Opinions de Jora Long Island City
My fav LIC restaurant. I’ve tried everything after multiple visits. My fav appetizer is def skewers that are tender and juice and flavorful. Seafood paella is great too. And all the meat dishes come with great portions and various side dishes. The portions are always huge and they don’t bend over the quality as well as very reasonable price.
What we look for in a great restaurant...friendly and attentive staff...delicious food and great drinks! First time but definitely not the last! I remembered to take pics half way through lol. The presentation was much better than pics 😋 the burrata truffle salad, ceviche, sweet plantains, arroz con mariscos, tres leches yummmmm 😋 and the sangriia 😁🥳
One of the best Peruvian Restaurants I’ve been too. A little pricey especially for the portions but the food was amazing! Ordered a Ceviche which I forgot to add a picture of but it was delicious. Wish they had the plantain chips to go with it but the day I went they had none :( The steak was great according to my friend and my family and I had a great experience at this place, and the dessert was tasty even though the brownie was a bit dark and not as a thick consistency as usual brownies are. The service was great and they seemed up to date with COVID regulations keeping people separated from each other with a plexiglass and wearing masks. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family 10/10. I would love bigger portions though for the price like I mentioned.
Definitely come here! Great for a group to order a whole bunch of delicious items and share family style. My favorites include the grilled octopus, the crispy shrimp causa and the grilled skirt steak. Also loved my frozen llama-rgarita in the adorable llama cup 🦙. All the drinks are huge and beautiful so be sure to try at least one!
Craving some Peruvians food and a little Google maps scout and found this place; guided by the good reviews. It didn’t disappoint. My friend is peruvian and she approved. Even though not the biggest fan of fish. I’d have that ceviche any day. Pisco was tasty (we even got a free shot of it as it was a Peruvian holiday). Would come back and recommend
Like this place! Very classy look, and classy crowd. Prices are a little expensive, but for the quality of service, food, and ambience, it's well worth the money spent. Sometimes especially in the weekends there will be a wait. Not long, but a wait nonetheless. My steak was amazing! I've eaten Peruvian food before, but this place took the cake! I will definitely return again soon! If you're looking for a place to have a romantic candlelit dinner date, this place is for you!
This is easily one of the best Peruvian restaurants in NYC! Every dish is spot on and absolutely delicious. Of course, you can't visit a Peruvian spot without trying the ceviche--it's a must! The jalea, a platter of crispy fried seafood and yuca, is incredible. Be sure to try the octopus, perfectly charred and served with a delicious sauce. The empanadas are also a solid choice. For the mains, I highly recommend the arroz con mariscos--think of it as a Peruvian take on paella, perfectly seasoned, fresh, and absolutely amazing. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!
First 5 star I've ever given, and its to a place not in Manhattan, I came in with zero expectations, even more so; I figured, it would be a "fine" place to dine at...I was wrong, they won my heart over. I can talk about the creamy dishes, pastry-like empanadas, and or the fluffy rice and delicious Yuca fries....and I wouldn't be inaccurate in saying that the chefs have mastered their craft... However, the octopus was the best I've had in my entire life, and this was an appetizer. It honestly should be a main, because it was smokey, tender, and left me devouring the plate in a few minutes. Then there's the drinks, they take your already favorite cocktail and add a sweet and or smokey flair to them...not much I can say beyond that, the entire place delivered a 10 out of 10 in every category, without breaking the bank.
I’ll hands down say that this is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food, drinks, music, and service were all spectacular. I’d highly recommend the frozen pisco sours and ceviche to start things off. From there, you can’t go wrong with really anything for your mains but the salmon was delicious. Can’t believe I didn’t come here sooner but it’s on my list of places that I’d want to come back to often. Come here if you’re reading this, you definitely won’t regret it!
