Opinions de Lamonica's NY Pizza Los Angeles
Piping hot NY-style pizza in Westwood. The cheese pull is strong. The crust had an excellent crunch. What more can you ask for? Also, they're open late at night so this is a huge plus for college students living in the Hill or near the Hill. I went with my friend after we turned in a super lengthy project. This pizza was our reward for the night. Not much of a wait time. The only wait time was for them to heat up the pizza in the oven.
A taste of NYC in LA. 🍕 Lamonica’s nails the New York vibe, from the decor to the pizza itself. They claim their dough comes straight from NYC—can’t confirm, but the pizza delivers. They don’t skimp on ingredients or stretch the dough too thin. The cheese slice was exactly how I remember a classic NY slice—cheesy, flavorful, and satisfying. The BBQ chicken was a little too sweet for my taste, but it still was a great slice. The grandma pepperoni slice had great fluffy-yet-crispy dough and well-spiced pepperoni, though I’ve had better versions where the sauce really stood out. Nice staff, quick reheating, and plenty of seating (both standing and sitting options). A few small tweaks—especially to the tomato and BBQ sauce—could take it to the next level, but overall, this is exactly the kind of experience you'd expect at this price point.
Went to UCLA as an undergrad from 2006-08. This was a go to spot for a cheap slice but also one of the best slices I’ve had in LA. Almost 20 years later and I still go here when I can, which is not so easy since I live in East LA. One bite and it always reminds me of my college days, still tastes the same. I love their pepperoni, meat lovers, and mushroom pizzas but you honestly can’t go wrong here.
I had the deep dish, extra cheese, large pizza and it was delicious! I hate a soggy pizza, and this one definitely was well cooked and cheesy. The large was very large and easily fed four hungry adults. It was ready in the 15 minutes that was promised. The only thing that I was disappointed about was that they did not have a public bathroom and you had to walk down to Whole Foods to use the bathroom. The staff was very nice and efficient.
By far… the best pizza I have ever tasted in town. Thanks for share this masterpiece in the culinary arts, because it’s a well hand made pizza, giving a nice taste of freshness and you will not be disappointed. It is like the in between of thin & crispy, and Pan Pizza. I love it with Garlic granulated, Red Pepper Flakes and Parmesan Cheese, and a Big Cold Coke.
My first trip there. Great pizza, quick, efficient and friendly service, but more importantly the pizza was awesome! I have Sicilian, cheese slice, was very good. Another plus is the had plentiful condiment toppings readily available. Price very reasonable, I would definitely recommend it, and return again in the future.
Excellent pizza! I’ve been coming here for over 25 years. Try a slice cold or hot, you can’t beat it. It is very delicious pizza 🍕. Not a whole lot has changed here since 1980. Consistently the best slice of pizza and customer service. They are NOT cheap with the toppings. Look at the mushroom slice, perfectly covered. Yummy 🤤.
A decent effort to create an authentic NYC pizza on the West Coast. The crust is the highlight of the slice, and they had a good thinness as well. Cheese overpowered the sauce a lot, but overall a nice experience.
Pizza needs to be warmed up a little more, food was a bit cold when received it, garlic knots were burnt on the bottom, so those need to be cooked better initially. Other than that, good place for a quick bite to eat.
I moved a few weeks ago to this area from NY/CT area and wanted a NY style pizza, and I believe Lamonica's mostly delivers. The pizza is pretty good, but a lot of it depends on the warming time right before you get it. I've had slices here range from perfect crisp to pretty soggy so I would just make sure you get it warmed up enough beforehand. Unfortunately, Lamonica's has smaller slices than typical NY style which is a little sad as I've had slices in and around NY much bigger than Lamonica's but they're still big slices. They are just barely foldable but a lot of times a little soggy unfortunately. The service is pretty hit or miss, but most of the time it seems fine albeit it seems a lot of the time that most of the employees here just don't really want to be here. However, they're all pretty helpful. The price feels a little high, I would only come here on a lunch special (11AM-3PM I believe?) as the prices seem pretty high, about $5-6 per slice + $3.25 for a drink. The place is so great though, as a transit nerd I love all the older subway memorabilia. The whole place just generally feels like NY to me. All in all, the pizza is good and the place is great.
Pretty classic New York style pizza in Los Angeles! The crust is really good with a great crunch and chew. The toppings are good too and with nice ratio between the cheese and crust. I got the Veggie and it was topped with lots of bell peppers, some olives and onions. The tomato sauce is really good too. A slight tartness for it to standout and complement everything else. It's opened until 10 pm pretty much everyday and is right next to a Whole Food if you need to pick up some groceries. Overall, great place to check out if you want no frills pizza!
$11 a cheese pie in the evening and all day Sunday, it is a great deal and decent pizza. Judging pizza is subjective, everyone is different, I grew up eating Ray's pizza in NY. To me, the pizza is average at best. The business will not survive if it is in NYC. The chicken wings are great and healthier since they are baked. The service is excellent.
Had a slice of the Sausage and a slice of Hawaiian. The sausage was good but not the same style meat was used as in the past 15 years. The Hawaiian was okay. The pineapple tasted blah, and the sauce was very skimpy. Anyway, not what I expected. Maybe the ownership changed or something. The dough was good though.
What do they do here, ship in water from New York or something? Do they import their dough from New York over here? When you walk into this place, you forget you're in Westwood next to a Whole Foods. You seriously might trip out, man. It looks and feels like you're in a New York Subway except there is Pizza and seats and tables to sit down and eat Pizza. I have had Lamonica's countless times and one day I'll have it again. I will have Lamonica's NY Pizza at some point when I am in LA in the future. I don't know about you but I like feeling like I am in a New York subway without actually being in one. I would rather just eat Pizza than have to deal with being in the New York Subway personally. Pro Tip: Buy a full Pizza from here and eat almost all of it or all of it and then go straight to the Float Lab for a session.
I've had Lamonica's bookmarked for years and years and I can finally say that this is just average pizza. Makes sense that in a college town every other restaurant is busy while I was the only customer here. When I walked in, I wasn't actually sure who worked there as there were 3 people yelling and laughing, only one who was initially behind the counter. Then as I went to pay I realized the other two were also "working" so I'm not sure how much attention there is to the business. I ordered a sausage slice and a Sicilian cheese square. The sausage slice had a good amount of sausage with good flavor. The part of the dough with the toppings had a good chew but the outer crust was extremely dry overcooked. As for the square slice, the sauce was a little sweet but good, but the amount of cheese was embarrassing. The dough in the middle again had a good fluffy chew but it was still dry and especially the outer crust. I feel like they overcook their pizzas, which sit out for who knows how long, drying out, then get dried out even more when reheated to order. I've had much worse and I've had much better and this won't be a place I return to
Very nice decor and environment but the pizza does not taste like NY style. It's small slices yet they charge almost $5 per slice. Nothing on the pizza stood out i.e. dough, sauce, cheese. Pizza was very forgettable. My slice also wasn't heated very well, so it was luke warm at best. Go a couple of blocks further to Enzo's for a slice. Not worth it due to taste or value. If you want a nice Instagram photo inside then go here. Don't expect much from the pizza.
Ordered 2 pizzas and a salad on oct 30th only got the pepperoni and salad u called talked to the manager at the time. I let them know the driver only had one of my two pizzas and only my salad due to being in class I would not be able to go and get the 2nd one. I was told I could come in at a later date and get the cheese pizza. Came in today to collect and was told I needed proof. So the 12 calls from the shop and the driver wasn't enough? K keep the 1 star. Sad part food was good service nopppppeeeee
