This is a restaurant that always hits the mark with the highest standards of food, service and atmosphere. We enjoyed A gorgeous valentines dinner last night with a superb Camembert dish for me and home made smoked haddock fish cake for My partner, this was followed by a most sumptuous surf and turf with the most tender steak I have enjoyed for a long time and langoustine cooked to perfection for me with lamb loin for my partner which I did have little taste of and it was melt in the mouth good. It would have been rude not to try the home made sticky toffee pudding which is honestly the best I ever tasted and I know I will now have a hard time enjoying another as much !!! Thank you all for another night of absolutely top class food and service x x
Came from London on a day trip to the Lake District and was immediately enchanted by not only the location but also the food offered at the Ivy House. Locally sourced from suppliers and made with warmth, the Ivy House is a must for for those visiting the area and wanting to treat yourself to the local cuisine. I will be sure to come back and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and friendly staff.
The lamb was really tasty, my parner also has an intelorance that they went out of their way to accomodate. Staff were really attentive and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert was also 👌
Had a wonderful evening meal with family. Small dining area with limited tables but nice atmosphere and decorations. Food was really tasty and service quick. Would cone back again.
The food tasted great and was well presented - our steak mains were one of the best we've had. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will return - highly reccomend!
Restaurant and building was immaculately presented and finished to a high quality. Beautifuly presented food that was cooked perfectly, fab drinks choice and friendly staff! Didn't realise you could also stay there!! A must visit when I the area!
A great venue, a little expensive however as we were out celebrating our anniversary, it was well worth this visit. Hand to get to feom our camping and caravan club site!
Small privately owned restaurant serving delicious well-presented food. Owner and staff are friendly and very efficient. Great to be back in a restaurant but they are still following Covid recommendations so felt safe and tables a nice distance apart. This is such a lovely way to support local businesses and so pleased to see it has survived. Would give it 6 stars if I could!
Lovely food and friendly professional service in pleasant setting. Evening meal slightly better than breakfast, but both very good.
Excellent food and service. Would heartily recommend.
Being good Friday it has to be fish and chips beautifully cooked light batter fresh fish
Excellent vegan options and great service.
Lovely restaurant, excellent Valentine's meal
Excellent dinner. Good menu, interesting choices and not mad prices. Parking is a bit of a struggle but ok if you walk a few yards.
Great meal tonight. Service was really good and the food lovely. Lamb beautifully cooked and Guinea Fowl very nice. Sticky Toffee puddings all round at the end rounded off a fantastic evening.
What a fantastic restaurant. Great to come to the lakes and not have to pay over the odds for sausage and chips. Gourmet food just 10% more than local pub grub. Recommend the haggis and pig cheek.
Went twice. High quality restaurant but reasonably priced. The food was cooked to high standard. Good local produce. Not too much, not too little. Friendly staff always polite and quick efficient service. We'll done.
The breakfast choices and service are really good. I recommend the smoked salmon and eggs. The full English is also amazing, if you can eat it all. You can pretty much order what you like. We didn't eat here in the evenings so I can't comment.
Outstanding food, with fantastic service and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended!
The ambiance was fantastic, a really well decorated place, with fantastic staff and lovely food. We had drinks in a lounge room while we waited for our food to be ready. We ordered a few different dishes, and all were absolutely fantastic. Everything was reasonably priced, and would heartily recommend to anyone wanting good food and good atmosphere!
Recently enjoyed a lovely meal here on 3rd march for our anniversary. We were served by a delightful young lady who was efficient and friendly. The food was very good and restaurant nicely decorated. We fully recommend and will return.
What a wonderful restaurant! The food, decor, ambience and staff all 5 out of 5 stars! We had the goat cheese & pear starter which was mouthwatering (see photo) and haddock and chips which was crisp, light and tasty! Would definitely return and highly recommend!
We had a lovely meal here on 1.6.23. All our dishes were delicious, the staff were efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was gentle and relaxing, making it a special evening out. We will be returning. Thank you Ivy House.
Had a wonderful family meal to celebrate a birthday. The food was lovely and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Ivy House is highly recommended and a hidden gem on the outskirts of Keswick.
Awesome Christmas Day meal - as always top draw food and service from George and his team. Super starters, awesome beef main and superb dessert - perfect portion sizes and quality - see you next year!
