Opinions de Casa Varela Jaca
Very good menu at very competitive prices. The restaurant and staff are veterans who perform their duties excellently. Homemade food and desserts, and excellent bread. Easy parking.
I ate there more than once and it was very good. I highly recommend it.
Homemade food with the best service and at a great price. Without a doubt, a must-try in Jaca.
Excellent service and first-class homemade food, always offering the best and most essential dishes of Alto Aragón. For me (and for many others), it's a place with the same old essence, and it shows in every detail. The service is top-notch; they make you feel at home from the moment you walk in. The food is spectacular, authentic home-style cooking. Dishes full of flavor and very well prepared. The value for money is unbeatable, something that is greatly appreciated these days. A highly recommended place for anyone looking for a traditional place with great food. I will definitely return!
Varela is one of the last home-cooked restaurants we have left in Jaca. It's a family restaurant like those that have always been in the villages, known and frequented by those of us from here... You eat like at your mother's house and at a good price, we have three cooks who take turns cooking all day, who know which one is better... And they can offer you 4 or 5 dishes to choose from, the first, second and dessert, making it difficult for you not to want something... or to be able to eat something... They always try to make room for you and you can wait on the terrace which is a divine solarium, imagine in the cold winter... or when it's going to snow, has snowed or there's still sun... maybe you'll even take off your jumper... Order a homemade vermouth if you like, or a beer served by the brothers at the bar, who are super helpful and friendly and also order a plate of mixto that they have been serving here for more than 30 years, which is tuna with olives, chopped squid and anchovies, so you can have an aperitif while you wait your turn, and be patient on holidays, it's okay to eat a little later than your time... no one will get you up from the table to make room for the next shift either... and then after dessert, coffee and again, have it on the terrace and if you feel like it, after dinner...
A traditional place with wonderful, homemade food. It's not glamorous, nor does it pretend to be, nor does it need to be. You feel like you've traveled back in time to a bar you knew you were a kid. It's a family-run place where you eat well, at affordable prices, and with very good service. The paellas are delicious. And the terrace is enormous.
Excellent value for money. A very complete set menu. First course, second course, bread, drink, dessert, and coffee. Price: €14 on weekdays. €18 on weekends.
Don't expect luxury, but if you want a home-style meal, look no further, this is the place for you. Excellent homemade food with a friendly, family atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
Good afternoon!! I ate there and everything was delicious and very affordable. I left Jaca and returned after 40 years, and the food is still just as good. Alfredo and his family were very attentive. My sister Alicia and I loved seeing them again! I highly recommend it. Best regards.
We had lunch there on Saturday, and thank goodness we called to make a reservation because it was packed. It's a home-style restaurant where they offer six main courses and six main courses. All cooked just like home, with generous portions and very friendly service. The Bailo bread is also delicious. And the value they offer is hard to beat. We'll definitely be back again.
A good place for quality and price, homemade food, and very nice owners.
The best in Jaca, Casa Varela Restaurant. If you want to eat well and affordably, this is your restaurant. My sister Loli and I loved it. I recommend it 100%. It's a pleasure to see you again after 40 years. Best regards.
Everything was delicious and the food was very friendly with my military colleagues 6/86 - 6/4/2024
Very varied and high quality homemade food in Jaca. Totally recommended establishment.
Great homemade food
Quality and typical homemade food
Excellent and quality
Because visiting this place always leaves you satisfied... Homemade food... Friendly service... A 10.
Ideal for going with children, good service and homemade food
The sausage sandwich is delicious. Friendly service and great atmosphere.
Excellent service, spectacular food, we'll be back soon. Thank you very much.
Friendly staff and good food above all
A classic bar. For the people of Jaca.
Very good homemade food
Fantastic!!! Very homemade and delicious food. A little hard to find, but worth it.
The food is wonderful, at an affordable price and with good quality products. Homemade and freshly prepared food.
A family atmosphere. Good value for money.
Good food, good service, and a friendly, hard-working atmosphere. The flans are delicious...
Classic menu with traditional food, very good quality
A family place with delicious food, highly recommended.
Good service
Homemade food next to the grill, which makes it one of the bars you shouldn't miss in Jaca.
Very good menu at a good price and fast service
Cheap place to have lunch or dinner with a friend of mine. Always a place.
The food is perfect, well-prepared and prepared with lots of love. The people who work there are like family. I'm so grateful for everything they offered me and my coworkers. If you want to visit beautiful places, relax, and eat well like at your mother's house, you should go to Jaca and eat at the Varela restaurant. It's the best there is. Greetings to all of you—the Varela family. A hug from a Polish native of Madrid.
Homemade food
Very economical homemade lunches and meals
A 10-star lunch! They also serve lunch and dinner. Friendly service and home-cooked food.
Very good sandwiches and very nice employees
Good place to eat
Popular restaurant with a typical home-style menu "for working people". Quick and friendly service.
Affordable menu, good seasoning and good portions, it's a mansion with a restaurant in the back, Barcelona at the entrance and a large terrace, the only drawback is that you can find flies in the restaurant, otherwise highly recommended
Homemade, home-cooked food. Completely family-friendly service and a work-restaurant atmosphere, combined with reasonable prices, make for an ideal restaurant for any day's lunch. There are rumors of retirement. Hurry and check it out. Let's see if together we can keep that door open.
Very good
A place to eat very well at a good price. Authentically homemade food. Very good service. Don't be scared at the entrance, it's not very glamorous...!
A surprising place. It truly felt like being at home, at a family meal. We loved the atmosphere. The owner was very kind and patient. The selection is limited, but the ingredients are fresh and high-quality. The portions are generous and delicious. We'll definitely be back.
