I am in love with the atmosphere. The place has two stories which made my experience pretty mind blown. The restaurant made me felt I am in my hometown again with the live music. Waitress did a fascinating job checking up on my table and suggested awesome food. I ordered the bass the flavors were words I cannot describe, it was just delicious, hand down type of food. I'll definitely come back here again.

This is a fancy place that most people dress up for. My friend and I came in dressed in casual street clothes and were still treated respectfully. The service was fast, the food was great, and the atmosphere was amazing. I highly reccomend for a date night!

We stopped into Funky Door on a whim for brunch and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The food was phenomenal (The monte cristo and frittata) and the drinks were spectacular. We were also treated to free champagne to celebrate our move to Lubbock! Our waiter was extremely friendly and told us all the best places around town. He also have great recommendations and told us all about the wine selections and upcoming events. Obviously this place is on the pricier side, but it was worth EVERY PENNY. We will definitely be back!

Everything was great! Our servers, the food, and wine were perfect! I had Beef & Potatoes soup, Lobster Mac n Cheese with Stella ROSE Peach. We had fun for our girls nights out. I highly recommend tee Funky Door.

Of you are a wine enthusiast or connoiseur, this is a good place for you. The food is great! Try the fondeu, simple but tasty. They have happy hour and great deals plus wine by the glass and bottle, flights, cocktails, beers and more. I went on a Friday and there was live music. Great environment. They are busy so play it safe and make a reservation.

Always a great time. The staff is always friendly, the entertainment is always amazing, and the food and drinks are always tasty! Recently took my colleagues here for the first time from out of town and they thoroughly enjoyed the venue, food, and service.

Super classy and upscale. They have the best service. If you are taking a large party of people I would defiantly recommend a reservation. This place gets busy because it’s good. They offer a mystery wine day where you pick the type and the pick the bottle to pour from. The menus is always changing to what is in season. The do live music and themes on the patio. This last week when I went it was a cute tiki bar them. If your looking for somewhere nice to grab a meal or a drink and an appetizer this is your place.

This place was amazing. We're from out of town visiting and I chose this place to take my fiancée to. The ambiance, the hostess, the waitress and her trainee, the food, even the customer service was simply incredible.

Absolutely delicious! We shared the “cheese sticks” which certainly aren’t just mozzarella sticks, they are light and airy with three different dipping sauces. I ordered the pear and pecan salad with a salmon filet and the salmon was cooked perfectly! The goat cheese mascarpone was delicious and they served the dressing on the side, which is a great option. My husband ordered a Buffalo trace old fashioned and the lobster Mac and cheese. He loved his dish, and the sauce was lighter than expected which was really nice. The service was great and attentive; we’ll definitely be back!

Getting 5 stars because of the food and ambience. The service was a little slow, especially at the bar. I ended up moving to a table because I was not greeted in the 10 minutes I was there. My server, Sydney, was great, recommending a unique cocktail (Smoke Signal- Knob Creek, Limencello, St. Germain, and grilled pineapple infused sweet tea smoked in a mason jar). The food is really good, especially the mushroom and bacon risotto! There is live music and a wine tasting area too.

Had a great dinner at The Funcky Door. The atmosphere is just a cut above. The food was great and they had live music to set the mood. Very entertaining and elegant.

My wife and I have date night at the Funky Door every time we are in Lubbock. OMG…as usual the food, the service and atmosphere was amazing. We started the night off with beer wine and cheese sticks our absolute favorite appetizer. Followed by a filet mignon cooked to perfection. What topped off the night is Jake the manager stopped by our table to check on us. After visiting and learning this has been our “spot”, has been for many years, and how much we love our date nights at the Funky Door, he asked the chef to prepare our favorite dessert; Strawberry Champagne Fondue that is no longer on the menu for us. It was AS ALWAYS the perfect night! Thank you Funky Door, Damian (our server) and Jake for a lovely evening…David and Debbie from NM

We had a great experience at The Funky Door. It was clean, and the noise level upstairs was perfect to hold great conversation with our friends. Our server Georgie was the best we've had. He was very well poised, experienced, prompt and quick witted. He rolled with the punches of my joking crew and even saved a neighboring table from a possible catastrophic fire. Their fondue warmer caught the Paper around the dish aflame and when my husband told him "They're on fire" he quickly jumped into action and put it out. Our drinks were on point. My husband ordered a smoked old fashion and a pecan one as well. Both were superb. My samon was pretty good. It was either made first and was sitting in the warmer a while or a tad bit overcooked. It was served on a bed of Rice with cabbage and was still quite tasty with a light peanut sauce. I wish there had been a bit more sauce. My husband was the birthday boy and ordered a chocolate cake with cinnamon ice cream, it came complete with a crispy piece of baccon; thus creating a perfect sweet and savory balance.

