Ok so let's just clear this up. Your in for a wait lol butttttt it's so worth it! I had shrimp and grits, pancakes and a vanilla bean latte. All three were 🔥 🔥. The shrimp and grits were perfect my latte perfect and pancakes perfect even after that long a** wait lol I'll definitely be back to try everything else!!
Their Green Dragon Latte (matcha) is VERY delicious! The right amount of sweetness and matcha taste. I tried this Nutella croissant muffin type thing - it would have been insanely good if it was warmed up but still, yum. I also tried their sweet cream pancakes with maple syrup + blueberries and wow! So fluffy and delicious! I will be coming back! Support Black Owned Businesses!
I found this place on a whim because I searched "black-owned bakery" in the yelp search. It happened to be 3 minutes from where I was in traffic. I drive by here when taking my daughter to school and never noticed it. Excellent customer service. It was my first time there and the young lady didn't shy away from giving recommendations. I ended up going with the Bayou Burrito, which is made is shrimp, bell peppers and onions, along with the standard egg and potatoes. I was in a greedy mood so I had turkey bacon added to mine. It was amazing. While waiting, I noticed they had a matcha drink called Green Dragon. It was similar to the green tea frap I get from Starbucks.
I walked in and heard "Just Kickin It" by Xscape playing and I knew I was in the right place! Cool vibes, amazing menu...you just have to go. We had the veggie grits (I'm from the south and I have never had grits with veggies!), sweet cream pancakes with berries and one of the breakfast sandwiches. Everything was so good. I had no problem finding a meter to park on the street. I truly want to try everything on the menu.
I saw the reviews on Google and figured we I would take my boyfriend here for day date then somewhere else after , he loved it and so did I ! I am glad we came we both shared the lobster sandwich and some breakfast sandwich and two lattes so delicious! I highly recommend coming here I thought that there would be a long line but there wasn’t and we got our food in a timely manner and ate outside. Parking was easy to find and the service was good. I’ll be back to try other things in the menu !
This place never disappoints me. I've had shrimp and grits at some pretty high-end places. I gotta say that Undergrind really knows what they are doing here. The grits are smooth, the shrimp are fresh and cooked to perfection. The flavors are just unreal! You have got to try this is you are a shrimp lover like me. DELICIOUS!!!
Im shocked a "cafe" has a kitchen this good. Ive gotten grits, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, etc and it was delicious. Not "hipster delicious", actual deliciousness lol. Prices are reasonable. Black owned. Friendly. Outdoor seating. Cant speak for the coffee because I dont drink it but will definitely stop by whenever I get a breakfast craving.
Absolute GOAT for breakfast, lunch, and coffee. Extremely reasonable and I literally go nowhere else. Majority of LA is expensive and mid at best. Undergrind, please keep it local and reasonable!! Y’all are truly top 1% of go-to spots
I’ve only been here once but I’ve been thinking about their lattes & breakfast burrito every day since then. The Lucky Charm latte is picturesque - but it’s also hands down one of the best lattes I’ve ever had. Love the vibes & the fresh ingredients in the food. Will be back as much as possible!
Great vibes here! Super friendly service and lots of cute dogs running around accompanying a steady stream of happy customers. I don't even usually care for coffee but their iced salted caramel latte was amazing. Awesome place!
This is my favorite neighborhood spot and if I could afford it I’d get their coffee every morning! Love all the specialty lattes and the food is actually so good, not just a carbon copy of what you see at every other coffee shop. Only downside is that weekday mornings it’s packed with high school kids but can’t blame them for that!
My favorite place to grab breakfast/brunch + coffee. The prices are sooooo good, the food is incredibly delicious, the latte flavors are fun, and service is friendly and warm. (Also highly recommend the Lucky Charms latte, they come with marshmallows!)
I would like to say “Thank You!” again to the lovely 2 ladies working in the coffee shop this past Saturday 8/24/24! They totally brighten my day that in the beginning wasn’t going too well! I’ve been off work for a year taking care of my Aunt, who had a Stroke and now severe Dementia. It’s been a tough road for me and now she’s declining rapidly. Though I was at Undergrind Coffee picking up a delivery order, they both showered me with compliments that brighten my day! I am much appreciative of those beautiful ladies! I wish you both and the team Amazing success in our community! Sweet Blessings ❣️
Undergrind, I love you! The food here is great and affordable. I don’t spend more than $12 for a plate here. My go to is the Bite Supreme with turkey bacon along with the Veg Out Burrito. As someone who is plant-based, it has great options. Their lattes are delicious and can be served blended! I usually go for the Salted Caramel Latte blended with almond milk. Delicious and community oriented! My go to spot for eating brunch on the weekends and spending quality time with friends.
