Opinions de Pine and Crane Silverlake Los Angeles
Lately I’ve been trying more places serving Asian dishes in town than I used to be, and my most recent one being Pine and Crane. As expected, tough parking in Silver Lake, but fortunately ordering process wasn’t as bad. As the venue was busy, guests were required to place order at the counter before being seated. The staffs were super accommodating in trying to assure shorter wait time. Coming in a group of four, we’re trying multiple dishes by having family-style meals. We got their Pork Belly and Beef Roll for small plates, Wood Ear Mushrooms and Lotus for sides, and their iconic Dandan noodles from the noodle selection along with Twiced Cook Pork from the rice dishes. Price to portion was decent and sharing was certainly great idea to enable you trying multiple items. The pork belly had strong garlic flavor, so tender, and perfectly thin-sliced that it felt like melted in my mouth. The beef roll was one of my highlights, seemed simple combining beef slices and leek yet I was always a fan of this kind of Chinese pancakes. Then my number one was doubtlessly the most peanut-based Dandan noodles. This iconic dish was such comfort food especially for me a peanut lover. The noodles certainly elevated it, getting the whole group impressed by how cheesy it was and how flavorful the sauce was. The crushed nuts toppings enriched overall texture play on the plate. Besides, ordering extra sides of woodear mushrooms and lotus were great companions to this carbs! Their milk tea was also worth trying and pretty affordable.
The prices were good, the atmosphere was nice, and the food was generally delicious. Four of us went and ordered about six dishes, and 3 side dish which was just the right amount. Personally, I really enjoyed the beef roll and the shrimp wontons, and the sea salt cream tea was truly unique and tasty. I usually don’t like mixed drinks, especially creamy foods or teas, but this one was wonderful. Maybe because it was Wednesday morning, it wasn’t very crowded. I came back just a week later because I was craving this drink and foods again. I ordered the Salt Cream Green Tea which I love it, it didn’t taste like the salt cream at all. I asked a female staff member, and she told me it was correct, which made me wonder if maybe I was mistaken. But after a few more sips, I was still sure something wasn’t right. So I politely asked another staff member named SEAN if it would be possible to add more of the salted cream topping because I couldn’t taste it. Sean was incredibly kind and understanding. He took the drink back to add more salt cream, and when he returned, he sincerely apologized and told me I was right — it wasn’t salt cream . He immediately replaced it with a new drink, and even generously gave the same drink to my daughter for free. What impressed me the most was not just the correction, but Sean’s attitude, tone of voice, and the genuine kindness he showed. He made us feel respected and cared for, and completely turned the experience into a positive one. Because of him, I would absolutely come back and recommend this place to others. I truly hope the restaurant recognizes SEAN for his excellent customer service. He represents the business in the best possible way. At the same time, I hope all staff receive consistent training so every customer can have the same positive experience. Thank you again, Sean, for your kindness and professionalism. You made our day better.
Came here for quick solo lunch and it was so nice and cosy. Perfect location for people watching, too. Staff was friendly and the Dan Dan noodles super tasty
Food is great, and the vibe is great. I especially want to thank the kind lady who kept my bag - you saved my life. I accidentally left my bag (with my wallet and very important documents inside) at the restaurant, but the staff safely held onto it. I returned about an hour and a half later, and everything was there. Thank you so much, you're the best! I'll definitely be back for the delicious food and outstanding service.
I can't believe I have not been here already. I cannot vouch the authenticity, but the food was delish! At the time of my visit, it was quick service and we were able to find seating inside for 2. They do have a communal table in case you have a rather large group. Can't wait to try the other dishes. Also it's best to share, but your choice.
Lunch today at Pine & Crane in Silverlake wasn’t just a meal—it was a quiet revelation. In a city that often hustles past its own beauty, this place slows the clock just enough to let something real take hold. From the moment I stepped through the door, the staff welcomed me with a kind of calm attentiveness that felt both professional and personal—not cloying, not distant, just right. The food? A harmony of grace and muscle. The shrimp dumplings were the opening notes—steamed just so, tender and vivid with flavor, as if they’d been made not in a kitchen but in some remembered home. Then came the pork belly and cabbage—a dish of depth and honesty, savory and supple, the kind of thing that lingers in your memory long after the plate is cleared. And the peanut and cilantro dish? Strange, bright, and altogether brilliant—a kind of edible jazz that worked in ways I didn’t expect but didn’t want to stop eating. Everything tasted fresh, clean, and deliberate. No flash, no fuss. Just good food made by people who clearly care. The kitchen moved with quiet confidence—quick without ever feeling rushed. Like a submarine crew, yes—but not just efficient. Disciplined. Poised. As if everyone in the back knew they were participating in something worthwhile. The sauces—small miracles—lifted everything even higher. You don’t always notice sauce unless it’s missing or overdone. Here, it was neither. It simply belonged. And then there’s the pricing. Fair is too small a word. For the quality, the portions, the whole experience—it felt generous. Pine & Crane Silverlake doesn’t shout. It doesn’t need to. It offers something far better: the steady, quiet joy of a place doing its work beautifully. I’ll be back soon—probably sooner than I should be.