Perfecto! Pictured- pork chop/pear&pecan salad w/chicken. For dessert candy bar fondue with churros. Not pictured bang bang shrimp. Everything was absolutely delicious, to the last bite! Wine pairings are a great addition to this well laid menu👍

We drove in from Houston, and this was an oasis for a great dinner after a long day. Atmosphere is sophisticated with the impressive wine staircase, but a bit noisy. Service was good. Food was over-the-top. Wife had duck that was outstanding. The pork ribeye was excellent. Skip the potatoes and go for the brussel sprouts. Crispy, savory and delicious. Unbelievable wine list. This is a must-go-to spot in Lubbock. We will return.

A world-class wine selection is a accompanied by world-class food this is a must go when you're in Lubbock. I ordered the steak and Caesar salad were awesome. Don't forget to start with a charcuterie tray. You won't be disappointed.

Everything was excellent. I had the Mystery $7 Rose and it was a good quality Rose. I had the steak Frites from the appetizers and a side of brussel sprouts. It was a huge amount of food and really good. The entertainment was high quality. It was a good night

One of Lubbock’s unique restaurants. A must see if you’re new to Lubbock, or visiting. The atmosphere, wait staff, music, food and of course the varieties of wine are amazing. Don’t forget to try the delicious fried pickles different than others you’ve had. A funky place for a fun and relaxing time with family and friends.

This place has a chill vibe. They have an indoor area and an outdoor patio. They had a singer playing guitar who had the most beautiful voice. The waiter was so fun and accommodating . This is definitely a place that you want to just hang out and visit with friends.

Great date night spot for something upscale and different. The Funky Old Fashion was made perfectly, Steak Frites for an appetizer started the food off well. I had the Vampire Tacos and the wife had the Pair & Pecan Salad. For dessert we had the Bananas Foster fondue with churros and strawberries. Everything was fantastic. The wife also loved her Red Wine Sangria. Chance, our waiter was top-notch.

I love it for the great food and special vibes, not to mention that the place is beautiful. Considering all those reasons I picked this spot not only to offer dinner for my family and friends in my wedding day, but some of my photos were taken here. All guests were happy about the food and the service even the ones with dietary restrictions and vegetarian preferences. Me and my husband received an outstanding customer service from the staff all the time, they made lots of cute details for us, in our special day that we didn't even consider. We have been going there every year to celebrate our anniversary, it is always the best of the best here in Lubbock. It is a fine place that you really have to try if you are living here or if you are visiting Lubbock city. Here are some of the photos from our wedding that was in 2020! Thanks Funky door staff! 💖

We were so lucky, what a hidden gem! The service is the best, the food is indescribably delicious and presentation is an art. The largest wine selection from Tempe,Az to Dallas, Texas. Innovative and delicious cocktails.

Food and service was outstanding! I came here for my anniversary and we had a wonderful time. I feel like the drinks could have been a bit larger for the price, but they were delicious. The fondue was incredible and so were the entrees! The atmosphere is incredible and a wonderful place to celebrate or have a nice dinner. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Great early Monday evening experience just sitting at the bar. Service was professional with great mystery wine picks at $6 a glass. Food was tasty, the lobster mac n cheese was divine. Lots of vegetarian/ pescatarian options available. Will definitely check it out again soon !

First time visiting this place and it was amazing. Bartenders were very attentive and suggested some amazing cocktails. Having only lived here less than a year, I am happy to have found some amazing cocktails and knowledgeable mixologists!! Food was amazing too! French toast is HUGE!! Truffle fries are SO good!

Came for dinner. The food & service were excellent!! We had the bang bang shrimp appetizer. Best bang bang shrimp I have ever had. Ordered a pecan old fashioned and it was great! I didn’t like the pecans floating in my drink. They also didn’t use the ball ice so it felt like too much floating around as I drank it. But the drink was good. They gave us complimentary champagne for my birthday. It was good too. I ordered the bourbon chicken and subbed potatoes for brussel sprouts, good move. They were excellent. Also subbed steamed spinach for asparagus-another good move. Crème brûlée was fantastic. I got the death by chocolate. That was the only thing I didn’t enjoy. Quality was not good. It is not a brownie, it is chocolate cake. (Which I don’t like & had I known wouldn’t have ordered). Fudge topping taste like Hershey ice cream topping out of the bottle. Overall, amazing service, phenomenal food and if I was local I would come often!