Food was delicious and full of flavor. We had the crab causa to start and the aji amarillo potato puree perfectly complimented the crab. For mains we shared the seco & pepian and aji de gallina, both of which were cooked to perfection. Also really liked the way they presented their dishes with interesting plates and bowls :)
My friends brought me here because they were insisting to have Peruvian food. This was my first time experiencing the Peruvian flavors and I can say that I was very happy with this choice. It is located in LIC and the night was beautiful so we asked to sit outdoors. We ordered the sweet plantains, the ceviche Classico and two main plates of the arroz con pollo. I always like to explore new flavors from all over the world to broaden my palate and get new taste sensations. All plates were full of flavors, not spicy at all and really enjoyable. The service was great from the time we arrived until the time we finished with our dinner. Good job guys!
Jora is a must-visit for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. The food is simply delicious, with the ceviche being a standout dish that is fresh and full of flavor. The grilled corn causa was also incredibly tasty, and the anticuchos and steak were perfectly cooked and juicy. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was lovely, making for a truly enjoyable evening. The selection of cocktails, pisco, and sangria is fantastic, and I highly recommend Jora to anyone looking for a great meal out. I will definitely be returning!
I've never had a bad experience at Jora and I've been here multiple times over the last few years. Fantastic food: I'd recommend the Octopus, the corn causa, the Lomo, and the Jalea. All of the meats were cooked perfectly. The staff was awesome and would definitely recommend this place.
We're so happy to have discovered this gem of a restaurant in the neighborhood. The owner and staff were all incredibly attentive and provided great recommendations for us. Their hospitality is amazing and we loved every single dish and drink. Can't wait to be back; miss their food already and it's only been a few hours.
Delicious and also Instagram photo perfect ! I love how they decorate the food with herbal and it taste so fresh and so good! The staff was nice and kind, the experience we had there was amazing! We were here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and she enjoyed it a lot! We order on appetizer and two entrees, we were full, to bad that we couldn’t try their dessert. But I’ll leave it for the next time. We walked in without reservation during weekdays. When the weather getting chill, I might wanna try outdoor dining next time!
Great diverse menu with many gluten free )and some vegan) options . The lamb shank was AMAZING. Sooooo soft and tasty that I can’t wait to be back and have more. My niece loved her lomo Saltado and my mom said her chicken was good (just little bit dry). Cheese cake was a wonderful light dessert. Can’t wait to try some other dishes on the menu.
This place did not disappoint! Me and my future wife had a complex and well garnished pisco sour that was neither too sour or too sweet and a clarified piscolata with coconut and mango foam that really impressed with its tropical flavors that didn’t overpower each other The meal opened with a lovely choclo short rib tartlette that had a depth to its smokiness I found it heavy but not in a negative way, rather it was welcomed and paired well with the refreshing lightness of the spicy ceviche For mains their aji de gallina was a well executed classic that was elevated but not over done and honored the original well. The lomo saltado had a tangy sauce and was beautifully presented and though I am not a fan of matcha the matcha lava cake almost made me love it. Worth the 15 min wait. The only thing we did not like was the single person bathrooms, on a semi busy night I was waiting 15 mins for the bathroom and that was for the men’s room!
Great Peruvian restaurant. Menu changes periodically and they make tweaks to some of the dishes but for the most part it’s the same. Got to get the grilled skirt steak. Love the empanadas. Everything on the menu has good flavor. Can’t go wrong with anything really. Staff is always friendly. They do not take reservations.
Typically a restaurant gets worse over time, but somehow Jora has just gotten better. I've been coming to Jora for years and it's always been good, but something changed and the food is now just so much better than before. I got the octopus, the shrimp causa, aji de gallina and it was all a step up from the last time I went about a year previously. Great job to the chefs and the staff! Highly recommend
This is how you do it. Take notes to other Peruvian spots out there. Atmosphere 10/10, friendly and attentive staff. Food was out of this world, was recommended some dishes to try, such as the octopus and it blew me away. Portions per $ 10/10. My first trip there today and my family & I were already talking about what we would order on our next visit. Thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday as well. Would highly recommend!
