Kabuki Japanese Restaurant is a local favorite known for its fresh sushi, friendly staff, and pleasant atmosphere. Many reviewers highlight the yellowtail roll, Baja California roll, and bento boxes. Some find it slightly overpriced, and a few had issues with freshness.
Tip: Ask the staff for recommendations, as they are knowledgeable about the menu. Also, check out the happy hour deals.
Nicely laid out venue with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered bento boxes and were nicely surprised. Plentiful serving, nicely presented, and high quality food. I modified mine to have sashimi instead of the tempura and was pleasantly surprised that was not a problem. Very big servings we ended up with left overs of the salmon and short ribs. Salad was fresh and and a nice blend of flavors, dressing was bright and tasty. Sushi and sashimi was generous and very fresh. Excellent meal worth the price. Highly recommended.
This sushi spot truly exceeded expectations. The poke salad was a refreshing start—vibrant, well-balanced, and packed with flavor. The yellowtail kama was grilled to perfection, with crispy skin and tender, juicy meat that melted in the mouth. One of the surprising standouts was the bacon-wrapped asparagus—a savory bite with just the right smoky crunch. And the Ladera Special? A beautifully composed dish that showcased the chef’s creativity and attention to detail. Every plate felt thoughtfully prepared, and the quality of the ingredients really shined. Whether you're a sushi purist or just looking for something delicious and memorable, this place delivers. Highly recommend!
Choya Japanese Cuisine is a fantastic restaurant for sushi lovers. Their wide variety of signature rolls is a feast for the eyes and taste buds. Packed with delicious fish, the rolls are a delightful combination of flavors. The sashimi is also exceptional, and don't miss the opportunity to try their flavorful hot rolls. Choya Japanese Cuisine guarantees a remarkable dining experience that showcases the artistry and flavors of Japanese cuisine.
Sushi chefs here are the best and so nice! The rolls were amazing and priced between about $15 to $22. Had a very nice Merlot. Yellowtail roll I had with tuna inside and Jalapeño on top was my favorite. Also enjoyed the garlic edamame. Easy 5 star sushi restaurant and some of the best sushi in Orange County that I’ve tried but with a small restaurant friendly vibe.
Awesome place with great food and hospitality. 5/5 totally recommend.
I’m super picky about sushi and this place is one I’ll for sure be coming back to! It’s clean, really nice, and more importantly, delicious. I tried the Mother’s Baked Roll and the Baja California roll and I would order both again. The Mothers Baked Roll is full of flavor, and the Baja Ca roll is fresh! We also tried the Garlic edamame which was cooked perfectly. I’m not a fan of soggy edamame, so this restaurant cooked it to perfection. The garlic crunches made it even better! We also ordered a glass of wine and they’re not stingy with their pours, which made us very happy. We will be coming back :)
Very good food, attentive and polite staff. Great atmosphere, but seems a bit unappreciated.
The staff here is amazing, they are compassionate and lively. Giving the place a comfortable and enjoyable ambience. Whether you're having lunch with your kids or a nice dinner with your friends and peers. I highly recommend Choya and their onion salmon!
This is my favorite Japanese noodle bar/ sushi house in all of Ladera Ranch! The staff is extremely friendly and knows the menu inside and out, which is great when asking for recommendations on what to go with. I’ve never once had a bad meal here and it’s relatively affordable too which only sweetens the deal.
Not only was the service AMAZING but the miso soup was so worth it. I got the bento box and I can confidently say that I will be going back. Everything was very good, well priced, and made in a timely manner. Instagram: Audrey.Pulliam (for more denver content or review requests)
They were so friendly! Not being super familiar with Japanese cuisine, our server was happy to explain different dishes to us. You HAVE to try Toro!
We ordered Eri roll, crunch roll, baja California roll, and lobster roll. As usual the food was excellent. You can’t go wrong with this place.
Food and service were excellent. I ordered a lunch box and a sushi roll and loved it all.
Good sushi place! Very nice staff and great service! Their fish was fresh and I liked all the nigiri’s we ordered. Their rolls were okay, not the best. Their miso soup was okay, and the deep fried gyoza was good. In general I think it is a good sushi place, slightly over priced compared to the quality of the food, but I think it is the best sushi you can find in this area.

