Had a fantastic dinner to celebrate new years eve eve. My partner Zan had the pie - I had the ham hock. We were served by the wonderful Simone who was kind, efficient and helpful. Definitely a lovely place for great pub grub and a comfortable atmosphere.
What a fabulous afternoon, we booked a late lunch at 4pm and everything was still available on the Sunday lunch menu and was perfectly cooked and delicious. Great choice of wines, the cote de Provence appreciated and the Malbec divine! I personally preferred their old cider to the Inches available now which I find a bit sweet but hell, you can’t have everything! Tip top, certainly book ahead as always busy on a Sunday!
Big thank you to the staff at The Gardeners for making a superb Christmas day lunch! Lovely atmosphere, nice 360 bar with a restaurant area where you can peak into the kitchen. The food was just perfect, great quality and quantity. Highly recommend!
We cannot prise more highly the Gardeners for the Christmas lunch we had yesterday. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and the food was exceptional. Thank you Jon, Lyn and the rest of the staff, we had a wonderful time.
A lovely little place with an eclectic clientele and wonderful bar staff - the lady serving us when we were there was fantastic; helpful and very funny. There were a group of early finishing workers on one side and two young ladies with a bay on the other - absolutely no bother. A reasonable amount of space to move around in inside, so a wheelchair might get away with it - depends an where everything is. But plenty of space outside! The Guinness was excellent as was the Timothy Taylor's Landlord.
I’ve been visiting The Gardeners for a few weekends now, and it’s always been such a great experience. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with just the right level of busy—enough to feel lively without being overcrowded. Ellie, a lovely blonde lady who’s served me multiple times, really stands out. She’s always incredibly friendly and attentive, remembering little details and making sure everything is perfect with a genuine smile. It’s rare to find service that feels so personal and warm. The Guinness is consistently spot on too, which is a huge bonus! Unfortunately, I’ve recently moved away, so I won’t be able to drop by this weekend, and I’m really going to miss it. The Gardeners will always be a favourite spot of mine!
Had dinner here with some friends. Nice atmosphere, food was good, great service and a good selection of beers. Also had a chance to speak to the landlord who was a great laugh. Will be returning for sure.
Eaten here on two occasions, had an excellent burger and fish and chips. Excellent chips both times! Lovely staff and reasonable prices.
I had a lovely experience at The Gardeners. The food was incredible, and our waitresses, Sophie and Eloise, were an absolute joy. They were personable and friendly. Overall the atmosphere was delectable. I will be back soon.
We had a lovely birthday meal today. 5 of us all had really lovely food. It wasn't a problem to slightly go off menu to accommodate dietary needs. All our meals were good. My steak was absolutely delicious. Friendly staff.
The food was absolutely delicious. Get the king prawn and crab linguine, better than some Italian restaurants I’ve been to! We did the supper club menu which was an absolute steal. Tracy the owner couldn’t do enough and the kitchen handled my food allergy well. One of the best meals we’ve had out in ages.
Great Sunday lunch today. We had the beef and veggie roasts and both were delicious as were the roasties and Yorkshire puddings. Maybe extra gravy could be provided as standard? The cherry meringue dessert was yummy. Cocktails delicious but soft drink selection was a bit limited for non-drinkers. Will be back!
Brilliant Sunday Roast. Great food (large portions). Short waiting times. Very accommodating of families. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Best food, service, and guinness I have ever had at a pub! Was lively with the game on and yet still perfect for a nice dinner. Hope to find myself back in the area so I can come back.
The Gardeners on Merton Road by Longfield Street. A fine pub offering a good range of keg and cask beverages. A simple layout with an island bar, plenty of seating and a good dining area to the side. There is also a really pleasant, small courtyard garden at the back of the pub. A good fun place for a beer.
I came here to do some work... Joanne and chef looked after me while on site... Very friendly and accommodating... The place was exceptionally cleaned throughout to a very high standard 🙂(photos) Lots of inside and outside seating and eating areas, a large covered smoking area too. Quaint colourful courtyard seating shown in photos. Kitchens and prep area standards are very important to me and Chef was busy preparing food, you could tell he was taking a pride in the food he was preparing... You can clearly see the kitchen through the service hatch and again very bright and very clean. They have a pizza area just off the garden... This sounds great... It was too early for this to be on but it's nice to know it's there. Great decor and an open fire with cosy arm chairs... What more could you want on a cold day Finally a huge selection of wines and spirits All in all a great place to visit for food or drinks. 😋😋
Came for Birthday / Fathers day dinner with my Partner and Son and we were not disappointed. Despite arriving an hour early for our booking Jon went out of his way to accommodate us. Started with the Burata entree which was fantastic then onto the Roast pork and the Black Sticks burger, both of which were outstanding. Finished with the Chocolate Orange Eaton Mess and the Baby Guinness Fudge sundae A++ All the staff were friendly and attentive ensuring a great evening out Thank you for making it a great day
John and Lynn have turned our local into such a lovely place to come and have a meal and/or enjoy a couple of drinks. You’ll always be greeted with a smile and the food is both exceptional and well priced. The roasts on Sunday are particularly good!
