Opinions de Sybil's Restaurant & Bakery Jamaica
I visit Sybil's quite often. The food never disappoints and most of all the customer service is one of the main reason I frequent the place, I rather circulate my money where I feel welcomed. Both of the ladies are always pleasant kind and eager to help. Moon is the best she always treats me very kind.
I’ve enjoyed the food bought from Sybil’s on every occasion. The food is always fresh, tasty, nutritious and hot. The prices are favorable.
I'm not the biggest fan of spicy food, so when my coworker suggested we go here, I was a little wary, but the food here is great! I was able to avoid the spicy food. I have the chicken lomein. Sorry for the spelling. I had a roti and also a chicken in pastry! All were delicious! Next time she wants to come back, I won't hesitate! Can't wait to come back here. Friendly staff, might have to park a block or so away.... Very clean inside!
They came up on my tiktok feed showcasing pepperpot patties. I was sooooo happy I was in town. I told them I was coming and I did. They did not disappoint! I took one but ended up wishing I left with a lot more. It was sooooo good!!!!! I will be coming back for more when I visit NYC again.
Wow, simply amazing!! We went there on a Sunday and they had a huge selection of everything you can only think of. We got a few dishes and they were delicious. They have vegetarian options too and they have all sorts of pastries that were to die for. We also got the sorrel which was super tasty and their shakes are great too! Very friendly staff, super efficient and very courteous. Highly recommend!!!
I have been going to Sybils for years. I love the food. The people are super nice. The food reminds me of back home, and I came to the US when I was 12 years old. The memories come rushing back with the delicious smells and tastes. I not only find the food to be excellent, but plentiful and not expensive. I like this place so much, that I had them cater some very important events in mine and my families life. They not only came through with flying colours, but they also impressed our guests.
I only bought empanadas, a favor for a pregnant friend, lol. They were very tasty and fresh! (I ordered the Jamaican beef and chicken, and the Guyanese beef) The workers behind the counter were friendly and polite. Definitely will go back to try other foods!
Firstly, the food at Sybil's is always good quality and tasty. This review is based on the service. I ordered through Seamless for lunch. Moon was kind enough to call and let me know that some items were not available (the cook-up, which btw is so good). We were able to make a substitution and Moon also let me know that she will call when the other items would be ready. The extra effort around this was very much appreciated, and allowed me to plan my time better. When I got there Moon was helping another customer and was really patient and kind with her. I think this makes a huge difference when handing food off. My order was packaged very well, considering I had to travel with it was another big plus. I think these small things around customer service can really change someone's experience for the better and I'm really happy to have ordered from Sybil's today and was lucky enough that Moon was there. The employees at both Sybil's locations are top tier.
Best West Indian food in town! The staff is friendly and the food is always fresh! They cater large events and bake the tastiest cakes and pastries. You can call your order in ahead of time and they always have it hot and ready for in a timely manner!
So amazing! I already lash out the food so I can’t post a picture. The workers are so nice and friendly. I got dhal, rice, okra, dried fish and one boil egg. Best Sybil’s there is and the food has taste!!!
The cashiers were attentive and very helpful during the busy evening rush.
Best Caribbean Food in USA 🇺🇸 😋 #yummy #restaurant #newyorkcity #Manhattan #Queens
I first came to Sybil yesterday where I was greeted by a server named Donna who exercised the utmost patience and hospitality with me. It had been a long time since I last had Caribbean food and seeing all the good selections they had made me unsure of what to get. Donna was patient while explaining the dishes I was inquiring about and made sure I was happy with my selection. I got the chicken chow mein, curry goat, curry chicken, 2 different versions of the chick peas, their fried eggplant and plantains. Everything was delicious. Furthermore, I came back today for some food. I’m sitting inside as I’m writing this review as I felt like this place deserves to be experienced by all locals and those that love Caribbean food. I was met by Camille and Donna again. Truly a pleasure being served by them as they were just as sweet today as they were yesterday. If you’re considering take out and in the mood for Caribbean food, this is your place. And to all my brothers and sisters in Islam, this place serves Halal meat.
Pepper pot pastry, pine tart, and everything else, flavor is 💯
people are so nice and their food is good, good portions for decent price. jerk chicken sandwich, cheese roll, cook up rice, chow mein, dougla roll, chicken patty all too notch
Great service fresh food. Know the owners for years!
Camille and Donna have the best customer service. Every time I go there, the two of them go out of their way to make sure I’m happy. They’re always polite and smiling and always make me smile even if I’m having a bad day. I also see them giving the same support and kindness to other customers.
