{review from my last visit in march} I live in WA state and totally crave the shiitake scrambled eggs. so. darn. delicious. perfect eggs, tons of shrooms, and really good crunchy bread. their house salad is awesome too! crisp greens and a very addicting vinaigrette. I’ve also tried one of their seasonal fruit hand pies which was filled with berries & flaky pastry. I love the small outdoor space which is right on a corner. I’m not a local, but I do visit every time I’m in town which is a handful of times a year and I’ve experienced friendly service each time. I can’t speak to how things are going during this covid era but I would still absolutely recommend visiting if you haven’t before.
The best!! place to have a coffee, great sandwiches and let me tell you the bakery goods are pure heaven!! stop playing and stop by!! The people who work there hands down with the good energy and super attentive!! And the love and care they give you! And the food excellent.
Visiting from NYC. This was my second morning picking up breakfast at Valerie. While it's a sort of cafe mostly a pickup and takeaway, the food qualifies as true restaurant level. Every morsel of every bite made me happy! Real French technique of handling food going on in that kitchen. The eggs, moist and fluffy The baked goods; delightful and even the coffee is superb. The people behind the counter clearly love what they're doing with warmth and interest in getting your order exactly right. My breakfast go-to while I'm staying in Echo Park. Many thanks to Valerie Echo Park Karen Hope Moss
My local cafe I love her so much best service best people best vibes
This is the first place I am reviewing as a "Local guide" for LA. I love everything about Valerie. Stand outs are the matcha latte, the amazing quiche (must order with delicious salad!) and the banana nut chocolate bread. Everything is wonderfully prepared and served. Highly recommended for a great breakfast, brunch, Coffee, or lunch!
To die for eggs. And the salad dressing is somehow so perfect. The staff were very conscientious and made amendments without a fuss. I wasn't a fan of the coffee (super strong) but I think most people like it that way. Green tea was excellent.
Its so very dangerous to be living so close to such an amazing spot. A little pricey but what you get in return is well worth it, unbelievable pastries, great salads and an excellent breakfast menu. On top of that its probably got my favorite Gibraltar/Cortado in Echo Park, they use Verve! Check it out, sit on the patio, enjoy a nice tea/coffee and some excellent food = recipe for happiness.
Lovely service and great coffee and breakfast. The outdoor seating did have quite a noticeable amount of flies though. Probably a better option to get takeaway and enjoy at the nearest park.
Great cafe! We liked the crème fraiche scone more than the herb one, but the breakfast hand pie was the standout. Where can you get a light breakfast for $6 in LA anymore! Nowhere! This is the spot!
Valerie is a spot on pastry shop and cafe. The Echo Park location is a great spot to sit and have coffee or brunch. Their baked goods are excellent - mostly French-derived classics but some have slight twists to make them high end. Incredible seasonal pies too!
Awesome little cafe with great food and great staff. After we lost our home in the Eaton fire and ended up in Echo Park, everyone there was so kind and supportive. Can't recommend enough.
Very cute spot. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. I have only had dessert here. I just ordered my birthday cake from the Glendale location. Everything here is so good. Definitely worth checking out.
Love this place! Really nice outdoor seating and lots of good pastries and sandwiches.
I LOVE valerie and order lunch from here on my day off often, but am writing this review for a specific anecdote that occurred today. I ordered some food for pickup to be ready at 12pm, left my place at 11:40 because it usually takes 20 mins. I walked fast, I guess, and showed up at 11:55 without realizing it. When I said I was there for pickup, they told me it would be a few minutes because they had to throw the hand pie in. They apologized and one employee in particular offered me a free coffee or any other drink on the house. It was at this time that I checked my clock and realized I had arrived early and immediately tell them thank you but I do not need a free coffee because I'm the dummy who showed up early!! When the food was ready at 12, the employee had prepared me an iced coffee anyways. So unnecessarily kind and really made my day. I personally recommend the breakfast banh mi sandwich and the vegetarian quiche!!! Hand pies are amazing too. Thank you to the sweet employee who made my day!!! :-)
one of my favorite places to eat in Echo Park! so cute, Valerie holds a special place in my brain. the salmon bahn mi is ❤️🔥 (and worth eating gluten for)
maybe the best basque cheesecake I’ve ever had.
