We have been coming to this restaurant for little over a yr now. It's a great place to come have lunch which is what I like to come in for. Service is great the staff is very friendly. Lunch prices are really good and the portions are big. It's not too crowded. I have been here for dinner as well and can get busy at times. You can never go wrong on the lunch menu. I have tried atleast 3 of the dishes and they are all great. Another plus are the peanuts!. They have a good drinks selections. TRY THE CHEESE BREAD!!!..
If you want to enjoy a classic and have a unique experience with tasty food then try this place. It’s a casual place with a fun atmosphere. They have good size portions so share a plate or plan on taking some home. They serve their famous cheese bread which is addicting. Kitchy atmosphere and you get a basket of peanuts to shell and toss on the floor.
Very professional and friendly service. Dined here on New Year's Eve and they went above and beyond. Restaurant was fully packed and my food was not late and perfectly cooked.
Brought my mom here for an early dinner. She had the scallops broiled and I had the trio of scallops, steak chunks, and chicken. Chicken was so so. Probably won't get it again. What made up for it was Debbie our server. She's on the ball. She had, I believe was 7 tables and was amazing . Always making sure we had everything and did it with a smile. Thank you Debbie. She's an asset to this location.
We had such an amazing time on Sunday Food was so dang awesome The service was amazing I only wish I remembered the girl's name So much food had so much food left over to take home I didn't even think about taking desert we were so full I should have got dessert to take home LOL
Great place, Rib Eye and the Tomahawk steaks are Great, Salad and Bread is delicious, nice Bar area with good service,Beautiful art work and cool displays everywhere, large parking lot, it's hard ta Beat this place
This is by far my favorite spot to visit specially during Christmas time! The place feels very warm and cozy! I enjoy everything about it. They have these magnificent slices of garlic bread that are to die for! I swear I can eat that with their speciality salads just while there and take my entree to go! My favorite drink is the sour green apple martini, never disappoints! I recommend this cozy restaurant 💯%! Oh and of course it’s kid friendly, I’m sure all kids will love this warm cabin style restaurant.
This place is old school great. My family and now friends have come here and to the other Clearman’s restaurants and they haven’t changed a bit. Tasty steaks and other dishes and it’s all included! Steak or fish or chicken, potato, rice, salads and the famous, delicious cheese bread. Their desserts are awesome. So glad this awesome place is still here after all these years. Love it.
Yeah, you can still throw peanut shells on the floor. We arrived for lunch with a group and they had plenty of room for us. timely service, lots of art on the walls, Tiffany style lamps so its nicely dressed up (some would say it's dated) a pretty good menu, they didn't list salad options online but they were on the daily menu. I had the steak sandwich with salad and rice, the steak was cooked to my perfection and the toast was quite tasty although I think some would find it too greesy.
My Wife took me 1st time inside was decent Christmas explosion sound system for music really needs updating service was good only complaint was we ordered the unlimited salad n bread and our waitress didn't ask us if we would like more other than that we ordered our food everything was delicious will definitely come back to try different items swordfish was amazing salad and cabbage was amazing also price was decent and quantity of food you get was great. Highly recommend.
If you ignore the freeway nearby you can imagine yourself in Big Bear eating at a snow village. I came here as a kid and it did not disappoint as an adult. Great portions, great options, the salads, the garlic bread...yum and yum. I walked out 5 lbs heavier. The service was fantastic and we got to watch the Dodger game with our 24oz cold beers. Definitely recommend.
Great scallops. Done to perfection, nice thin breading. Worth the price. Probably the best I have ever had. Love the cabbage salad, blue cheese salad and cheese bread. Never miss going there when I am in California.
My partner took me here on a date. It was great. Don't underestimate their portions. Pretty big. The food was great. Cozy ambiance, and really nice staff. Shout out to our waiter. He gave us helpful tips to enjoy our meal. We ordered the rib eye dinner meal. It comes with a baked potatoe, rice pilaf, and cheese bread. The cheese bread is amazing. Eat with caution.
Nostalgia at play here. This place hasn't changed since I was a child. Dark and moody with an entreaty to throw your peanut shells on the floor, the atmosphere is almost as good as the food (appropriately dated music would have been chef's kiss). Ribeye steak cooked to perfect temperature and very flavorful. Baked potato slightly overdone on the outside. But the cabbage salad and cheese bread was, as always, the stars of the show as far as my family is concerned; we always take some home. Our server kept the water flowing and was very attentive.