Traditional restaurant, home-cooked food, lunches, good and cheap, highly recommended.
Food and grilled menu on the menu, everything is very good, ideal for going with a group of screaming children.
It's not fancy, but you eat and are treated like you're at home.
Very friendly service, delicious food, and a fair price. I like to have lunch on a plate of chistorra, potatoes and ham or bacon, wine with homemade wine, and a carajillo (shot of coffee) costs around €6.
Very good deal
Good food and staff
Good place and very good food
Good value, homemade food and good service
Good value for money. Very friendly service.
Good service, good customer service, good value for money. Recommended.
Nice, homely
Homemade food, quality and price
Located on the outskirts of Jaca, where I personally wouldn't go without knowing since the area isn't particularly touristy, the friendly service and excellent food, grilled as it should be, are surprising. A quaint, family-friendly atmosphere. However, although a local told me that the house barrel-aged wine, with a slightly vinegary taste, is typical of the area, I would personally change it for a vintage. Highly recommended.
Good place to enjoy a homemade menu
A typical bar and restaurant, with very friendly service and homemade food with exceptional grilling.
Small portions and a bit overpriced
We stopped for lunch with family and friends on the way home from vacation. We Googled and, looking at the reviews, decided to stop by. It's a restaurant in an industrial area where the food is decent. It's very hot and noisy. Cleanliness is poor.
Not bad, without great pretensions
Without further ado... the service is decent and the food is homemade...
Acceptable
A long-standing restaurant in a residential area on the outskirts of Jaca, located in a village house. During tourist periods, there's almost always a line to eat a 14-euro menu. The only explanation I can find for such a success is the good price of the menu compared to the rest of Jaca's restaurants, and the fact that there's parking. The food is too simple, vulgar, and we didn't find it of the highest quality for the tastes of those of us who were there. Maybe it wasn't the right day, but anything's possible.
A mediocre experience. After waiting in line for a long time (be prepared for lines of 30-60 minutes), we finally got in and there were empty tables. They don't make reservations; you have to wait in line when you arrive. The dining room is fine, old but very clean, the waiting area and bathrooms are not so much, but I'll get to the point. The waiter was a guy and the older person were great. The other girl was friendly but a bit pushy. I was still halfway through my second course when she brought out my dessert, while I was stuffing myself with the second one, brushing off the flies that were coming for it with my other hand. Not only that, but when ordering coffee, they take a while (which I don't mind), but when I'm halfway through the coffee, they tell us they'll charge us and that they have a lot of people waiting 🙄 . In short, we have to stuff ourselves with everything to leave quickly and make money, after waiting so long, and there have always been empty tables, which is what I don't understand much. All this in the summer without air conditioning or a fan, eating while trickles of sweat ran down our backs and people fanned themselves with whatever they could. On the other hand, the food, while not very plentiful, was tasty, and the potatoes were very good. The meat was thin and very thin, but the homemade potatoes were worth it.
I went to a company dinner. It's true that the menu was very basic. Salad, appetizers, and lamb. A difficult location, far from the center. The dining room seemed cold and lacking in charm. Since we were a group, the acoustics weren't ideal. The service was decent, friendly. The food was decent.
Very good treatment, cool place, clean with all hygiene measures, traditional food ... Regarding the food; the paella was overcooked, tasteless, colorless, insipid, the truth is that it was not good at all, the raw beef, with a lot of gristle, of low quality, areas of the steak totally raw without even being grilled, a disaster, the potatoes were the worst of my life, rancid oil flavor, refried, impossible to eat, the raw fish, inedible, we had to change it for another, the only good things were the mushroom cannelloni, steak and the desserts, that was very tasty. A place that we will definitely not return to.
This is the second time I've visited this establishment to eat the set menu. The first time, the experience was awful; the second time, it was worse. I returned because the place (old, not retro-decorated) transports you back to a time when eateries were proliferating, which I prefer to the modern gastro-whatever-they-are: I find them charming, what can I say! I ordered hors d'oeuvres as a starter, and they brought me a sample (a slice) of the cheapest cured meats they could find at the deli, garnished with two frozen squid from a bag: a slice of greasy mortadella that I didn't eat, a slice of sandwich cheese, a slice of dry-as-dried ham, a slice of salami... Of course, they didn't forget to throw in a few strands of the plastic that covers the cured meat. When my 12-year-old son saw it, he laughed, "Dad, you've been ripped off." Their rice (small portion) with canned tomato and an overcooked egg gave me my revenge. For the main course, I had pork cheeks (three ungarnished pieces in the middle of the plate). While it seemed like little to me, I had a piece of badly cooked pork left over. My son didn't eat it. Tough and full of nerves. However, I asked to change the kid's portion for a classic that never fails: tenderloin (extremely thin) with fries, and they agreed. It's a shame, being in Huesca, to have to resort to that wild card. The service was fast, no-nonsense, home-style, and friendly. The dessert was not homemade (ice cream in a cone). It must have once had the atmosphere of a village restaurant where you could eat well, a bustling, lively place. Today, all that remains is the hustle and bustle. I travel with my son very often and I'm introducing him to the regional gastronomic culture (last January we enjoyed a succulent botillo in El Bierzo). Now, I'm looking for other restaurants to eat at these days in Jaca, although to my dismay, they have the sign "lounge-gastro bar".
Very slow service. Little variety. Post-war atmosphere.
We would like to highlight the waitress's rudeness and lack of attention, the dishes were too expensive, and be careful with the bread.
Very badly
