Opinions de Le Grand Comptoir Jamaica
Had the pleasure to be served by Nakeem, he was very attentive and very polite. He was the only worker who was polite to us after the security was so rude, it was a great way to end our holiday.
Le Grand Comptoir is a French-inspired wine bar and restaurant located in Terminal 4 of JFK International Airport, Queens, New York. Designed as a refined oasis for travelers, it offers a full-service dining experience with a focus on premium wines and classic French cuisine A. The ambiance is warm and elegant, making it a popular spot for passengers seeking a moment of calm before or after their flight. The wine list is extensive, featuring selections from renowned vineyards around the world, and the staff is trained to offer pairing recommendations that complement the menu’s bistro-style offerings A. Dishes range from Escargots de Bourgogne to artisanal cheeses and pastries, creating a distinctly Parisian experience in the heart of JFK A. Open daily from early morning until late evening, Le Grand Comptoir caters to both international and domestic travelers. Despite its upscale concept, reviews have noted inconsistent service, especially during peak hours, with understaffing and long wait times being common complaints B. Still, for those with time to spare and a taste for fine wine and French fare, Le Grand Comptoir remains a hidden gem in JFK’s bustling Terminal 4, offering a touch of sophistication amid the airport rush.
Why is this in this terminal. Not that it's a bad bar. It's just noise. I think it's wrongfully situated. Otherwise, it seems like a lively bar that belongs in a lively place
The food was reasonably enjoyable. I thought the nicoise salad was good. Yea I've had much better nicoise salad, but given this was an airport I thought this was quite good. The space was open and airy and bright. Many many tables. There were probably 20 guests total spread between the tables and the bar, so it felt lively. Unfortunately that would be problematic because there was only one server in sight. This was around 2:15pm on a Sunday. I felt bad for the young woman. Probably 10 minutes after I sat down, another guest came up to the bar, presumably complaining about the slow service, to which the woman said something like I'm by myself. 10 minutes later, which was 20 minutes after I had placed my order on the website using the qr code specific to my table, the woman came by to reconfirm that I had ordered -- she had already come by soon after I sat down -- which suggested something was going amiss. I knew this was true because two guys who came in after I had already placed my order got their food out before me -- one of them also got the nicoise salad 🤣 so it was not like that dish took longer to prepare. By this time there were perhaps another 10 guests who have joined, but also there was one more server at the bar, and two more servers around. But it still seemed she was the only one working hard, i.e., hustling. Anyway, another 10 minutes went by, 2:45pm, which was 30 minutes after I had placed my order, the food came out. This was not satisfactory, but I wasn't in a hurry, so I did not feel too frustrated. When I finished, I realized the guest next to me has been waiting a while to get the check. And we laughed together at how this place appeared to be poorly run at that time. I told her I had placed and prepaid for my order using the website, she said that was smart. Well, it was just luck, but in hindsight that was the better route. Edit: Reading past reviews, it seems "lone bartender" is not a one off situation, and "guy walking at snails pace" isn't either. 🤣 Props to the woman I mentioned above who was the only one trying to hustle and do a good job. My 2 ⭐ rating for service is mostly an opinion on management.
I had to come to eat my lunch before my long flight. Not so many restaurants options in JFK Terminal 7, so it is OK if you need to. The items in the menu are not fairly priced. The staff friendly and helpful. I had cranberry spinach salad which was fresh and nice. And had chicken sandwich which wasn’t as freshly cooked , it’s probably reheated. In addition to that I had Mocktail which was OK. The seating and tables are clean but not comfortable to sit for a long period waiting for your flight. However the windows looks at the runway which is nice.
Ordering via a QR code kinda sucks at these prices. Food was OK and drinks selection was good. Think the bar staff would actually have more fun at work if they were actually serving people. They’d probably earn more tips too. Had to wave to get their attention to ask for cutlery after they’d dropped our food to us and ran away.. Just could be way nicer by getting rid of the digital stuff. It’s not needed.
In the absence of options this is still an OK place to eat at Terminal 7. That said don't expect much, they only serve a bare minimum - sandwich with very little fillings. The rating is really for the restaurant itself, the service is really nice as there was only one waitress and she was doing her best.
I know crime is on the rise in NY, but I didn’t expect to be robbed when departing at Le Grand Comptoir. Crisps were tasteless. The burger had certainly been microwaved. Boiling hot to touch, soggy after 2 mins. Waitress was pleasant. No complaints there. I would say walk across to Hudson and get your food there, but $5 for a bottle of water got me remortgaging the house.
Overpriced, even for an airport. Food is grim - photo shows the Truffle Crisps - basically a handful of crisps on a plate covered in (hopefully it is) parmesan cheese scrapings with an invisible drop of Truffle oil. Service beyond slow and forgetful. Food and drink options in T7 are really limited and this is the worst one of the bunch. Avoid!
