Opinions de Aroma Thai Restaurant Imperial Beach
Good and very considerate of the American pallet, in sensitivity to spicy. If you like spicy all for hot! (More of a Southern Thailand flavor) The Satay Chicken was fabulous. Curry was very good and Pad Thai was okay. I'm used to more bean sprouts and more salt/sweet flavor. Service was excellent. Environment was clean and well done.
I will happily sing the praises for this restaurant when it comes to the outrageously delicious food and the value it offers. Tonight we treated ourselves to the pot stickers and chicken wings to start, which were sublime. Flavor for the pot stickers: Win! Crunch for the wings: Win! We followed this up with Pumpkin Curry, Ginger Entree with Chicken, and Panang Duck. I have been here before and fell in love with their Mango Curry...but that was some time ago and I owe them another "5 Star". While I reluctantly criticize service (as a recovered customer service professional) I would not come here expecting good service. Expect fantastic food. Do come here...and bring your patience.
A friend brought me here for lunch. They eat here all the time. I'd go back next time I'm in the area. I had the Combination fried rice and my friend had Drunken noodels. Both tasted great and the Thai iced tea was really good as well.
Seriously so delicious, we went with some mildly picky kids, and got a good variety of food. My kids loved the yellow curry. The pad Thai was amazing. We brought home leftovers and had more the next day, still great!
I order grub hub from here constantly. Warning food Always takes 5 minutes longer than the estimated time. Food has consistently gotten better and better, but I probably wouldn't have gone here if it was not walking distance. I have gone to this place for years and wow they have changed a lot of their items on the menu and gotten better and better. I now love this place.
This is my go-to Thai place and my ALL time favorite Thai food too. The service is always great and the food is AMAZING. All plates I have tasted have been delicious! My usual is Yellow Curry with Mock Chicken at a 2/10 in spiciness. People should know that a 3/10 is already VERY spicy and that at any Thai place. So if you're giving them 1 star cause YOU ordered 5/10 and it was "too spocy" thats your own fault.
I came here for a family lunch on Mother's Day and the food was delicious and served quickly. The portions are a pretty large and served family-style for everyone to try the different dishes. They also prepare your order as spicy as you want, which was a major win for my spicy loving father and my pepper averse girlfriend. I tried the pumpkin curry, green curry, and whatever curry is served with the salmon dish were all excellent (can you tell I like curry?). At the end of the meal, the server surprised my mother with a rose. So thoughtful! The restaurant is within walking distance to the Imperial Beach Pier for a nice stroll after a lovely meal.
Aroma Thai was open on a Monday when other IB restaurants were closed. I was surprised how excellent my food was as I usually go elsewhere. I had a seafood curry with brown rice (appreciated, extra cost) and a Thai iced coffee. My companion had a wrap. Very comfortable sitting in a booth. Felt safe. Attentive service.
Always friendly, clean, and delicious! There is good parking, clean counters, clean kitchen to order many delicious menu items. During COVID, take out only! Still delicious! One block from the ocean in Imperial Beach, this place is across the street from a public beach park with benches and tables to take the food, munch, beach watch and enjoy! I love this place and always drive to order this food! Thank you!
Every time I've been here it's always been excellent service with top notch Thai food. Every dish I've had, which is pretty close to everything on the menu, has been outstanding quality and taste. All of the employees that I've been fortunate enough to meet have been great people too. This is a place that I plan on coming back to for years and years.
I haven't been here in 4 years nor did I eat inside when I was there. I got takeout back in 2020 and to this day, I still regularly think about the catfish stir fry I had. I'm pretty sure it was a daily special, and I think it was catfish pad see ew, but it was so phenomenal I have genuinely been thinking about it on the regular for 4 years. I have chased that high with other catfish dishes and not one came close. Amazing food. Highly, highly recommend.
This place is amazing! I cannot express enough how good the food is. My ONLY critique is that it was a little dark in their for my liking, but this is arbitrary. The service was friendly. The food was definitely the star of the show, as it should be. We'd definitely come here again the next time we're in town. The price point is very fair. We spent about $20-$30 per person, but that included drinks, appetizers with an S, soups also with an S and our main courses. Can't say enough good things.
Excellent noodle dishes. Fresh, delicious tasting food directly from the kitchen hot grill or wok. The spring rolls were excellent. The service was fast and the restaurant is clean and comfortable.
This is the 2nd time eating here. I'm from Arizona. This is my favorite place for Thai food. You can have the heat between 0 and 10. I like it at an 8. It's a good solid heat without taking from the flavor. This time we ordered a sampler. Highly recommend. The spring rolls and crab angels are delightful. I didn't try the shrimp but heard it was good. We spent $50 before tip for 2 plates, a sampler and 2 drinks. I'll be back next time I'm in town. Thank you for the meal.
Absolutely delicious! 😍 I ordered the red curry lunch special, and it was bursting with flavor, packed with a variety of fresh vegetables. 🥦🥕🌶️ It came with a tofu soup that had a beautifully flavored broth—so comforting! 🍜 The wonton and spring roll were freshly made and absolutely tasty. 🥟✨ The Thai tea was delicious, though I felt the portion was a bit small for $5. 🧋 The white rice was just okay—I’d love to see a better recipe for it. 🍚 The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, and was nicely decorated. 🏡🎨 Plus, it’s in a great location, and I really enjoyed the music. 🎶 The service was fantastic—friendly and attentive! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ll definitely be back! 😋👏
Classic Thai restaurant in IB for years, but this was our first time. They may have been short staffed but waiter/cook?/ Owner? Was very polite. Large potions, hot, flavorful. Great menu choices. We could almost see the ocean from our corner table. You can't go wrong by eating here.
Really good food and nice atmosphere. We tried the fresh rolls and satay chicken as appetizers. Both were great but the satay chicken was definitely the better of the two. The peanut sauce that came with the rolls was really good. For the main dishes we had the pad Thai and the combination seafood. Both were delicious and the portions were quite nice. The seafood dish had quite a bit of seafood in it and the spice level was perfect. For the price the dishes were quite big so we would definitely go back. The only thing that wasn't good was the Coke which didn't taste very good. It was clearly pretty old especially considering Santa was on the can!
First time to get Thai food in this restaurant. Delicious and authentic Thai food. Outstanding service. Highly recommended.
First time trying Thai food and we were most definitely treated to a variety of delicious flavors. We went with 4 exquisite dishes in an attempt to get a little taste of all the different flavors available. We decided on a Spicy Basil seafood combination, a Spicy Eggplant regular combination, Spicy noodles, and Green curry. I have to say that starting the spicy basil plate was a phenomenal way to be introduced to Thai cuisine. Everything was absolutely delicious! Only took two pictures because the smell was so good that I started eating and forgot to take pictures of the other plates! Will definitely be back!! Photos are of the green curry and spicy basil seafood combination.
Exactly what i expect from a Thai restaurant. Delicately fried spring rolls. Customized heat. Great service. Quaint decor. The garlic beef was phenomenal. The water refills were very prompt and never had to ask. Very pleased and will recommend to anyone and everyone
This place has always had very delicious Thai food served to the perfect spice. Quick service on top of it all make it a great stop if you're in the neighborhood.
My wife and I have walked by this restaurant and never tried it. Today was the day and I must say that the cashew nuts chicken was absolutely delicious. We will be back.
The customer service is great. The mango curry, and Thai Tea is some of the best in San Diego. Also Aroma is right off of the beach, so great location.
Very clean and service is awesome. Seafood combinations is tasty! Price is reasonable.