The food was delicious, very soft and tasty beef on our entree, and the service was perfect, always checking up on us should we need anything else. We had the “Lomo Saltado” & the passion fruit cheesecake. I love cheesecake & I love passion fruit margaritas, so why not have both of best worlds. Well, it was so good! I highly recommend. We also had the Margaritas, which were very well made, I have had many, and this Margarita made it to the top of my list. P.s. We had already started eating when we took the picture of the entree “Lomo Saltado” ..
Had a wonderful meal at Jora in Long Island City! I tried the Tuna Ceviche, Seco & Pepan, and finished with the passion fruit cheesecake – each dish was excellent, with fresh flavors and beautiful presentation. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a lovely spot to eat and socialize. Service, however, was a bit slow at times, which was surprising since it wasn’t very busy. Still, the quality of the food and the ambiance more than made up for it. A great place to experience Peruvian cuisine in LIC!
We had a great meal at Jora! We ordered the lomo saltado, the beef was tender and the dish as a whole was quite flavorful just a bit salty. The arroz con pollo was very good, the chicken was so tender. We also ordered the adobo, which wasn’t our favorite. The ceviche mixo was great! I see a lot of comments about their service but we our server was amazing. She was very attentive.
Excellent experience! Was told there would be about a 20 minute wait, only ended up being about 10. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. Server was incredibly helpful, attentive & polite. Drinks were so unique, fun & delicious. Food was incredible, we started off with yuca chips which were great. I had the arroz con mariscos & my date had the seco & pepian. Both were so incredible, the meat was cooked perfectly. Will definitely return!
I totally recommend this place, food was so great, service the same, very attentive. I loved the grilled octopus, as well as the empanadas. About the ceviche, I have to say that it's been a long time since I've eaten a great ceviche, the flavor and texture of the fish were perfect. I'll definitely come back.
This was my first time experiencing the exquisite cuisine at Jora! I was warmly greeted by a gracious host when I walked through the door and cared for so kindly by all of the staff. I ate something light today and ordered the Grilled Shrimp Black Causa. It was perfection! The plating was gorgeous too. Everything about my experience was superb. I look forward to bringing loved ones with me on my next visit. It is definitely a top tier culinary delight!
100% my favorite peruvian resturant of all time. Their menu is excellent soo as their service, their is too many peruvian resturants that they all taste the same. Jora resturant has a very unique delicious menu from app to entre.
Upscale Peruvian restaurant in the heart of LIC. Street parking is not that difficult. Food is amazing! What an experience! The ceviche is a must try, and the yuca fries, and lomo saltado. We got a lot of dishes to share, and loved them all. The dishes are small, but super flavorful with an amazing blend of spices. They do not take reservations, but on an early Saturday dinner, we got seated right away. Best drink was the fig boss
SOOO extremely delicious!! Food was great, atmosphere was amazing, and the service was fantastic. As soon as you walk in, you’re hit with heavenly smells from the food. That’s when we know we were in for a good time! Everything is served family style (big!), so I wish I had come with a large group to try it all 🥲🥲
The service is excellent from the moment you arrive, you have a staff that will tell you which table is yours, personally, take it inside because the view is very beautiful! I tried their ceviche and it's very good! The Pisco was excellent! I like the atmosphere and their food is very authentic! The waiter was very kind and cordial, he has parking for your car in front of the restaurant reserved for customers, something extremely important because you don't have to worry about knowing where you will leave your car, technically it is in front of you
The food is always amazing and the staff is exceptional. The restaurant has a very authentic cozy ambiance. The dishes are perfectly flavored and very unique. I would highly recommend this place for a date night as well as a family-style dinner with family and friends. I've been to this restaurant multiple times and it's never failed to impress!
So impressed by the food and vibe! We tried the veal heart skewers, grilled octopus, and arroz con pollo, all very flavorful and fresh! Service was warm and welcoming. The interior design is another highlight for me: a nice blend of Inca historic and modern open feeling. Will come back to try other dishes!