This is a funky little place with big funky character. A place where the average Joe can go and throw a pinky up, basking in the finer things. Delicious high quality foods, good wine, knowledgeable staff, wonderful ambience... Just a well rounded good time. We went for brunch but excited to go back for the dinner menu. Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this establishment. It's a nice, enjoyable atmosphere with a wide selection of wines and wine specials. We had the pleasure of being served by Aiden, who was so awesome. We ordered the fondue, which comes with their specialty crouton bread, and ordered mushrooms on the side, as well as their pickled cheese spears wrapped in a wonton wrap. It was so delicious!!! To drink, we did the Brunch Punch. Sorry, but I can not tell you what all it had in it because I forgot. LoL! It was so yummy, though. I really liked this place a lot. I would definitely come back to try other dishes and drinks.

This was a fun surprise of a find while in Lubbock, TX. Neither of us were particularly hungry so we were only looking at snacks. But we wanted wine. The night we were there they had a wine deal but it was limited by price point. They have a lot of expensive wines so the choices were few and far between. I think they were out of our first choice but the waiter made a good recommendation for another option. The atmosphere was fun, there was a musician doing a good job and a boisterous crowd to watch. I had the California flatbread and it was amazingly good. My coworker had the pear and pecan salad which was impressively big and more than enough for an entree for a vegetarian. I will keep this place on my regular rotation when I travel here.

This is a great, atmospheric restaurant to dine at. The staff, Carson especially, was very helpful and attentive to our needs. The food was very good. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly. We especially loved the spinach and artichoke fondue. We topped it off with a chocolate cinnamon dessert that was so good I ended up cheating on my diet. The atmosphere is super inviting, and the live music really adds to the vibe of the place.

Behind the entrance of The Funky Door, guests are greeted by a swanky two-story wine tower and chic wine bar decor. We made our way to the spacious outdoor patio with our pup, Dak, where we started our lunch with Fiesta Fondue and a bottle of "Meerlust" from Stellenbosch (because we desperately miss South Africa). The Funky Door has dedicated "bring your Pup to the Patio" events and Wednesday there is a 50% off wine (bottle) special! Before we tell you about the amazing menu, we hope if you visit that you are treated to the most excellent, Ben Parker, who was our waiter. He is professional, appropriately proud of the menu (as if he crafted it beside the chef), very knowledgeable of their extensive wine list, offered exceptional menu recommendations, kept our glasses and stomachs full, and our hearts very happy! After the generous fondue serving, we split the 'San Fran Grilled Cheese' with parmesan crusted wheat berry bread, three cheese blend, tomato, avocado, and a side of bacon and mushroom risotto. Our tenacity extends to the table and we finished strong with a deliciously decadent chocolate cake with cinnamon-maple ice cream that brought sweet tears to our contentment. The staff all adhered to mask policies, the patio offered an abundance of space to socially distance, and it has been a while since we had such a magical and pleasantly memorable dining experience. If you are in Lubbock, dont drive by the Funky Door!

The Funky Door had really gone all out in their flagship in Milwaukee. The central wine tower into the second level is stunning. We joined a party upstairs with plenty of room for twenty guests at two long tables. They had martini specials and glasses of wine for under $10, as well as exceptional wines available by the glass through their Wine Station dispensing machines. The appetizers and food were top notch. The fried pickles were delicious and the filet mignon appetizer melts in your mouth. Their Mediterranean trio was a healthy option, as well as the Funky Beets with goat cheese. All entrees were generous portions. My wife and I split the Wasabi and Pistachio Crusted Chicken with the Split plate fee that give two setups with the split chicken. Very clever when you've filled up on appetizers!

This is a great place. SO WISH WE HAD ONE IN Plano. We had an Old fashioned that was perfectly made. We had Spinach Artichike fondu. The steak and chicken were perfectly cooked and so tender. The menu is wonderful. It was truly hard to decide what to eat. We enjoyed the Wine Station was really cool with a full range of tasting options. We had a really nice soup, a salad and a side of Okra. Everything was really good. They are busy and they so not push to turn tables. You can really sit and enjoy your meal. A Band started at 8 with great chill music.