Their food is excellent but when ordering a large amount, they tend to forget to put some items. I live in NC so when I travel to NY that's when I load up. My order was over $200. So when they forget an item, I can't just go back. Have to wait till next trip for them to replace it. They should ship stuff over night. I have not seen a Guyanese restaurant here in NC since I've been here and that's 15yrs. So it would be nice if Sybils was down here. Still gonna go there as long as I can.
Great food no parking be ready to wait a Lil bit but worthit
Take out only, no seating. Baked goods as well as hot food. We tried the curry chicken with rice, chicken lo mein, regular and dhalpuri (split pea) roti, and a pine tart (pineapple). Everything was delicious!! The staff were helpful and patient as we navigated the menu, and the other customers were helpful too! We would for sure visit again when we’re back in NY.
I have been there 4 times and tried all the main dishes and then some, all I can say is, the food is the bomb. If you don't believe me go try it for yourself, promise, you won't be disappointed. I usually go every Sunday and this Sunday will be my fifth time. Every Sunday I go there I usually try something different and no matter what I order for the first time the food never disappoints me. Customer service with the 2 or 3 Lady's that are working behind the counter, A+ all day everyday.
Been here a few times their bake goods always on point. So I decided to try the chicken fried rice and some pepper pot patties. Both were delicious flavor was their in fried rice, chicken wasn’t dry but cooked to perfection. The patties were amazing adding the sauce added another layer too. Their homage juices are great as well. Overall I recommend this plate if you looking to try something and looking for something affordable as well.
I stopped by to buy some doubles while I was running errands. Best doubles I tasted in a long time.
Nice fresh pastries always, hot tasty food. Staff always friendly.
Work in the area, this is the best food around! By far! The woman sharing the food are very engaging, respectful and courteous!
I live in Schenectady, New York, but my job has me in Queens, New York often. Many of my neighbors have told me to try this place when I am there. On their recommendation, I went there today. They have a department of health rating of A on the window, and once I walked in, I knew why. The place is incredibly clean. The food looks incredibly fresh. I ordered the jerk chicken sandwich, and the lovely lady who waited on me was nothing but super polite and took her time crafting my sandwich. I grab the jerk chicken sandwich with a soda and everything came to under $12. The sandwich was incredibly big with fresh hunks of jerk chicken that I watched her pull from the bone , amazing flavor and overall delicious. I would highly recommend going here if you get the chance, I can only speak of the jerk chicken sandwich, but everything in there looked amazing. I wish I had enough time to try absolutely everything. They are great people who treat you like family, no matter how long the line is, they put Detail on your food And make sure it comes to you correct Do yourself a favor and stop in here, next time I’m down there I will definitely try some of their home baked goods as well 10 out of 10 well done SYBILS
Great customer service, very demure! The beautiful lady and the gentleman (from Region 2) with the tattoos are amazing and provide great customer care, very warm and friendly. I ordered peas and rice with jerk chicken, cheese rolls and sorrel drink. Deliciously made and a great taste-journey to the caribbean. Glad I stopped by!
I stopped by after seeing them on social media and they did not disappoint! I got the pepperpot with rice and peas. Oh my gosh! So delicious! I also got a guyanese chicken patty and it was so flaky and delicious. The pineapple tart was perfect. Will be coming back again and i highly reccomend
I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful Guyanese restaurant for the first time, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience, all thanks to the kind and generous Dawn. From the moment I walked in, Donna warm and welcoming demeanor made me feel right at home. She guided me through the menu, offering her recommendations and patiently answering my questions. Not only did Donna help me choose a delicious meal, but she also went above and beyond by surprising me with some extra dishes to try. Her thoughtful gesture allowed me to savor even more of the restaurant's amazing flavors. Dawn's exceptional customer service truly stood out. It's evident that she takes great pride in ensuring each customer has a memorable dining experience. Her dedication and generosity left a lasting impression on me. The food itself was a delightful journey into Guyanese cuisine, bursting with authentic flavors and prepared to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant, not only for its mouthwatering dishes but also for the outstanding service provided by Dawn. She made my visit unforgettable, and I can't wait to return for another delicious meal. Thank you, Dawn, and the entire team at this restaurant, for an exceptional dining experience!