Jora is hands down our favorite restaurant in all of New York City! The team—especially Gipsey, Sergio, and Miguel—makes every visit feel warm and welcoming. They are intentional and always go above and beyond to ensure that we are taken care of, that our meal is great. Jora is everything that you could want in a restaurant experience. The food is simply outstanding—bold, flavorful, and consistently delicious. Our must-try dishes: the empanadas, jalea, and plantains to start, followed by the Lomo Saltado or octopus, and finishing with the decadent lucuma ice cream. Whether you're visiting or a local, Jora is a must-try. You won’t regret it!
The atmosphere is business casual. The restaurant is very big with a lot of seating. There is a full bar in the back. You can't go wrong with any of the cocktails either. The presentation of the food is so lovely with floral embellishments. The flavor of all the food is so delicious as well. Coat check cost money, and we didn't know that ahead of time. It's pricy but we'll be worth the money. Service is quick, and everyone is very attentive and kind. Great for group settings. I highly recommend it!
This place deserves a Michelin star if it doesn't already have one. The food is not only delicious but a feast for the eyes -- beautiful to look at as much as it is to eat. We had the croquettes, ceviche, and Aji de Gallina, which were all so delicious. They also make the best pisco sour I've ever had.
Me and my family had a great time for my birthday. This restaurant it’s perfect for big parties, food was delicious and the server was great. The only complaint is that they don’t have a kids menu and even though my two year old enjoy the “picante de Salmon”with me, my nephews barely ate. Beside that everything else was fantastic
Took my parents to eat here as we've been wanting to try a new Peruvian restaurant. The first thing that made us super happy? They have parking across the street, though maybe a total of 10 spots? We got there shortly after they opened and it seemed half full already. The service was great and everyone was very attentive. We started off with ceviche, and they got the tang on point! My mother and I had the salmon which had the crunchiest skin and the broth underneath was great. My father had the ribeye, and they must have done something to the brocollini because that man does not eat veggies and he devoured it. He gave me a taste, and even though he ordered it medium well, it was super soft and tasteful. My parents got deserts which they loved. Overall the Jora staff were very attentive and the food was great. The ambiance for noonish was great for chats with lots of families as well. Oh yeah, my mother had a psico sour and was very impressed.
One the best restaurants in nyc across all cuisines. Every dish we have tried is impeccable and perfectly balanced in flavor. Servers are always genuinely thoughtful in terms of allergies and recommendations and just in general. It is on the higher end of cost but for special occasions it is totally worth it. I don't drink but my husband loves their drinks, and I have tried their mocktails, they taste beautiful! Bathroom is clean as well. They do get pretty busy at night, so I'd recommend making a res, especially if you have a bigger party.
We came for lunch and Jora did not disappoint. The ceviche classico was perfectly balanced, the purple potato dish was fluffy and light, and the octopus was tender and charred to perfection. The salad was not anything to ring home for but complemented the bold flavors of the other dishes nicely. It was a bit pricy for lunch but overall, delicious. Oh, and the best part, they have parking!
My wife: "Jora is so good, I love jora! It feels like you are in someone's living room eating the food they cooked for you in their kitchen. It feels like Peruvian comfort food." I'll add that the pisco cocktails are delicious, as well. Don't miss this LIC gem!
FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE WILL BE BACK!!! The best Peruvian restaurant in NYC. Coming from a Peruvian who loves to cook and who has been in the fine dining industry for years. I recommend this to everyone. Went for a birthday and an anniversary. I had the best time and can't wait to be back. They even have outdoor seating and serve your dog water :) This little difference stands out alot of people have dogs and remember this special care. The food quality was delicious and the bathroom was clean. My one feed back is that it's very expensive and for the price your paying the portion sizes are very small so I hope they can take this into account. Otherwise amazing spectacular experience can't wait to be back!!! If you're looking for good Peruvian cuisine this is the place for you :) 🇵🇪🇵🇪
Hidden gem in LIC where the food is amazing, staff is accommodating and the ambiance makes you feel like you’re on vacation! This spot is located on the corner of 47th street so you can miss it. One of the best things about this restaurant is directly across the street. There is free parking for about four cars. The rest is regular street parking. But coming here for lunch. It was easy to park for free in one of those spots. I asked for recommendations from the waitress and what she recommended did not fail. My guest and I left here fully satisfied, and will be returning for dinner to see what the nighttime vibes are all about. I’m interested in trying one of the dishes. The bartender stated that he makes with Budweiser beer!?! Can’t wait to go bake. Go here!!!
