Opinions de Marmalade Cafe Los Angeles
Marmalade Cafe was a great experience from start to finish—the food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. It’s an easy go-to spot for brunch or a relaxed meal with friends, and everything we tried tasted high quality and well made. Would definitely come back again.
The team was getting slammed last night on Valentine’s Day! Just want to give a shoutout to Jason and everyone working on a holiday with a bunch of callouts. They were clearly understaffed and doing the best they could. In his racing around, Jason still checked up on us multiple times during our meal and even made our cocktails for us. As someone that works in hospitality, I hope the owner and manager reads my review and does better for their team next time there are massive callouts. Everyone kept a smile. Great work team!
their calamari is to die for!!!! super fragrant and savory, I'm usually not a big fan of the legs but they were so yummy and cooked to perfection. I also had the branzino, good, nothing special. portions for each dish were a lot larger than we expected! our server Jason was very friendly and patient as we had difficulty deciding what to eat- their menu is huge and so many things sounded good.
Great place to go to when the other places have long lines. This is a big beautiful restaurant with tons of inside AND outside seating. Near where the Farmers Market and The Grove meet, so it's hard to tell which one you are in. Make sure you get validated for parking here or at Cost Plus World Market (if you are parked in the outside parking lots that belong to Farmers Market, not the Grove parking structure). Big Menu, good food, good service. We came for a late lunch and caught the Happy Hour Menu, which was fab. I just ordered off that and 2 soups for both of us. That was plenty of food. The Happy Hour Menu even has a Big Dessert Menu within it! Each dessert is 8 dollars, like the other food items. Happy Hour is 3-6 pm, and it might be 7 days a week (that's the way I interpreted the listed hours, but call and ask), which would be incredible. We've also been here with my family ordering off the regular menu, and it's totally reasonable considering the quality, quantity, location, and atmosphere. Oh, almost forget to mention our waiter (last week, on Monday afternoon) was great...he was so patient, even got our parking validated early instead of making us wait.
This is a must go to establishment every time I am in LA. Taryn (manager) was amazing and Crystal and the rest of the staff were awesome as well. Last but not least, THE FOOD is heavenly. The pineapple upside down pancakes and the dark chocolate macadamia pancakes is a tough choice. But they both pale in comparison to the waffles. This place doesn’t miss with the food or service.
The marmalade is a catch all variety spot that adds the option of no pressure convenience to what can otherwise be a hectic visit to the always bustling Grove. It’s the dependable blended whiskey that always stars at the party not because it’s the best but because it’s never bad and accommodates so many. It’s enormous and beautiful, inside and out. The open patio makes this a simple guilt free choice for families with kids. And as alluded, the menu has a little something for almost everyone. Soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and living up to fresh ingredients, our veggies felt like they came from a secret garden somewhere in the back. The full bar lets you season your lunch with bubbles or a cocktail. This is not the place you go to have an amazing meal at the Grove, this is the place you go to eat because you wanted to go to the Grove and you need to eat. It is the breakaway down time that gives you back energy if you came to spend time checking out everything this mall and market have to offer and want a break from the crowd while still enjoying a nice meal. You’ll be seated quickly but not necessarily waited on as quickly as some would like. Enjoy the people watching.
Standard but good, and the service is always great. Usually there is little to no wait, which makes it an easy choice. I had the chicken piccata and it felt like you get a little bit of everything on the plate. The French onion soup was good, though a bit saltier than I am used to. Overall, it is a solid sit down spot that will not break the bank. For parking validation, make sure you park on the Farmers Market side, not the Grove side.
This is located at The Grove so you’ll have to park at a garage. It’s my First time here. We came for lunch. We ordered Calamari, Spicy Ahi Tuna Tartare, Ginger Sesame Glazed Salmon with Broccolini, Lobster and Shrimp Linguine (but made with Penne) and Baja Cioppino. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the calamari and the Ahi Tuna since I love seafood. All the food was served hot and fresh. The price was quite standard not too expensive. note: the Ahi Tuna is quite enough for lunch (I was thinking it was an appetizer) it’s still definitely shareable. The Cioppino is one dish not to miss. It’s a must. It’s another shareable meal. The restaurant has great lighting and decor. But can come dressed casual. Some dishes are pricey just FYI. But definitely worth a try. If you're on budget this restaurant might be good for a special occasion (in my opinion). The service was excellent. There wasn't a long wait at all. We were seated right away. Our order was taken right away and the food came fast. And it was nice and hot. Just the way it should be served.
Went for brunch today with my friend. No waiting outside, we got seated right away thinking it’s Sunday brunch. But when got seated we waited at least 15 mins to have someone come over and took our orders. Oh well, the hostess was saying the assigned waiter is busy because he is also serving the patio. But, they have many waiters so I don’t think it was the reason I think he was just slow. Anyway, we got our orders and while in the middle of eating which I’m kinda of full already I felt a little metal string and whew it is. I called the waiter and showed to him and he knew it is a metal string. ( found in my pineapple upside down pancake ) I asked for the manager and they both apologized. We don’t want any discount nor comp for our food. My point, Make sure the cook or chef is careful when mixing preparing any customers food because you never know who you will deal with or what others will react when things like that happen. For me just wanted to inform them, no drama no hassle. I’m glad I’m almost full and I didn’t even finish my food. The smoked salmon is okay but not okay. Oh well at least 4 stars ⭐️ still not bad considering what we had little experience.
