Opinions de Miki Sushi & Sake Laguna Beach
To the most righteous people who decided to resurrect this Laguna Beach treasure that we missed (so much) we say BRAVO. Not only have you and the team of amazing kitchen / wait staff brought Miki's cherished recipes back for all to enjoy, but you paid homage to a total character of a human with style and grace. My favorite Miki story in 20 years of eating there: I brought a chef in for dinner, he was quite impressed. He was a bit of a loud character, something Miki did not like (it was all in her glance). At one point he asked her 'Where do you get your fish from??' She paused... then cooly looked up and said 'the ocean'. No soy sauce neon in the bathroom....classic.
This is literally my favorite restaurant. It has ruined all other sushi places for me. Miki, the chef, is a creative genius. She makes her own sauces for every dish. You will find dishes here that you would never find anywhere else. Here are our go-to faves: Fire of Mountain Tomato Balloon Volcano Sizzle Sexy Handroll Give You Energy Laguna Canyon Roll
How refreshing it is to experience a female-led sushi restaurant, which are traditionally male environments. Simply put, there’s an intimacy, artistry, and sense of play to Miki Sushi that’s kept me coming here for nearly 20 years, mostly on birthdays or dates when I was trying to impress someone. I’m so delighted that the folks here are continuing Miki’s legacy and also bringing their own energy to this jewel in Laguna. Oh, and the scallop uni nigiri transported me somewhere else! Out of this world.
An incredible establishment that manages to continue to pay homage to its namesake. Amazing service, fresh fish, top notch creativity on presentation, and consistency (years between visits) - everything you could want from a Japanese restaurant.
Hands down, one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever had the privilege of experiencing! The bonus... It's all female run, AND they understand how to do gluten free.
Just had an amazing dinner at Miki Sushi & Sake! This place is wonderful in so many ways—scrumptious, beautifully presented dishes, wonderful staff (including a rocking group of women sushi chefs!), great selection of sake, and a terrific soundtrack in the background (courtesy of one of the chefs), in a cozy setting. Many loving touches in honor of the restaurants’s founder, Miki Izumisawa. Go there now!!!
Must go! Sushi, sake, and crème brûlée are extraordinary
Fresh sushi! They obviously pride themselves on having amazing foood! Best sushi place we have been to in this area!
My brother pitched this as the best sushi restaurant he knows of. He is on to something with that assessment. Very creative dishes. Delicate balance on flavors. Beautiful presentation. Many gluten free options available, and they were willing to make adjustments. Only one minor issue that was partially on us - we missed that we were billed for one bottle of wine rather than one glass of wine, which they addressed the next day without any resistance.
Sooooooo yummy! A truly interesting menu that actually WORKS for deliciousness! Also, because they don't use soy sauce this is GREAT for gluten free people. And you'd never guess it's missing because the flavors are incredible! It was also very cool to see all female sushi chefs while we were there. It's tiny, but has a very cool vibe and pretty much ruined sushi for me anywhere else lol.
New management has done a perfect job honoring Miki. Same amazing, creative menu; many of the same wonderful staff; but a few welcome changes. Particularly, a better seating layout than before, and the ability to make reservations, which I appreciate considering this place’s popularity. For specific food items: the canyon de chelly, purple hill, and orange lily are even better than I remembered. Fresh ingredients, and flavors you won’t find anywhere else. 242 was my favorite restaurant in OC, and after the reopening as Miki’s, it maintains that position. Can’t be beat.
Hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had. My favourite restaurant in California. Great location, wonderful service and delicious sushi! If there are certain flavours you enjoy, they make sushi to fit your preference. Also well-priced.