Yummy sushi & poki. Beautiful aesthetic and wonderful service. Happy hour specials are a bargain too!
The food is great and service has always been very friendly. There can be a long wait, but it's worth it in my opinion.
Nice to find another option for lunch. Food was tasty, portions perhaps too big for lunch. The ambience is open and airy yet inviting.
Great, fresh sushi, bento boxes and if you visit often enough special saki made the owner!
Wonderful place. The staff there are so nice and very helpful. Fast service with great food!!!!
I love their sushi. Favorite roll is the Cowboy. 100% recommend.
My favorite local sushi spot. Friendly staff and quality food!
First time here, close to home, good food and good folks. Tasted great.
high quality sushi and awesome staffs. can't ask for more.
Excellent service, great food. We had a great time
Food makes up for the dull service. Suggestion....get some personalities on staff.
My wife's only sushi place in OC. Quality 5+++

Good food great service!!!
Great food and atmosphere
Amazing maki and very good service
Excellent food and value.
This is my new go to spot for Sushi.
Perfect Japanese food. Recommended!
I had heard from family that it was good. I’m pretty picky about my sushi after a lot of bad experiences with it, but this place was really good! Super fresh. Great portion sizes. Good service. Sometimes sushi places only have good special rolls and the other regular rolls are meh, but this place is good all around. Definitely recommend it.
Great local sushi restaurant. The owner gets to know the customers if you dine in. If you don’t have time to eat in the restaurant they have take-out via telephone or online order through their website. Everything we’ve ever ordered (dine-in or take-out) has been great.
5 stars for everything! The service was incredibly fast, compared to other restaurants I have been to. Their popcorn lobster… it is just amazing. Exquisite. Delicious… I had a personal experience, as I hadn’t had this kind of popcorn lobster since I was 8 years old… Anyways, their sushi and miso soup were amazing. Great service, great food, would recommend. I was not paid to write this (even how much it looks like it), I just loved this place
One of our fav places for sushi with friends. Clean, warm and inviting atmosphere offering a wide selection of delicious sushi items to chose from at reasonable prices. Service is always quick. Happy hour is our favorite!
I’ve eaten here a couple of times and their hand rolls are huge. They have great deals on happy hour and the staff is really nice.
Hello. Blake here. I've been here only a few times, but this place is my favorite restaurant in ALL of Ladera. Food is amazing, the service is amazing with nice staff. Overall, just a amazing place and you should definitely go here if close enough! Its to die for!
Excellent service and lunch specials. Highly recommend
The sushi is by far the best in the area. Very warm and friendly staff. Owners are great people!! We come here at least once a week. Great happy hour specials daily. Don't miss Hand Roll Tuesdays for $2.50!!
This a winner among restaurants in Ladera Ranch with a full, varied, Japanese menu, elegant presentations and unparalled service. Highly recommended! The Sushi bar is a fantastic place to meet and greet old friends after work each day and a full service dining room experience is present as well.
Love this place! The owners are so nice and care so much. The sushi has only gone up in quality over the years! Keep up the good work guys
Good location and beautiful restaurant. The team works so hard to make sure everyone is taken care of at all times. I've never had to wait for a table. Menu is strong. Lots of great items.
After trying another sushi restaurant in Ladera I wasn’t impressed with I was hesitant to try this place. I’m so glad I took the chance to give it a try because it’s a great place to eat at with delicious food, nice atmosphere as well as helpful and friendly staff. We come here to Choya a lot to eat and always leave happy and satisfied with our experience.
My husband and I are big fan of their sushi rolls and short rib bento box. The sashimi is always fresh and delicious, as well as other special appetizer and meals. We feel that you'll never be disappointed here, and the price is quite fair, too.
Literally the best sushi house ever. I have been all over the world eating fish and this is the joint. Get to know the owner because he loves his guests and connects like family!
This place was surprisingly good. The lunch special is very affordable and full of delicious choices. Very filling and great value. A hidden gem in Ladera Ranch. Must visit if hungry and in the area!
Our family loves making a trip to Choya regularly. Their fresh fish, incredible service, and attention to detail make the experience a 5 star!
We've been going to Choya since they opened. Everyone there makes you feel like family. The food is delicious and should be a must eat restaurant for anyone in the area!
I’ve never been to a Japanese restaurant where they were so friendly and smiling. Very thankful to have us there. Sushi was great!
Good sushi place! Very nice staff and great service! Their fish was fresh and I liked all the nigiri’s we ordered. Their rolls were okay, not the best. Friendly kind amazing sushi. Erik is probably the best sushi chef next to the owner Key family atmosphere is also amazing. Love to come here with just the wife on a date night or with the whole family three teenage kids.
Fantastic sushi, great atmosphere, and amazing staff. Everyone is so helpful and friendly — perfect spot for families. We love coming here and highly recommend it!
highly recommend their yellowtail roll! The fish was very good, really fresh and flavorful.

