Opinions de Trejo‘s Tacos Los Angeles
Being from Chicagoland, I was curious about this place if it was hype or legit good food. I'm a Danny Trejo fan, so this place was a destination for me. What I can tell you is the food was outstanding. I had the two taco dinner and ordered the beef barbacoa and mushroom asada. While the beef barbacoa was a signature item (had Danny's face next to it😄), the mushroom asada blew me away. I can't remember ever seeing mushrooms on a taco menu, so I had to try. Absolutely phenomenal. The beans and rice that came with the meal were good, but nothing overly special. Salsas were also good but not necessarily as memorable as the tacos. Another pleasant surprise was the beer. I had the Trejo's Cerveca, which is a Mexican style lager. It was similar to Corona and the perfect compliment to the tacos. Get it. Loved the food here. Next time I'm in LA I'll be back. 4 stars for service/atmosphere but not a complaint, just tough to get 5 stars on such a busy, noisy street when most of the seating is outside. Great place, great food. Go, you won't be disappointed.
We were out early so we beat the crowd. Nice tables outside, good music playing. Delicious food! Read his book, so I had to visit. Didn’t get a picture of our bowls… ate them too fast.
Delicious. Got the Carnitas, Carne Asada and Fish tacos. Absolutely wonderful. Large size tacos, reasonable prices. I hear Danny Trejo comes by occasionally.
Finally tried LA tacos here. I got the 3 vegan taco options, mushroom, jackfruit, and cauliflower. I enjoyed all 3 but the jackfruit was my favorite. It was a flavor bomb 🔥. They all had a unique flavor. I would highly recommend tr try one the trio. I also got a side of beans. They were “ok”, not tender or tasty enough for my preferences but I did finish them all.
Definitely a great place to eat different flavor tacos. I ordered the 2 taco combo plate which i pucked the chicken tinga taco and the mushroom asada taco. Both were very good! I even ordered the jackfruit taco. That one you definitely have to eat it right away or it can get soggy quick. Bit it was worth it. Their frozen margarita sure has a kick! Lol 🤪 Their beans were pretty good. I liked tue combination of the pinto and black beans together. The rice did taste a bit on the dry side to me but to each their own. Overall the experience was awesome! Definitely worth a visit.
🔥🌮 I was blown away at the flavors at Trejo’s Tacos!! Honestly almost shed a tear when I had the Barbacoa Burrito! Haven’t tasted that kind of shredded meat since my mom died! It brought me back to my childhood in my mom’s kitchen!! OMG so good. Came back the next day (today, Taco Tuesday) and had the Fried Fish taco and the Barbacoa taco!!! Threw in a quesadilla as well and topped it off with a Trejo Cerveza!! YOLO baby!!!
Trejo’s Tacos offers a fun and unique spot for taco lovers in Los Angeles, blending inventive Mexican flavors with a cool, laid-back vibe. The menu features a wide variety of options, including popular choices like the **brisket taco**, **cauliflower taco**, **carnitas taco**, and even vegan and gluten-free selections. The food is generally flavorful, with dishes like the pollo frito quesadilla and surf & turf burrito standing out for their taste and portion size. The signature Trejo Original Mild Sauce is a highlight and can elevate the meal significantly. The restaurant is on the smaller side, with limited seating both indoors and on the patio, but the ambiance is relaxed and the decor reflects Danny Trejo’s personality. Service is typically fast and friendly, and there’s a small parking lot available, which is a plus in this area. Overall, Trejo’s Tacos is worth a visit for the experience, especially if you’re a fan of Danny Trejo or looking for a modern twist on classic tacos. Just be prepared for LA prices and a casual, sometimes bustling atmosphere.
I came here and skeptical of the food, thinking that it can't be that great, and it would be overly priced due to it being a Hollywood thing, however to my surprise the staff was great, very friendly. The food was so delicious, some of the best nachos and tacos I've ever had. We went yesterday, and it was so good I had to go back today. The buy one get one free tacos on Tuesday made it worth it.
Yesterday I went for the first time to this place and everything was more than satisfactory. It was Taco Tuesday and I tried all the options on the menu. All of them are good, I recommend the shrimp. I tried two beers, the IPA is my favorite. To close I ordered a quesadilla and I can tell you that it is one of the best I have ever tasted. The whole experience is worth repeating.
The store was clean and the staff was friendly. The burrito I got was massive and full of meat and flavor. I think the only reason I am eating it only a 4 is because I think I would of liked it to have sour cream. Such a basic small thing and is entirely my own personal preference but I feel it would have been perfect if it had some.
We’re big fans of Danny Trejo, so when we visited LA, we knew we had to try one of his restaurants. This isn’t your typical greasy taqueria. The food tasted noticeably lighter and healthier. We ordered the Baja fish tacos, a steak asada burrito, street corn, and horchata. Everything tasted good overall, though it felt like it needed just a bit more seasoning to really shine. I found myself adding a little salt or mixing in avocado from the chips or street corn to bring the flavors together. The staff was friendly and helpful, answering our questions without issue. My only real disappointment was the limited selection of Danny Trejo merchandise. I was hoping for a t-shirt, but they only had long sleeves available, so I ended up grabbing a mug instead. All in all, we’re glad we gave it a try and would definitely visit again on our next trip to LA!