I've yet to be disappointed here. From the salad to the apple pie dessert, I can't say enough about the food, service and atmosphere. Make this a once a month stop for family dining out night! You'll be glad you did!!
This place is one of my favorite locations to frequent, and every time I go It is always consistent and amazing, Jacob, Jessica, Sarah, Isaiah, Lek, and Bryan Are my favorite servers, the main manager Stacy is super nice and attentive, the servers always keep my drinks full. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to stop by and enjoy a wonderful experience and if you can ask for any one of these people to assist you.
We've been enjoying dinner here for about 55 years. We started at the Covina location. Logs inside and out, and peanut shells are thrown on the floor. Just a huge mountain cabin vibe. The food is excellent and tasty. Our server, Darlene, was top-notch. We celebrated our 50th anniversary here. Very impressive restaurant. Come on in 👍🏻
Definitely make reservations before you go here. My husband and I were coming back from Los Angeles to stop here for dinner. Fortunately it wasn't ridiculously busy. We were quoted a 30-minute wait and only waited 10 minutes. They do not accept reservations unless you're a very large party. It's about $50 a person if you have a regular meal on your own but the meals are so huge just easily shareable. We shared a sirloin steak and shrimp meal they cut the baked potato in half and each of us got half of everything. They do charge a plate charge of $9.95 to cut a meal in half but even at that we were both full and we also ordered an appetizer of zucchini which was excellent. Who couldn't even eat all the food that we had. We had good service just because of the pricing.
Large portions and the same flavor and taste they have had for years. Service has been excellent the last couple of times I went but maybe that was due to our party being sat in the bar area both times and not by request. The bar area has TVs showing sports. The restrooms are under renovation. Males have to use the trailer out front and the women are using the men’s restroom inside.
Wonderful place for a Valentine’s dinner! Friendly and accommodating staff. Our food was delicious and I got two full meals with the generous portions. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love this place. Always filled with people having birthdays , I have gone there celebrating many anniversaries and my birthday too! Great steaks and the cheese bread is to die for. Bottomless Salads .
My family and I have been coming to North Woods Inn locations for 30 years! Love eating here at Christmas time! Even if its not the holiday season, the decor and vibe is fantastic. Definitely a place to come celebrate with friends and family! Service is always excellent and the food is delicious! Our waitress was on top of our drink refills and was friendly. Reasonably priced. There is a $10 fee for splitting a meal. I recommend splitting a meal for sure. All meals come with rice, baked potato, cabbage andddd salad! Bread is so yummy! Could eat just bread, cabbage and salad lol. Shrimp was OK, steak was cooked how we asked but a little chewy. Did not need a reservation on a weekend at 4pm. We drove an hour away just to have a holiday celebration dinner, its that yummy! Can't wait to come here again! Such a fun, lovely time! You won't be disappointed!
The food here is really good. I really enjoyed my small plate steak plate I ordered from here. I was able to finish it myself. The freshly ground hamburger steak is actually a lot for one person and could be enough for 2 people if its shared. The clearman's Tropical Punch cocktail was really tasty. Perfect for a good dinner like this. 😍 I appreciate the service here 🙏..Thank You.
What an incredible lunchtime experience at Clairman's in La Mirada! I opted for the lunch special, and everything from start to finish was absolutely fantastic. The bacon grilled chicken sandwich was a true highlight. It was a perfect blend of smoky bacon and perfectly grilled, juicy chicken. It was honestly one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. The baby back ribs were a masterpiece. They weren't just tender; they fell right off the bone with the slightest touch, just as ribs should. The flavor was rich and satisfying. And then there was the filet mignon. Tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection—it was everything you want in a steak. It was clear the quality of the meat was top-notch. Overall, every dish was delicious and I was thoroughly impressed. The lunch special at Clairman's is a must-try. I will definitely be back for more!
We moved out of the L.A. area in 1992, but this place still remains one of my favorite restaurants ever. When we come back to California to visit family, I can't wait to eat here. Really look forward to starting off with their AYCE salad & garlic cheese toast, that's what I miss the most. The atmosphere is pretty amazing too.