Update, December 2023: We've visited a few times since the original review, and this is consistently the best filet I have had in Lubbock (and could rival filet anywhere). Their steak tips are also deliciously tender. Amazing wine selection; I love letting the sommelier choose my wine flight (telling them whatever I'm feeling like that day) and then selecting my favorite for a glass! --- Original review, April 2023: We reserved a table at the Funky Door for my birthday, unsure what to expect, but hoping it was good. We were very delightfully surprised at all aspects of the experience. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and had great recommendations, and offered a complimentary glass of (delicious) champagne for the special occasion. We also got a blind bubbly flight, where they chose 3 bubbly wines based on our tastes (could also do red or white flight, but hey, we were celebrating!) and they were on point. The food was amazing, too. Can't go wrong with fondue (for appetizer and dessert); salad was light, refreshing, and flavorful; and the ribeye could rival that of any steakhouse. The char on the outside was perfect, and they know how to do a rare steak! All of that combined with the funky atmosphere and eccentric yet tasteful decor made for a great experience. A musician began playing guitar around 7 and the restaurant was pretty busy by then, so I'd recommend reservations.

Great experience. If you love wine it's a great place to visit. The waiter was very knowledgeable on the wines and was on hand whenever we needed anything. The food was delicious, they have a good variety. Don't let the name fool you, the place is quite fancy, prices are pretty fair. Nothing too pricey in my opinion. Definitely visit with friends, plan on tasting some of the wines from their vast menu, and enjoy

Had an amazing experience. The food, the drinks and atmosphere did it for me. I tried this specialty drink, "The Chilton", it was very refreshing and tasty. I had the shrimp and arugula salad and we shared a charcutiere board which I loved. Everything was delicious and our server very attentive. I do want to go back and experience more. Good job Funky Door, keep doing what you're doing.

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this evening at The Funky Door, and from the moment we walk in the service was amazing. The food outstanding (best we’ve had in Lubbock so far), our server was attentive and made several recommendations for entries. The cheese stick appetizer was incredible. I had the pork ribeye and it was so tender and my husband had the lobster Mac & cheese and said there was a ton of lobster in it. My only regret is that we didn’t save room for dessert!

I took my girlfriend here for valentines day and the food was nothing short of delicious. We had a 10 oz ribeye which was delicious though the apricot chutney was a little interesting and might want to be reviewed, we had the madeira mushrooms which had an acquired taste so we left those alone. We loved the cheese sticks, which came with a pesto sauce, tomato sauce, and a ranch sauce. To end the evening we split some chocolate fondue with strawberries, churros, and sweet bread as the food we dipped. It was an over all great experience! The server was attentive, quick to recommend food, and quite knowledgeable of the menu. We spent a total of $102 dollars including all food, taxes and a 22% tip. We also got our reservation times mixed up and came 30 minutes early, and they went ahead and found a spot to sit us down which was quite sweet of them.

The vibes here are off the charts and so are the staff!! Mason and Elizabeth took care of us all night and were super personable and helpful with all their recommendations! The chicken gnocchi was fantastic, and the drinks were delicious as well. If you get a chance to stop by the bar, Harry is super friendly as well and also has great recommendations. Overall will definitely be returning.

What a beautiful restaurant! Food was fantastic and service was excellent. Worth a stop if you're in the area. Only complaint is that the fish and chips were a bit lackluster but the lobster Mac and cheese was exquisite and steak was cooked perfectly. Great options here.

We had the pleasure of having a last minute sweet 16 birthday brunch and were so impressed with the VIP service we received. From the initial calls to various hostesses (Jaden B / Ruth) & the manager (Gavin), they were super willing to accommodate a party of 23. They stayed in close touch with me to make sure tables were set up exactly how we wanted. When we arrived Ava C, Ruth, Wyatt & Gavin assisted with setting up table cloths / runners. Ruth went above and beyond setting up floral arrangarrangement making station while Ava set up candles and center pieces, etc. Ruth also tirelessly tried to set up balloon arch but the wind was not cooperating. The patio also had excellent heaters that kept girls warm. Once seated, the girls were presented with a personalized brunch menu with delicious options and mocktail choices for a reasonable price. Ava was the most PHENOMENAL server ever!! She was so efficient, accommodating and sweet. Highly recommend Funky Door for any celebration or dining needs!

I went to Funky Door with my boyfriend for our anniversary, and it was nothing short of amazing! Our server was Elizabeth and she was great at providing descriptions and recommendations of all the drinks and food items. She was very friendly and quick with service! I got the butternut chicken gnocchi and it was so delicious!! My boyfriend got a cajun pasta which was also super savory and tasty (I ate off his plate too) we both shared the cheesy garlic bread which came with three sauces, pesto, tomato basil I think, and this tasty butter sauce, all incredibly good. We both also got dessert, the cheesecake funky door style and the Bourbon chocolate cake! I have to say though, the bourbon chocolate cake was absolutely incredible, literally melts in your mouth and rich in flavor with the toffee sauce add in!! The atmosphere was very romantic and sweet, there was a small band playing who were very funny and interactive. Overall 10/10 experience!! Highly recommend and will be coming back for more special events! (I only got a picture of the garlic bread because we absolutely devoured the rest of the food LOL)