My family has been stopping by Sybils on our way from leaving NYC for over 20 years. I stopped in on 11/4/2024 for a load of Baked treats, Guyanese pies and Roti skins (and of course a little curry). The cheese rolls and Guyanese beef patties barely made it back. Two lovely Guyanese women helped me with my order. One of them was named Moon (she was warm and welcoming). I can't remember the others name (but they both were friendly). I told Moon I'd be back again for our Guyanese Fix. Much love to this Old school eatery. The food quality hasn't changed. If you like clean, quality local food (This place is all of the above) -Christopher NY
Please go in there for West Indian meals and baked goods. They do not have coffee after 12 but I’m sure they have tea. Drink tea, eat good food, and be happy.
A guyanese staple. We had the curry chicken, curry Goat, roti, beef patties and pine tarts. The guyanese beef patties were well seasoned and filling. Service is cafeteria style and quick. There is limited seating at this location but enough for a family of four although most people were ordering to go.
1st time @sybilshillside … I came for the Jerk chicken sandwich… and oh my , love this place… the jerk chicken is ridiculous, so delicious, flavorful and beautiful kick to it 🔥… and I love how the sandwich is made , they take a cooked leg quarter, pull the chicken off it to make the sandwich, and lettuce, tomato, cut up fresh pineapple, and add it… add some sauce .. so yummy, and delish… pineapple is a great addition and the spices make this one amazing sandwich… $8 yup what a steal … can’t wait to return to this gem … and of course they have other amazing dishes I will try next… Erie Mon…
Roma and Cindy was amazing they worked so well as a team to get my food together even with me asking them a million questions about all the dishes
Food's great, no doubt, but the service could be faster. I'd want people served ASAP, like, in ten minutes, tops. I've seen some folks bounce because of the wait. I know they making bank 'cause the food's so good, though. ⏳🍽️💨 #Food #Service #Waiting #Customers #Bank
This is the 2nd time to this location. The did is amazing. I got the oxtail rice and peas this time. Rice is so so good the oxtail so tender that it melts in your mouth. Definite high recommendation. The ladies are very friendly
Don’t let the line discourage you from trying the best Guyanese restaurant and bakery in Queens. They have it all, doubles, pot pies, Jamaican beef patties, oxtails, coconut rice, fried rice, yucca, cabbage, macaroni and cheese, and so much more. Everything is made fresh and from scratch. This place is always busy and I can see why.
Review: Top-Tier Guyanese Flavors at Sybil’s Bakery & Roti Café – Queens, NY My son and I stopped by Sybil’s Bakery & Roti Café in Queens, and the entire experience was nothing short of amazing. This Guyanese, West Indian-style restaurant delivers bold, authentic flavors and genuine hospitality. We started with pepperpot and cocoa bread—a rich, flavorful dish that tasted like a warm embrace from the islands. The cocoa bread was soft, slightly sweet, and perfect for soaking up the delicious pepperpot sauce. For our main course, we had oxtails, curry goat, and vegetable fried rice. The oxtails were tender and perfectly seasoned, the curry goat was full of flavor with just the right amount of spice, and the vegetable fried rice pulled it all together beautifully. To drink, we enjoyed peanut punch and sorrel, both refreshing and packed with authentic Caribbean flavor. The fish sandwiches were another highlight—crispy, juicy, and unforgettable! And we couldn’t resist finishing our meal with a slice of guava cake, which was moist, sweet, and absolutely delicious. What truly stood out—beyond the amazing food—was the hospitality. The staff was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and inviting. Whether you're dining in or taking out, Sybil’s offers top-tier service and flavors. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Guyanese-West Indian cuisine served with warmth and care!
A Must -Visit Caribbean Gem in Jamaica, Queens! This Caribbean bakery is an absolute hit! From hot, flavorful West Indian dishes to an array of mouthwatering delicacies, this place truly hits the spot. Honestly, I was so excited (and maybe a little overwhelmed) by all the amazing options that I completely forgot to take photos! I tried the currant rolls, meat pies, and cakes—and let me tell you, nothing disappointed. Every bite was fresh, rich in flavor, and just what I was hoping for. I already know I’ll be making another trip to sample even more because this place is easily a landmark in its own right. My only suggestion? It would be great if prices were more prominently displayed, and the checkout process could use a little (okay, maybe a lot) more organization. But aside from that, hats off to the team—fantastic job! Looking forward to my next visit. Update : 2nd visit - took some pics & tried the doubles ( it’s ok - not too overwhelming and not too bland . It’s not gonna take you on a mental Caribbean Vacation but if that’s your hopes then better buy a plane ticket :)
I decided to try Sybil’s carrot cake after seeing it on my TikTok feed. It was my first time having carrot cake, and while I wasn’t sure about it at first, I quickly grew to love it after a few bites. The frosting was great, though I wish there had been more! The cake was soft, moist, and less sweet than most cakes I’ve had, like those from Whole Foods. I also tried some puff pastries, which were decent, but the carrot cake definitely stood out. I’ll be back for sure, and I might try their hot food next time.