We’ve been going here for years. It’s not a super fancy steak house as far as quality but the atmosphere is so nice. Snow roof, cabin feel, lots of artwork and friendly staff, the kids love it here. The cheese bread and salad is amazing, we’ll dine here just for that. The steak is hit or miss, depending on who’s grilling. Sometimes it gets over cooked and has to be sent back, which is wasteful but it gets dry and bitter. When done well as a true medium rare, it’s so good. Staffs are always so friendly with the kids and make them feel welcome. Our kiddos have named the best upfront, Bear Steve lol They have a lot of food options too if you don’t want a steak, just all around great restaurant. Our favorite server is Donald, he’s so awesome, friendly and always on point. Thank you Clearman’s! Oh how can I forget, they let you put your peanut shells on the floor, kids love it!
Free orange sherbert on your birthday! We had a great time here for my wife's big day. The lights are low. The service is spectacular. I had the 13oz New York Strip Steal, medium, and it was delicious. The brisket sandwich and scallops were also great. The decor is perfect. This is a hidden gem of a steakhouse where you throw your peanut shells on the floor.
First time here but was expecting big things from what I had heard. Salad was amazing. Steak was amazing. Cheese bread is addicting as can be. Had a wonderful server. Prices were good. Peanuts tossed on the floor is a great vibe. Will certainly be stopping in again to enjoy everything about it. Busy evening but great place to enjoy good and football on a Sunday evening and will certainly be back again.

This is a great place to enjoy a family meal. There is something for everybody! Feels like a home cooked meal in a great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!
Great place for family to enjoy dinner together. The salad and cheese bread are so good so you have to be careful not to over indulge before you get your main course. waitress was excellent.

Two of us went for dinner on a Friday evening, the place is big and the section we went to was about half empty and we got seated quickly. Service took a bit of time at the beginning but was pretty good overall. The menu is basically apps, sandwiches including burgers, then mostly steaks or seafood, there's good pics of it here on Google. Prices seem to start at around $30ish, but the sandwiches are less than that. They serve a cheese bread that's really good. I got the Lumberjack top sirloin 9oz meal, it was good just the steak was a just a little burnt on the outside, it was still juicy though. Salad comes with ranch dressing already mixed in apparently, ours had too much though. I got a couple of cocktails that were good.
Was staying at a nearby hotel within walking distance, The old school look of the restaurant is what attracted me. Pricey menu but excellent service and food. Cozy warm funky atmosphere. My only complaint was that the two greeters at the entrance desk were wearing communist face diapers. Everyone else I saw were not wearing communist face diapers. Greeters, or anyone for that matter, should not be wearing communist face diapers. Everything else was great.
Loved the concept of throwing peanuts on the floor hahaha. Great atmosphere a little thrown off at first with the darkness and the animals all over but once inside I really enjoyed the ambiance. Went during lunch not too crowded. Enjoyed the salads a lot. A bit sad I could not try the cheese toast as it was not gluten friendly but my friend said it was delicious. We shared steak and shrimp plates. Really tasty the rice was just a little off.
Celebrating a birthday day for a adult. Food; steakes, salad, sandwi he's, soup, baked potatoes were great. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The celebration was a success.
Don Don seemed rushed and overwhelmed....never greeted or introduced himself....he mentioned Ribs were available that night, but didn't go over the details.....once our order was taken he brought out the two salad bowls stacked inside each other and left them that way, no separation....bottom of bowl clean? Bowl contaminating salad?...shortly dinner was served, again all 3 plates stacked on top of each other like a layer cake? No ice tea refill...we were able to get his attention when he was rushing by....so with that in mind a gratuity is earned....so I'm not sure I would return....FYI....The hostess didn't acknowledge the thank you after she seated us, which I should have taken a sign of the lack of service we would receive....
I would give this place a 5 if it weren’t for the somewhat dated decor. The woodsy cabin in the snow theme is great! If it could be more modern, it would be perfect! Now the food and service are another story. They were outstanding! Our waitress was awesome! She knew the menu really well and the drinks too! She made some really good recommendations. We started with a couple cocktails while she brought out the salads and cheesy bread. You can’t go to North Woods Inn and not have their red cabbage salad. It’s famous! I personally like to mix it with the green salad and eat it with their yummy cheese bread. That’s a meal in itself! If you plan to dine here, make sure you’re really hungry! Portions are hefty! Or main entrees were the 20 oz ribeye for my BF and the Rock lobster tail for me. It came with a loaded baked potato and rice pilaf. I also got a side of the cheddar butter to see how it tasted with the potato. Creamy cheese heaven! After that, we. Shared a Mudslide Pie for dessert that was soooo decadent! I think I fell into a food coma afterwards! Did I tell you our server was amazing? She was great. She checked on us a lot, but not enough to bother us. Only enough to make sure food was good and our water and drinks were refilled timely. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone with a big appetite. Be prepared to spend a little. It’s not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it!
