I don't favor Mexican food but I had a fantastic time at this restaurant. We sat outdoor and felt like we were on vacation in La Paz in Mexico. The nice ocean breeze, the decorations, the other guests, the laughters and the EXCELLENT service made us feel very happy. I said thank you to my date 6 times for choosing this place. The food is overly delicious but the prices are affordable. You can also drink a margarita with your food while dreaming away with the music and being blown away with the ocean air and beautiful decorations. If you take someone special here, that someone special will never forget the happy experience you give him/ her. This is a perfect gift of Good memory.
We really enjoyed our dinner, had the crispy carnitas and chili Colorado and they were very tasty and the portion sizes were just right. Atmosphere was good and the staff were friendly. I would recommend a visit to them.
Came here Saturday night just prior to them closing so it wasn't crowded at all, We sat in the indoor courtyard area with the fireplace and it was a nice atmosphere to relax and enjoy dinner in. Our server was very kind and accommodating, He recommended plates for each of us and we were all satisfied with what we received. I ordered the chicken fajitas as the server recommended and they were really great. The plate came with rice and beans, Along with guacamole and pico- It tasted great and was really enjoyable. My sister ordered the lemon cilantro chicken and said that was good, And my mom got a chicken salad in a basket shell and said that was good too. We'd absolutely go back for another dinner, More than likely later at that same time to avoid the crowd. If you haven't checked this place out, I think it would be worth you trying it out.
The BEST family owned Mexican restaurant. Food, service, atmosphere 11/10. Their tortilla soup is the best I’ve ever had…you can feel the love in all of their food, healing food! 🫶❤️ La Capilla treats you like family, thank you!❤️
We came here for my husband's birthday. The food, the atmosphere, the servers and the service was so awesome. We will.be coming here more often. If you come to Huntington Beach and you want food Mexican food...you better not miss this gem! The also have a nice outdoor patio and separate bar. Thank you for your hospitality!
LaCapilla Mexican has been a local favorite for decades and still a senior favorite. I decided to come back because I wanted a quite sit-down with a full entree plate, basket of chips and salsa, and not served on paper plates or styrofoam. LaCapilla did not disappoint. I had Carnitas Enchiladas and love when beans and rice fill the plate. I hate when some restaurants put beans and rice in little bowls on the plate. With my beer(not pictured) very satisfied. Clean surroundings and comfortable booths.
Great place for dinner & drinks. The place wasn't busy so that's a plus for us. Big bar seating area with booths and TVs-another plus. We we're attended to quickly by or waitress Rosa. She came by frequently to make sure we were good but gave us time to enjoy our drink & look at the menu. Once we ordered the food came quickly. Rosa was super friendly & sociable. Thank you Rosa for making our time there so enjoyable! See you again soon!
The food, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere is all 5 stars. I can always tell when a restaurant uses canned beans vrs when its cooked from scratch and everything about this place is 💯% authentic. Had so much food we got to take some home for dinner. So you're basically getting two meals for one good price. Will definitely be coming back and bringing some friends with me as well.
Pretty good food. I had a burrito with red sauce. Big margaritas
Good spot for Mexican food. Service is great and food comes out quickly. Good place for kids. Prices are good. It was my first time here and I'd come back.
Good Mexican food, not amazing, but gets the job done. The salsa has a decent spice level but the enchilada sauce could have had more flavor. The building is huge and there was no wait when we went. The vibes were solid and the margaritas were tasty. Overall good experience.
Large restaurant with good food. We tried this with friends last night and everyone had a good meal (except the tortilla soup). I had the combo plate of single chicken taco with rice and beans. Great rice and beans and taco was cruncy and full of toppings. Also pictured is chicken chimichanga. Not totally what we expected but still good. Though this would be much less like a burrito and be smaller and deep fried. Came qith sour cream and guac. Guacamole was excellent. I would order the guac for the chips next time. Chips and salsa foe the table is always nice. But the salsa was pretty spicy for me. Large place made hanging out with our group of 9 easy. Servers were great. Attentive and remeberes things well. Kinda pricy but not outrageous. Everything is pricey these days. I would recommend it.