BOMB! Found them through TikTok. I ordered late through GrubHub so I wasn’t aware that chicken fried rice was a lunch thing but wow! First time trying Guyanese food (I only know Jamaican and Dominican Caribbean food) GUYANA TOPS ALL OF THEM! The chicken roti (I probably didn’t eat it correctly lol) was GOOD! MEAT FALLING OFF THE BONE! ABSOLUTELY delicious! Their Butter Flap is soooo good! Their Mac and Cheese is so different from how Jamaicans make it! So unique! I can taste the mustard I guess that they use? My least favorite was the bread pudding. It tastes like perfume but again, I’m not used to Caribbean food. 😭 Customer service PHENOMENAL! The lady was sweet to call me and to make sure I was satisfied with my order (and to let me know they had ran out of the fried rice). So so sweet! I pray this restaurant continues to be abundant. I will order again!!! If you can do pick up, do pick up because Grubhub of course gonna charge those fees! Loveeee! Thank you to this restaurant! 🥹🥹🥹🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
Delicious and HUGE portions! The chapati they gave me was bigger than a large pizza! The jerk chicken tasted more bbq sauce-y than I expected but it was still delish. I ordered a side and the portion that came could have easily been a meal with some rice. Curry chicken was delicious, too, and came in massive separate plates for the rice & peas and the chicken & sauce. Would definitely return! Pictured: side order jerk chicken, standard order curry chicken with rice & peas.
Walking in this place is fresh curry smelling and clean... I'm thinking maybe today is a good day. The lady was very courtesy and polite. I asked if her food was spicy because that is what I like and she told me no its not. I appreciated the honesty because most lie and say yes. But she did say her pepper sauce would help so I purchased some food. Her food wasn't spicy but it was flavorful... Her pepper was nice but I forgot to ask for extra. Now what she called dalphouri wasn't that in fact. But was still edible. Guess it will be a long time before I find a real roti spot again.... Her portion was small for the price $23.41 for two plates.... But for her service and honesty I gave her four stars....
The food was very tasty and good portions. I loved the roti. The food was packaged very well also. Loved the pepper sauce. Only thing I had a problem was that they gave me tamarind sauce to go with the black pudding instead of the traditional “sour” we Guyanese usually put on it. I don’t like to eat black pudding without it and I had to because I didn’t want to waste it. So I will have to go to buy some sour elsewhere so I can enjoy this black pudding. I would recommend this place have sour because not everyone would want tamarind sauce to go on black pudding.
Found this place working in the area. It’s a restaurant/bakery with delicious Guyanese food. The food is good and they have a lot of bread option. For you bread lovers out there they definitely have something tasty for you. I wasn’t too thrilled about the service and didn’t fully feel they appreciated my business.
The service gets a 5-star rating but the quality and taste of the food is inconsistent. However, it is usually generally good. One of my favorite things is dhal puri and fish cake with sour and pepper sauce. I recently went in on a Saturday morning around 8:30 and got the dhal puri made to order! It was so hot and yummy! I love their pone but sometimes it’s super brown and then other times very pale. Recently had their chicken curry which was superb. The tripe and chicken cook-up rice left much to be desired. The provision and dumpling soup was also bland and kind of sweet due to the ripe plantains. Love their egg ball, cassava ball, fishcake and beef patties!
The food was decent, and while the pastries were a little on the dry side, the great service from Donna really stood out. She was friendly and attentive.
Kisses to the chef for inventing, the now legendary, PEPPERPOT PATTY. OMG amazing 10/10. The crust - flaky, buttery, soft. The meat inside - tenderism. Soon as you buss that ting open and the pepperpot smell hit you, there’s no going back. As a true Guyanese I can appreciate the authenticity of this patty. I also purchased fried fish, Mac & cheese and curry goat with white rice. My toddlers enjoyed the fish and mac. The fish is fresh & crunchy. The curry goat was decent. Definitely would recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for authentic GT food. There’s a plethora of options.