What a lovely space has place become. Living locally we have visit The Gardeners many times before. The change in ownership massively effect the way we think about this place and we now visit every week. We can’t recommend their food enough. Having been there for the best Sunday roast and every day burgers you really can’t go wrong. The atmosphere is friendly, the staff is welcoming and it’s dog friendly. Thank you very much for creating such a lovely place xx
Lovely meal on Christmas Eve, really delicious. Service is great, so friendly. The new management have really made a big difference. Highly recommend
I've visited this pub before but not for a few years and was extremely impressed with the current set up. We had a large family gathering on a Sunday and found the staff welcoming, the pub warm and comfortable and the food and drink fantastic. We were initially worried that there may not be much choice for vegegarians and for one of our party who was gluten free. In the end we all had a great time and really enjoyed the excellent food and drink. Staff were helpful with the gluten alergy and once we established that it was only the inclusion of a yorkshire pudding that made the roasts unsuitable, we were able to ask for that to be removed. Whilst vegetarian options were a little limited the significant number of veggies on the table agreed that the options that were there were really deliscious. The cask ale was well kept and I am always please to see Timothy Taylor Landlord available. Whilst not cheap, the prices were reasonalbe and in line with most London pubs. The food was definitely very good, so overally I would say it was very good value for money. In fact we compared the bill to our last year's family get together at The Telegraph nearby and it cost at least 1/3 less and was much better food. The only minor quibble I have personally, is that the mushy peas with the fish and chips were no more than a tiny spoonful. It was hardly even a garnish let alone an accompanyment. I'm sure lots of people leave their mushy peas on the plate but I'm quite partial to them so was sad to see there weren't more. That said the fish and chips were excellent and it cetainly didn't spoil a great meal. We will be back again!
I went for the first time just because the pub is on the road opposite my house. Now, I will go once a week. I liked the bartender girl her behavior. Sometime in the future, I will definitely ask her if we can have a drink together.
This pub has been turned around by the new owners and is now a much more welcoming and comfortable, cosy pub. The best pub in Southfields and our new local. We previously always used to go to the Earl Spencer, which has been completely ruined since also been taken over recently. The selection of drinks is excellent and the food is also good too, though some more/better veggie options would be good. The outside area still lets it down a bit but hopefully that will be improved before the summer.
The Gardeners was a great experience. We were in Southfields for a week and we went on three occasions. Each time the service was excellent and the food delicious. We especially recommend the burgers...... yummmmm. Also good wine and beer. Oh and the puddings..... amazing!
I cannot recommend this pub enough!! Since its renovation last summer it's become our true local. It has a great selection of beers, an awesome atmosphere and really friendly staff. It always has good deals on too, our favourite being the buy one get one free fish and chips on a Friday.
Just popped in for a pint, friendly and efficient service from the team, happy vibes in the pub, one of the cleanest pubs I’ve ever been too, place looked impeccable. Enjoyed my pint and chat. Will make the effort to try the food at some point.
I cannot praise The Gardeners highly enough. This has now become my local. I take my mother here for Sunday lunch every Sunday, we are welcomed and the food is lovely. The chef, Simon is wonderful. The landlady is friendly and the staff delightful. Great pub, great ambiance, great food. Made to feel very welcome.
Really nice place. Owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming. Classic pub food but really well made and very tasty. Beef and ale pie was delicious.
Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch again , with superb service, have to say best roast in the area
Thankyou to all. Lovely pub really friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Will be back. We needed a break from caring for our father who is very unwell, just for an hour and this place really hit the spot. Will be trying the food next time.
Great staff, amazing selection of beers on tap and hands down the best menu I have ever seen and eaten from in a pub, stays true to pub classics but done to the best standard. The parmesan and truffle gnocchi is a must.
Lovely experience everytime. Service is top class, friendly staff & just a good general vibe. Outdoor seating is lovely, especially when the sun is out. Definitely a must visit if you fancy a few drinks & a bite to eat.
Such a cool pub with a warm and homely atmosphere - and the food is super tasty and innovative. Wish I could have tried so many things on the menu!
Great pub great atmosphere, with fantastic food. Highly recommended! Paul & Gill
Overall a great pub, nice and smart and a good atmosphere which can be an elusive thing. Pleasant helpful staff and appeared that the owners were in attendance, keeping an eye on it. Nice food menu but I had a very mediocre smoked salmon open sandwich for £15.50. Firm bread, not much salmon and a little lettuce. I expected better for that price so maybe avoid that item. But other meals were good though.