The food here isn’t bad it’s the customer service, I’ve been. Coming more often since they have this lunchbox special. Mind you I just like that it comes with a drink and cookie. But I like to add things to it so of course it won’t be $10. But when I ordered ( I’m black btw) he assumed I wanted to add extra for free despite me saying I’ve been here before and made the order. I don’t mind paying extra. And he kept emphasizing that it was a cheap promotion, and I’m like ???? OK, I’ve been here before no need to do the extras. The last two times I’ve been here very rude people behind the bar. It’s not even like the food is bad or anything, I genuinely despise bad customer service. And to throw it in there, the chefs were talking about us and our order complaining. The crazy thing is I’m paying and not complaining about it? My friend and I are literally adding to our order so It’s not like we’re being cheap?? They’re literally just being nasty, mind you the restaurant is almost always empty. You should be grateful we’re even in the establishment. I wouldn’t suggest coming if you’re dining in unless you’re white. Being condescending will land me writing an in depth review, being polite is always wiser.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Lobster and the eggs were great but the lobster seemed like it was frozen and thawed because it was very bland, watery, with only a hint of lobster flavor. The Bloody Mary was great and well presented. Previously I have had the Beef Stew and it is the best.
Nice atmosphere, great location, great service, but the food is just okay. The coffee is really good though, I would definitely return for the coffee. My son really enjoyed his pancakes, but they were just buttermilk pancakes, nothing special. The eggs Benedict were good, but not enough to order them again, the potatoes were overcooked. The burrito was plain and not very flavorful. I will return again though, I’ll just order something different.
The food was large in portion and small in flavor, somehow a notch below olive garden in quality. We got the bowtie pasta w/ salmon, chicken pot pie, and mushroom soup. Prices were reasonable-ish, but maybe too expensive considering how unflavorful it was. Our server, she was great though!
Great atmosphere especially patio. Everything tasted bland. I had to put ketchup and salt to add flavor. Waiter never comes by. Only Mushroom soup was tasty. Try breakfast next time because how bad can it be with eggs and pancakes. Because not lot of affordable casual restaurants near by this place is busy. Choose only breakfast. Sandwiches and pastas are really bland. Although portions were big (pasta). Quality not quantity. Food service atmosphere. Food looked good from outside but not tasty. I dont like giving negative reviews. I usually delete after management reads it to fix and improve. I give two stars not one because atmosphere was good.
So many places to eat at the farmers market and the Grove, I was shocked at how poor this experience was. Terrible service. Food in this environment should be top notch, average or anything but what we got today. Prime rib sandwich and Tuna melt was gas station quality at best. If you absolutely feel like you have to eat here, get a salad. Nice atmosphere is the only redeeming factor.
Marmalade Café Leadership Team, I am writing to formally share my deep disappointment with the service I received during a recent visit, specifically from one of your employees, Dorothy G. After being seated, I waited over 15 minutes without any greeting or acknowledgment. The restaurant was not busy, yet I felt completely ignored. At one point, I literally had to wave down another staff member just to get Dorothy’s attention. I even tried to smile at another employee — a young Hispanic woman with glasses — to get some help, but she looked directly at me and then turned her head. It was as though no one wanted to serve me. In an almost empty restaurant, that type of treatment is not just unacceptable, it’s insulting. Guests should never feel like they are a bother, yet that is exactly how I was made to feel. When it was finally time to check out, Dorothy looked me in the face, smiled as if she was coming to assist me, then went to another table and never returned. I sat another 20 minutes before approaching her myself. When I did, she brushed me off with, “I have other tables.” That excuse was both dismissive and unnecessary — particularly in a restaurant that was far from full. The food itself was also concerning. I ordered the ahi tuna, which should have been served chilled, but it arrived hot and unappetizing. The outside looked grated while the inside had uneven chunks, as if it had been left out too long. I even asked Dorothy if it was canned because it looked and tasted so unusual, but she didn’t seem to understand why I was asking. The checkout process only added to the frustration. Dorothy unnecessarily involved the manager, framing it as if I had requested to speak with one — which I had not. Even more troubling, the manager signed the check on my behalf without my permission, initially recording “no tip.” I had to insist that it be corrected, as I fully intended to leave one. It was unprofessional, inappropriate, and disrespectful for a staff member to assume control of a guest’s check in that way. From start to finish, this experience left me feeling dismissed, disrespected, and unwelcome. In today’s environment, restaurants cannot afford to treat paying guests as if they are inconveniences. It is customers who keep the restaurant afloat, and the service I received sent the opposite message. I am extremely displeased with how I was treated by both Dorothy and the manager, and I hope your leadership team takes this matter seriously. I am bringing this to your attention because I expect better and because I do not want other guests to endure the same treatment. Sincerely, Shalonda
Disappointing Experience at Marmalade Café – The Grove I don’t usually write negative reviews, but our experience at Marmalade Café in The Grove was truly disappointing and needs to be shared. We came in for breakfast and ended up waiting about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. When it finally did, the plates were extremely hot — almost too hot to touch — which made it clear the food had been sitting under a heat lamp for far too long before being served. To make matters worse, my plate looked dirty, which was very unappetizing. I asked the manager to please change both my food and the plate. Within two minutes, the dish was returned to me, which made it seem like they had simply transferred the same food onto a different plate rather than preparing a fresh one. That felt very dismissive and unprofessional. Interestingly, the table next to ours also expressed the same concerns and mentioned it when they saw our frustration. During the entire experience, we barely saw our server. No one checked on us during our long wait, and we were not offered any water — bottled or tap — until we had finished eating and were about to request the check. The lack of basic service and attention was extremely disappointing. Overall, this was a frustrating visit due to poor service, long wait times, and a lack of cleanliness and care. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant and sincerely hope they take these concerns seriously to improve their guest experience.