The food was very tasty. The line of customers bare witness to this. I have a few bones to pick with y'all. The portions are microsized and vegetables no longer come with the dinner. Chicken roti used to have grinded chick pea in the roti.Additionally y'all cheap with the sauce. My white pudding (formally black) came with half a mini cup of sauce. Wzup with that? Inflation at its finest.
Delicious tarts. Very reasonable prices and helpful staff. I tried 3 of the tarts; guava, pineapple, and cheese. All of the tarts were flaky and delicious. The cheese tart was surprisingly spicy and savory. For three tarts was $4.50 which is reasonable. Cash and credit are both accepted. No public bathroom available. Very limited spaces inside so not a dine-in location, but more of a takeaway spot. They do offer food for lunch and dinner and are open early for breakfast. However, there are limited options when going early like I did, which was around 8:30 AM. Definitely would come back and try more of the food. 01/2025
Sybil's Bakery & Restaurant makes everything fresh and seasoned properly. When you walk in, you feel like you're home. Very welcoming and just good positive vibes. The food is always on point! The staff is super friendly and extremely courteous! I had the curry goat with peas and rice. By the time I finished my meal I was ready for a good nap. I drove almost two hours to get my fix that I can only find at Sybil's. Until next time my friends, stay on the lookout for the next tasty meal.
Whenever I get a chance to get something from Sybil's I do. Everything is great. However, I am oftentimes stumped by the bill. Today I purchased two bake and saltfish, a plain bake n cheese, three Guyanese chicken patty and two cherry buns. Total $29.37😳 WTH!!! Why is two bake with saltfish $14? A plain bake is $2. Does that mean the saltfish is $5? I can accept the slice of cheese being a $1 but saltfish $5? Not to mention their menu online says a codfish n bake is $6😱. Still ridiculous, but 🧐. C'mon guys, whose doing this pricing?
Not a fan of Guyanese and Trinidadian cuisine, my only interest at Sybil's is their pastries, narrowing it down to the mouthwatering cheese rolls and pine tarts. The service is great. I recommend the pastries.
Great West Indian /Guyanese tasty products .However the service is deteriorating and inconsistent. I agree with the customer from NC sometimes they do forget to give you everything ordered . Some training is needed : staff chats too much with no mouth covering while holding your incomplete order in their hands in an open container (not hygienic). The most disgusting part is that while they chat customers are waiting to purchase .
My curry chicken was dry like a dessert. So much peas n rice, hardly any salad. Very disappointed in what I received for my half hour drive.
Came through because of a viral video I came across on Tik Tok & wanted to support a small business. Spent $30 after ordering 6 pepperpot rolls, a fish cake & 2 cream sodas. Customer service was disappointing, the two women seemed visibly annoyed when we asked for more sauce for our pepper pot Pattie’s. Again we ordered 6 & they only gave us 2 barely filled sauces. Overall I wasn’t satisfied & the Pattie’s were not enjoyable due to the lack of sauce that was advertised in the viral video & they are unfortunately very dry on its own.
The food was good, especially the pepperpot, and I had curry goat it was good. For both foods, they give me one set of bones with hardly any meat on it. egg ball was way too spicy to much pepper, and I eat pepper. ..be careful cause they overcharge you when u buy a lot of food. The price is different from the price they have up .. everything was like two dallor more, if I go back, I am only buying one food.. They way too pricey
I bought some butter flaps but was highly disappointed that there was no butter in the flaps please Sybils put some butter in those flaps after all were living in the USA
Sybil’s was my second experience with Guyanese cuisine, and as a highly recommended spot, it certainly showed promise. The pricing was reasonable across the board, though the oxtail definitely sits at a higher price point than other dishes. The ability to grab a table and eat on-site was a nice plus, and I enjoyed the few bites I took before leaving. However, there are a couple of areas where the experience could be significantly improved for clarity and quality. However, the experience needs improvement in a few areas, starting with facilities: I did not see any visible customer restroom. Additionally, the service process needs clarity. The transparent ordering barrier seemed to cause issues with clear communication; I believe my server didn't hear me correctly, as I received four items instead of the five I had requested. I’d suggest that customers double-check their order before payment. The restaurant would benefit greatly from having a microphone system or clearer display/confirmation process, and making sure to show the entire order to the customer before bagging it up. From a food quality perspective, the okra was unfortunately very dry and barely edible, suggesting a need for better quality control on the vegetables. Despite the minor miscommunication and the dry okra, the overall experience was positive enough that I would come back to try more of the menu. Its location close to the F train makes it an easily accessible option for a taste of authentic Guyanese food.