Food was absolutely delicious! We had the mixto ceviche, octopus, chicken dish and paella dish. Everything was awesome, the chicken fell off the bone and was so tender. The ceviche was so flavorful, the octopus was tender and so good. The cocktails were great. Will definitely return!
The most tasty Peru dishes with a beautiful presentation and beautiful ambiance Strongly recommended and you wont regret
Food was good, service was good. Food was fresh. My friend enjoyed the salmon. I had the beet salad, ceviche carretilla. We shared the fried yucca. Simply delish! It was busy on a Monday night. Make a resy.
Ahora was on our list of restaurants to come and visit for the lomo salteado. When I say the drinks and the food are a must have, THEY ARE. The meat in the lomo salteado was tender and tasted like it was melting in my mouth. Perfectly seasoned veggies. We got almost every drink on the menu and not a single one was a let down. Definitely recommending their mezcal options. 5/5 without a doubt, will be back in the future!
Came here for holiday work dinner and we had an Incredible fine dining experience! The pisco sours are divine and the authentic Peruvian food is delicious 😋 I highly recommend the jalea appetizer it’s a fried seafood mix with calamari shrimp fish and yucca with red onion and some amazing sauces. I ordered the pastel de choclo which was flavorful with plenty of truffle and cheese 🧀 The lomo saltado came with fries which were such a delight! The pisco shots at the end of the meal were a nice touch too and this place is overall phenomenal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Jora. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make the evening memorable. Miguel was exceptional; he was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Our waitress, Lorena, was equally outstanding. Their care, professionalism, and kindness truly stood out, making us feel exceptionally well taken care of. The food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It was one of those meals where every bite feels memorable. The Lomo Saltado was a standout, but honestly, all the dishes were incredible. What made the night truly unforgettable was how the team helped us celebrate my mother’s birthday. They made a special day even more meaningful, surprising her with a celebratory birthday dessert that she absolutely loved. She had an incredible time and was so grateful for the attention and service, and honestly, so were we. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Jora delivered not just an amazing meal, but a genuine experience filled with care and hospitality. We will absolutely be returning and can’t recommend it highly enough.
Restaurant bar, I went with family to get a drink and small bites. The bar is a separate from the restaurant which is a nice touch. Decor was simple and highlighted Peru's 🇵🇪 culture Nazca lines, the llama neon sign, and precolumbian artifacts and picture frames. As we arrived it was happy hour we enjoyed some drinks from that menu frozen piscos with different flavors l, Sapporo beer and gin atonic andino. We had yuca frita(came with flakes of cheese on top and sauce) sea food plates(came with pickle red onion and a sauce with youcca) and rib were garnished with scallion accompanied with a side of gherkin pickle. Music was playing on the background and it was not over bearing. Overall I enjoyed our outing and plan to return to enjoy restaurant. The server was attentive and brought us more sauce for our yuca.I noticed they did have parking spots that belong to the restaurant. Although I parked on the street.
