We have eaten in this place for about 30 years one because of work late lunch 12 midnight. This place has not failed us. This place the most secure place in L.A Police, fire department and security guards stop here. This is M.T.A employees stop for late lunch and we drove from the valley. This tells you how good it is.
I should have written this review way back then. If you like authentic oriental food, look no further! We drive 250 miles one way to enjoy Won Kok delicious food and pastries. Mike is always there making sure you are taking care for. Won Kok is nestled in Chinatown - Los Angeles just off Broadway. Their parking spot can be challenging, but we always parked across the street for around $5.00. What do I suggest? Their complimentary tea, their rice cake, Kung Pao Chicken, Chow Mein with BBQ Pork, Pad Thai, and dumplings are an excellent choice. They have over 70 plus meal combinations! Greetings from Phoenix Mike!!See you soon!
I read other people’s reviews and saw the rating so decided to try this place out. The restaurant isn’t the prettiest and looks old but the food is so good. There was a consistent stream of people in the restaurant and at the walk up order window. The portion sizes are huge for a resonable price. The favor is excellent-juicy, balance and fresh!
Dim sum here is very cheap and excellent. Lots of food for a good price. I swear downtown LA charges double price for the same exact items and same taste. Dinner meals are also great. Skip the fried dishes and get some real Chinese food like their eggplant dish or half chicken ginger dish and some rice. We liked those dishes a lot. Cooked Chinese eggplant correctly. The eggplant dish can use a bit more eggplant though. The restaurant should consider keeping its floors cleaner though. Not a fan of sticky floors...

Good food, authentic Chinese dishes. Reasonable prices. Restrooms need a make over. Take out gets long on busy hours.

Best priced dim sum around as well as being tasty. Would recommend to anyone who loves dim sum. Might have to wait as the line to order gets long.
Ample parking nearby + short wait times + good cheap food. We got the har gow ($1.10), egg custard ($1.80), siu mai x 2 ($2.00), hot and sour soup ($11), curry pastry ($1.70), and pineapple custard…