For the owner and establishment on hillside I hope my message goes out to the owner of this establishment I always come and support your business however I was there over the weekend sitting having a meal overseeing the scenery as I always do and yet again your workers were bickering and fighting among each other In the meantime the lines were building up and all the workers are standing at the cash register and not serve customers one of your staff always encourage the rest of your workers to live like dogs and cats in there she's always complaining about her low wages of salary and how much work she have to do however she's always standing at the cash register and not helping the older women in front serve the food and we ask customer for over 15 years like to come and sit and enjoy the scenery and enjoy our meals after establishment however your staff donna have no manners she have no training and she encouraged all the rest of your workers to act despicable as her I will start making videos when I come in there and post in them let everyone see how donna be encouraging the rest of your workers to carrying on in your place of business
I tried to place a order the aunties in the back was talking and laughing with out helping me. The music was so loud I had to keep repeating my self and couldn't hear the response. I ordered food 2 patties only got 1, which tasted good and wanted my second one. 6 Cheese roll was good and fresh, I ordered 2 Guyana bread didn't get any in my 2 bags, I got 2 butterflaps, 6 pinetart wasn't so good. Food came up $46 didn't get no receipt or bill and paid with my credit card. Overall not a good experience was shorted stuff and not sure how much I was charged with no receipts and stuff missing. Would be a good place if people was more serious about helping customers. I live all the way in Brooklyn....
👎🏾 The food isn't good enough for them to have such bad attitudes. I've brushed it off, thinking it was just a bad day, but it keeps getting worse and it's not just me because I'm seeing them in arguing with other customers, and then continuing to talk about the customer after they have left, which continues to make the experience worse for other customers. I've just walked out during some of those times. I don't want them making my food after arguing with people. The taller woman with blond streaks is always smiling and nice, but she's hardly ever there when I go. The other 2 women that are typically always there are bad for business. It's starting to be pretty empty when it's just them, and I see why. Other customers are getting tired of it. They're very mean and rude, and I'm just not ignoring it anymore. I'm just not eating from there anymore. That's bad energy. The business would be just as busy as the Sybil's on Liberty, if the food and attitudes were better. I really wish we had more Trini options in the area. You have to have WAY better food for me to keep ignoring the bad attitudes. This restaurant's food just isn't worth continuing to support. They gotta hire people with better customer service skills. It doesn't have to be Disney World, but at least basic respect and appreciation for customers. 🙄
I recently placed an order for multiple items from Sybil restaurant on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, NY on 7/14/24 at 7:06 pm. Regrettably, I was extremely dissatisfied with the taste of the Pine-tart It had an overwhelming flavor of baking soda or baking powder, which was quite unpleasant. When I tried to return one of the unopened packs, the salesperson refused, stating that I had already left the building with the items. I strongly urge the restaurant to prioritize providing high-quality food and reconsider its return policy. Based on my experience, I will not be returning to this location. We are regular customers of the Liberty branch, so I highly recommend the Liberty Ave location for all your pastry needs.
When you enter all you hear is coolie music. The ladies serving can hardly speak proper English. Their curry is very crude berbice style. Pastries are decent. Over priced and quality of the foods are sub par. The liberty av store is top notch. I am extremely disappointed after spending $108. My non Guyanese friends were not impressed. Eat at your own risk.
I ordered from Uber Eats. Spent well over $80. The food had flavor. That’s the only positive thing I can say. I feel robbed of the serving size. I order 2 containers of curry. When the food arrived, the curry came with rice and beans. This is not how it is advertised on Uber Eats. 3/4 of the container is rice and peas, and 5 pieces of chicken curry sprinkled on top. That isn’t how Guyanese cuisine is customarily served. This is more like Jamaican food. I thought I was buying enough curry to provide left overs. There was none. Because the curry came on a bed of rice, there was no gravy- so the roti I bought was pointless. Perhaps the food description on the Uber Eats app needs to be updated by the restaurant to provide better representation of what you will actually receive. I also ordered potato ball and the potato inside was uncooked. Like a larger baked potato piece of potato. Again, not customary of Guyanese cuisine. The quality of what I received brings down the Sybil’s reputation. Order from liberty avenue if you can. Edit: originally gave 3 stars and came back to edit and remove a star because the chicken is raw and under cooked in the curry. It is red with blood inside. Come on man, this can actually make people ill.
