This was the first time I came to Red Sorghum-WHAT S TREAT. This place is true Chinese authentic cuisine. David made the experience even better! He knew all the dishes and was able to recommend delicious dishes. We started with beer battered nuts (spicy). Then, we got oolong tea with ginseng. We shared the Lo Mein, Chairmain’s Braised Pork, Crab Meat Pork Soup Dumpling, Seafood Supreme Rice, and Lychee Ice Cream. Great place-highly recommend ❤️❤️❤️
Elevated Southern Chinese restaurant with traditional interior and an expansive menu. We ordered the following: With high ceiling, cherry wood furniture, and touches red floral seating decorations, the atmosphere feels classically Chinese and elevated modern. This is a great spot for both lunch and dinner, and I recommend coming in a group so you can order and share multiple dishes. Loved the vibe for both a date and a fun outing with friends.
Recommended. Big space and offer lunch specials menu. Please try eating 🍽️ at this restaurant. They have private space to cater your private events upstairs. Great food and drinks and service. We tried half duck 🦆 menu.
Awsome food, drinks. and experience! Celebrated our friends birthday hear and the staff was so friendly and tolk great care of us - leon took care of us and was the best!! The food was all around a hit, and there was a great variety of specialty cocktails - would definitely recommend and will be back :))))
Dining at Red Sorghum is like discovering an amazing hidden treasure. The restaurant is beautiful, elegant, warm and cozy ambiance with the most friendly, attentive staff. The drink and food menus are impressive and it was so hard to know what to choose. Luckily our server Shirley was very eager and happy to offer suggestions. She made it a point to highlight some of the different dishes that she thought we would enjoy. Everything was so absolutely deliciously addictive. Each bite fragrant and fused with amazing flavors. Can't wait to come back and have another relaxing experience at Red Sorghum.
absolutely delicious! It was super easy to get to off the 7 train from Manhattan and was blown away with the big portions and quality of the food! We got the eggplant, golden tofu and salt and pepper smelt and everything was so delicious. The atmosphere of this restaurant is so vibey and has lots of seating. The service was incredible and you can make reservations super easily. I will definitely be coming back :)
The food, drinks, decor were all top notch. We got the steamed eggs w/ clam, water spinach satay, cucumber salad, and peppercorn fish stew! I’m not the best with spice but the peppercorn was a good numbing type of spice that paired perfectly with the other dishes. Food also came out pretty quickly and everyone was super nice. Would love to come back and try other dishes, they have a huge selection. Would recommend having a reservation as they get quite busy esp on weekends but we were able to snag some seats at the bar!
I came to Red Sorghum for my birthday with a party of 12 and we reserved the private room upstairs. There’s a $50 per person minimum for the private room, which honestly worked out perfectly, we got to order so many dishes and try a huge variety of their menu! The dinner was amazing from start to finish. The food came out in waves, a few dishes at a time, which I really appreciated, it kept the table from feeling too crowded and let us enjoy each dish fresh. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall service was excellent. Everyone in my group raved about how flavorful everything was. Some standout dishes were: - Chairman’s Braised Pork: melt in your mouth fatty and tender, served with quail eggs. - Xiang Xi Fried Rice: packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. - Mali Tofu: bold, spicy, and so addictive. Most of the dishes had a spicy kick, but it was balanced and absolutely delicious. I’d definitely recommend Red Sorghum for anyone looking to celebrate an event with a larger party or even just with friends. (Food was so good, forgot to take more photos)
Sunday brunch walk-in got us to this old neighborhood Szechuan classic restaurant. Put it simply, extremely bold flavors overall. Menu is on the expensive end, but portion sizes are big enough for adults to share. One cannot go wrong with their Longevity Chicken Soup ($28) if you are sick or trying to escape from winter weather! The House Fried Rice ($20) pared really well with Golden Peppercorn Chicken Stew ($30). We felt it was overpowered by the pepper corn though, and we'd highly recommend getting their boneless option. Service was very quick and food arrived as it got ready and within 10-mins of placing the order. The staff is really friendly and were happy to interact and keep our little one busy! We often recommend this place to our friends and family when they crave Szechuan food with a fairly intimate and cozy set-up!
This place has really good food. I especially enjoy their scallion pancakes. I had a chicken dish of theirs, which looked really good but I think there was too much of a acidic taste to it that started making my mouth uncomfortable as I was eating it. But the atmosphere is beautiful. The service is great.
I was able to get a table on a Saturday night around 9pm for a late dinner. We ordered the ginger scallion fish fillet. It was decent, boneless fish with a hint of flavor. I’d say it’s only the blander side in flavor and presentation. The water spinach satay was delicious, the shrimp paste was not overpowering. I did find some harder stem pieces, which I personally am not used to eating. I thought the prep of this vegetable could be improved to remove those pieces. They’re like hay straws in your mouth. The chicken truffle soup dumplings was underwhelming, not enough truffle flavor and didn’t care for the skin. Wish the vinegar sauce was more vinegary, tasted diluted. The fried glutinous rice balls with black sesame paste inside was a good end to the meal, with a side of lychee ice cream. Overall, a decent choice for dinner in the area however not somewhere I’d travel out of the way for unfortunately.
Atmosphere is really nice, old Shanghai style of decoration, Chinese antiques everywhere and a beautifully designed bar. Food is halfway decent Chinese food that veers on the salty side, very pricey tho however.... for dishes that are served at a lot of other Shanghainese/cantonese style restaurants, I wish they didn't charge an arm and a leg for these "typical" Chinese manor style dishes. Other than the expensive price point, food is decent and the vibe is nice. Service is good too, however I had to pour my own wine and that is a bit disappointing considering the high price point.
I’ve lived in this neighborhood for a long time and have often heard that the food here is great but the service is terrible. After finally visiting, I can honestly say I don’t think the service is bad, it’s more accurate to say there is no service at all. Here’s what I experienced: * There are no water refills because they leave one bottle of water on the table. * There is no table check-in no one comes by to ask how the food is or if everything is okay. * If you have leftovers, there is no assistance packing your food. They bring you empty containers and you pack it yourself. * When paying, the tip screen suggests 20%, 22%, and 25%. I genuinely wondered what level of service would justify a 25% tip, given that almost everything is self-service. That said, there are strong positives: * The environment is beautiful it really elevates the experience above a typical neighborhood restaurant. * The food is excellent. * The drinks are also excellent. Overall, it’s a great place for food, drinks, and atmosphere. Just don’t come expecting traditional table service.
This place used to be my go-to Chinese spot in LIC, but today’s visit was absolutely disappointing. I ordered a couple of dishes that I usually get, so I know how they’re supposed to taste. When the food arrived, I realized I couldn’t finish it at all because everything was extremely salty. It honestly tasted like they had poured a handful of salt into the dishes. The Dry Pot Mala, house fried rice, and chicken dish were all awful. They really need to adjust their seasoning. We couldn’t even finish one dish and had to pack all the leftovers so I could add something at home to adjust the saltiness.