The Gardeners was quiet today but I was here on a Sunday six months ago when it was much busier and had live music. It is a very tidy pub with helpful and friendly staff and pretty good food - but as a pescatarian I can't speak for the steak. But if you're looking for a warm friendly pub around Southfields the The Gardeners is definitely worth a visit.
Nice pub. Decent food. However the chef has an unhealthy obsession's with a caramelized onions relish. It's sickly sweet. The steak sandwich was like a desert or a jam sandwich. I'd recommend asking for a pot of it on the side instead or it overpowers the rest of the flavors. Same with the burgers. Avoid the crabacado burger. The crab is tiny and not worth the £20. a real shame Don't let that put you off. I'd highly recommend the other lunch sandwiches. Food comes out fast & the staff are lovely. Spotless interiors and boardgames for groups to have fun with. I'll be back soon to sample more of the menu. And if you like sweet onion relish then this is a 5* experience.
We had our wedding reception in this lovely little modern pub, we sat in the restaurant part of the pub which sat 30 guests which had to be social distances. Staff were friendly, adaptable, understanding and fully competent. Drinks were served quickly and at a reasonable price. Massive thank you to Cathy and her team
Had a leisurely Friday afternoon lunch and pints here during the 2018 heatwave and sat outside. Great atmosphere, good menu, I had a burger (adventurous of me) and it was delicious. Over the road is a spectacular Ferrari showroom. Plenty of eye candy for car enthusiasts. Good spot for pints and casual dining, especially in summer!
Nice local pub, decent selection of beers, including a few ales. House white is good. Friendly landlord.
I pop in here often as it is on the way home, it has a cool decor with a mix of refurbished and new. Friendly staff and a decent price for a drink. The kitchen has recently been updated and a new chef has started. They also have some great deals on food and drinks through the week
Nice comfortable pub with good choice of beers and wines. Shame about the food, ok at best. Their £4 ‘green’ salad was just chopped lettuce. A good olive oil and some onion would have been nice instead a greasy liquid poured over it. Also thinking is ok to serve a dish with burnt roasted potatoes shows the carelessness and poor standards of the kitchen staff.
I had the meat pie. Mashed potatoes and vegetables were decent but the pie left a lot to be pleased about. The pastry was rock hard, the filling a disappointment. And over £40 for just the two meals! Definitely not worth the price.
Very pleasant staff and venue, but let down by the food. Came here for a lockdown pint and found the venue welcoming and compliant, with plenty of space between patrons and good hygiene controls. Pints were cold on a nice hot day. Sadly disappointed by the food - cheese burgers with chips. Burger was tasty, but dry. Bun also hard and dry. Chips undercooked and not crispy. Alas. Come here for a pint but I'll be skipping the food from now on.
What a letdown! My friend suggested this pub and wanted to book a table for Christmas. Instead, we ended up eating at home and decided to visit on Boxing Day. Everyone in the pub looked happy, and the vibe was very laid-back. The staff seemed attentive and committed to their work at the bar. I ordered a meal that appeared appetizing, but it was cold, so I asked for a warm one. The staff were very polite and apologetic. When my meal came back, it looked mushy; all they did was take the food off the plate and rearrange it on a new one. Since it seems to be a family-run business, I didn’t want to bring anyone down, so I didn’t take a picture of the mess they served me. I was really hungry because my friend and I had gone for a walk, so I chose to eat the food. My friend waited an hour for her meal, but it never came, so she requested a refund. It's such a shame because I was really hoping the food would be amazing. The halloumi cheese starter was good, especially with the chicken strip, but everything else was bland and just warm.
The one star is for the initial lad that served me. Terrible and expensive for poor quality. The beer was so bad that I left a near full pint and walked out. Having paid £24 for a sharing platter that was meant to be a butchers block of certain items, it came on a plate! £24 for a plate of very few items. I questioned it and noticed that the main items, the pork belly bites were not on the plate, neither was the aioli, I asked for them and they arrived when the bites of other things were gone. Medley of olives? There were about 3 green olives. Such a waste of money, I don't paying when it is good but we left, none of us enjoying the food and certainly not the beer. The head on the pint was like a Mr Whippy, it was half froth, half foul liquid. Thank you for the response, please provide me with an email address to contact you directly as I would like to follow this up and add more information.
There was a very rude woman working there, me and my friend sat down on one of their benches to relax for abit after a exhausting walk, and she charged at us with a very rude manner and told us to go away like we are some animals??? Im sure the food is nice but i wish the people were abit nicer (aka the woman on the photo)
So what can I tell you about this establishment. I walked in at 10:30 is two of my oldest friends who’s I haven’t seen for 5 years. I’m greeted with cold shoulders and zero communication. From the outside it looked like a warm welcoming pub. But no. I walked in and me and my friends are told last drinks have seen served. Now I understand a pin having worked in the industry for 10 years. The staff saw me and my friends walk in and in my opinion saw us and thought no that’s more work and ran us out of the pub with bad attitude and rude answers.
