I came here with a friend during the weekend and it was a great experience. It was fairly busy but the food, service, and cleanliness were great. I really appreciated their self serve side bar and highly recommend the beef plates. I'll definitely be coming back if I'm in the area.
Stopped here while travelling in California! Food was delicious, portions were huge and the banchan itself is 5 stars!! Service was fast, and the woman working the register was very friendly! I got the Jjambbong, and my boyfriend got the bibimbap. Amazing food, and will be coming here again next time I am in the area!
I love visiting restaurants where every dish tells the story of its culture authentic, flavorful, and absolutely delicious
Updated 2/6/25 Overall the food is very good and self service banchan bar is awesome. Items not always being available and some not being as incredible as I remember is te only thing keeping me from returning to 5 stars. Kalbi was a bit of a let down again as well, but other dishes were all very good, line the tofu soup and jajiangmien. Updated 9/28/23 Definitely still recommending this place but had to round down based on my latest visit. Two dishes that didn’t live up to my last visit were the cold noodles and Kalbi ribs. The cold noodles had a different flavor and texture to the broth. Good, just not as good as I recall. Not a deal breaker. The Kalbi ribs were even more disappointing. Fatty and chewy. On the positive side, the two new dishes we tried were awesome. Jjajang mien, which was sold out las time was amazing. Great flavors, actually had meat which some places stopped adding, and was a very large serving. No wonder they sell out! Also tried the soon tofu soup which was equally amazing in flavors, meat ratio and portion size. Definitely must tries. Service and self service banchan was still great. Almost makes up for the self service pick up and clean up :) —————- Probably more 4.5 stars, but will round up until I can try them again and see how consistent they are. The good: Service is very friendly and helpful Self serve banchan bar - love that you don’t have to wait, but it is hard not to fill up too much as they were all very good. Food food food! Cold noodles - some great flavors and huge servings Galbi jim - again, great broth and lots of lean meat Kalbi - add as a combo and save some money. Delicious and much less fatty than many other places nearby Purple rice!!! Plenty of parking! No language barrier - spoke perfect Korean and English. Some Spanish too from what I heard. Needs improvement: They ran out of the dish I went there for, which is the Jajangmyun, so that’s a bummer. Will try again. Parts of the self serve concept. Utensil box was empty at our table and they do expect that you take your dirty dishes back to the front. The place isn’t expensive, but not cheap either. I always get confused with how much to tip in places like this. Still tipped 18%, but not going over that for self serve like i would at full service places. Not a deal breaker, but food for thought.
Not bad Bibimbap Tuesday special. All you can refill Banchan. Got special at weekday.
My boyfriend and I came here in August 2021. It was our first time coming here and we have been talking about coming back here soon. Everything was so delicious. I love the variety options of all-you-can eat banchan (side dishes, not pictured). I personally love the fish cakes(from banchan) and I had to exercise some self-control to not get too much of banchan since I wanted to try the dishes. The soup and cold noodles were my favorite. They were both refreshing and balanced out the spices and meats from rice cakes and budae jjigae.
Delicious Authentic Korean Food… loved the free flowing salad & kimchi bar. This Restaurant was a really good choice for us while we were visiting for the Long Beach Convention Center over the weekend.
This Korean restaurant has potential to improve. The food is just okay, but with some improvements, it could be better. The prices are reasonable, and the self-service section is clean and easy to use without any issues.
I found this place because I was working in the area and looking for good Korean food. I was NOT disappointed! I tried their bibim naengmyeong, super flavorful! I didn’t have to add extra vinegar or mustard. Some places the cold broth is bland or flavorless but not here. They have a self serve banchan bar, highly recommend the fish cakes. Coming from Riverside County, my trip was well worth It.
My friend introduced me to this place, food was very delicious. All u can eat side dishes with Gamjatang which is a pork neck soup n bulgobi. Each one was very tasty, worth the self service we had to do. I am certainly going back.