This Sybil's on Hillside is trash bad for business, the Patties are greasy and buss up on the bottom, food no good nothing that thy cook I don't trust, you people that cook and work there should be ashamed to give people trash to eat, when I call the woman was rude and tell why I come there if the Patties is no good and hang up the phone on me. I will waste any money on thy garbage that thy sell for food.
Avoid Doubles here: they are always premade and cold. Avoid avoid avoid!!! Their patties are a little better, but after the double experience I’ll be staying away. if you do get any patties, get the oxtail patties, which is my last picture
The is so mediocre. Everything is lacking something. I spent $63 on trying different items and my sister spent $58 with other items and it’s fair to say that their food was overhyped. That place next to Gemini lounge on Jamaica ave have way better tasting Guyanese food.’ I’m positive that this won’t be my top choice to get Guyanese food. $100 wasted-You live and you learn and now I know
Unfortunately wasn't a fan. The best thing I tasted were the beef pies and even those were dry and had a bit of a sour taste. Could be that culturally I'm not used to the food, but I typically am a fan of Roti and other Caribbean fare. I guess what I'm saying is take my review with a grain of salt and if people in the community think this place is great, their opinion is more valuable than mine.
Service was okay, but wouldn’t recommend here over the one on liberty. This is nothing like the original Sybil’s food was stale, possibly spoilt from day before, felt like I was about to throw up how bad it was. ended up throwing the food away, waste of money. Let’s hope I don’t get food poisoning or I’ll be back but not for the “food” Do not recommend going here. Need better staff and cooks for sure with the reviews, wish I read them before going.
whoever said the food is not good enough to have such bad attitudes is 100% correct. the rice is bland and flavorless like minute rice chickpeas are hard food is BLAND. not worth the hype at all. horrible service. NEVER going back
I'm only giving 1 star because of its name. I usually go to the liberty ave location but I not want to wait on a long line. When I got there, it was empty. I ordered 55 dollars worth of food. My card declined because I had to authorize this purchase. Regular bank card situations. The lady at the counter was telling me she wasn't going to keep letting me insert my card and that she had to close (it was 8:30pm and they close at 9). All the staff was telling me I was broke and wouldn't let me pay for the food. A couple minutes later the card went through because it was approved and they had attitudes. I'm not understanding how you treat customers like that. My feelings are hurt and I feel disrespected. At the end of the day, the customers always right.
I try then few years ago , was no good (they slap some rice and curry and hand it to you, decided to try then again after social media , still not good , too much salt And no special and different taste from my kitchen 😔very disappointed. , would not recommended
This is the second time I made the error of ordering from the Sybil's on Hillside. On both occasions, the food sucked. Today, spoiled veggie Chowmine and soggy fried whitening were delivered by Uber eats. Very disappointing.
Very poor customer service over the phone. Needed to place a large order in advance and Moan(person I spoke too) said, payments has to be made over the phone...Who is willingly giving their card information over the phone and why must I trust you with my card information? It gets worse... After explaining my comfortably with this process, she proceeded by saying "well i don't know what to tell you" rudely. No other suggestions such as paying online (which their website isn't secure) or coming in to order and paying in person (you're welcome). Overall it was a bad experience over the phone. They are much better places within the neighborhood and elsewhere that serves better tasting food and treat you with respect. I will no longer be spending my hard earned money especially in this day and age where cyber threat is at its highest at an unsecured place like this and for poor customer service. I hope this review helps not only customers but Hillview Sybills as well.
Just left this place on hillside an it was a horrible experience. I was so excited to try this place out for the cashier to have a conversation while I was ordering. She asked me what I wanted an I told her everything I wanted an was charged for it but I only received half my order and didn’t realize it until I was home! Never again!
I had black pudding and roti delivered last Monday. The roti was stale and hard. The black pudding was tasteless, dry and the rice was not fully cooked. Worst food I have ever had. I threw it out.
Most disgusting service! yes it may sounds bad! 2:30pm today who ever looks at the camera! i order food as it was been taken out a other customer came in the server leaving my food open unattended! to take the other customer food out! so DISGUSTING Service!