A little bit more expensive, but the rolls were very good. Definitely go again especially for rolls. Garlic edamame is excellent.
Great place for custom made sushi, so delicious! They serve a dark beer I can't find anywhere, so that is a great!a favorite restaurant of mine.
Has a great variety of sushi, not as fulfilling as I would have liked for the prices they charged.
Ordered chicken teriyaki, rice and tempura. It was all good. I would ask for less tempura and vegetables instead. Too much deep fried. I would go again.
Joshua was a fantastic server. Had a table-full of great happy hour apps & drinks.
I had the lunch special where you picked 3 options from the list. The fish quality was good and the service pretty good.
Nice choice, good food and good prices, friendly, clean, and convenient.
Great place the owner makes you feel like family great food
Good sushi but tends to be a bit pricey. There are 2 other sushi places within 3miles that have better fresher sushi for lower prices. If you want an upscale atmosphere for a date night with great service this is your place. If you want great sushi for a good price and don't care if it takes a bit longer go elsewhere.
Very good Japanese food and service. I definitely recommend it and would go back if we lived closer. They have very good lunch specials, too! It was a nice surprise.
Great Japanese food, especially for an area like Ladera Ranch that has some bland options. I had some awesome sushi and their plates are awesome also. It was a little tight inisde, but great experience overall.
Very good food, service, and atmosphere. We like another place better because of price. The other one has an early special for half off a second order or item.
Big selection but I didn’t like the sushi taste. I ordered chirashi sushi didn’t like the fish they gave: egg, shrimp, squid, salmon and tuna. Latter two were the best.

decent sushi in the area. their happy hours are decent, especially on tuesdays
Came here for the first time, the service was good but the food not so much. The appetizers were not bad but the sushi and rolls were not fresh. There was even a piece of plastic/shrink wrap in the roll we ordered which was gross. We will probably not come here again.

I've reviewed this place before and it was average at best then, now it's even worse. The service is mediocre as most of the people who work there don't speak English. However, at night the hire teenagers that likely don't understand what management is saying and also don't want to be working. The food is even worse. The sushi tastes cheap and old. I wouldn't be surprised if they buy it directly from stater Brothers across the parking lot. We ordered 3 rolls tonight and all were warm. Sushi should be cold and taste fresh. Plus there was way too thick of rice. Save your money and either go someplace else or just go directly and buy from stater Brothers.

西化的日本餐馆,已经没有日料的味道了,不好吃
Gave them a $100 bill but said that we only gave a $20 bill. Never again
sent back salmon cook got very mad came out and started yelling at me over cooked burnt on the bottom
So I used to love this place. When I went the last few times I asked for sriracha I was told they were out. Only to watch them deliver a roll with sriracha for someone else. I didn’t want to confront them but my other two girlfriends there did and they ended up bringing me some on the side. Went there a second time forgetting the big ordeal about it and they told me I can’t have it on the side bc it’s expensive. The third time I went I brought my own damn bottle. Bottom line I’m over feeling like having a little sriracha on the side. Sushi is ok!
I love going to restaurants and as a previous restaurant owner I know what it takes to run a restaurant and how much customer service matters and I’m always gracious to wait staff as i know how hard they work. I have been coming to this restaurant since it’s inception regularly and to be fair food is good. This review is about customer service. My daughter and I came in for dinner and we were ready to order and it is fair to say I had never met this server before. We proceeded to place our order and my daughter ordered from the kids menu. The server noted that since she was older she could not do that. I agreed and looked at the dinner menu to order the same thing for her in the regular dinner portion but couldn’t find the same item. I asked several times and the waiter kept pointing me to items other than a simple beef teriyaki. I then asked if I could get the kids menu item but I am willing to pay the full size dinner portion price. To my surprise he refused. I was shocked. Then he started saying how things are expensive and going on and on and by this time I’m frustrated because I just wanted a simple rice and beef teriyaki and instead of $13, I was willing to pay $25 so we could have a nice dinner and I was happy to help out a local restaurant, pay more and he was refusing. At this point I just ordered other things off the menu and thought this so called conversation was over. Oh no! He comes back again telling me that he prefers not to serve me and asking me to leave for offering to pay more for a dish. They just lost a long term customer and gained a bad review for its poor customer service. Plenty of great sushi restaurant around who would be happy to sell $13 dish for $25.
Horrible! When you go into a sushi restaurant and you see no Asians that should be a warning. The service was incredibly slow and the sushi was not very good. On top of all of this it's more expensive then restaurants in Japan.. I can't believe anyone would go there twice.
