Opinions de Sapp Coffee Shop Los Angeles
This place is a Thai Town institution. My parents have been coming here since they immigrated to the US in the 80s. Nowadays most Thais of that generation have moved off to the SGV or San Fernando suburbs. Coming here is like going back to the Thai town of the 90s, complete with photos of King Rama IX. It looks like it’s under new-ish management. They’re known for their boat noodles. I recently went and was impressed that it’s still delicious. The broth is savory, deep and perfectly seasoned, without using sugar or MSG to cut corners. Also they give fried pork cracklings to add a nice crunch and richness. The braised beef is fall-apart and really flavorful as well. Probably the best bowl of Thai boat noodles that you can get in this part of the world. Parking may be difficult as it’s a small lot and street parking is a pain.
We'd been here years ago. Came in today. We started with Pad Thai and it was probably the best in LA! So good. Next we had the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles). These were good and the slight spice (we ordered mild) was enough to light up our mouth. That and the basil were so flavorful. My wife ordered her favorite, the Pad Soon Sen. That and the Morning Glory were very tasty. Overall, great food, friendly staff and a comfortable setting made this an enjoyable meal.
Real Flavors from Thailand! My Isaan heart was bursting eating lunch here. Our meal tasted like the food I eat when I visit my family in Thailand. The service was very friendly and quick. Portions were just right. This is one of my must eats when I visit LA. Sapp Sapp!!
Words can’t describe how much I love this place…. I moved out of CA few years ago and I swear I come back to LA just to eat here. Everything taste authentic and delicious and life changing 😝. Best Boat noodle for sure!
We enjoyed the following dishes: Tamarind & Garlic Wings Wings were meaty and the tamarind sauce adds even more flavor! Kra Pao Fried Rice Simple yet satisfying, the basil seals the deal Boat Noodle Everything Flavorful broth and generous with the meats/animal parts Jade Noodles Dry noods are my fave, these are yummy spinach noodles with lots of toppings Mango Sticky Rice Classic and most favorite Thai dessert, mango was so sweet, and ask for crushed peanuts to sprinkle on!
Loved the boat noodles here. It seemed to be just as good as the ones in Thailand, especially the mixed bowl. The steak piece in the mixed bowl is especially tender. Wish the crispy pork skin was refried, it seemed a little stale. The fried soft shell crab was also wonderful, one of the best ones that we've had. Lightly battered and very airy. The stir fried morning glory was also great. Service was friendly. The atmosphere was lively.
I am Thai and I gotta say this place has the most authentic (and delicious) Thai food in the area. They’re called coffee shop but it’s nothing to do with cafe-like shop. This is a real Thai restaurant, run by Thai people. The dishes I ordered tasted like what they were in Thailand. The drinks are moderate sweet, which is exactly what I needed!! Servers are really nice. They played 2000s Thai songs. Great place for gatherings or solo dining! Price was great too! Totally recommend!
Home sweet home, tasty like restaurants in Bangkok everything is delicious. Waiters were smiling and nice even the people who eat here were smiling and happy. I love the atmosphere
Phenomenal food + inviting atmosphere I had the Boat Noodle with everything This was the perfect blend of savory and refreshing. The blood base broth is rich and hearty, with a clean vinegar finished complemented by an assortment of offals and tender sirloin strips. Combined with the slight chew of the rice noodles, this dish offers the best blend of spicy, sour, and richness Imagine a blend of bùn bò Huế and dinuguan
Can’t believe this was only my first time trying Sapp! I tried the Boat Noodle Everything and it was so rich and hearty. I also tried the Jade Noodles. Service was quick and friendly!
This is Hollywood’s Original Thai spot! Even though “Coffee Shop” is in their name, they only coffee they have there is Thai Iced Coffee. It’s an Undiscovered Gem you should know about! First thing is first, Parking is a bit small, so if you need to, there should be some street parking across the street. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, but that typically means the food will be good! Everyone was very friendly! They made sure that everything came out okay! Made sure that our water was always full, they do a fantastic job! Food and Drink: 🥢Boat Noodle Everything: It’s like pho, but with a richer broth. I’m not one for tripe or tendon, but everything together was delicious! It was a very comforting dish to start the meal with! 🥢Kra Pao Fried Rice: We had ours with chicken, and this must be my favorite Thai fried rice. With the bit of spice, it was delicious. After adding the squeeze of lime juice, it elevated the dish to a whole other level! 