What a great hidden gem. Delicious tasting Korean BBQ. Usually the side dishes are secondary to the meat but here the side dishes are wonderfully fresh and tasty. The staff is attentive and the owner was really friendly going so far as to share her cucumber recipenwith me. Also, I doubt you will find a better priced Korean BBQ anywhere in Southern California.

hands down the best naengmyeon (cold noodles) I've had. I prefer to add a lot of vinegar and a touch of mustard inside which they have on the table. You order and pay at the front and sit anywhere you like. They also offer unlimited banchan (side dishes) that you get yourself. Usually have potato salad, kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cake strips, pickled cucumbers, tanmuji (yellow pickled radish). The tteok-galbi is also very good if available as they do sell out later in the day. Their gamjatang isn't very good (even though it's part of their name lol). I wouldn't recommend ordering it - overall flavor wasn't that good, the meat had freezer burn and the portion was pretty small. I'll always come back for the cold noodle though!!
There’s a weekday lunch special for 12.99 with different item each day. Today was beef soup with clear noodles. Rice was just how I like it, firm and not soggy or mushy. Self service banchan/side dishes and water station. You also pick up your food when the food is ready and they’ll call your number. Felt like a station at a food court inside a mall, which is fine, especially if it keeps prices reasonable.
If you haven’t had Somunnan’s Army Stew yet, you’re missing out—it’s cozy, spicy, and so satisfying. Honestly, everything here is tasty. This place is one of my go-to Korean comfort food spots in Cerritos! #KoreanFood #ArmyStew #BudaeJjigae #Foodie #CerritosEats #ComfortFood #KoreanCuisine #FoodLover #EatLocal #Yum
I was craving some late night Korean food and I was glad that Somunnan was open until 10:00pm. I was expecting table service but the restaurant is self-service. Walk up to the cashier to order your food and they'll call your ticket number when the food is ready. Meanwhile, they have a self-service appetizer bar which I thought was a nice touch. They only have a few selection like kimchi, fish pancake, bean sprouts, chopped lettuce, and pickles. The kimchi was perfect for me, not too spicy nor too salty. The fish pancake was a little under seasoned and could have used some salt. I ordered Dolsot Bibimpab and it was okay. I like how the clay pot was extremely hot which made the rice crispy on the bottom. It was under seasoned and I had to put a lot of gochujang for taste. I wish there was more meat in it though. I'll definitely go back there again to try their other items. I give Somunnan 3.5 stars. Suggestion: Get rid of the styrofoam bowls/saucers and plastic utensils. It makes the feel of the restaurant more like a cafeteria than a restaurant.
Somunnan Korean Restaurant was ok. The soup was ok. I should have asked for additional seasoning as it was too bland for my taste. The AYCE banchan was pretty good.
We had a choice between this restaurant and another just down the street.... flipped a coing and here we are. Was not disappointed! As for spicy food, im not much of a fan when it comes to spicy food... but i did enjoy the taste. Lets just say that one of the big pluses here was the all you can eat side dishes (banchan). Budae Jjigae is what i ordered.... and it had a good mix of flavors. Spam, sausage, fish, cakes, soft tofu and spicy kick! Everything that came with a spicy meal was met. Along with sweating and runny nose! Yes, a good choice and will try others on the menu next time. The wifey had the Galbi Tang.... being filipino, i would say the closest description of the taste would be like Nilaga! The taste for non filipinos would be like a beefy broth with glass noodles. The beef was really tender and this is the soup for rainy days (not like today at 92°). The Banchan was good for extra sides. Love the potato salad and the macaroni salad! I recommend you try this place...
Best Korean Cold noodle in town!!! The setup of this restaurant is almost like a food court environment but in an actual restaurant. Which I thought was weird but it works. All the utensils and napkins are on the table so not waiting on someone to bring you what you need. Order first at the front counter then find a table. Wait for your number to be called to get your food. Definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

Somunnan Restaurant is a self serve restaurant where you order up front and get the banchan (side dishes) on your own. Fairly easy to order and everything...but the quality of the food is not amazing. The broth of the gamjatang that I ordered seemed a bit watered down compared to other gamjatang. not as intense of flavor. the soondae is mediocore and comes with just salt (no shrimp seasoning on the side). the nangmyun was alright..tasted refreshing.
Although the food was ok, the cashier/server was kind of rude. I asked for some to go box, and she said "Not right now" even when there was nobody in line. It was our first time there and didn't know we had to return our tray to the front when we were done. The table next to us left their trays on the table but the lady chased us outside telling us to put our trays back. My experience would have been good if it wasn't for that lady. She needs to learn how to talk to the customers in a nice way.
Ordered a gam ja tang and after the first scoop, I found a strand of long hair on the meat. I called the guy at the check out counter and he was not genuinely apologetic. The dish was replaced eventually but the customer service was not there. Before I left, I asked him for some small containers to take the side dishes home that were already on my table, he was giving me the displeased look. Will definitely not go back to this place and urge others to do the same.
The cashier lady is rude. If she's someone that was hired, I'm not sure why not hire someone more better at customer service and keep the rude lady in the back or not working there at all I wish there were potatoes in gamjatang because that seems like a main part of it when you have the dish in Korea