Service and food was good as always. But I expected a nice round filet but I got two little squares. One over done (requested med) the other perfect. The lobster...huge! But on the verge of over done. All in all a very good meal. My wife's shrimp were also a wee bit over done. I had filet and rock lobster and wife had top sirloin and shrimp. 6/22/2024 7pm reservation. I will still whole heartedly recommend Clearman's to all that ask!!
Overall was a good experience. Ambience was good and festive for the holidays. Wait staff was great. Food was pretty delicious. Only hiccup was the host went missing for a bit prior to seating. No one really knew where they went but all was good in the end.
Service was great. Big restaurant. Extremely busy on Father’s Day. We had a reservation (checked in and seated within 10mins). My my steak was not delicious. My husband skewers steak dinner was cooked to perfection. The kid’s chicken strips were good. My favorite: The Decorations, and style of the restaurant.
Peanut shells on floor, old mountain decor and fake snow on roof, what else does one need? Old school steak place with solid drinks. Sat at bar and had amazing service. Pulled pork sando the best, onion rings solid and cheese garlic bread...fantastic. have a happy hour too. Gets busy on weekend. An iconic spot to at least hit once in your la life.
We asked to be seated in the bar. They led us to a table where the person cleared the dishes off and sat us down. Table did not get wiped off. No peanuts offered, we had to ask for some. After about 5 minutes of sitting there the waitress said she would be right with us. 10 minutes later another waitress saw us and asked if we needed anything. We told her what happened so far. She got us water and peanuts. Another 5 minutes came and finally took our order. Was not the greatest experience. We usually get great service.
1st time here today & overall, it was pretty good. Took a few minutes for staff to notice us to get seated, but that was not a big deal. The overall look of the place is pretty old school, cabin vibes. You can also throw your peanut shells on the ground! The portions here are big, so I was definitely able to share a plate. The steak and scallops were very good! No complaints, and let's talk about that cheese bread!!!! Sizzler who!? Am I right? Lol. Service was a little slow and seemed like 1 gal for the whole floor beside the other lady behind the bar. Either way it didn't ruin the experience to defer me from returning again, I'd definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu.
Clearman's North Woods Inn La Mirada is the snow topped log cabin you see off of the 5 Fwy. Like the Clearman's in West Covina, it has that same old school cozy atmosphere with the dimmly lit glass lamps, wood furniture and bowls of peanuts you can shell, eat, and throw the hulls on the floor. However, the food seemed better than Clearman's West Covina. For example, the rice was fluffy and not clumped. Also, the cheesy bread had just the right amount of butter and not saturated. The standout was that blueberry ice cream sundae. Get it. You won't be disappointed. Like the West Covina location, the prices are also higher. A 6oz steak dinner will run you about $40, but the portions are just as big and I'm sure you'll end up with leftovers. However, for a Friday night, this location didn't appear to be as busy as Clearman's West Covina. Maybe that's why the food seemed better?
This is a unique vibe, that feels just like you are up in the mountains in an old trappers cabin, filled with Grandna and Grandpa's furniture. The log walls and vintage paintings and even a few deer heads and taxidermy animals give it a cool old vive. It feels like one of those themed pop up venues but its been around for years. You'll have a wooden bowl of peanuts on your table to munch on while you check out the menu and it's customary in these parts to throw the shells on the floor. It's good to be a steak lover if you eat here, the menu is not extensive but you won't be disappointed. Be sure and try the the salad with the vinaigrette red cabbage mixed in. Its served family style, and again, unique and delicious. Waitstaff is always friendly, and there is lots to look at while you dine. Kids will love the peanut part!
Tiffany was our server. Awesome service. She was super helpful, friendly and prompt. Dinner was great, and we took salad home. Try it mixed together with the cabbage, quite good
I love the atmosphere of this place as it is very cozy feeling! The staff is excellent and super friendly. I liked my meal but it honestly could have been better. The scallops and baked potato were amazing! But the fried chicken lacked flavor and so did the steak. On top of that it tasted charred and was super tough. Otherwise it was a pleasant experience.
