Opinions de Uncle John's Cafe Los Angeles
Such a great restaurant with wonderful food. I got the hash with rice and potatoes and wish I had a second stomach to eat another one. Vibe was great. People were nice.
Had a great experience at Uncle John’s in Los Angeles! The food was hearty, flavorful, and really hit the spot. Big love to the pork chop and the steak — both were cooked perfectly, tender, and packed with flavor. The atmosphere felt welcoming and comfortable, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy a satisfying meal. Definitely a solid spot when you’re craving something classic and delicious.
Uncle John’s has become one of my favorite local spots. I love that they now offer Asian fusion dishes, and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. The crispy pork is a must-order — perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful, and so satisfying. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the service always makes you feel taken care of. If you’re in the area and craving comfort food with an Asian twist, definitely check Uncle John’s out.
The interior of Uncle John's embraces a nostalgic diner-meets-rustic-kitchen aesthetic. Think warm wood tones, comfortable booths, and walls adorned with local art or vintage photographs. The lighting is soft and welcoming, particularly in the mornings, making it an excellent spot for a quiet breakfast or catching up with a friend over coffee. While the cafe can get busy—especially during weekend brunch rushes—the noise level remains pleasant. It manages to maintain a lively buzz without being overwhelming, which speaks volumes about its steady, loyal clientele. It’s casual, comfortable, and immediately puts you at ease.
WOW!!! Such delicious food here at this establishment. I was so happy to finally visit Uncle John’s cafe during my recent trip. I had a feast including the steak and eggs alongside hash browns and toast as well as an ice Thai tea (patrons have the option to add boba, but i personally just wanted the tea as is). Let me tell you- the chili oil they make in house is WELL worth the visit alone! The two who served me were incredibly friendly! I will be coming back once more in the future eager to try more items off of their menu.
Spicy Pork Chops are a MUST. I’ve gone here over 50 times by now since I worked so close but man I never got tired of it. Very reasonable prices for DTLA paired with absolutely massive portions on the plate. They also have a cheaper value menu that rotates every day but has gotten a bit pricier since they switched locations. I would choose Uncle Johns over ANY other lunch spot downtown any day.
Everybody say it with me, “WE LOVE UNCLE JOHNS”! Seriously the service here is always great, food comes out fast and delicious. Fun menu items because of the chinese and American influence. Great stuff. I got the Western omelette and hash browns while my boyfriend got the spicy pork chop. Both yummy. Whole menu is available all day!
The whole experience was AMAZING!! I visited here for the first time. As soon as I waked in, I recognized one worker who’s brighten up the space and environment so positively and lively. She answers all my questions and gave me recommendations so friendly. then also while eating she checked up on me and my friend in the best frequency with great energy. also even recognized details and asked if I want steak sauce and such. She brightens your day! So I asked her name and asked if I take a picture of her. and I’m posting this here. Thank you Akira for sharing your amazing energy! AND THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD TOO!!!! reasonable price and great food!!
Cool spot downtown with a mixed menu of Chinese and American favorites. I came here for lunch to try their burger. The burger was perfect with a nice slice of tomato and thin crispy fries. The vibe is laid back but friendly and I like the dual-level layout. I would get it again but next time probably go for the spicy pork chops.
BLUF: Friendly service, really good food, clean facility, great location. Stopped in for early lunch/late breakfast. Our hotel was across the street. The servers were incredibly friendly and had recommendations not just for dishes, but also what kind of sauces will go well with them. Everything was delicious. I had the Spicy Pork Chops and my wife had the Lemongrass Grilled Pork Chops. If you're staying anywhere within a .5mi walking distance (or more even) stop by and try this place out. We were really hungry, so I apologize for photos of food that's already been dug in to... Let that be the message, it was too good to wait.
I was passing by and saw that it had a high rating on Google. Went in to great customer service and excellent food. I started with their Thai tea with boba, I had their egg rolls(shrimp & pork), pork chops with rice and a fried egg. The Thai tea was delicious and the egg rolls were phenomenal. Nice and crispy with a solid dipping sauce. The pork chops were seasoned perfectly with a nice sweetness and the egg was a nice edition. I wish it had fried rice instead but overall it was a solid lunch. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items.
This place has pretty solid breakfast for the price. I ordered steak and eggs with fried rice. The steak was flavorful and the eggs cooked wonderfully. Fried rice was a bit bland, but plenty of condiments/seasoning were available. Portions were very generous! Giving a lower rating in atmosphere because it started to smell like cigarette smoke while I was eating. They were loading in food through the front door, but one of the employees was smoking directly outside the front door. Another customer actually went to the counter to ask for a refund and left because of the cigarette smoke entering the restaurant. I mentioned this to the employee smoking, but she was rather unapologetic.
A restaurant that has been around 60 years - it must be that good! It is the epitome of identity confused cuisine greasy spoon spot - a Chinese restaurant serving American diner style food … and Chinese food .. and Vietnamese food. 😂 Spicy Pork Chop - They mentioned that their spicy pork chop is what they are known for. I got that one off the menu, for $17 the serving is generous. 5 large cuts of pork chops, deep friend. I opted for the friend rice. My verdict- it is a decent pork chop, but if you are expecting SGV style Asian food — it is not. It is Chinese food for white person palate. It is not bad. Seriously. Just a different taste profile as you’ll find in Asian Chinese food. The fried rice to me is quite terrible. It is soy sauce rice to me. Don’t order that. Steak and Eggs The second most popular item on menu is the steak and eggs. If anything else this is their best dish. I conclude that the restaurant is a better American food diner than Chinese food. The steak was quite generous sized. Well seasoned. It satisfies that craving for that true blue hearty protein rich American breakfast. The hash brown was decent. I hope it was toasted crispier, but still good.
Place was busy so I expected the food to be a little better. Food arrived relatively quickly in heaping portions - however it was all dry and bland. Fried rice was greasy yet flavorless. Added the chilli oil as recommended, then it became spicy and greasy. Not great at all. Even though I was super hungry going in, I couldn't bring myself to eat it all. Thank God for the toast for helping me feel a bit more full. The Vietnamese iced coffee was decent. Service was great, very friendly staff.