1st time. The food was tasty. Ordered the fajitas combo with steak, chicken, and shrimp. It was all tossed together. Arrived sizzling and smokey as it should be but was surprised to see it all tossed together. Immediately, all I saw was the shrimp, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. After digging around, we found the meat in small pieces. I get it, food costs are up but that was aaaaalot of onions. Blood Orange margaritas were so good and strong, tortillas soup was a cup, and it was good. Salad was super fresh and crisp. By the taste and consistency of the flan, I would say it's not made in-house, not sure. Beans and rice are good! Guacamole tastes of cumin, lots of it. Chips and salsa were also very good and fresh. Overall, it was a good tasting meal for our 1st time. We enjoyed it, and got full of onions...lol jk 😜
The food was mediocre. The beef was tough. The basket of chips was the smallest of any restaurant I've been to. When told the beef was tough the waiter just shrugged. The restaurant was very loud. There are much better Mexican food restaurants in the area.
Update: We've been back to this restaurant a few times with extended family and a couple of times following that occasion. Ever since the owner is no longer working shifts to fill in the labor shortage, the service has drastically changed. So have the prices. Let's put it this way-- after a few visits, $23 for two shrimp tacos is absurd... especially since it's basically cabbage and shrimp in a tortilla. I understand inflation, of course, but in this case, why gouge when we're all feeling it? Competitors in the area do not come close to these price points for basically the same things. Anyway combine the outrageous prices with less than acceptable service on three consecutive occasions, I'll go somewhere else. Lost a few stars 🌟 Sorry guys. ---------- Original review: Large property that captures the flavor of Mexico-- and delivers it. The food was great (all sodium restrictions aside because, well, it's Mexican food) Excellent and diverse menu choices. You can tell a great Mexican restaurant often from their salsa... excellent to the point of blowing my diet with the warm chips. (Oh the salt but it goes with the territory) Great seafood entrees. I ordered the shrimp with a light sauce that included mushrooms and olives, which added an interesting twist to the usual. It was perfect except well, too much salt. My son had a two combo plate of a shredded beef taco and chili relleno... good Lord. Looked and smelled delicious and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Triple bypass on a plate. I don't do dairy or meat other than fish so I lived vicariously through that plate of what would be bad news for me if I indulged. Both entrées were delicious. I did indulge in their jalapeño skinny margarita. Fresh lime, but too sweet (no salt of course) My son enjoyed that gorgeous fat slice if cheesecake. Few negatives but I felt sad to discover our server was actually one of the owners of the restaurant who needed to fill in thanks to labor shortages. He was kind, attentive and the food turnaround was very fast. Support your locals and go here rather than some chain. This is good Mexican food, hospitality and an experience that will certainly bring me back.
Inside the restaurant it felt humid 💧 The vibe was weird. The restaurant seemed really big but they only use a small part of it. The food, to be honest, is not for me 🌮 It lacks good flavor and there was a fly 🪰 buzzing around our food the entire time. #localgoogleguide #googleguide #lacapillamexicanfood #lacapillahuntingtonbeach #lacapilla #womenwhoguide #mexicanfood #mexicanfoodatthebeach #letsguide #huntingtonbeachlocalguides
Should have known when there was only 2 other customers at lunch time. The food was awful and our waiter was not around. Never came back to the table to check on things. Also forgot our drinks.
Not impressed at all. Ordered enchiladas Suizas. The tortillas were crunchy and dry. There was no sauce. I asked for double beans instead of rice and corn. They gave me double rice instead and it was mushy and tasted like salty chicken bouillon.
This is not authentic Mexican food. The food had no flavor. The camarones a la diabla tasted like the canned chipotle-tomato sauce and was bland. The mole poblano is not even close to authentic mole. The mole tastes like the mole that comes in a glass container at your local store. We ordered guacamole, which tasted bland and was served with sour cream. If you know about authentic Mexican food, this is not the place for you. You will be disappointed.
Our family has been going to La Capilla in HB for over 15 years, and we always enjoyed our experience there. My mom and I went there late this afternoon and what a HUGE disappointment! The food was HORRIBLE! Even the guacamole was terrible. It tasted like the frozen guacamole you buy from a store with a few tomatoes and onions thrown in. The beef and pork were dry and tasteless, and the beans (which used to be my favorite) had a weird, artificial flavor. Besides the horrible food, it cost $87.00 (before tip) for two dinners and two margaritas. Oh, the margaritas tasted like sweet and sour with water. We will be finding another favorite Mexican restaurant. So disappointed! Our meals were a taco and chili relleno with beans and rice and the rancheros taquitos with beans and rice, one side taco and 2 regular margaritas. That comes to over $40 per person! Seriously??? Seems like so many places now are cutting back on quality while still increasing prices.