This spot serves authentic Asian food and you can really taste the freshness in every dish. They’re constantly busy and making food all day, which is always a great sign. Everything we tried was flavorful and worth the wait. Be prepared to see a line for takeout—it moves, but they’re clearly in high demand. The service isn’t always the warmest since they’re super busy and often short staffed, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I’d definitely recommend ordering takeout rather than dining in.
AMAZING food. Love every menu they have and the prices are rather cheap as well! Portions are according to the price though. They often are short-staffed and may be dismissive but they get the job done VERY quickly, and are rather kind and nice when not in a rush hour. The place is messy and dirty as a chinatown restaurant would be. Note that EVERY MENU is DELICIOUS. Pork chops with special sauce and BBQ pork fried rice are my favorite menu.
I’ve always wondered what the hype was since I pass this place every time I’m in Chinatown and see a long line. I finally tried it today and now I get it. The food is solid. The dumplings and steamed are flavorful and satisfying, especially for just $1–$1.30 each. Service is extremely fast, it’s a great value for the price, and it’s conveniently located right next to the metro station.
BF has a super soft spot for Won Kok. It reminds him of how dim sum used to be in the 1990s. They still have a parking lot for their guests to park in so that's awesome in Chinatown, albeit they are very limited and sorta tight spots. We luckily came after the lunch rush and before the early dinner folks on the weekend, so we got a spot and was able to have a dine-in meal. Their dining room is pretty large once you walk in and go past the smaller space in front. We had originally eyed just the dim sum menu, but in order to dine in, you have to order from their regular menu, so we got our usual dim sum favorites and also got tomato beef rice. We loved everything we ordered for dim sum, which included shu mai, har gow, bbq pork bun, fried dumplings, chicken sticky rice, sesame ball, egg tart, and coconut bun. The only thing we tried that we would pass on was the egg roll. Prices were reasonable and portion size was more than decent. The tomato beef rice was pretty good. It was nice to just sit down, enjoying our food and having some hot tea. We had wanted to dine in so that we could pack up our leftovers in our own containers, but the restaurant tried to think a step ahead of us when they saw how much we ordered and gave us our dim sum items in styrofoam containers, ready to be taken home if we didn't finish. If I wasn't trying to be so environmentally conscious, I would really appreciate this level of service!
Ok if you’re looking for cheap Chinese food but real good…Won Kok Restaurant is the place! My brother & I got the Special Chinese Family Dinner #1 which consists of: egg flower soup, chicken wings, egg roll, pork chow mein, mushroom chicken, sweet & sour pork (my fave) and pork fried rice (2nd fave). It was a feast to say the least!! There’s a short wait to get a table but once seated it’s decent wait time to have all those food mentioned. Did I forget to mention all those were only $42?? We had to get to-go boxes bec it was a lot! Definitely worth coming. A tiny parking spot for restaurant goers is a plus. They also have a Dimsum line on the side. This wasn’t my first time here….or my last! 😊👍🏼
This place has very very good dim sum, buns, and more. It is super great taste-wise but I'll have to say that if you are not Asian, you might not be used to how the workers treat you. That's okay, just keep it in mind and if you can ignore that, you will not regret eating here. I recommend trying the buns and dim sum. Super affordable and tasty!
Food was good and delicious and reasonably priced. The soups and dumplings were good. There is a separate take away section of this place which was crowded showing the demand of this place and its food. However the dining section didn’t have a very good ambience, not upto a certain standard and the service was slow. The staff did attend to us if a very nice manner but were very slow and were disappearing mid service. We had the following item at the restaurant: Wonton Chicken Soup Deep Fried Crispy Squid with Spicy Salt And we packed the following food to go: House Special Fried Rice Kung Pao Chicken Overall cost is about $50-55.
This place is your typical Chinese restaurant. Outdated tables and chairs, dirty floors, large food portions, and mediocre service. We dined at the restaurant, although they have a takeout window that gets extremely busy. You can order dim sum from both. The dim sum menu is very limited. Most likely, the items that sold the most precovid. I will say that it was really good. Just keep it mind that these don't come in the little bamboo steamers you're used to. Instead, they throw everything you order on a platter and drop it off at your table without saying a word. We never once saw our water after the food was delivered. In addition, we ordered a noodle dish from the menu, which to our surprise was really tasty and felt authentic. I'd definitely come back here for the food and the prices. Definitely a must try if you've never.

This was genuinely probably one of the least efficient Chinese restaurants I have been to and I have been to a LOT of Chinese restaurants. The takeout (!!!!!) dimsum window had a 50 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Their jumbo cream bun is honestly not even that big. It was really dry on the outside and a lot more Hawaiian bun-like than my usual preference.
Mexican kid in the front window taking order very unprofessional if u dont wanna work in customer service find a new job. It was my 1st time going tonite and the experience was anything less then great and this workers attitude was a major key factor in that. We ordered chicken dumplings but on our receipt was mentioned as dim sum im also pretty sure it wasn't chicken either because I only eat chicken an now I have food poisoning due to what ever was in said dim sum(even tho I ordered chicken dumplings) I also order chicken fried rice that was good because it was actually what I ordered.also got orange chicken thats was also good like befor because its what i ordered. I wanted chow mien just regular no protein(no chicken no pork no meat no shrimp) and all I got was straight noodles. No vegetables just a box of noodles. The staff on the other side of the restaurant were attentive an a lot more professional. Also had the chicken won tong soup an that was alright but not convinced that was chicken either