Always consistent. Always perfect. Been coming here for years. I've tried other places but nothing else compares. I love it!
Aroma Thai, great food and service in an intimate environment. No loud music, allowing for great dinner convo with family and friends. Comfortable seating for people of all sizes, shapes and abilities. No picnic tables, high bar stools, or annoying ice cream parlor chairs with narrow seats for little butts and vertical rails that stick you in the back. Our fav restaurant! Great food, great service, great ambiance, comfortable for every one. Aroma Thai checks all the boxes.
This place is such a delight. It’s a family restaurant vibe with food that is made fresh to order. I’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The flavors are always on point! Hidden gem in IB.

I recently visited AT with two friends. I ordered one of the lunch specials of panang curry with duck. It was amazing. The service was fast and my water cup was always full. All of my food was absolutely perfectly flavored, the service was quick, and the waitress was completely understanding when we needed to split the check three ways at the register. I am glad I found this place, as I missed good Thai curry after moving back from overseas, and this place hits the spot.
Love this place! just expect longer than normal wait times for your food. It's partially my fault for ordering take away on a Friday night. My order went in at 17:16 (as listed on my credit card receipt) - I was told it should take 15 minutes - and I walked out with my food at 18:01 (45 minutes total). Food is really good, though, so just know that you will enjoy a good meal.
We came here one night during our stay. Affordable prices and friendly service. They weren't incredible busy, but they were really slow bringing out the food. We had just about finished our food when the pad thai came out. At first I thought they had forgotten about it and I was like oh well, we're full anyway, but I feel like that's something this place could really improve on, bringing out appetizers asap, then bringing out the rest of the food as close together as possible. 20 - 30 min from the last dish to the others is crazy. Also, they didn't do fountain drinks, just can sodas. I think that could be changed or improved.
The food is flavorful and spiciness can be adjusted to ones' preference.
The red was decent. The only reason I would give 4 for food is because the soup that day was watered down, it lacked the kick I was expecting off a thai food. Other than that service was good. It was a really decent place to eat at and it was really relaxing.
Aroma Thai has some of the best curry I have ever had! Top notch. It’s creamy and full of flavor and can get as spicy as you can handle, I haven’t had one that I don’t love. The rice is fluffy and not tough or overcooked and perfect combo with the curry. I got crispy rolls and fresh rolls as well and they are both wonderful. The reason for 4 stars is that I have had a few other things there that weren’t up to par with some other places I’ve been to, but to each their own.