They know how to cook meat! We had pork, lamb and beef steak and they were all cooked to perfection - the pork melted in the mouth! The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, and the food tasted as though it was all homemade but even better! Highly recommended
Absolutely delicious food. An eclectic mixture of ingredients that worked really well together. We booked this quite last minute on our way back to the hotel and we’re thrilled with our choice. Also had a good kid’s menu.
We had an amazing anniversary dinner here! Every detail of the food was delicious and we were very well looked after. The décor is cosy yet comfortable. The wine was great, too. A real gem in the heart of the Lakes - well worth hunting down!
Had dinner here recently. Food was brilliant. Had the cheek for starters and duck for mains. For the price and setting this was perfectly aligned. Cocktails were also great. Note the opening times (5.30-8.30) only mean last orders at 8.30!
I live in France and came on holiday to the Lake District to visit my grandparents. It was the first time we had been to the Ivy House and the food was excellent. We all loved our food, whether it was meat or fish it was very well prepared and we enjoyed it. The cheese platter I had in the desert was also very good. We highly recommend this restaurant and I will gladly come back the next time I am in the area! Yohan
Food was absolutely delicious, the keralan lamb curry was beautiful, glad I chose here for my birthday meal.
A fantastic place to eat, if you're in the area I would 100% recommend coming here. The food is delicious and the waiting staff are very attentive and polite. I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding, it is to die for. I will definitely be coming back on my next trip to the Lake District. One thing to note is the roads around are slightly hard to navigate but it's OK as long as you're driving slowly around the village.
A truly wonderful evening with friends made so very memorable by dinner and amazing service at the Ivy House near Keswick. I have to say, the food was stunning, accompanied by an extremely attentive and friendly team, this is a hidden gem and deserving of recognition. Really well done 👏
Probably the best food and service in the Keswick area...a real gem of a place. Great menu and 6 star service. Thank you Alvin and Lorrie...we will be back.
Lovely restaurant that was our only option on a Saturday night where everywhere was booked out. This fine dining restaurant was tucked away in a odd the track little village. It seems to be a hotel with rooms. It was elegantly decorated with very professional serving staff. The food was absolutely delicious. It was pricier than other places, but we all enjoyed our meals. I had the special keralan chicken curry and the trio of lemon for dessert. Everyone enjoyed their food and was the best meal over the long weekend. The atmosphere was very quiet as was mostly empty, so we felt a little conscious that a group of 6 friends was a little noisy. The staff were great, if not a little shy and perhaps new to the role? They did a grand job though. Highly recommend the food here.
Good find - definitely a hotel restaurant (not a pub), pretty quiet, but excellent service and good food. Kitchen clearly cared and was imaginative. Wood pigeon was tender and went well with the black pudding. Lamb fillet was tender and pink, and generous portion. My daughter’s lamb curry was really tasty and served with a proper south Asian roti. Worth a visit for sure.
The ambience of the restaurant was lovely but lacked a bit of atmosphere with only a couple of tables used midweek before Christmas. We had a lovely meal with dishes that you couldn't get elsewhere. I had a wonderful curried haddock, sweetcorn and potato chowder, and others had venison and juniper casserole, which they raved about for ages. Excellent cheese platter as well! Shames cider and beers weren't small brewery or local
A pleasant meal. Service was exceptional but lacked a little atmosphere. Food was good but it felt a tad pricey. Nice place but not sure I would rush back. Best thing by far was the service. Friendly and attentive.
Very nice restaurant and service. The food was excellent.
Lovely decor and very helpful and pleasant staff. Starter was pate on sour dough toast, one small slice with a large round of pate. We found the pate to be lacking in seasoning with not a lot of flavour. The temperature of the pate was too cold and if it had been at a slightly better temperature the flavour would probably have shone through more. We would give the starter 2.5 out of 5. I had the rump steak and pepper sauce and my partner had the hake. Both were very tasty and cooked well. We would give the mains 4 out of 5. What was worrying was the fact no one asked us to check in for Track and Trace. There was a bar code to check in on the wall but due to lack of internet access in the area it would not connect so we were unable to log in. No one asked as to leave our name and address as contact details. Once the vaccine has been given to everyone for COVID-19 we will come back but until that time we would not consider it. Just to add, we did notice the waitress wiping down our chairs and placemats when we left with antibacterial wipes.