On November 4th, 2022 my girlfriend and I came to the Funky Door for a date after being together a month. We were not impressed then. The food was not as good as I wanted it to be, especially for the price. The service was still great back then though. Last night my now Fiancé and I went in for our 3 year anniversary and we had a very different experience. We loved it! I was amazed at how great everything was. The food, the drinks, the service, the vibes. All amazing! Scout was the highlight of the night for us, she made our anniversary night feel so special. She also recommended the only alcoholic drink my fiancé has ever actually enjoyed. Very impressed with our experience. We will definitely be back! P.S. The only reason for the 4/5 on atmosphere is because the live music was a little bit too loud. but it was still enjoyable.

Went to the Funky Door on a recent trip to Lubbock. It was also my 37th wedding anniversary so my wife and I were hoping for a stellar experience. We were not disappointed on any level. The atmosphere is dark and sultry. The service was a solid 10 out of 10. The drinks were even better. We mostly had several appetizers and the Fiesta fondue. Everything was fantastic. Finished with a slice of cheesecake flamed table side with 151 rum. Live music by Arle Ross was unexpected and outstanding.

From start to finish everything was incredible. We were a walk in reservation and the hosts were friendly. We didn’t wait long at all and it was a Saturday! We mentioned it was our anniversary but didn’t expect anything and they had a table set up with rose petals and the waitress (Emma) offered us complimentary champagne and when she heard we don’t drink she surprised us with two Shirley temples in some cute champagne glasses. Emma’s energy the whole time was wonderful. And super contagious! She made our 5 year anniversary amazing. The food and service here were seriously top tier. Our expectations were exceeded. I can’t put together the words to express how much this meant to my fiancé and I. Emma felt like a friend we’ve known for a while. I’m so serious. She has the best best energy. And the food was truly amazing. We didn’t touch the salt and pepper ONCE. Need any steak sauces, NOTHING. Compliments to the chefs!!! The ONLY thing I would change was the live music being a tad too loud to hear each other. It’s a nice touch for sure but please turn it down a little bit ☺️

Love the decor in this place. The evening we dined in, there was a live band. Great music but it was a bit loud so we had a hard time carrying on a conversation and there wasn't any seating that wasn't right in front of the stage. The food was good. I really loved the fondue. We ordered the Funky Door and added beef tips. Very good and unique as you cannot find that most places. My mom ordered a salad with chicken. It was good but I felt $27.00 a bit too pricey for a salad.

First time here. I ordered the pesto chicken pasta. It was super good. Delicious tasting pesto. Good grilled chicken. I also had the cheesecake with chocolate sauce and strawberry. It was really good.

It's alright. We tried ordering the escargot but they had just sold out. We went with the honey grape with goat cheese and that was the star of the night. The duck jubilee was slightly overcooked but the sauce was amazing. The millionaire ribeye was okay. Nothing about it screamed millionaire other than the size. The mashed potatoes as a side were salty. All in all, not terrible. I did not see any booths btw.

Celebrated New Year’s Eve with a large group of coworkers at the Funky Door last night. The drinks were on point but they must’ve been short staffed because the service was lacking. Everything we ordered took a long time for it to come to the table and the servers weren’t coming to ask if we needed more to drink. Food was tasty and they had live music. The singer had a great voice and we enjoyed listening to her. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and atmosphere.

Funky interior design Decent red wine collection Warmly and countryside atmosphere with guitar singer Decent well-trained waiters Concerning the food, perhaps I am too picky for the degree of cooking and heating, I think the veggies are overcooked; the duck is too greasy; pork is well cooked but lack of juicy and tender

Just passing thru and arriving late in Lubbock we were happy to find this place still serving after 10:30pm Drinks and food were good. Interesting architecture with the spiral staircase. Live acoustic set was a plus. Very friendly staff.

We were in town and my husband and i decided to give this a try! Food and cocktails were great but service was lacking. Definitely not spending our money here again! Restaurant was not busy at all thats the sad part! Lots of employees and 2 to 3 managers in sight. Ridiculous!!!

Enjoyed the food, and our waiter was nice, but the hostess was rude and another employee which might have been a manager didn't make us feel welcome at all. Almost felt like we weren't wanted there. Pretty unfortunate because the food was good and the atmosphere was nice. Not sure if we'll go back.