We stopped by while we were on vacation to check out Trejos Tacos to see if it was worth the hype we had heard about. This location in particular was a little small but we managed to get a parking spot & find two open tables for our group to sit down at. I feel like a few of the food items are a bit overpriced. The cheese quesadilla was a bit plan, could have used a bit more flavor. But I really enjoyed the beef barbacoa quesadilla & it was very filling. My husband mostly liked both tacos he tried, could have used slightly more flavor to the one with pineapple. The nachos were good, I think it would be even better if they had a secondary option that came with meat on the nachos. Service was quick, the inside & outside was tidy and clean as were the bathrooms.
I went in the middle of the day, the atmosphere was none. The location was dead empty. The service was ok. The steak tacos combo comes with 2 Tacos and extra small cup of rice and beans. The portion of food (2 tacos and side) and a drink was "over priced" at $27 in my opinion. The tacos were delicious, but I would think twice about going again for that small meal vs. high price ratio. The outdoor music is high volume.
I use to love this place, but today was just a horrible experience. I ordered a Surf & Turf burrito that had no shrimp & no flavor. I also ordered Asada burrito that was too greasy & no flavor. I can't believe how horrible the food was. I will have to travel a lil farther to the other location cause this 1 is not it
I drove from Bakersfield to Los Angeles to try this place because of all the hype, and it was honestly a big disappointment. The menu advertises a 2-taco combo plate for $17, but that price is misleading. When I ordered, the cashier explained that with the combo you can pick any meat from the meat section. At no point was it explained that there would be additional charges depending on which protein you choose. There was no clear disclosure that certain meats would cost extra on top of the $17 combo price. After ordering, we were charged additional fees per taco: carne asada was $1.50 extra, blackened salmon was $1.50 extra, and Baja fish was $1.00 extra. Once those charges are added, the combo is not actually $17, which feels misleading given how it was explained at the register. My boyfriend and I both ordered the same 2-taco combo plates. We also each ordered a horchata, which was $5.50 for a very small cup — about the size of, or smaller than, a Starbucks grande. Refills were not free and cost $3 extra. Our total came out to $55.44, which is shocking for two taco plates and drinks. The food itself didn’t justify the price. The rice and beans were served in a tiny silver cup and were hard, like they had been sitting too long. The plate came with a few paper-thin radish slices you could almost see through, and two dried-out lime slices. Overall, the sides and presentation felt like end-of-the-day leftovers rather than a freshly prepared meal. The carne asada taco was especially disappointing. The pieces of meat were very small and somewhat hard, and we could barely taste the meat itself. Most of what we tasted was the cabbage and dressing on top, which completely overpowered the taco. For an extra charge, I expected the meat to actually stand out, but it didn’t. The space is also very small, with very limited seating. Most of the seating is outside, and it didn’t feel “upscale” like it’s portrayed online. For the price, I could have gotten much better tacos from a taco truck, with better flavor, better sides, and a larger horchata for less money. Overall, this place feels way overpriced, and the lack of clear communication about extra charges made the experience even more disappointing. I wanted to like it, but I wouldn’t come back.
Food was way over priced, one of the things we ordered was the two chicken taquitos for $10. It didn’t taste bad but was not at all anything like taquitos I have ever ordered from a restaurant. The presentation was terrible, no sauce beyond the chipotle sauce cup and avocado sauce cup, and there was no cotija as described in the menu. The two spicy shrimp tacos were tiny and cost $13. The “plain fried chicken taco was basically a few chunks of deep fried chick on a single lettuce leaf. The only thing anywhere near acceptable was the burrito but that is a stretch. Just overall super disappointing given the number of reviews it received.
I was expecting a Mexican restaurant but got something worst than a taco bell. The cashier was terrible and wanted to charge $4 for adding cheese to a taco. No Mexican music playing. Not a Mexican restaurant. Over priced food small portions. Tea has no refills. Water has lemon in it. No lemonade what Mexican restaurant doesn't have lemonade. $7 a piece tacos.
I had been wanting to go there for a while and finally had a chance. I went there early right after opening, and there's nowhere to park walked in and the server told us to step outside and order she said it was cafe style, looked at the menu and decided to try a few different tacos, the first one was the mushroom asada to my surprise this was really good and the only one I liked, the only good thing about the Carnitas taco was the pineapple, the beef barbacoa taco was the worst one, looked like they just boiled some meat and threw some ketchup in it to give it some color. The Baja fish taco didn't taste like fish at all, also tried the fried chicken bowl and the chicken is heavily breaded. The pork carnitas taquitos were burnt. The grande margarita is served on a regular glass but tastes more like a lemonade.

Yes, that Trejo – Danny Trejo. His spot isn't just a celebrity gimmick; it's serving up some genuinely interesting and often surprisingly lighter takes on classic Mexican fare. What really stands out here is the variety, especially if you're into plant-based options.