My husband very much enjoyed his paanang curry but my yellow curry had way too much onion in it.. made me sad as we do not have good Thai food in Albuquerque. It had all the qualities I loved - thick, creamy but really missed out on the traditional spices of the dish - ginger and tumeric were missing in almost every bite.

Food was tasty, and we ordered a large variety of dishes to try. However the staff was more interested in their cell phones and had to be approached for refills and napkins. It was midline experience at best.
Had high expectations. Family and I staying in imperial beach. First the one very redeeming thing was the pot stickers with curry sauce. We got ours on the side and it was awesome! Not so good was the chicken pad Thai. Noodles were rubbery and less than great. Flavors were basic and just not that amazing. They also didn’t include any napkins or silverware in our takeout bag. Golden curry was pretty delicious. Creamy and great flavor. All in all I would say basic and mediocre at best Thai food. If you’re used to good or great Thai you will probably be disappointed.
Came in for the first time tonight for dinner. The restaurant is kitschy but cute and clean. Was handed a menu and told which tables were clean to seat ourselves. Took a while to order bc they seemed understaffed, especially with the Postmates/DoorDash/Uber eats coming in fast. We got the Aroma app platter and spicy wings; they were disappointing. Tasted like frozen apps from Costco. The pad see ew was good enough though and a good portion, if not a little heavy on the fish sauce. Definitely better Than in the area, especially considering the price.
The food here was average compared to other Thai food I've eaten. I usually order Pad Thai, and theirs was good, but nothing extraordinary. I would've given them 4 stars if it was only about the food, but after calling twice with no answer, I wasn't wowed by their customer service. I had to phydically be there to place a takeout order. Apparently they use something like Grub Hub for ordering, which might be useful info in a voicemail message if they had one. I won't be eating here again.

Went Aroma Thai and we got there 40min before closing time and they denied us service saying it was too late to dine in and would not get to us. So we decided to go to another Thai place around the corner called Siam imperial. Aroma wasn't even that busy only had 1 table w a family of around 6. We won't be going back to Aroma Thai was just a disappointment.
My family tried Aroma Thai for the first time last night. We were extremely happy with the flavor and portions! However the pad see ew had an unexpected crunch, large clumps of eggshells, almost half an egg! It was also a little light in veggies so I added extra carrot at home. Overall, delicious but wont be ordering that one dish again. It is concerning that no one noticed that before it left the kitchen.

I’ve always been a fan of Aroma Thai and chose them out of several Thai restaurants within a mile radius. However, after a recent experience, I will not be going back. We parked in their parking lot and their fence it turns out, had come off and been left laying in a parking spot. The exposed nail fully punctured our tire, resulting in a flat tire. Understanding things happen, we went in to pick up our food and explain their broken fence laying in their parking spaces. They brushed us off and did offer any apology. Later we called back and were again ignored and after pushing, were told to leave a number so the owner could call back. We never received any call. With other similar options in the area, with similar quality, I would not go back based on the lack of basic customer service and concern for safety of their facility. There are just better options.
I just order wonton soup through Aroma Thai's website, walked to pick it up, and came home to find that all the cabbage is rotten and there was a worm in my soup. I called to tell them my issue and to get a refund and was rudely told that my problem is with door dash not Aroma Thai. I don't have a door dash account but apparently when you order through their website, it is with door dash. My issue was not with door dash and with Aroma Thai. I do not recommend eating here. Horrible food quality and horrible service.
The portions at this place are RIDICULOUS! Very small!! $7.50 for this measly portion of mango sticky rice??? The contained is about 4x4 inches. Rice is dirt cheap and you’re going to give hardly any? Also very lacking in sauce and somewhat dry. Extremely disappointed. Never going back.