I have given many 5-star reviews to sushi places I really like; I would like to give 6 to this one. If you like sushi, go, go now. Make a reservation. Do yourself a favor. The style is not traditional, but all recipes have some twist. It's not really California fusion sushi, the style is much more subtle, and it makes the place unique among the many sushi restaurants we have been to. The restaurant is tiny, only a few tables and bar seats for walk-ins. Not the best place for a business dinner or more formal occasion, but you could bring a date here - one that loves sushi. The selection of fish is rather small, nothing really exotic. The sushi shine with many clever touches to all dishes, a little sauce here, some extras there. The sashimi with truffle were phenomenal. The nigiri sushi were a delight, every single one was a textural and tasty sensation, and we had seconds of several. The one roll we ordered was wonderful. And the kids loved the chicken teriyaki and the maki with only rice made to order. The service was very friendly and personal, we felt welcome and had a great evening. We will be back and are really looking forward to it.
I absolutely love the atmosphere. Very small but it made it so cozy. The sushi was the best we have had while visiting California. Extremely fresh and light. All around a 10/10 and will be back every time we visit.
My favorite sushi in the world! I am so happy they reopened. The sexy hand rolls, canyon roll and scallop truffle nigiri is not to be missed.
Best sushi in CA!! Great staff!!! Warm and friendly.
Dining at Miki was an awesome experience. I’ve enjoyed sushi all over the world. But the quaint and homey history of Miki matched any of my previous highlights. The fresh ingredients and unique personalized rolls and dishes were just delicious! I highly recommend the Miso soup, Laguna Canyon and Prairie rolls at a minimum. I finished with a killer crème brûlée - perfect 10/10 for food in a great casual environment. I liked the girl power team too! 🙏❤️
Located a little hill, so we enjoyed both the beach and sunset on the distance sit on a roadside table. The food is mostly fusion Japanese cuisine, not authentic, but it’s really good on itself. The peculiar things is that a bottle of Sake was reasonably price, but the price of draft beer was rather expensive. All the staff were kind and friendly, I’m willing to visit again if I come back this beach.
Wonderful creations with high quality fish and freshest ingredients. Definitely try the whole hole. A local hot spot. Extensive wine (for sushi restaurant) and sake menu. You won't be disappointed. Small place, not for big groups. Recommend reservations.
Honestly the best/most fresh fish/sushi I’ve ever had!!! Friendly staff! Great ambience!
Loved the unique flavors and combinations here!! And super fresh fish. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu. Shishito peppers, scallop beet truffle nigiri, M45, and lava flow were all delicious!
Great sushi and really friendly staff! The sushi has a unique twist to it.
Best sushi!!! Friend recommended Cafe Fusion Sushi. It’s not “traditional” sushi place. Their rolls are super unique and delicious. They really put a lot of though into their sauces and taste pairing. We ordered almost one of everything. My favorite was the Laguna Canyon Roll. So freaking good. Service was great. Our server was super friendly and recommended the creme brûlée for dessert, which was so good. Thank you for delicious food and great service. Highly recommend this spot for a unique sushi experience. Will be back!
What a beautiful reopening! ✨ Chef Miki’s spirit shines through in every detail. Re-experiencing the menu was a delight— the tomato miso soup, Vitamin C salad, Sexy Truffle, and Moon & Sun were all amazing, but the Yuzu Pep Pep and Eel Truffle Nigiri were truly out of this world! Thank you, Chris and the entire team, for honoring Chef Miki’s legacy and making this reopening possible. 🙏
If you are looking for a unique sushi place this is certainly the place to go. The taste of each dish changes as you eat it. We even had ice cream on one of our orders. Who would have thought to put sushi and ice cream together. Definitely make reservations before you go though.
Great creative selection. A twist on sushi for sure! Great service. Very small place so make reservations or go for lunch because it is hard to get in! Parking not available so plan ahead.
Absolutely delectable in every single bite! We loved the atmosphere, the all women crew of chefs, the creativity, and the fun! I will be back when visiting Laguna again! You can not beat the flavor-licious-joy happening in your mouth!
Favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach! Most delicious vegetarian rolls ever! Purple Hill, Lava on Green, Skip Away Creek are fabulous. I dream about this place when I’m hungry. It’s worth the wait! Unique and delicious!
The best Sushi in town. Must try the Hot Spicy Bay and Laguna Canyon. Excellent service, very helpful staff