🥢Tamarind and Garlic Wings: My favorite thing ever. The wings were super crispy, the flavors of the tamarind and garlic all throughout, plus the fried basil on top of that to give it that extra essence just tops it all off! 🥢Sticky Rice: Most of the time, when I get sticky rice, I think of it as something of a dessert, Sapp proved me wrong. It was delicious and having that pared with either the boat noodle or the Tamarind and Garlic Wings was great. 🥢Mango Sticky Rice: I love the fact that there are two different types of rice here. Plus topped everything off with condensed coconut milk. The rice had a mochi like texture. The mango is a honey type mango, so you can be sure it’s a deliciously sweet mango! 🥢Thai Tea: You can tell this whole thing was made in house. It’s creamy, the tea was perfect. I need to try the Thai Iced Coffee next time! There are a couple of menu items that I did order to go that I didn't get pictures of! 🥢Che Bo Trio: Ohh man, this was a treat! BBQ Pork, Crispy Pork, and Roasted Duck all on top of rice! Then you get the sauces to complement the meats. I enjoyed the crispiness of the crispy pork, and the flavors of the BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck. 🥢Pad Thai: This was a very light and comforting dish overall. It was full of flavor, wasn’t oily at all. And had to give the dish that hit of lime juice to marry the flavors together. Very much a favorite Pad Thai dish! This place is amazing! Also got to appreciate the fact that they were the first Thai employer of Alternative Culture! And they have the Oldest Generational Ownership! Check it out if you can!
I hate driving to LA, but when I do, I had to visit Hollywood's original Thai joint. Parking: Parking will be difficult! They're located in a small plaza with very limited parking, but there is metered parking. We just happen to be blessed with a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. Environment/Ambiance: Walking in, we were greeted by the waitress, asked how many were in our party, and seated. We arrived right after their lunch rush around 5pm, so we had the place to ourselves for a bit. Around 6-7pm, the dinner rush came in. I would describe the inside mid-sized with good amount of seating. It's definitely a traditional restaurant; we noticed the details of the plates and utensils. And yes, there is one bathroom. Service: We had the honor of meeting a few of the owners, Peter and Allen. Everyone was very welcoming, nice, and funny. After placing our orders, throughput was under 10 minutes. Food & Drinks: 1) Tamarind Marinated Wings - We started off with these as appetizers. I was very impressed with these because they tasted exactly like my GIL's when she made them. To eat these wings, my bf taught me to rip off pieces of chicken, grab some sticky rice, roll it into a ball, and dip both of them into the jaew sauce. So delicious! 10/10 2) Som Tham Lao (fermented papaya salad with Thai herbs and chili) - Since my bf and I been together, his aunt always made me papaya salad, so I had to try this for myself. I ordered this dish mild, and wow was it spicy. If your spice tolerance is low, I recommend anything less than mild lol. As you can tell, Thai foods can be spicy. The servers always ask what spice level you prefer. I really liked this dish though! Other than the spiciness, it tasted exactly like my bf's aunt's! 9/10 3) Boat Noodle Everything (signature boat broth with tendon, liver, beef, tripe, stewed beef, and beef balls topped with chicharons) - I looove this noodle dish! So much flavors from the meats and broth. They were very generous with the meats. 10/10 4) Jade Noodles (spinach egg noodle with BBQ pork, roast duck, crab meat served with sugar, ground peanuts and chili powder) - The servers taught me to quickly mix everything. If you let it sit for too long, the noodles will be stuck in its shape. These noodles were surprisingly not as spicy as I thought (but you can always adjust). The color of the noodles were so pretty and tasted even better. The meats paired well with the spinach noodles. 9/10 5) Mango Sticky Rice (seasonal) - Dessert time! This is my absolute favorite Thai dessert! The mango was sweet; not sour. Half the sticky rice was white, and the other half was blue. The server explained the color of the blue rice was extracted from a certain type of flower. And the coconut cream wasn't too overwhelming; perfect amount. 10/10 6) Pandan Juice - This drink was recommended to me by the owner. I thought this was very refreshing. The only Pandan I've ever had is Pandan milk tea, so I didn't have anything to compare it to lol. 8/10 7) Thai Tea - What's a Thai spot without Thai tea? This definitely tasted authentic. They mix the tea with ice (not blended). The ratio of tea to half&half was equal amounts. Wasn't too sweet for me, but you can always adjust sweetness level. 9/10 Pricing: Prices are $$ modern. Each dish can feed 1-2 persons if you share. I feel it's worth its authenticity.