Cheese rolls and pinetart isn't that good to many flour and it falls apart stop purchasing from today
First the employee she was nice who took my order. I went into the store to order my food because ordering your food is supposed to be cheaper in store vs ordering on door dash. So I ordered my food and when I got my receipt and compared it door dash and everything was higher than door dash prices. So I ask the employee can I speak to manager she said her name is Camel and she will be in later if not later she will be in the next day all day.So I called later on that day and no manager both days. I called today which is 3days later and still no manager. Then the employee that was on just now hung up before I could finishe my sentence so I had to call back. This is ridiculous now. Also I would like to mention the food taste also change it was greasy no flavor and the Dah roti size changed it became smaller. When she was making it it look like nice size pieces of chicken but when I got home to eat it 3 pieces Out of the 2 pieces and small piece of chicken only the small pieces had the most meat on it and no potatoes was in the bowl. Not sure what is going on here but hopefully they can get it together. Crazy Ordering off door dash is cheaper than going in person.
Great Caribbean food and bakery, baked daily, breads and pastries They have a variety of Guyanese/West Indian style food. Many of the food/pastries tastes very good. Always busy/crowded especially on the weekends. Some of the food/ bakery products are over priced. They need to throw the black pudding/blood pudding away instead of selling it the next day. I bought a dish of the same and it was slimy , couldn't take it back because we were already home. The portion size of the food/curry is very small comparing to other restaurants that sell the same kind of food. The staff is very friendly but the environment they are working in is very cramped. Take a ticket and wait your turn to be called is the system which is very good. Waiting area is more like standing in a NYC crowed E, F train rush hour, very cramped. They have ONE cashier which is ridiculous in such a crowded restaurant , need some improvement on service.
Services is very bad . I just went there to order food . I have a full body suit on cause of weather, face cover up im next to be served. Tell me y nobody would serve my like i came there to beg . A indian man came in & they all saw him , im black guyanese these ppl know me & because the way i was dressed they judged me smh im never going back to sybil … its real mest up cause i thought those ppl was different.
The soup is very oily. Their pintart is not good. The jerk chicken is horrible! This is a place I will never return to. I must add that I’ve tried these things on different occasions.
Dont waste your money here might as well go to Sybils on liberty. Better yet go to Trincity on lefferts and 111ave. Once you try Trincity you will never come back here. I will be posting pictures. The most i would even come back here for is maybe the pastry and bakery but i would have to be desperate to eat from here. Its not even about the money its about the QUALITY FOOD. First off I got a curry chicken roti- the curry tasted like the bottom of the pot got burnt and they didnt care. The entire curry has a burn taste to it. Leaving a bad after taste. The roti was stiff. The curry shrimp taste was ok but they put so much potatoe wheres the shrimp. On top of that its baby shrimp. You will see the picture. The dhal puri was also stiff and didnt have much peas in it might as well stick to bread. The pudding(black and white) is so dry and the ends of it is such a turn off why sell something like that. They gave water down tamarind sauce to eat the pudding with. Terrible terrible. The cook up rice should be only vege cuz there was literally one pice of chicken that broke up in my order. The pastry needs better filling not so much crust. The cassava pone here is so small for the price. If you go to the sybils on liberty its a bigger piece for the same price. I CANNOT BELIEVE I GOT ALL THIS FOOD FOR MY FAMILY THAT DIDNT EVEN WANT TO EAT IT. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME TO GET A PARKING THERE.
DO NOT ORDER FORM HERE. Please do not waste your time. I ordered an $18 oxtail and this is what I got. 2 pieces all bone. This place is a rip off and O can’t wait for it to close down. It’s disrespectful to the liberty ave location. The community deserves better. I ordered delivery and can’t return this garbage.
Arrived at 940pm and found door to be locked when clearly the time of closing is at 10pm. I was very disappointed, when I asked the staff lady inside I just want to purchase items already on the display but the lady than just completely ignored me and I left. Wish they would close when the hours state it's closing or if they have closed, allow customers in until closing time. Giving this review based on the service I received however I do love the food here.
This Sybils is not living up to the name. Bought a few things yesterday, and I'm disappointed. The tennis rolls were dry and falling apart, the dhall puri was cold and very small like a Mission burrito wrap, the cheese rolls and pinetart were flat and falling apart, the beef and chicken patties were also dried and tasted like old pre cooked chicken and also have a sour taste, peanut milk was milk and nutmeg. I asked for Chinese /blackeye cake and was given the cheese rolls instead. I asked for 4 dhall puri, but they only had three, I told them I would take a roti. The roti was thick and tasted like "roat" made with lard. This place should not be in business with the low quality service and food they offer at this location. They had lefttovers trays of food late Sunday afternoon and will sell it the next day. THE ITEMS ARE OVERPRICED. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.