Where to begin? If I was literally starving to death, I am pretty sure I'd skip "Le Grand Comptoir". The food is beyond bad. The "service" almost non existent. Walk on. Bring your own sandwiches. Even week old ones would be better than this......
Service was terrible. We watched our food sit on the bar for 20 minutes despite there being about 10 people in the bar.
Slow service. I left after waiting 40 mins for a croissant breakfast sandwich. Manager never came by when I requested a refund. I Pre-Paid $30 for a sandwich I never got. What a joke of a restaurant.
Awful experience at Le Grand Comptoir (JFK Terminal 7). My husband’s chicken was served cold and tasted questionable, and the chips were overly oily. They also advertise menu items at the entrance that aren’t actually available once you sit down (for example, no cauliflower). The main issue, however, was the service. I never received my meal because our waitress completely forgot I had ordered anything at all — despite only having two tables to serve. When I asked about my order, she seemed genuinely confused. After re-ordering, the food still never arrived. She disappeared for a long stretch of time, and eventually we decided to leave. We asked the bartender for the check, but even that took a long time as we waited for the manager to come over. To her credit, she apologized professionally, and we ended up paying only for the drinks. 🙈 What a shame. The restaurant has a grand name and is the best-looking spot in the terminal, but it desperately needs better management and staff who can actually handle their roles.
Very poor service — staff were standing around chatting and watching videos instead of helping customers. When I asked for assistance, they ignored me. The bartender Ganesh delayed service for about 15 minutes even though it wasn’t busy. I ordered through the QR code but still had to flag someone down after waiting another 10 minutes. The bar area itself looked messy — empty beer cans were mixed with clean glasses, and recyclable were not separated. The only people who seemed to be working were the kitchen staff. For an airport location, where efficiency and cleanliness should be a staple of American service culture, this was unacceptable. Management should hire staff who actually do their job — as AI isn’t serving yet.
Flat beer, incredibly slow service and a grumpy bartender who said we absolutely had to use the QR code thing to order, which was awkward. Why would they not want the experience of an $18 exorbitant beer to be a little better?
Easily the worst airport dining experience I have ever had in over 40+ years of flying. I really should have read the other Google reviews before entering this place. Significantly overpriced based on the quality of the food and a 60 minute wait for chips and a dip! The scan/order/pay system automatically closes your tab with a 20% gratuity 40 mins after ordering which meant I left a 20% tip 20 minutes before the food even arrived!
Disappointing Experience with Overpriced Food and Poor Service We chose to order from this restaurant due to its convenient location near our flight gate. There was no line or wait, which seemed promising. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with coffee, while my mom got a bagel with cream cheese. The total came to around $38 (not including tip)—an incredibly steep price for a simple breakfast. Unfortunately, the coffee was burnt and undrinkable, so I ended up tossing it. Worse yet, we waited 40 minutes for our order. As our plane was about to board, I asked an employee for an ETA. She said she would check but never followed up. Ten minutes later, I asked another staff member, who was dismissive and rude, telling me to ask the other lady because she was too busy running the restaurant. When I explained that I had already asked, she sighed and walked away. I completely understand the pressures of working in the service industry—I’ve spent over a decade in it myself, including managing restaurants. However, no matter how busy things get, basic courtesy and communication should never be overlooked. Waiting 40 minutes for a simple breakfast order, especially in an airport setting, is unacceptable, and being met with rudeness when trying to check on it only made the experience worse. The rude employee eventually returned and asked her colleague about my order. Just as our plane was halfway through boarding, she handed it over at the last minute. Unfortunately, the sandwich was microwaved and just as disappointing as the coffee. Definitely not worth the high price tag, and if you are on a crunch- don’t go here. Just grab a snack from one of the convenience stores around.
I don’t drink alcohol. This guy told me I had to order alcohol or leave. I asked for a club soda and he said I had to sit somewhere else. Alcohol or nothing. This is sad and disgusting how you can employ such an animal to talk to people like this. Your organization is gross, racist and absolutely hateful with how your staff of creatures can talk down to someone. I pray you go out of business running things the way you do. No chance in hell you deserve an airline contract. I’ll be in touch with their department in regards to your treatment to people. You should really be embarrassed.
the worst restaurant/wine bar I've ever experienced. They handed me some sort of disheveled menu and then warned me that nothing on the menu is available for the most part. The waiter then asked if I would prefer pink white or red wine. All the wines are egregiously overpriced even beyond the normal airport ripoff. But the worst was the New York hamburger. I took one bite of the $20 rubber hockey puck and send it right back. Absolute garbage. Whoever runs this place should be ashamed of themselves.