Jora offers excellent Peruvian dishes. Ceviche carretilla has a prefect blend of flavor and texture with fresh ingredients; tangy and savory, tender and crunchy. Grilled octopus was smoky, not chewy, served over a bed of creamy yukon mille fueille. Salmon was exactly how I like it; crunchy skin with juicy and tender meat, melts in my mouth. Aji amarillo curry was a great addition to the flavor profile with a touch of creaminess. Aji de gallina is a beautiful dish with shredded chicken, I like the addition of quail eggs. The restaurant is spacious, offers both indoor and outdoor seating options. The bar area is quite nice. We were seated immediately without a reservation on a Saturday afternoon. Service is good, although server forgot to deliver my drink even though the restaurant was not crowded at the time. I would recommend this restaurant for the food itself. It's a great place to try if you are looking for Peruvian dishes.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday at Jora and the experience was outstanding from the very beginning. I made a last-minute reservation for a large group of 15 people, and even so, the manager Raúl was extremely kind, attentive, and professional. He handled everything through emails and phone calls, and thanks to him, we were all seated together at one large table, which was truly amazing. The food was delicious, the cocktails excellent, and the desserts outstanding. The service was top-notch: our waiter was always attentive and made sure we felt well taken care of throughout the evening. A very special thanks to Raúl for his dedication and hospitality, and also to our waiter for his patience and kindness. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this restaurant 100%.
We had lunch and it was a nice experience. The food from the appetizers to the dessert was delicious. We had Camilo as a waiter who was very attentive and friendly, he helped us with all our questions. We are definitely going to return with my family and apparently I have already written it down as one of my favorite places.
this is the second time I visited Jora, and the service, atmosphere, food is incredible! The first time I went, I had a reservation. The second time I went, we walked in and they had a table available. Our friends were able to join us on a whim too, and the staff was super accommodating to that. Honestly, all the cocktails, food, and dessert that we got were amazing and no complaints. The staff is super mindful about giving the table space to eat, watching the table if anybody needs anything and the food comes out pretty quickly. Highly recommend!
I’ve lived in this area for years and always wondered why this place is always packed now I get it. The food is amazing and the staff are on top of everything. My partner and I walked in for Friday dinner, and even though we had to wait about 30 minutes, it was totally worth it. I’ll definitely be back and will recommend this spot to friends and family. The only downside is that it’s a bit pricier than other places, so it’s not an everyday meal but overall, it’s absolutely worth it.

Let's keep this honest and straight; the food is very good and beautifully plated, the drinks very well made, the staff very attentive. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely decorated.

We came with high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, it fell short. The menu is quite limited, so I’d recommend reviewing it in advance to ensure it meets your preferences. While the food quality was decent, the portion sizes were small relative to the high prices. If you’re in search of truly authentic Peruvian cuisine, this may not be the best fit.
Finally got around to tasting this gem, this is the first place I have come across to offer a vegetarian option for their Lomo which was delicious! Maybe a bit on the saltier side for me but no complaining here as someone who does not have the opportunity order this dish often. The ceviche was fresh, but spicy so be careful on that, you can ask for no spice .
Came here for a last minute dinner. We took the waitresses recommendations for our dinner. To start we had the grilled octopus which was excellent 9/10. For entrees we had the paella and the ribeye. Paella was a bit disappointing, it came with only one shrimp and then mussels and calamari. I would rate it 6/10. The ribeye was just ok, I would rate it 5/10. We also ordered two cocktails which were made well. Service was also good. Restaurant was good but not sure if I would return for dinner.
Jora was an enjoyable experience. I liked the cocktails they had, they are absolutely delicious. Regarding the food, it is overall pretty good. To me, their cocktails stole the show. The service could have been a little bit more attentive but otherwise we had a good time when we were there. I highly recommend their empanadas, crispy shrimp causa, and their pisco tres leches for those of you with a sweet tooth. I would come back here to try out more of their various main courses.