Many of us have grown up on Chinese food takeout. Well this ain’t that! This is @pineandcrane authentic Taiwanese food and “amazing” is an understatement! Dumplings, ground beef & rice, beef rolls, and followed by the traditional apple soda will leave you wondering why you have not tried this cuisine earlier in your life!
Food here gave me homie vibes! It was better than another shop that sold Taiwanese style food. This place is a hype spot. Ordered a few things to share and would needa come back to try their rice bowls that also looked amazing. Had their egg omelette, Taiwanese sausage, lotus appetizer and beef noodle soup. Oh man did those hit home. The beef in the noodle soup was the only downside to the many items I’ve tried because it wasn’t very tender but everything else was brilliant. My favorite out of all the dishes ordered was prob the lotus and egg omelette.
Suuuuuuch a great experience at Pine and Crane! The food was out of this world, and their beverage options are phenomenal! The staff was super dialed and kind, too! Absolutely loved the farm fresh vegetables (cabbage and chrysanthemum greens), the chicken added a sweetness to the dinner. The Taiwanese sausage with garlic was a diabolical combination and hands down my favorite!
I live up the block and have returned to DTLA after 28 years, and the Taiwanese food I know is from Seattle and sometimes traveling via Taipei. Their friend anchovies & peanuts were like the best anywhere & the soup and sandwich very good. The service on Saturday at 3 PM was standout. My interest is more in repeat frequent habit building neighborly spots than passing fad hip spots. Pine & Crane feels good as neighbor: Anthony & Will feel like best neighbors one can have
Parking is difficult, had to drive around the block several times to find a spot. If you go during peak hours, be ready for the cue line to order your food. It was very crowded the night we visited. Seatings are limited so they made us wait outside while they cook our food. Once we were seated and had our first bite, we forgot all about the long wait and the slow service. Very delicious and comforting food for the soul. I recommend the Beef Roll, Beef Noodle soup, Dan Dan Noodles, and Three Cup Chicken. Good portions. Very relax ambience. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended!
A casual dining spot for those who seek to have very authentic Taiwanese food. I never knew this area was so trending even on Thursday night. There was a long line, but people got seated pretty fast. The food came out fast too( almost like any fast food chains). The quality of food was on another level tho. It was like eating mom’s food, very comforting, warm, and tasty! I added the black vinegar on almost every bite throughout the meal and I was glad to discover a new seasoning. So good with everything. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and stylish! (Everyone looked so cool 😎) wanna come back and try other dishes soon:)
If you are looking for an authentic Taiwanese food, this might not be the best option for you. However, if you are looking for a place to introduce your (our) hometown food to anyone from different backgrounds, I think Pine and Crane has done a really good job of tailoring the flavors of the dishes to suit everyone’s tastes. We love the soup of the beef noodles especially!
Came here at peak dinner hour on a Friday night. There was about a 20 person line but it moves fast. You order first then are seated. Service is super friendly. There’s a great selection of beer and drinks specifically Taiwanese that I haven’t seen any where else. Each dish is about $10-15 which isn’t bad. The pan fried pork buns are crisp at the bottom but still soft and pillowy on the top and have a juicy flavorful filling. My faves though were probably the beef roll and the beef noodle soup which is so comforting on a cold day. Next time I definitely want to try the scallion pancake.

I wish I took photos because I will be returning. I went during busy hours which was my mistake but it was worth the wait. Their chicken plate was my favorite on the menu.
So delicious and at a reasonable price! Everything I had was a 10/10 and the staff was friendly!