They were extremely rude (with a lot of yelling) before and after scaming us. We ordered quite a bit, but we were missing food and they, along with the manager refused to talk it out and decided to ignore us. Make sure you get all your food before leaving, otherwise they will just take your money. They also didn't give or offer us plastic forks, napkins, or soy sauce the first time and we had to ask for some. Never going back since anyone can get way better food and service anywhere else. Later, I calculated the total and it seems like they rounded up to the nearest dollar and overcharged.
Been coming here since the late 80’s when they used to close at 3am ..all the old waiters are gone and I guess the cooks too cus bit’s really bad now it’s been a hit and miss with this spot for years but lately it’s a miss no flavor plain looking chow mein some noodles pieces of onion and whatever meat u get it doesn’t even look good u can tell its about to be weak by how it looks …never again, dim sum is good tho and good price that’s all we will buy here we done with this spot..yang chow always on point
Everything we ordered was cold and the server was not exactly accommodating when we complained and asked for just a few of our items to be brought hot. We ordered approximately 20 items from the dim sum menu and everything brought out was either room temp or cold. It may have been good if it was hot, but it was mediocre at best. The egg roll from the menu was hot and pretty good but by the time it came we were over it with all the cold food. Atmosphere is mid/fine, kind of what you'd expect I guess? Truly don't recommend trying this.
Visited Won Kok Restaurant for breakfast on 21 Dec 2025. Ordered several Dim Sum and it was very disappointing. The outlook can be promising but the taste is really can not make it, all dim sum served was cool not even hot. Likewise the customer service was not good either. Environment was also not clean. I will not visit again unless the restaurant change the chef.
Watch out your bill, they OVERCHARGE and no one wants to admit it. THE WORSE customer service. -5 stars. We did do a quick calculation at the window because the price was kinda higher than expected, but then we figured with the sales tax it’s only off like $2-3,i though I might not remember the sale tax rate correctly so I checked online LA county it’s 9.75%. But I got home, I wanted to double check how they came out with the number so quick without any calculator so I pulled up the menu again. And write my own calculations on the box , and found out they OVERCHARGED ME by $9.80. Because the menu said it’s SALE TAX INCLUDED. So I figured it would be better to edit the credit card amount on the same day to avoid any fee, so I called them as courtesy to have them update the total. When we called and the lady insisted her calculation is correct, and I asked “how did you get $39.20” She hung up the phone on me. So I called back, a guy answered and he said whatever the lady is saying is correct and RRFUSEbto update it, so I said i wouldn’t waste my time to call back it’s it’s correct, the guy said I wasted his time, and then I said this is not the right way to treat customer, and we will dispute it until you correct the amount, not because I care about the extra $9.80 just because the don’t care and overcharged customer for a long time and no one would complain or report them about it. >___< Left side was my calculations and right side it’s the to go lady’s calculations in black one. How did 8 large chicken buns ($8x2.5= $20) and 8 large small chicken bun (8x1.2= 9.6) $ added up to be $39.2? The rest of the items were okay it automatically round up like 3 sesame ball (3x $1.2= $3.6) And 3 salty dumpling (3X $1.2= $3.6) and it’s $7.2 abs thru would AUTOMATICALLY ROUDN UP to $7.30, and 3 of Curry chicken pastry (3X$1.70= $5.1). But the lady wrote $5.20 So this is what We ordered, (or we actually got) 8x large chicken buns (8x$2.5=$20.00 ) 8x small chicken buns (8x$1.20= $ 9.60) 10 x shrimp har gow (but we got 5 har gow x $1.1 = $5.5 and 5x shu mai 5x$10= $5, this calculation is the only correct one but items were wrong)) 3 sesame ball (3x $1.2= $3.6) 3 fried pork ball (3X $1.2= $3.6) 3 Curry chicken pastry(3X$1.70= $5.1) 1 chicken sticky rice (1x $3.5= $3.5) I wouldn’t able to check every single item and qty until we got home, thinking if the lady does it so quick she should be correct, but I was WRONG…

Won Kok: Generations of Dim Sum Tradition in LA's Chinatown
If you've spent any time wandering through Los Angeles' vibrant Chinatown, chances are you've passed by Won Kok Restaurant. It’s not the newest spot on the block, nor is it trying to be. Instead, Won Kok stands as a genuine staple, a place where families have been gathering for an authentic dim sum fix since the late 1970s. It’s got that lived-in, honest feel that only decades of serving good food can impart.Walking in, you’ll immediately notice the space is clean and unpretentious – definite...

It’s definitely got that quintessential “hole in the wall” charm, nothing fancy, but it delivers where it counts: on authentic, delicious Chinese food at prices that won't break the bank. Stepping into Won Kok, you're immediately in a clean, no-frills environment that just buzzes with activity. There’s a