On a bustling Saturday evening, we did an 8PM walk-in at Jora, opting to wait thirty minutes for a table over immediate seating at the bar. We commenced with three dishes: the Grilled Octopus, placed atop a Yukon mille-feuille; the Jalea, a crispy assortment of fish, shrimp, and squid, paired with yucca and salsa criolla; and the Lomo Saltado, sirloin stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and French fries. The addition of corn to two of the dishes provided a textural intrigue, with glutinous kernels complementing the octopus and semi-popped kernels the Jalea. The Lomo Saltado was just shy of too salty, prompting us to sip water liberally. Our meal concluded with the Passion Fruit Cheesecake, whose creamy tang atop a graham cracker crust helped balanced out the savory dishes. The service we received was cordial, the pricing of each dish was fair, and the appetizers and entree arrived in unison — ideal for larger dining groups. In summary, Jora offers an engaging dining experience with a palette-pleasing array of options, suitable for those who enjoy sharing a meal.
Have eaten here several times and absolutely love this place. Not a single bad appetizer or entree. Pisco drinks are so, so good and very strong! Servers are always warm and friendly. Never had a bad meal here. So why only 4/5 stars you ask? JORA, I AM BEGGING YOU, PLEASE BRING BACK THE MATCHA LAVA CAKE 😭 I was genuinely so sad to see it taken off the menu and the other desserts, while delicious, simply do not compare. A lot of restaurants use matcha in their desserts but don't have actual matcha flavor. The matcha lava cake at Jora was not only perfectly cooked, but had such a nice matcha, strong flavor to it that every bite made it better and better. Please bring it back 🥺
The food is good, but we couldn’t find appropriate kid options on the menu. We had to bring food for our daughter and the manager approached us about it. We understand the restaurant’s policies, but it would be very helpful to add a real kids’ menu or simple options for children. A kids’ menu should be something children actually like and will eat, not just what the restaurant thinks kids should eat. Thank you.
To preface: I am vegetarian. The ambiance was beautiful and the staff were incredibly polite. We came in a bit before the kitchen closed and they still accommodated us. I ordered the only labeled vegetarian entree and to be frank it wasn’t the best. It was just French fries, onions, mushrooms and 2 cherry tomatoes basted in a balsamic-y sauce. I opted for no rice which probably was a mistake, but either way I didn’t think that dish warranted a $20-24 price tag. My brother ordered a meat dish which he throughly enjoyed so I would definitely come back if I could eat meat or for the drinks.
This is one of those places where it’s worth trying everything on the menu because every dish fully meets expectations. I really liked the presentation of the plates, and the octopus is a must-order. The restaurant’s atmosphere includes elements representative of Peru, which elevates the overall experience. Unfortunately, our waitress was not friendly. She made us feel rushed the entire time and even brought the check before we had finished eating. Still, we left a 20% tip because the rest of the staff was very kind and the food was top-notch.
The flavors are vibrant, and the ingredients are incredibly fresh. You can start with the Grilled Octopus, which is perfectly marinated and packs of flavors. The lomo saltado is another favorite, combining tender beef with sautéed onions and tomatoes over a bed of rice and fries. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great spot for casual dinners.
The paella was so delicious, along with the ceviche as the app. The charred broccolini was also phenomenal. The only dish I would advise against getting is the grilled octopus. It was so salty that I was taken aback. I normally love my dishes with a dash more of salt, but this had me reaching for the water almost instantaneously. The drink menu is great with wine, cocktails, and beers. The atmosphere is lovely with the most wondrous decorations.

Their food are rich and well flavored I have to say. Almost all of the dishes were outstanding… except the steak. We ordered medium-rare but it was over cooked and hard to chew. My friend who visited before said it should be way more softer. So we told the server and the person insisted it was middle-rare with an unfriendly attitude, feeling like we meant it. We were not asking for anything but asked the person to check with the chef. But no one got back to us. It’s still a place that worth to try, but I hope their staff can be more professional when addressing food issues with visitors. The rate is based on the experience. I would give 4 or 5 if this didn’t happen.