This was not the best experience we expected for the price they charged and the expectancy of an upscale restaurant. This was also our first time here so I can’t say if this is something to be expected. Upon arrival our outside reservations were reassigned to indoor as the waitress outside was overloaded. We took the upstairs thinking we can talk amongst each other but it was surprisingly very loud and had to lean in; in hindsight we should have took the downstairs to enjoy the live music as he was very good but hard to hear and non existent from our view point. The food was amazing but arrived over an hour late. Service was kind and although our waiter mentioned he was new, I had to remind for refills, ask for silverware to eat my main entree and requested to another waiter if they could take our wine we had ordered with our main entree off our receipt since it wasn’t given with the meal and we were already half way through our food. I did end up accepting my wine after the waiter apologetically brought it out and I wasn’t quite as done with my food as my husband was. At the end we were greeted by the manager and she discounted our appetizer for the inconvenience.

Our steaks were salty, I made a point of saying how great everything else was. I ate about 3 bites of my steak and daughterabout 4. Her friend even confirmed our impression. They took one off, I'm non confrontational, it was 50 dollars, I said to just remove the steak and I'll pay for the sides, I didn't want to wait for more. So 50 dollars for potatoes and squash

We had high hopes for Funky Door. I hate giving this review. We were forgotten about by the waiter or hostess. I had to go back to the hostess and remind her we were there. We got a glass of champagne, as an apology from the manager. That was interesting, because every table around us got a glass as well. We both ordered the filet, medium rare and they both came out, at the very least slightly warm. Why put a steak on a cold or even room temperature plate? How long did the steak sit before it was brought out? I don’t get it, and If we had of mentioned the steak being cold, then we would’ve been labeled as “unable to please”. No, I wouldn’t recommend Funky Door. If you want steak, go to Double Nickel.

Made reservation for Thursday night before graduation. Seated quickly. Waiter very nice. We were seated at 0745ish-order drinks quickly but did not get them until 8:30. When we attempted to order food was then told they had run out of all burgers, BBQ chicken. So we looked at menu again. Attempted to order again. My husband orders pork chops. Waiter says we are out of that as well. Wth. The waiter should have told us from the BEGINNING what selections were NOT available. Fondue was good, pricey for any sides you want to dip though. salad was good. shrimp dish was super $34 for only 6shrimp and rice that wasn’t cooked all the way. Steak was over cooked-husband told waiter 3 times medium rare and it was medium. Adult beverages were strong and good. And not badly priced. Atmosphere was wonderful. Great band playing. Overall good experience.

Okay. First things first. Food and drinks are amazing! This is a really cool place. Why did I give it three out of five stars then? I'll tell you. When we got inside, we sat at the bar so that we could drink and watch Thursday Night Football. Inside the Restaraunts in the corner, there was a country musician playing guitar. It was so loud, we could barely hear our bartender. We had to yell to order anything. We ordered drinks and fondue. It took about 15 minutes to get the fondue. The fondue was awesome. I highly recommend the Fiesta fondue. So, after about 30 minutes after we got our drinks and fondue, we ordered our food. The place wasn't busy. It was another hour and a half until I got my salad and my coworker got his pork chop. It was two hours before we got our meal. It was two of us at the bar. Why did it take so long? Great place. Great food. But they need to organize the kitchen and speed up the food.

T
T Skyler

The quality of the food is decent, great customer service. Everything tastes good except for the chocolate fondue. When it first came out, the chocolate looks clumpy and a bit oily; then, after about 5 minutes, the chocolate started to separate and the oil is just floating everywhere 🙁 we barely able to eat any of it.

Came here for a friend’s birthday. It was a lot of fun and the live music made it that much better. There were little to no covid precautions taken here. They were running at full capacity with no social distancing and waiters didn’t wear a mask, but rather a plastic shield that only goes up over the mouth. They might as well not wear a mask at all. It took half an hour to seat us, despite having a reservation. Why make one if you can’t seat that party at the time they’re expected to arrive? I ordered the Tuna Poke and the New York Strip Steak. The Tuna Poke tasted good, but there were a LOT of carrot strings and the crisps underneath were soggy. I felt nauseus after eating this, as good as it was. It didn’t taste incredibly fishy though, meaning the fish wasn’t too old. The New York Strip with Chef’s Veggies and Potatoes was good! It was a very good steak and I quite liked the balsamic they drizzled ontop. I’d never had steak like this before. It was thick and juicy and cooked very well. Overall, the food was quite sloppily plated. At the end of the night, it took us about 3 hours to eat and get out of there. They were incredibly busy. I think I’d come back here. It is a great place to celebrate an event and get some good food.

