Opinions de Tacos Al Vapor Los Altos
The best Al pastor I’ve had in the Bay Area! I’m from LA and miss the street tacos at every corner but this place definitely scratches that itch. They grill their burritos and fill them with the perfect amount of each ingredient. I keep coming back!
The value for money is excellent, especially if you get the eight Taco plate. Beyond the value for money, every Taco I had was outstanding. These included: lengua, carnitas, al pastor, and cabeza.
We had the 8 tacos special, chose beef cheeks and BBQ pork. Their beef cheeks were so soft and juicy, pork was grilled perfectly too. Their tortillas were also freshly made! We can also enjoy free salsa bar with many types of sauces. Their service was excellent too. It was a great local restaurant with a warm family feel. I’m sure we’ll come back soon!
Favorite taco spot in the Los Altos/Palo Alto area!! Also reasonably affordable in comparison to other restaurants in the bay. Definitely recommend the 8 taco deal and splitting it with someone! Loveeeeee the homemade tortillas and the salsa. Definitely a hidden gem. Service is also impeccable 💘
Love the Mexican small town vibe right in the heart of the Los Altos. Our favs are the michocan style steamed tacos with freshly grilled stuff Hard to resist the temptation of tortilla chips with sauce bars is can get too filling 😀
New find for me! Great tasting food, no extra charge for chips and salsa!
The best Mexican food in town. Handmade tortillas, the Asda is seasoned to perfection. I tried the Asda plate and it did not disappoint. The rice and beans are so good. The tacos were tender, juicy, and well seasoned.
Been waiting for a great authentic local taco spot and it’s finally here. Self service chips and salsa counter which is already a huge plus. Salsas are all super fresh and flavorful. They definitely don’t hold back on the spice for a couple of them. I tried the al pastor pork and a few of the beef tacos. From what I can tell the pastor isn’t sliced off a trompo but the flavor was still superb. Beef was the highlight for me, especially the asada and cabeza. Affordable pricing at $3 a taco, they have a combo of 8 tacos for $21 too. Highly recommend stopping for a bite. Wouldn’t surprise me if they have a line out the door before too long!
I got a taco de lengua it was perfection I also got a carne asada plate with beans rice and Mexican salad if you want an authentic Mexican experience I HIGHLY recommend this place even the tortillas are made to perfection. Food is so good I stopped mid meal to write this review sorry no taco photo available as I couldn’t resist eating it
So so so good - highly recommended. My wife and I shared the 8 taco meal and it’s an amazing deal for $22. Definitely try the carnitas and al pastor. Also, I loved the self serve salsa bar - great choices! Will be going back often!

8 taco combo with a drink was great! Carnitas were crispy and delicious! Love the salsa bar!
The good: The food is spectacular, like every single item is 10/10, and the portions are good/large. There is a salsa bar is one of the best you'll run across, with a variety for any taste. The staff is friendly and always happy to help. The bad: Prices have gone up for their signature Rigo's plate to where some coworkers have sworn off going to TAVPM. Again, the food is amazing but they raised their prices from roughly $20 for 8 tacos to almost $30. Wether you are dining in or order ahead, there always seems to be a delay. Like one time I ordered, waited 30 minutes, drove there at what should have been the 40 minute mark and still waited another 20 minutes for my food. Considering I placed my order around 10:30am for an early lunch, this just doesn't work. The place is pretty small so you may have to eat outside or take it to go.
Been coming here for over a year because it is the best Mexican food in Los Altos and it’s not even close. Period!!!! Equally happy and sad that it is gaining popularity. They deserve it- miles better than the other restaurants in downtown. The super burrito is unreal but the suadero tacos changed my life.
Best tacos in Los Altos! I had never seen brisket tacos before and it is a must have! Also love their chips and fresh salsa! My husband is a burrito connoisseur and says they have the best tacos he has ever had!

Great value for money tacos right on main street Los Altos! The meat was generous. The salsa/sauce bar was fresh. So many different cuts of meat to choose from. We ate indoors but saw that many took their order to eat out on the street using tables in front of other shops. 3 tacos were a perfect lunch for me. And their watermelon agua fresca hit the spot. (not too sweet)
I believe they started as food truck and now have a shop in downtown Los Altos. It is a small shop with a few tables inside and also have a couple tables outside. Nothing fancy but the tacos are really good. The meats are prepared to perfection and the tortillas I assumed are pan fried and have this slight crispy texture. Very good tacos. Free chips and salsas are a plus.
The asada and carnitas tacos are phenomenal! There also was a great variety of salsas to try. We ordered al pastor, shrimp and fish which were good but I wouldn’t likely order again and would just get carne asada and tacos. It’s a small, casual place, and easy to order from!

Very tasty tacos and spicy salsas delicious Place was a bit dirty (example plastic lids for tiny salsa cups floating in the salsa, full trash bins) but the flavor is good, price is very reasonable as well

The lemonade and tacos were really good. The sope was alright. It was kind of greasy/watery. There were barely any beans on it and they were kind of weird; I expected the usual refried. The shell was also charred too much and tasted burned. There were also flies which were annoying to deal with.

I was excited to try these tacos because I was told how delicious they are, and while I agree, Id have to say the service and wait time was AWFUL. The restaurant is already small as it is, so to witness the cashier continue to tell people placing orders "10-15 minutes" was bad business. They "forgot" my online order and was told by a the young cashier that she hadnt "checked online orders" .. I waited for at least 20 minutes for 4 tacos that I placed ahead of time. Several people had already been waiting up to 45 minutes for a burrito! So while the food was delicious, the owners to come up with a much more efficient way to handle food orders!
Ordered El Pastor, no onions, both in English and Spanish. They served tacos, full of onions, when asked, they explained that El Pastore comes with onions. So they acknowledge we ordered them without. After explaining that I was allergic, they told me I could get other tacos without onions, but would have to pay for them. Then it took 30 minutes to get tacos made without onions.
We’ve been ordering from Tacos Al Vapor quite a bit over the last year, glad to have this option in Los Altos. Food has been generally very good and we’ve been happy customers, but but we found a screw in my wife’s beef cheek taco yesterday. Good thing she didn’t bite down on it too hard… she thought it was a bone but spat out a screw. I thought it’s okay, it happens no big deal, we bring her remaining tacos back to the store, at least so that they know and make sure their equipment is tightened up so it doesn’t happen to other people. Went back to the store, told the cashier and immediately her response was “we don’t use this kind of screws”… she went to check with the kitchen, I assume the manager is manning the grill, I could see her body language was along the lines of “no way it happened here”. I’m thinking this is Los Altos, you think people would drive back in 95 degree heat just to scam your restaurant?! Cashier was then nice about it, asked what we wanted and offered us a refund on 1 of the 3 combo deals we ordered. It was fine but the important part was that they were pretty dismissive and didn’t seem like they really cared about the potential damage this could have caused and general food safety. If my wife had chipped a tooth this would probably have turned ugly. Not sure if I’d go back.