The good: Presentation of dishes is great and the restaurant is well-situated within Long Island City. The space is great for large groups with a few long tables for bigger parties. The grilled corn causa was the best dish in our opinion—only one we’d get again if we came back. The cheesecake and plantains were also pretty good, but not so much that we’d try again. The bad: like other reviews mentioned, the service is lacking. Hard to get anyone’s attention. When we ordered dessert, someone came and cleared our table before placing the cheesecake down. They then left without leaving any utensils. Can’t exaggerate that ten minutes went by before we were able to get the front host to grab spoons for us. As far as food, the Lomo Saltado with Mushroom smelled like it was doused in soy sauce—an expensive dish that was mostly French fries and onions in sauce. The Burrata was fairly bland. It looks like a good dish, but not worth ordering. Veggie empanadas also a pass—didn’t taste like much.
Customer service inconsistent. When they don't have as many tables, server is more attentive. There is ample staff but experience declines when it is closer to dinner time. Also sat outside due to some party indoors. Food was lukewarm upon serving and cold soon after. We ordered the shredded chicken in stew. Was chewy. Octopus app was good. Arroz con Pollo was good and the seafood paella was perfection.
Some hits but also some misses at Jora! First, drinks -- their pisco sours are delicious! They have so many varieties and options, you can't go wrong. The ceviche was also really fresh and tasty! Definitely recommend trying at least one, as they have a few options on the menu. Unfortunately, the rest of our dishes were disappointing. The nero crab dip was not appetizing and my paella was quite bad. My partner's dish was very salty in some spots and unseasoned in others. We would come back for drinks and to split a ceviche but would skip on the mains.
I’ve never written a follow-up review before, but I felt compelled to update my experience with this restaurant. We drove an hour to return, expecting to enjoy the same delicious dish we had during our last visit. Unfortunately, we left quite disappointed. Not only were the portions noticeably smaller, but the flavor simply wasn’t as good as it was before. I would try to come back in a couple of months when I’m near Long Island city but I know that I’ll be back alone because my wife already told me that she definitely doesn’t wanna come back.
Food: pretty good but small portions (in particular the meat) especially for the price Service: was also pretty good but kept trying to take our plates away when we were taking our time eating and rushed us out even though the restaurant was only ~50% occupation. This really felt weird and kind of passive aggressive too. Atmosphere: very cute restaurant Overall: would not go back due to the aforementioned comments on small food portions and weird service treatment.
I went Jora with my boyfriend yesterday around 4pm. It was not busy time. We ordered ceviche carretilla, crab causa and arroz con mariscos. Food was ok. Not that special. Before we order, servers came to check many times. After we order they just came to bring dishes. They don't check table. We finished water. They never came to fill it up. Even Other table's people were trying to order but their waiter didnt come for long time, they asked other waiter to call their waiter.
Weird racist interaction at Jora today. My friend and I were about to make a reservation for dinner but we saw online that all time slots were available (see pic). So we arrived as a walk-in, to a half-empty restaurant. The host told us one moment, then walked away. The waitress saw us waiting and asked if we needed a table, so we said yes. She was about to bring us to a table when the host came back and told her to not help us in Spanish. I present as a Black woman but I’m fluent in Spanish and understood. Then he looked at the iPad in his hand, which said all the tables were available and not reserved, and then he finally told us we could sit at a table all the way in the front by the door (it was 20 degrees outside). We just turned and walked out the restaurant. We will not dine where we’re not wanted. Very weird and when we looked around we saw there only white people eating there.
Currently, eating here and I’ll say the food so far has been mid. I am from Peru born and raise and it honestly did not taste like home. I order the Fried Yuca which came with huancaina and aged Asiago, the huancaina sauce did not taste like authentic huancaina sauce. I also ordered the Jalea, it was better than the Fried yuca starter. One of my family members ordered a Aji de Gallina and it did not look very appetizing. Another one of my family members ordered a Lomo Saltado with the meat well done and she did not receive it well done. One of my family did not get their order because the waiter did not write his order down. One of my family members ordered the pollo a la Brasa but the waiter came back and said they did not have even though when she took her order she said they had. Overall our experience was not the best at this restaurant. Definitely won’t be coming back and definitely do not recommend it if you are looking for authentic food.