We stayed at Ivy House for three nights and had dinner with them in the first. I have to say, the food was delicious; the fish was so tender & fresh and everything including down to the berries with dessert, tasted locally sourced. Service was slightly abrupt (depending on who served you), although some people would just call that efficient. We were pleased to see the staff were still all wearing masks & deep cleaning every table & chair between each customer. Parking is a bit tight, but it's a lovely little hidden gem off the beaten track, which we would highly recommend.
Dined here for an evening meal to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. The food is good and this is our second time to this restaurant. We both had 3 courses and coffees with minimal alcohol and the bill came to £100 for two people. Which in my opinion was rather expensive really for what we had but what can you do. The staff were very friendly here and the food was served quickly but not too fast so we didn't feel rushed. I think if you were to visit you would not be disappointed. Well done Ivy House
Nice place! The service was really good, and the food was enjoyable. Overall, I’d recommend it, some prices are a bit excessive… £6 for a small portion of bread £30 for the mains
Fantastic service! The waiters were brilliant, very helpful, attentive and kind. Unfortunately the food was the only let down, cooking method for the steak did not lend itself to that meal, and the dessert left a lot to be desired. But a good experience overall.
What a beautiful place this with stunning food. My partner order the duck parfait I think it was....the flavours were gorgeous. I ordered the surf and turf from the Valentines menu and it was beautiful. The lobster tart was amazing. My husband order the steak with a peppercorn sauce, it didn't get brought out with the steak. We brought it up with a waiter and waited a bit longer. Nearly 10 minutes passed before it was brought out. They were very apologetic. The food was gorgeous though. My only other point would be is that it's perhaps not the best thing to move tables and chairs from one room to another. One table was moved through a small gap banging it on the wall which made us all jump. The booking and sorting of a bigger table should be better planned as every customer was looking. I watched a lady raise her hand for a waiters attention several times while this was going on. I have gave this review 4 stars because of the food. I understand the owner was cooking that night. We will definitely return.
The food is out of this world from starters to mains to desert . Service in its self was great only two down sides were when the mains come i had to wait an additional 10min for my peppercorn sauce so my dinner was half eaten my yhe time it came .it's a pitty as the food was amazing. The second was it was valentines night all romantic and the room we were in they moved a table from our room down stairs and disrupted the room as it banged against the wall with a clatter. But apart from that it's a place you want to go food is amazing and the place is a hidden gem will be back and hopefully change from a 4☆ to a 5☆review
I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money.
A lovely, upmarket meal if a little pricey. Attentive service. The booking process is a bit quirky. I booked 2 weeks beforehand and confirmed the day before. On the day of my booking, I received a message saying it had been changed to 1930 from 2000. I replied that this was not convenient and was told that was OK. When I arrived at 1945 the waitress wanted to show me to my table, however, I wanted a pre-dinner drink having travelled some distance. All OK in the end but I got the feeling they wanted everyone finished early. By the way, the beer is bottled so when you ask for a pint per the menu, you get a 500ml bottle. Less than a pint.
First of all, do not think this is part of the Ivy chain rearaurants. The name, font, green colour as well as logo is very similar ( nearly identical) but this has nothing to do with that. This is a very average and overpriced independent restaurant which I encourage you to stay away. We were group of five and none of us enjoyed their food. Not recommended at all.
Lovely setting, although there is no parking for customers not staying at the hotel. Once we ordered, the starters took about 35 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, the ‘vegetarian’ starter we ordered had chorizo in it. Unfortunately we realised this too late. Kindly they took it off the bill but offered no explanation to how it happened. When the mains came I ordered steak medium rare, it was underdone and more like rare, but not too bad I couldn’t eat it. Another person ordered lamb, which of the the pieces she got, one was great and the other was also underdone, when we asked to cook it some more so it was medium rare, the waitress was rather patronising saying we want it medium, when it was clearly rare. We did correct her saying we would like it medium rare. When we got the bill, peppercorn sauce, which was an extra £2 on the menu showed up as £2.50. When I questioned it, she said ‘let me check’ and then after some time came back with a new receipt. Overall the quality of the food was lovely. The quality of the chef and waiting staff not exactly great.