Super good food, fairly expensive, but they didn't have any "hamburgers" just some weird sandwich that wasnt bad but 100% could never be considered a hamburger which was a bit disappointing. Went here several times while working in the area and got the filet minion a few times and the steak and lobster was super good, everything is a bit pricey but definitely a treat. Service was great every time, just very disappointed about no real hamburgers as they could totally do some great hamburgers and just seem to refuse too 🤦♂️🤷♂️ My favorite by far was the filet mignon and the steak and lobster 😋
April 2025: Iconic restaurant chain. Food is great, despite the ever increasing prices (but that's everywhere). Came for dinner, but during the last hour they were open (something I dislike doing, almost as much as any restaurant doesn't love late diners) so my experience I take with a grain of salt. I personally prefer some of the other locations more - like Covina.
I can’t say anything bad about the experience! It was overall very good and pleasant. Food was delicious, wait staff was friendly and timely, and while we were the last guests seated for the night we didn’t feel like we were being pushed out at the end I’d the evening. We had the lobster and top sirloin, and the swordfish. Both great choices! And the sides were phenomenal. It was nothing so extraordinary that I feel it deserves a 5 star, but it was great overall.
Food was Amazing. Service was outstanding. Only thing was when booked reservation on line I did mention it was our anniversary, but nothing was done to celebrate it. Disappointing

Place is really Dark inside, got the porter House as you get to see my reviews I usually get Steaks 90% the steak was not cooked the way I ordered it , the taste the taste was not there the rice it was ok the potato was good the cabbage was good service was good , the chicken taste it better the the porter House steak. Don’t know if I want to come back to this place.
First time there for my birthday celebration. I wasn't that impressed. My baby back ribs were very tough, their signature cheese bread was very soggy. Others in my party were happy. Guess it was just me 😬
I've dined at Northwoods any time I'm close for over 40 years. Quality was way down on the steak for steak lunch but the cost was only $20. I love the salads and cheese toast. I hope they increase the prices and improve quality because low price low quality will just drive them out of business.
Dinner prices have skyrocketed. Salad and bread was as good as I remembered. The chicken was small and extremely oily. The first waitress was not friendly, never asked us how the food was, nor ever gave us refills. I asked for another server, which she was much nicer and had a smile. The atmosphere seemed blah and empty. The place used to be so packed. Not sure if I would go back.
The food was good but not really delicious. The service was great! We went for the atmosphere, paintings, and ambiance. Takes you back in time to the lumberjack and mills of the pacific Northwest. One note of caution, the sawdust covering the floors and bathroom carpets made breathing difficult . Not good for anyone with allergies. I left soon after my food was served and took it to go due to an allergic reaction to the sawdust.
The rice was dry, no flavor. Steak was pretty good. A bit undercooked for me, but overall. A decent experience. Garlic bread is good. Salad was okay, nothing much to talk about it. Basic thousand island. I just feel like the food and decor is stuck in the 1990’s. I do like the darkness of the dining hall. It does give a cozy, steakhouse vibe, but I think they should renovate the interior. Not a huge fan of peanut shells on the floor. My baked potato was decent. I usually like mine with a lot of butter, so I’m happy with my baked potato. I think there are a few steakhouses that are a bit cheaper, and better than this spot. Friendly service. My waiter was checking multiple tables. I spent like $70 on my meal. I don’t think it was worth it
Upon entering the smell was horrible. Smelled like a hamsters cage. It was the peanut shells all over the restaurant. The food was decent but the service was horrible. They would check up on us every 20-25 minutes. I had to keep calling our waiter over. The service was different with the tables around us. He was attentive with the other tables.
