine. Recommend the crispy beef chow mein and salt and pepper squid.

There's nothing to complain about the food here. The price is exceptionally good, especially they have lunch special throughout the whole week. We ordered a 3 people combination. BBQ combination, Special tofu, vegetable, and a steam fish. The fish is really fresh, their Chinese BBQ is pretty good compare to others. The tofu is also tasty. The vegetable dish is just simply stir-fried therefore didn't take a picture. With tax and tips it's just $50. However, I would order from their lunch special menu next time. Their lunch menu is $7.5 per dish I could of order 7 dishes for about the same price. Probably the lack of hands in this restaurant waitress seems to be less patient, and their cups and plates don't look so clean. Environment and atmosphere is definitely not the reason why you are here so no comments. Definitely will come back in the future for their food.
Met a friend here as it’s one of her favorite restaurants. Walnut shrimp was light and crispy on the outside, firm on the inside- not mushy like some places. Peking duck skin was light and crispy. Ordered the sautéed eggplants, got the fried eggplants. Waitress though very friendly refused to swap out for sautéed eggplants. We took it togo and as leftovers in the air fryer, turned out to be an appreciated dish. We will be coming back for all three dishes!

My recent dining experience at Yuan Ten Cantonese Cuisine left me with mixed feelings. While the food was undeniably tasty and the service was satisfactory, the ambience of the restaurant left something to be desired. Let's start with the positives—the food. Yuan Ten certainly knows how to deliver when it comes to flavor. The Cantonese dishes we ordered were delicious, and the flavors were authentic and well-balanced. Unfortunately, where Yuan Ten fell short was the ambience and cleanliness. The overall appearance of the restaurant felt a bit unkempt, and some areas looked notably dirty. The fish tank, which could have been a nice touch, was disappointingly filthy, detracting from the dining experience. Improving the cleanliness and maintaining a more welcoming atmosphere would significantly enhance the overall appeal of the restaurant. Additionally, one aspect that further impacted our dining experience at Yuan Ten was the practice of cutting vegetables on the table next to us using regular scissors. While I understand the need for efficiency, this method of food preparation felt unprofessional and unhygienic. The sight and sound of vegetables being chopped on a neighboring table disrupted the ambiance and left us questioning the restaurant's attention to hygiene and customer comfort. Addressing this practice would be another improvement that could positively influence the overall dining experience at Yuan Ten.

Very rude staff. It’s plenty of restaurants in Chinatown, I’ll not going back to suffer the bad attitude waitress.
I have never given a such bad review on any restaurant except this one. I am seriously warning you never buy a rostered duck from this restaurant. They have been cheating customers for years. I bought a half of rostered duck yesterday and asked the chef do not chop the duck to small pieces instead of only one cut with two big pieces. I have noticed that they always steal some slices meat when they cut the duck. So I thought that it would be impossible for them to teal meat if I ask them to cut the duck into two big pieces. It’s so sad they stole again. I found out the chef chopped a half meat of leg. It’s so sad how such a dishonest business can still survive. Therefore I would really suggest anyone do not go and support this restaurant. I will never go and buy anything from them.