Simply the best in Echo Park! Consistently good! Staff is SO sweet and truly cares about their community. I’ve been going there for a few years and they’ll gift me sweets from time to time. The coffee is always so good and everything on the menu is delicious. Valerie forever!!!!! ❤️
Cashier was very kind and the food was delicious. Service just a bit slow, coffee was fast but I think it took ~15min just to heat up a hand pie, which seemed a bit long especially since it wasn't super busy
Cute little shop right next a good coffee shop, Canyon. It’s a mini mart/sandwich shop with a mini patio for seating and outdoor when it isn’t raining!! Sandwich was really good! Bread was soft to chew on and not hard like other baguette based sandwich is. Texture to taste is perfect! Not super saucy!! The prosciutto sandwich had radish in it but it tasted so good with the sandwich which I didn’t expect. Gonna come back to try their Ham & Jam sandwich that caught my eye at first!!
gorgeous cappuccino, gorgeous coffee crunch cake! Holy moly was that delicious. I am not supposed to eat wheat, but I popped some allergy pills for that beauty 😂. Really friendly staff, and lovely shaded patio that's perfect for an LA spring day. The place was really crowded but I was able to slip into a corner bench spot and watch the world go by. Wonderful.
Valerie is a cute, dog-friendly place with some really delicious sweet treats and other condiments and treats. The pumpkin petit four was incredible, and I want it again! I believe it is seasonal, but I highly recommend. I am only docking the food rating because they ran out of baguettes and bagels, so I could only get a sandwich with sourdough. It is a good thing I love sourdough! They also ran out of matcha, so you can tell this place is very popular.
Cute little spot! The coffee, pastries and food are all top notch. I was especially impressed by the customer service when my food ticket got mixed up and one of the servers brought me a free pastry to compensate for the mix up. I really appreciated it and that kind of customer service deserves 5 stars! My only feedback is to consider umbrellas for the curbside tables. That sun is no joke. Photo is of the bagel w tomatoes, cream cheese and capers. The berry pie and coffee cake (not pictured) were also good.
Enjoyed my lunch at Valerie’s! Petitfours are incredible! Turkey sandwich was great!
Atmosphere is 4 only because they have limited seating, but I've never not been able to find a spot pretty quickly. Very very good food, kind of pricey, but worth the occasional splurge. Their turkey sandwich is incredible. I think they changed the mustard semi recently though because it is a lot more spicy/strong and takes over the entire sandwich - so I now ask for without mustard. I've also hand the breakfast hand pie - they used to use dark chicken and it was SO tasty, I think they switch it out every once in a while. Vanilla latte with oat milk is my go to and very good, but it's better when they're less busy as when they rush it can be watery. Their matcha is ok. It's a matcha, but it isn't the best matcha I've ever had. Highly recommend this place!
Stopped by Valerie this morning for a bite, and was not disappointed! We got a scone, a breakfast hand pie, and then couldn’t resist getting a slice of pie as well (it was breakfast, but pie is full of fruit, so it seems fine to me. And it was delicious, so obviously worth breaking whatever social norms may exist around having “dessert” first thing in the morning…anyway) Everything we got was tasty. The hand pie was fresh, warm, and so buttery and flaky. There was plenty of seating; all of the tables are outside, either on the sidewalk out front or around the corner on their patio, so plan accordingly depending on the weather. I’ll be back!
Nice little place tucked in Ecco park. I enjoyed the mushroom hand pie. This is a must have. The staff was amazing the food was even better. I’m happy I found Valerie echo park. You need to try this little tea house bakery. You won’t be disappointed.
Lovely place to chill out at the patio at the side walk with coffee and super tasty chocolate cake and banana bread !! I really enjoyed and we love to come back every time while we are at the Echo Park!!
Valerie Echo Park serves everything breakfast from coffee to pastries to sandwiches. There is a small patio dining area and a few more small tables on the sidewalk. Service was friendly. My friends and I had a nice brunch here. I had the breakfast sandwich, great bread texture, delicious and silky scrambled eggs, with and fresh arugula. I fully enjoyed it.
What an amazing find! This sweet little place has great food and wonderful team members. I've been craving quiche, and their's was some of the best I've ever eaten. We ordered it with a side of fruit which was ripe and flavorful, unlike the fruit that one is served in many eating establishments. We felt very safe and appreciative of the pandemic safety precautions. Highly recommend!