So I come to this area for business and been dying to try this place for a few years as always seeing it . WELL,HOW DISAPPOINTING? DAMN, SWORE IT WOULD BE GREAT .. I read these other reviews and something tells me this place was great at one time. The menu is really great with a lot of options, except sides. But a place that offers steak and seafood to have frozen steak that you can clearly taste as it was also very dry. Should have known when they brought steak sauce with the steak vs ask if would like it. .. Again, disappointing.... literally a few hundred bucks wasted
I've been going to North Woods my entire life, and it is a special treat to eat here. However, this past Tuesday (11/25), the hostess was not very friendly (we had reservations for 7:30, and we arrived a little bit early). She just seemed snarky and not overly warm/friendly. Our table was nicely set, but the server seemed like we were an inconvenience. Since most of us had ordered drinks at the bar, we only asked for water at the table - this seemed to set the tone for the rest of the service. The green salad was mostly dressing, so we didn't bother asking for any extras. That cabbage salad was good, and the cheese bread was the same as always. The dinner portions were kind of small. The combo platter chicken was a very small wing and a small thigh. I ordered my steak medium, and it was dark throughout (no pink). The server did come back once to fill my water, and asked how everything was, but that was it. I think a good 20+ minutes passed before she came back to our table, even though she walked by and saw that we were done. She eventually brough to-go boxes after we flagged her down and asked, but this all should have been anticipated. The service was no different than what you would expect from a budget/casual restaurant, not a place like North Wood's. The place was not very busy, and there were quite a few empty tables. For some reason, the server was having a bad night, or was upset that we didn't order drinks and split the huge dinners instead of each getting our own. Having gone to North Woods since I was child, this was definitely a disappointing experience, and we certainly won't be rushing back to this location.
I made reservations for 6:30pm, and didn't get seated until 7:40pm. Salad was great, but our steak dinner was mediocre. I ordered my steak medium and it was so tuff! We also ordered drinks, my drink being a spiked Shirley Temple. Wow! It was so pale. It tasted like water and vodka. Barley any grenadine. So disappointed 😞. This place did not impress me at all. Will not return.
Okay, this is a personal take. Everyone in my family loves this place. I love the cheese bread and blue cheese salad, which is saying something cause I am not a fan of blue cheese. But when it comes to actual food here, I've never once in 8 years of coming here for my wife, have had a good meal here. The meat is always dry and just not good to me. I'm convinced my wife and family love it cause of Nostalgia. Clearmans, please, buy better meat, and learn how to cook it. Im at the place where all I eat here is the bread and salad and I go get nuggets from chic fi le across the parking lot.
I am a big time fan of Clearman’s Restaurants. There is a regional and emotional connection for me growing up in so cal. So it pains me a little to write this review based on our experience. Maria was our server and she was off the scale in friendliness, helpfulness, and funny. Our drinks whe to our table right away our order went in and it came out relatively quickly. So why the disheartening. The classic purple salad was a little too tangy. I am sure it was fresh, but something just seemed a little off. The rib eye was a bit over medium rare. But also was a bit on the tougher side. The baked potato comes with a honey butter and I failed to ask is sour cream and chives was an option. Wifey had a sand which and fries and that was good, and our daughter had the scallop dinner which she said was good, but she felt the baked potato and butter was a bit too rich. Overall it was a mid road experience, but we do expect a higher end result from a Clearman’s venue.
Interesting concept with fake looking snow on the roof and rustic, mountain feel interior. Bartender was great. Food not so good. I had the grilled chicken with their complimentary sides. The cheese bread was almost burnt. The red cabbage was not my thing. This is a personal preference not anything against Clearman's. And the grilled chicken was very average. I didn't feel like a steak that day, but if go again, I will give it try to see if this specialty is any better. Check them out and decide for yourself.
Never heard of a restaurant that takes reservations but seats walk inns first. Happened last night. We had 7pm reservations and didn't get seated until 8:30. When we asked the host his reply was …
I was in LA on a business trip, and the people I was with recommended this place. It appears to be a popular steakhouse, but I am not exactly sure why. I think you could get a better steak at the Sizzler. My steak SUCKED!!! It was tough and had ZERO flavor. I truly believe that it is sacrilegious to put a sauce on a good steak. Needless to say, this steak needed sauce. And the steak was very tough. About the only thing right was the fact that it was cooked accurately. And it was not just my meal that was mediocre. All 3 of us made the same comments. Not to mention, our waiter did not get our drink order correct.
December 3rd had a party of 20 medium.Well, steak was raw, baked, potato, hard and cold.Look like just cheese with on the loaded baked potato. No sour cream , no chives on a loaded baked potato.I was so disappointed our bill was over $800.I will never go back there again. Service was Not good waiter was overwhelmed not enough help could not get refills on soda coffee . So very disappointed.