I accidentally ordered the tuna salad instead of the tuna sandwich, and honestly, it was the best mistake ever! The salad was absolutely delicious so fresh and flavorful that now it’s my go-to. And I can’t leave without getting the Emerald City drink…ugh, it seriously makes my day every single time. Highly recommend both!
The caramel cold brew latte was excellent with a balance of sweetness aroma and taste, with a very good price. I had an avocado toast, I believe is called the goat. It was very good. The young guy at the counter was friendly and courteous. The overall experience was enjoyable.
Amazing Black owned business, delicious food and great service A big plus to their chicken sandwich as the green salsa they use is out of this world One concerned, way too much plastic and single use containers. I wanted to try their coffee but they only have to go cups. That is my only issue, this place is amazing. When I come back, I will be bringing my cup so I can try the coffee.
I had the pleasure of stopping into this awesome neighborhood cafe. When I entered the cafe I was greeted. The menu has breakfast and lunch options and separate menu for hot and cold drinks. They had fresh pastries available for purchase. This a cozy trendy cafe with great eats and drinks. They do accept NFC payments as well as debit card and credit card payments. I enjoyed my tea in an adorable pink and white cup. My breakfast bite supreme was delicious. I was served a proper portion of food and food for the price listed. There is outside setting with umbrellas for shade. This is a good place to work on your laptop. Looking for quick bite? They had it and ready for you in minutes. You can order ahead via their website. There is street parking at the meters. This is a wheelchair accessible cafe. Sit near the window and people watch or the high chairs. Fur babies are welcome outside.
Have made repeating visits to this cafe! Lots of people come for their breakfast/brunch dishes, but I love their coffee. Some of them are more adventurous featuring peanut butter, but my faves are surely their Salted Caramel and Vanilla ones. Kind reminder, their cup sizes are relatively big compared to typical coffee shops; hence I mostly go for their small. Unlike the cup size, the venue is quite small. Nonetheless, that actually doesn't really trouble me as much as the fact that sitting for awhile inside always leaves me with food/kitchen scent (IYKYK). Don't get me wrong, they do serve luscious breakfast and brunch menus, so if the scents don't bother you, ALL GOOD! This place is constantly busy throughout the day, but it's pretty outstanding that they always manage to get the orders ready speedy enough even including the foods.
Went here today for lunch and coffee. Great staff. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We got coffees and food. I got the Tiger latte with coconut and chocolate. Was really very good. My wife got the Scarlett chai latte. Loved it. Spicy chicken wrap was great as well. Would definitely order it again. The music inside was a bit on the loud side, but overall really enjoyed this cafe and will be back
Found this place on DoorDash for a quick lunch on Sunday. How much do we love it? We ordered three times in a week! Food is tastier than some of the fancy southern restaurants we have been to. I also love the store vibe and they have outdoor dining seats with sunbrella. Price was great and no surcharge on DD either! BTW, I believe they are known for their coffee and will try that next time when we dine there. Must-try: shrimp & grits, gumbo, & rich girl.
New favorite cafe! Super friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and reasonably priced food and drinks. Got the break of day breakfast burrito and cinnamon toast crunch latte and both were delicious. Support your local Black-owned businesses!
The food and coffee here is amazing. This place has amazing service too and friendly staff. Easier to order pickup and use the outdoor tables to eat if you wanna save time. A wait of 5-10 mins to get in if you go on the weekends. The vegetarian sandwich and bagels are worth trying.
I love this neighborhood cafe! The drinks are solid, and they have a great selection of creative lattes as well. I have only tried a couple food items, but they are satisfying and large portions. The employees are always fun and friendly, and the atmosphere is cheerful and I always bring along a book or some work to do. It's a great neighborhood shop, I wish we had more like it nearby!
Store line was stretching down the block so I had to stop my car immediately and see what all of the fuss is about... I was very surprised to see a small and homey coffee shop filled with all kinds of goodie's and treats, underground offers a wide variety of baked goods, breakfast and hot drinks I had the dirty chai (highly recommended) and blueberry muffin (enough said). The line flowed quickly and efficiently as is expected from a well known and professional establishment that expects the kind of crowds that underground Cafe handles on a daily basis. A good business is signified by employees who are happy and work efficiently like a Swiss clock, and this is a wonderful business.