For such a nice place, it always seems to leave me less than impressed. The service just isn’t what it should be. The food isn’t what it should be either. Drinks take too long. For what the price range is, they need to improve. The music was awesome.

J
John Wasiuta

The food and service used to be top notch, but it’s all been downhill in recent years. The food remains good (though not excellent), but the wait staff is terrible at checking on you, asking if you want more drinks, or even simply bringing a steak knife. I had to cut my New York strip with a butter knife, because after bringing our food and promising to return with a proper knife, we didn’t see our waitress again until she came by asking if we wanted dessert, which we declined in favor of the check.

This place isn't too bad, I'd say it's one of the better "upscale" restaurants. I say that in quotation marks because it wants to be an upscale resturant but still lacking a few things to truly encapsulate the price tag and atmosphere of an upscale restaurant. I was quite disappointed in their wine selection tbh. For a resturant that boasts the biggest wine inventory, majority of it is from California. Which in my opinion they were going for quantity over variety for boasting such a thing. California has started coming up in the wine industry but again in my opinion its very basic in terms of someone who likes wines from other countries and who do it better. Then me and my guest was practically forgotten by our server. I get it I'm a server as well and understand when it gets busy, things can get hectic. But I still make sure I check on my tables. I had to get our server for every interaction after our first order of wine and a salad. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't want to interupt our conversation but I literally had to call her over when we wanted to order food and our check.

It's been several years since we've attended Funky Door. Last time it was still at the 82nd Street location. Decided to go for date night. Waitress had good timing and was very polite. Food has changed since last time as fondue cheese isn't quite what we remember but still good. Not sure what the attire is, as we had people dressed nicely as we were, but also Crocks, hats backwards, and shorts. Just a real mix for a restaurant trying to be upscale. Speaking of trying to be upscale, the dishes need some attention as well.

We made a reservation for 7PM specifically for the top floor. Upon arrival, we waited about five minutes before being seated near the live performer. I mentioned to the host that our reservation was for upstairs—normally, I wouldn’t say anything, but since it was my birthday, I was really looking forward to sitting there. We were then told the area was closed, despite the fact that two groups were already seated up there and the access to the stairs was open. Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for our server to greet us and bring waters and drinks. He mentioned he would make me a complimentary chocolatey s’mores drink, but by the end of the night, that drink never arrived. I was still charged for the one drink I did order. The food itself was good, but not quite worth $40 for a small portion of lobster mac and cheese—something a 9-year-old could probably finish. The portion size didn’t match the price, and while the food was enjoyable, it wasn’t that good. Overall, the service was about a 5/10. What was most disappointing was that my reservation wasn’t honored, and instead of the host proactively explaining the situation, I had to bring it up myself. A simple acknowledgment, like “I’m sorry, but that area isn’t available tonight,” would have gone a long way. Better yet, if the upstairs seating wasn’t an option, it shouldn’t have been available for booking in the first place.

My husband called in and made a reservation for valentines morning since he saw you serve brunch. It was the only time we could do something together because of his work schedule. We showed up at 10:15am only to find out you were not serving brunch on Valentine’s Day. Because we did not want dinner food in the morning, we left and were unable to get into another brunch place last minute. I wish the individual who booked the reservation on the phone would have informed him that brunch would not be served so he could have planned for another place.

This is one of our go-to’s when we come to Lubbock, but today’s experience was awful. We arrived for our 11:30 reservation on time, were seated upstairs. The website makes it look like you can order off the lunch menu, but nope, brunch only. A server came by pretty quickly to take our drink order and our drinks arrived 40 minutes later. Then, apps came about 15 mins later. When we received our food at 1:00, it was fine. Tables all around us were also pretty unhappy. It seemed like sending a manager up to apologize/check on tables would have been nice. It sure wasn’t our server’s fault. My daughter asked for butter for her toast, but sorry, they were out. Huh? Takeaway is-this is a dinner place, not a brunch place and request to be seated downstairs only bc things take twice as long up there.

I went last night 1/3/2026 to have dinner. Me and my date were seated right next to an area where live music would take place, of course I didn't know that there would be live music because they didn't show up until after we made our order. I couldn't hear a word my date was telling me and the most uncomfortable thing is not knowing what you're talking about because the speakers they brought were literally behind me and aimed at me. I felt that this was disrespectful and I didn't appreciate that. I did enjoy the food but, for the most part, I didn't enjoy the experience. Thanks to the singers who clearly saw that I was uncomfortable.

This venue gets extremely loud, even before the music starts. Once it DOES start, forget about having a conversation with your companions. Food is overpriced and lacking flavor, and the service staff are forgetful.