My wife and I have been driving by Clearman’s for years and finally decided to make a date night out of it. The exterior has a cozy charm, and the interior is decorated with a “cabin in the woods” theme. The lighting, however, felt dim in a way that wasn’t romantic, more fitting for grabbing a drink with a buddy than for a dinner date. The staff was friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. The starter salad was essentially just lettuce with dressing. I ordered the steak plate and my wife had the cod. Both dishes were very plain, the fish was bland and the steak lacked any memorable flavor... good thing for A1 sauce. The only highlight of the meal was the cheese toast, which was buttery, cheesy, and delicious. Sadly, the overall experience was disappointing, and I even ended up with a stomach ache afterward (maybe it was the cabbage). For the price and anticipation, it just didn’t live up to expectations.
Worst experience ever. Used to come here all the time with family but the last time we went we had horrible service. Our waiter didn’t visit us our whole meal until everyone was done so no one was able to get refills on drinks or anything extra. The food was great as always so we left a 15% tip not 20% due to our waiter being rude and non existent. When we were leaving he came back and said we couldn’t leave till we gave him more for his tip. he literally would not let us leave and made us give him more cash. that was just ridiculous.
Went to Clearman's North Wood Inn in La Mirada for Father’s Day’s. The food was so plain and tasteless that I had to double-check to make sure I wasn't eating cardboard. Next time, I'm just going to head on over to Sizzler for some real excitement! The only highlight of my meal was the salad, but even that was ruined by drowning it in too much dressing. On the bright side, the portions were so large that I had leftovers for days. The cozy warm funky atmosphere was the only thing that kept me from falling asleep at the table. And if you're looking for a unique dining experience, you can break open the peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. It's like a party for your feet! The cheese bread was the only thing that brought a smile to my face. It was so good that I almost forgot about the disappointment that was my main course. And don't even get me started on the beer. It was better than my steak! The cabin-style theme and fake snow on the roof were a nice touch, but it couldn't make up for the fact that the steaks were way too pricey. Despite all of this, the service was always superb, even if I did have to wait 20 minutes for a table, or was it 30 minutes? Either way, it was worth it to experience the thrill of Clearman's North Wood Inn.
Such a disappointment! We had a party of 9 on a Tuesday night. There were quite a few empty tables around us, yet our service was not very good. Drinks and food were both slow getting to the table. We had to ask multiple times for refills. The salad and bread were the best part of the meal. The sandwiches had flavorless fatty meat. The fish was dry, and the rice pilaf wasn't very good either. My dogs had a lot of expensive leftovers that night.
Where do I begin with this one. We went for dinner for a birthday, I haven't been back in exactly four years and I was very well reminded why, from the waiter that wasn't attentive and rather bothered with being there or being asked of, he literally ordered what he liked. Starting with the cheese sticks, I changed my mind at order not After, he still put them in. Wich let's speak of the quality of those. Obviously frozen but for almost 20 dollars you would think they weren't frozen. And sitting on the scraphs of the house salad.. you get a hand full believe was five... An order I didn't make it a big deal , being the kids weren't served yet and we all were waiting, when the food comes out immediately we all noticed, we had This Parboiled Rice on our plates.. I sent mine back because I asked for steak fries, which room temperature would of been warm, no kdy asked for the rice, he was bothered by my request. They didn't bother and tried getting that rice down.. the prime rib was nothing to be desired and an embarrassment to what used to be such an establishment, from the burger to the sandwiches. I won't address the side salad which it's just unlawful, as are the prices for the lack of quality being served..
We got sat in the back corner and didn't even get any water for 10-15 minutes until I walked back up to the front asking for some kind of help. Finally ordered a 9oz steak and the combo platter (steak, seafood, and chicken). The initial salads and bread were pretty good together. The steak (according to my father) was fine but a bit dry. He enjoyed eating the baked potato more. I was rather disappointed by the combo platter since you'd think you'd get more than 2 small scallops but I guess that's on me for not asking. The steak was also a bit dry but tasted fine. The fried chicken was completely dry and I ended up having to take it home because I couldn't see myself finishing it. I also found the baked potato to be the star of the plate. Overall, a rather poor experience after having to pay 100 dollars. The restaurant itself looked nice and had a nice atmosphere. However, felt that the current prices and service is simply just not worth the price.

The servers and management cannot tell you where there shell fish is from.they cannot tell or won't weather it is farmed or not. The rudest restaurant I've had the misfortune to visit.