Good service and food! Pros: Unique spot loved the decor. Tried the breakfast bite. Delish Lots of drinks to choose front. Good server!! Cons: Busy long lines but still great!!
This is a really good place for coffee and a conversation Bakery items are fresh and delicious Coffee menu has a lot to choose from This place is great to sit at after you've dropped the kids off and you have a little free time to yourself or meeting up with friends The staff is very attentive and very happy to assist with smiles on their faces I recommend the peanut butter cup latte ❣️
Cute place & great vibes. Always decorated for the holidays which I love. Music is good and staff is sweet. I love the coffee and the seasonal drinks are always fun.
The atmosphere was amazing and having a sign that said "she was a fairy" was hilarious! It was a perfect introduction to the establishment. The gentleman who took my order was very professional and helpful. The food was flavorful and well seasoned. Anybody wanting to have some amazing breakfast food stop at this location!
I order delivery from this place once every weekend for breakfast as a treat because I love them so much. The morning melt is so simple but for some reason hits extremely hard. The drinks are good but sweet. The gumbo and Mac are out of this world. Bayou burrito is crazy good but quite filling lol, the pastries are good too. Sometimes I get different pastries than I order or I think they run out and I don’t get them, but honestly it’s no big, I’ve always liked the subs they’ve sent and understand when the food is good it sells out! What I was shockingly not a big fan of was the biscuits and gravy, which is one of my fav foods. Maybe something happened while it sat getting delivered, but the gravy was watery. I also found the veggies and grits very bitter. The shrimp and grits are tasty though! Hash browns huge serving but in my opinion a bit under seasoned, which actually kind of works because I can eat off them for 2-3 breakfasts that I remix them into. Overall, I find the pricing (at least thru UberEats as I’m unsure how this compares to their own prices) extremely reasonable in a refreshingly non-LA way. I really want to come in person some time but will keep being a delivery regular here for my weekly dopamine in the meantime LOL.
The ideal neighborhood spot. I still come here for the breakfast and Chai long after having moved out of the neighborhood. The staff is prompt, friendly, and professional. The shop is cozy but tight, usually open during off hours for tables and chair but breakfast, lunch, and end of school it will be packed though that’s part of the charm. It’s a great and varied menu for breakfast and lunch with southern inspirations. I recommend any lattes (especially the chai) and the burritos, Greek scramble, or avocado toast.

I went a couple of hours after they opened, and it was busy with a line outside the door and teeming with students and other customers. Didn't wait long to order or receive food. There was available seating outside, but not inside. I loved the items I ordered. My only gripe was that the shrimp and grits were the consistency of soup, but the flavor was there. Will return to try other menu items.
Great coffee, and pretty good food too. A nice low-key place for a warm breakfast, despite the limited seating.
So the coffee cold brew is very good no I got my drink very fast which is good but we do order food does take Quite a while if they are busy. But That does make sense. Overall love the ambience the workers are very polite full of energy they almost take espresso shots very friendly now the breakfast burrito very big I got the all American I would give it 7.5 out of 10 but overall experience four out of five if I can give it a 4.5 I would probably do that

I’ve been coming here for close to 10 years. I’m so disappointed by how this business has developed. Prices have gotten so high (they were already high but I went because it’s POC owned “small business”) and not only that—they are breaking CA consumer laws but having CASH PRICE advertised?! I was shocked when I ran my card and it was higher than the sign. Absolutely not legal. I hope the owners see this and fix it. I used to come here to work and get a sandwich and coffee. They’ve removed a lot of the seating, no more free WiFi, used to have local art on the wall—not anymore. Just another small business turning to capitalist greed with bait and switch tactics. So sad. I’ll be looking for another local shop instead.

When I’ve gone previously they’ve been really nice, but one of the staff today got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe she could have used a shot of espresso herself. Took 20 mins to get my drink when ordered ahead of other customers and coffee came out tasting bitter. Anyway, thanks for losing a customer. Friends actually do let friends drinks Starbucks, especially when they have these experiences at businesses.
Food is great but the kitchen is super slow. Took almost 35mim for a burrito when they were not busy at all
Not a place I’d recommend for working in the morning. At 8 a.m. the shop was full of high school students and there was nowhere to sit. Coffee was okay, and I couldn’t find any outlets. Wi-Fi was good, but that’s the only real positive for remote workers. The reason I won’t be returning is the atmosphere created by the staff. The baristas were having extremely loud conversations across the café, including ongoing commentary about women that was pretty disrespectful and uncomfortable to listen to as a customer. It felt unprofessional and made the space feel unwelcoming.