Just had a great experience here. Really great vibes walking through the door, and friendly customer service. My coffee was amazing (triple shot iced latte w oat milk & vanilla) and I can’t wait to try their delicious looking pastries. edit: can confirm pastries are flames
Our favorite. The soft scrambled eggs are a dream. The curry chicken salad is superb.
Wow. The bitter chocolate petit flor is so nostalgic for me. Reminds me of my childhood somehow. Of what chocolate cake should be like. The not so small petit flor is an experience with texture and flavor. Along with a nice hot cup of coffee with steamed almond milk.. such a delight. Beautiful presentation and charming experience. Very lovely. This place means business, I can tell they are serious about producing fine quality hand crafted products. Customer service was great, too. Well staffed. What stood out to me was the kind gentleman that offered me a proper plate and fork and knife. I sat down and enjoyed each bite the right way because of it. So peaceful. Thank you!
This is a darling place for coffee/tea and pastries! This will be a new regular spot for me.
Turkey sandwich was delicious. One of the best spots I’ve ate. Love the vibes.

Valerie E. P. (est 2013) is a little corner pastry shop that offers coffee, good breakfast and lunch, and, of course, buttery pastries and desserts. They’re located along Echo Park avenue and Lucretia ave. Its indoor vibe was relaxing and I like their tiny outdoor patio space with street view. I came on a sizzling afternoon to grab lunch. I had their Iced Tea Hibiscus Lemonade and a Curried Chicken Sourdough sandwich x side of salad. The food was tasty and has unique flavor; drink was refreshing. Prices were fair for the area. Plenty of street parking. Staff was banal but polite. Overall, it’s a nice coffee pastry shop.
The grilled cheese is amazing! It's a bit pricey but totally worth it. I also really enjoy their chai lattes. The cafe has a nice ambiance and one can totally sit and get some work done or read. It's located on the corner of a side street so there's less traffic and a bit quieter.
Their pastries are amazing. I killed their strawberry galette and then went back in to get more slices of the passion fruit pie. So delicious. The sandwich was good but it was a super hot day and it’s hard to get shade especially cause it’s so popping. So we just quickly ate and left.
Awesome spot in a very nice and chill neighbourhood in Echo Park. The coffee absolutely slaps and the food is delicious. I went for the shiitake mushroom eggs which was amazing, and their basque cheesecake which is a must. Highly recommend!
Coffee is great they could use some newer tables & chairs, that are not so old & flimsy out front.Sit at your own risk.UPDATE* NEW CHAIRS AND TABLES! Staff is great especially the older gentleman who has been around for at least 10 yrs..He is the best! and will make your trip worthwhile...food is good, especially love the quiche sans meat. Its very custard like. They use quality ingredients.Parking can be a challenge.Quaint Echo Park location. *UPDATE* They purchased new tables and chairs! Maybe this review helped?Cheers!

I went here with my partner to get some breakfast hand pies (delicious). I love their hand pies so much. We were so hungry so we decided to get two hand pies each. When the runner brought out the food for us they said in a strange tone, “did you guys order the two hand pies each?”. To which we said “yes, thanks so much!”. And to which they responded, raising their eyebrows, “Very healthy of you.” and — “If you need boxes for your leftovers, we have some inside.” I was in shock by the insanely unnecessary judgement coming from them that I froze and could not really even respond. I used to go here quite a bit. The food is great, drinks are great,… it’s real cute and everything. Just wanted to pop in here months later to say— that was truly not cool and made me and my partner feel really shitty. Bullying is not it, even if you’re having a bad day or don’t like your job. Thanks 🙏

Well, been coming here for a while , For sure i love the location, And pastries always fresh and love their breakfast bowls. Cappuccinos depends who make them , but lately not bad. service can be better like they can be more friendly and nice.always room for improvement.I guess they need more employees.
So the food, pastries, and coffee are great here... However, service is 👎. I'm not sure what it is with Valerie's hiring process. The service at Grand Central Market's old location was also bad. It's just not warm. The staff come off as rude and condescending.
As a non coffee drinker it’s pretty hard to find places that have delectable alternatives. I enjoy a good matcha or chai latte and i really really wanted to find a drink here that i liked, but unfortunately the chai latte is watered down (tasted like tap water with a cinnamon stick or something) and the matcha was not horrible, but i wouldn’t call it yummy and its not something i would get again. I really really love the location, ambiance and the blonde girl is really, really kind. I’m going to keep trying because I really want to like this place. I would just love if they would take the chai or the matcha seriously. even adding a lavender syrup or ube as a flavor option for the matcha would be amazing! or making the chai mix stronger. Side note, i tried the mushroom hand pie years ago and it’s soo good. The other food also looks really good. I can see why so many people love this place.

Just in case: They are awful in service. They forgot to bring on of the orders, and there was a hair in one of the cakes, and when we asked to replace it, the server asked us to show him the hair. We had to touch it and find it again. Then we ordered another quiche and after 25 minutes they told us they forgot to warm it and we have to wait 12 more minutes! That’s exactly what you want to have, in the Saturday morning for your breakfast or brunch!
If I could give zero stars to Valerie’s, I would customer service is terrible. I was not greeted or asked if I needed help by any of the 2 staff members, whom were working the front end. The non approachable young woman, at the front register had a smirk on her face the entire time & ignored my presence, even though I asked her for help. She then proceeded to help out a couple with no problem that walked in a few minutes after me still ignoring my presence.will definitely not recommend this place to any family or friends. Totally unprofessional & awkward customer service! -sincerely non returning customer
Mid ah food ong. You have to be some no personality hipster to enjoy this food. Literally the most uninspiring, vanilla, tasteless food you can get in silverlake/echo park. Don't even get me started on the clientele, bunch of wanna be artists on Daddy's bank role, the convos you will hear in this place will make you want to off yourself. The coffee is bad, like how the f you get that wrong lmaoooo