The fish was fried overcooked and heavily breaded. The salads were awful over Drenched with dressing and should have vegetables instead of rice as a side. Why rice with a potato? Cost $50 plus. I used to love this restaurant. So disappointed. And too noisy.
I have NEVER had to post such a NEGATIVE review about a restaurant. Especially, Northwoods. My family and I have been coming to Northwoods for several years and have always encountered great service. Except for today. 1. We ordered open face sandwiches, prime rib dip and pastrami. 2. The waitress did not bring a basket of bread which is normally included with every meal. 3. We asked our waitress about the bread and she told us it isn't included. That has never happened to us. Everyone else was getting bread baskets except for us. Hmmmm. I don't see it listed on their menu as an appetizer. 4. Our lunch portion salads were served but they did not bring out the cabbage. 5. I asked to speak with a Manager. Her name is Stacy. 6. Stacy informed me that the basket of bread is never included with a lunch meal. I let her know that we always get bread. She said there was an additional charge. She also said that it comes with our meals except with the sandwiches that were orderd. 7. I also asked about the cabbage for our salads. The salads were served prior to receiving our main meal. No cabbage was brought out. The Manager, Stacy said that we had to wait for lur cabbage that came with our plates. How does that make sense? I told her that it doesn't make sense to have to wait for our meal in order to get cabbage for our salad. Also, not every dish includes cabbage. The Manager REFUSED to give us cabbage for our salads. Again, doesn't make any sense. So the people who orederd sandwiches don't get cabbage. Ridiculous! Apparently, you need to upgrade your meal on order to get bread and cabbage fir your salad. The upgrade was not offered. Staff should inform the customers of the new bread and cabbage policy since this is not the norm for Northwoods. For several years they have ALWAYS included bread and cabbage for their salad. Crossing Northwoods off of places to go.
I had one of their Prime Rib dip sandwiches. When we got our food, I asked if there were mushrooms in the sandwich as I am allergic to mushrooms. The bartender said no, no mushrooms. What she failed to say was that the rice pilaf that came with the sandwich is made with mushrooms. A little while later, I started to not feel well and my friend asked her about the rice pilaf and she admitted that there were little bits of mushrooms in the rice. My friend says, but we asked. Her response was, you asked when the sandwich arrived. My friend says but there were mushrooms in the rice and she says, oh, I'm sorry. I guess that I'm sorry fixed everything and the fact that I had to call out sick of work today because how I felt and what's going on with my body. Thanks for nothing. Oh and the people next to us were complaining about their sandwich being dry. My friend says in the past, his sandwich was dry as well. Do better!!
I asked the server for a refill three times. The first-time she took care of my family and walk away. I was seated at the front of the table sitting six inches from the server. My brother told me she missed you three times. I replied I know, she is ignoring me she brought me a refill right before desert. I ate my meal without a second beverage. The dish I came with rice pilaf (very dry). This was the worst service I have ever had. I will never return to this restaurant.
Our anniversary dinner reservation was canceled which was made well in advance. I was initially hung up on, then told they had tried to reach me because they were closing early—which wasn’t true, as my voicemail was not full. No explanation was provided for the early closure at 3:30pm. My partner and I are long-distance, and he’s only in town for the night. We had been very much looking forward to dining here and planned this dinner specifically to celebrate our anniversary. The staff showed little empathy and offered only a brief apology for the “inconvenience,” with no attempt to make it right. This was far more than a minor inconvenience, and while we will find another place to celebrate, the experience was extremely disappointing.
We have been going to Northwoods for years for my birthday. This was our first time at this Northwoods and will be our last!! Food was absolutely terrible, Steak was very tough, baked potatoes very cold and & not cooked completely, salad dressing was watered down and beer was flat. We where very rushed to order. Absolutely the worst!
Unfortunately, this restaurant has really gone downhill. What was once one of my favorite spots is now a place I won’t be returning to. The experience started off poorly when our server forgot to put in our appetizer and rarely refilled our water. The biggest disappointment, however, was the food...it was genuinely terrible. When the server asked if I wanted a box, I could barely hide my frustration, having only taken three bites of my meal. She took my husband’s plate but left mine, completely ignoring the obvious issue and never asking if something was wrong. To make matters worse, we were charged over $100 for someone else’s bill. Thankfully, we caught the mistake and had it reversed, but the damage was already done. Overall, a very disappointing experience and definitely not somewhere we will be visiting again.