A lot of authentic options. Was also surprised by the jade noodles, very unique flavor profile.

This is the most authentic, fresh, balanced and full flavored Thai I have ever had. We got here early in the day on a Monday and spoke with one of the owners for a while she told us the history of the restaurant which has been in her husband’s family for over 50 years. She was so helpful in explaining the menu and answering any questions we had. Thank you Jane! We got the jade noodles and number 41 (I forget the name, it’s like a more authentic pad Thai).
Exceeded expectations. They're known for their noodles... okay. We got Boat Noodle Everything #3 spicy and Phad Thai Noodles #4 spicy. It was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised. Recommend. Would go back.
Best Thai food I've had in years. Pad thai with chicken medium spicy is a must try giving enough to share. Every thing was delicious. Family photos enhance the experience. Waitress was super sweet!
I dream of the roast duck noodle soup. Such good broth and warming spices. Amazing flavor. Everything in the bowl is edible. I want to eat it all in one sitting, but it's large, so I try to convince myself to save leftovers so I could enjoy it a second time, but usually I just eat the whole thing in one go. And then sometimes I order it a second time later in the same week. I just always want that duck noodle soup broth. And the morning glory is a good side dish along with the soup.

My favorite Thai food spot in LA! Everything is very authentic & spicy with plentiful portions. This place is no frills & has a very welcoming atmosphere. Customer service is amazing & the Thai tea is creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. I definitely recommend if you're visiting Thai Town.

Love this place. I pop in here every time I come down to LA to visit family and have been making a visit for 3-4 years now. The food is amazing. I always get the Jade Noodle Salad. The boat noodles are impecable, and we also had the shrimp salad which was beyond belief.
Such a tasty spot! The pad thai and the soft shelled crab was delicious. The drunken noodles wasn’t my favorite though. Their delivery is also great. Food tastes great there and at home
Great thai spot! Went with my partner and got a Kra Pao Fried Rice and the Jade noodles. Both were fantastic but the Kra Pao was definitely the standout dish of the two. Id definitely order from here again!!

Came here for the famous boat noodle soup that everyone had raved about, and I was not disappointed! Full of complex flavors, appropriately sweet, salty, sour and spicy (my favorite 4S), this boat noodle got it all. The service was quick and friendly, and the place is modern and airy. Can't wait to try the other dishes :-)

Food was decent. Drunken noodle was pretty good. Good level of spice. Disappointed in boat noodle since it was my favorite and the dish that I ordered. The broth was flavorful but it wasn't like traditional broth. It tasted more like they used pho broth as a base or pressure cooked the broth with the meat. It was quite oily. Thai iced coffee was really good. Strong bold flavor just like how it made in Thailand. Lemongrass drink was way too sweet for me. Didn't appreciate our waitress who stopped our mid conversation asked us to pay for the bill immediately and asked us to pay tips in cash without asking how was our meal once or whether we finished with our meal which we werent. Asked for receipt never gotten one had to ask another waitress. Heard her mentioning to her worker that she didn't want to give us a receipt, like why?