Had a take out order. The sushi is so fresh and the flavor is great! Tried salad and some cooked rolls and fish. Great experience and convenient location
This place is tiny. But the food was absolutely delicious. Everything is very sassy which we loved. The Wagyu was truly Wagyu and the flavor profiles were divine. Lola was our server and she was wonderful. Highly recommend the sun in the moon sashimi plate.
Wonderful and creative sushi place with female sushi chefs and a strong following from the local community. The flavor profiles very wildly, thus there are many dishes here that I absolutely love, but also many that are one and done for me. I like: Herb Ripples, Laguna Canyon rolls,… Remind me not to again order: Spicy Jewelry, Cherry Blossoms,…
The staff were super friendly and attentive, and gave good recommendations. We had the moss pink sashimi which was a fun flavorful plate of multiple fish. The tuna crispy nigiri is a must have, the flavor evolves throughout the bite. The yellowtail yuzu miso nigiri is also a must have, it was so delicious and flavors I had never had before. The wagyu beef nigiri is great, if you like Wagyu you can’t go wrong with this roll. Other nigiri options that we really liked was the tuna Cajun, the albacore crispy garlic and the albacore chili. The draft asahi paired well with all of these, would definitely come back!

It is a fine establishment, the wait time is a bit long (which is why there is a wait time) seating it comfortably good, I sat outside with a nice view of the beach. I got the California roll and the soft shell roll. The California is basic and okay not the best. The soft shell roll has potential but the seaweed made it too chewy. I recommend this place and am willing to give it another chance im sure the other food is good here too. The staff is friendly yet very busy getting orders out. Thanks again.
Very good sushi in an intimate (small) setting with great service and fun music. Its a very standard nigiri menu with some fun rolls and salads. I loved my shishito peppers and the “Sailing Boat” tuna and toasted rice appetizer. They even made a custom masago nigiri for me which I appreciated. If you’re in Laguna and in need of Sushi, this is a fun place.

If you have had your fill of traditional sushi or if you are feeling adventurous, this is worth a try. Their dishes seem to all have a western or Latino twist. As this was my first experience here, I found dishes surprising and not predictable based simply on the menu descriptions. Service was good in a cozy atmosphere.

Laguna locals and have eaten here many times and the sushi is very good. Specialty sauces are delicious.... Frustrations are the restaurant is tiny and the hours on Google are NOT accurate. We have gone there twice when it says open but they are closed. Today (Sun) being one of those days.

Please don't put salad and salad dressing on my sushi! They even put salad inside of hand rolls. I used to love this place years ago. The chefs are not friendly and they are trying to be to different and cool. I can day the one server they have...And I mean just one! Is lovely. Over priced and not nice.
Best word I can come up with - gross. I hate leaving negative comments, but the food we ordered goes down as the worst take out I can recall. I have two young boys who will eat anything, and they gagged on the chicken teriyaki (pic attached). The sushi, with few exceptions, was inedible. We just threw away most of the food (which was well over $100). I called the restaurant to let them know, and the response was, “sorry you didn’t like it, have a good night.” We are staying across the street at the Inn at Laguna Beach and I’ll let them know to warn others. Bad one.
We visited on a Friday evening without a reservation and were initially told by a staff member that we could be seated at the bar, where seats were available. While the bar was being cleaned for us, another staff member asked if we had a reservation. When a party with a reservation arrived, they were offered the bar seating instead—after initially being told they would need to wait a few more minutes for their table. As a result, we were told we could no longer sit at the bar and would need to wait 15-20 minutes for a table or sit outside. When we pointed out that we had already been told we could sit at the bar, the response was, “I’m the owner,” followed by an explanation that reservation holders needed to be accommodated first. We ultimately stayed only because another guest kindly mentioned they were leaving shortly. I understand that mistakes can happen, and a simple acknowledgment or apology for the inconsistency would have gone a long way. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. While the food was good and the rest of the staff were kind, the front-of-house experience with the owner overshadowed the meal, and I would not return.