For me, there are three things that define Taiwanese cuisine. Affordable. Delicious. Pine and Crane get- oh wait, that was only two. Forget it. Pine and Crane gets 1.75 of these right. Having lived in Taiwan for a year, P&C hits the mark on several dishes that make me feel like I’m back on that whimsical little island while at the same time reminding me that I’m actually in America. Here’s my breakdown. Restaurant/ambiance: Expect a long wait but a quick and efficient one. You’ll mostly be waiting in line surrounded by your Silverlake hipsters. As you transition from outdoors into the restaurant, you are immersed in what feels like a bombastic mix of a Taipei storefront and a typical LA restaurant. That being said, I appreciated the lively energy of a packed house, the subtle Taiwanese imports surrounding you, and the balance between communal dining tables and private parties of two. Also, you can have drinks while you wait for a table which is nice. 5/5 Three cup chicken: When I was eating this, I could have sworn I was eating lunch at the local bento place I frequented whilst I was living in Taiwan. P&C really hits the mark with this one. Moist chunks of chicken, a sauce simple as it should be, and some added chili peppers that differentiate this 三杯雞from the rest. 5/5 Dan dan noodles: Listen… I make this meal at home about three times a week. This one made me realize how bad mine actually is. Generous portion. If you want to share it with someone, don’t. Get your own. Cause you’ll wish you had. 5/5 Beef wrap: P&C staff, if you’re reading this, I would like to remind you that this is supposed to be 牛肉捲餅, not 牛肉tortilla. That sort of flakey, puff pastry texture you get on a typical beef roll in Taiwan was completely missing here. Although the beef, cucumbers, and sauce inside weren’t too bad, the tortilla-like wrap once again reminded me that I am in America. 2.5/5 Pork potstickers: They’re potstickers. 3/5 It’s not easy finding good Taiwanese cuisine in the city or even in California for that matter. Pine and Crane was a not-so-hidden hidden gem. Sure, it’s trendy. Sometimes, overcrowded. While not the most “authentic” Taiwanese food experience, it’s affordable and some of the bites that you’ll have here will definitely give you a glimpse of what it’s really like to eat in Taiwan. Highly recommend. 4/5
A fun little place to grab some food. And have a quick meal. The staff were nice and helpful and welcoming. My only thought is that the food is a bit overpriced For what I guess I would say is just above average food. However, it was fresh . Then again this is La so maybe my expectations were off
If you want to try this place, be prepared to possibly wait. My party and I were thankfully able to beat the rush by getting there around 5:30 on a Saturday night. When we left the line was out the door. Overall the food is good. Not great, especially if you’ve wait for ever to eat. I ordered the beef noodle soup. It was good but I felt like it was missing something. It wasn’t as flavorful as I would have hoped. I gave 4 starts because the staff is very kind and attentive. I just wish their food had lived up to the hype.
For a trendy take on Taiwanese food, I love Pine and Crane! Their panfried pork buns always deliver, as well as the beef roll and scallion pancake. Also, their cold appetizers -- the bean curd noodles, wood ear mushroom, and seaweed salad -- are immensely underrated. I specifically love Silverlake's flow and intimate environment but will say that the wait time is long (an hour plus) during rush hours. Otherwise, service has always been great so will definitely be back!
I was actually pleasantly surprised. As someone who has been to Taiwan several times and eaten Taiwanese food a lot I can say that this place is pretty good. We came on a Saturday night at 5pm and it was already mostly filled. You go in and order first, then get seated by the host. We ordered the Dan Dan mien $12, minced pork rice $10.50, beef roll $10 and the seaweed cold dish $4.75. Everything was pretty reasonably priced especially for Silverlake. I love the ambiance very cozy eclectic feel. The beef rolls were less greasy and felt fresher because of the cucumber that they put in it. The Dan Dan mien was a little too saucy with not enough spice but if you put some of the chili oil it’s perfect. And the minced pork rice is the perfect saucy fatty deliciousness. The egg is perfectly seasoned with some pickled radish on top. I would definitely stop by again if I’m in the area.

This would have probably been a 4 star experience if not for the wait. To start: the food was good. The eggplant and chicken were well cooked and not too overpowering, the pork belly exceeded expectations but was over sauced. The Dan Dan noodles were watery and bland. I thought the bamboo shoots were also not good. The atmosphere was very loud due to a lot of people in a small space, authentic Asian dining experience. The wait: we waited 50+ minutes on Wednesday at 7pm, the service team was friendly but personally I didn’t think the food justified the long wait.

Left disappointed. Pine & Crane's food is INCREDIBLY far from "Taiwanese" food. Went on Sunday a little after it open very short wait of 5-10 minutes at most. Food came out pretty fast. The vibe is overall pretty great so that's where I'll give star. We ordered the ice tea, eastern tea, beef roll, shrimp wonton, and pork belly. The pork belly may taste good at initial bite cause of the sauce but it gets dry. The tofu is also a bit overcooked, still edible. The shrimp wonton soup was HEAVY in white pepper, and the shrimp wonton was pretty bland - if they dial back on the white pepper, let the other flavors (if any) come through and improve on the shrimp wonton taste I think it will improve a lot. This felt like a $1.50 budget meal. If a food establishment messes up wonton soup, that's really not a good sign. The eastern tea wasn't anything remarkable. The Beef roll is probably the only somewhat decent one in taste. While there was barely any beef and mostly vegetables, the sauce carried this dish HARD (look at pictures for cross section). The ice tea was somewhat cute looking and taste like what you would expect - frankly not that great either. Seating style: Either bench or individual chairs. Great for small and medium size groups. Service: 4/5; they do their best to be considerate. Nothing really noteworthy. Food quality: 3/5; either dry or overpowered or lack of flavor. Noise level: Medium to high; it will depend on who's around you. Parking: Yes; street parking only Bathroom: Yes; has handicap rail. There's 2 of them.