We were a party of 2 and had a party of 6 who arrived later, received their food before us. We had waited over 40 minutes between our second drinks with no appetizer before our server asked if we were ready to order food. The food was amazing but the service was horrendous. We were there for over two and a half hours on a Thursday. We have had great experiences in the past but unfortunately this experience doesn’t make me want to go back.

S
Scott Puccinelli

The main reason the rating is low is the service, which was terrible. Everything took forever, which is inexcusable when they make parties of 12 or more sign paperwork they'll pay a 20% tip. The service was worth half, no more than 10%. The food people ordered was decent, but the menu is extremely limited. It's not a good menu at all. It's also pricey for what you're ordering, at least 33% higher than what it should be. For their prices, I expect a lot more 'overall'. It is a nice looking place, which makes it very deceiving. It looks like a 5-star steakhouse, but delivers an overpriced diner.

Service was great. Restaurant was beautiful and the singer was excellent. BUT the food was hit or miss. For the price it was not worth it. Mushroom cap escargot - mushrooms were ok but the escargot was burnt. Fried shrimp had good flavor but the batter was greasy and we didn’t finish it. Chicken and gnocchi- chicken was dry. Gnocchi was ok. Spinach artichoke fondue was not fondue- that was a dip with a little fire under it. What was good? Surprisingly, the grapes appetizer. So good! The cheese sticks are not what we expected but really really good. The duck and Brussels - excellent. The burger and sweet potato fries also good.

First time trying the Funky Door. I placed a carryout order from their website for an Oklahoma Smash Burger with the truffle fries, Risotto Bacon and the Peach Cobbler. I showed up a couple minutes after the email said to be there and spoke with the hostess. I was told there was no peach cobbler and there was some confusion on the risotto bacon. I communicated that i could substitute another desert for the peach cobbler and patiently waited roughly another 10 - 15 minutes or so after arriving for the food to be ready. After getting the food and going back home I found that the truffle fries were not present . The risotto bacon was not very good, and the burger was not a smash burger at all. Overall horrible experience will not go there again nor recommend. Tip for the funky door. If you don't know how to cook what is on your own menu, I suggest taking it off of the menu.

My son picked this place for his graduation celebration from college. Although it is a bit pricy, we decided to go here because that is what he wanted and it was a special day. The place is very nicely decorated, and it is also 2 story. The staff was friendly but our waiter did not listen to our requests. He did not bring out certain things we asked for. He did not come to our table and ask how our meal was and did not come to our table very many times for refills. They were not crowded at all so there was no excuse for anything. The fondue was delicious, although it was cold and never got hot. The salmon was good, as well as the lobster mac- n- cheese . But the other meals were horrible. The chicken dish that was ordered came out super well done and so dry it could barely be swallowed and it was a little charred as well. We asked for balsamic on the side as well as asked for extra sauce, in which he brought out Tabasco sauce! The chicken breast had also been sliced in half so that it was made into 2 servings. One half on one meal and the other half for the other meal. Super tiny and thin. The other dish we ordered was fish, which we asked if we could split and he said it would cost extra to split it and that they couldn't split the fish, only the sides. Lol. SERIOUSLY?!?! The fish dish we ordered was so rubbery that if you picked it up and threw it, it would sill be in one piece . I could barely cut it with a knife! And it was so awful that I couldn't even eat it. I did not want to say anything a the table because it was a large group of people and I didn't want to embarrass my son in front of his girlfriend and best friend. And we had a 9 hour drive to get back home. So I went to the bathroom and then asked to speak with the manager and told her the situation. She was not compassionate nor sorrowful about the meal and only made excuses for the condition of the food. I told her that they should not even have sent out food in that condition in the first place ! When you pay such a high price for food, it should be served to perfection. Now I'm sure most of you know that a reputable business would have made it right but she did not offer ANYTHING for our horrible experience. Nothing was deducted from the bill and had to pay full price for horrible quality of food and service. I would think twice before choosing this place to dine!

The front door was really heavy, also the front desk floor wasn’t clean enough (like somebody didn’t clean properly) I was so sticky! The “sweet” tea I wasn’t “sweet” at all The plate I ordered was undercooked (lobster) because the color of the meat was gray almost black. The place was too noisy to have a conversation with my mom (I have no choice but to yell at her) that way she can barely hear me. Anyways bad experience for ours first time😏 We will never be back!!

The worst restaurant experience We’ve had in Lubbock so far. Yet one of the most expensive places in town. We arrived at 8Pm for our reservation. Ordered around 8:20-8:25 for our food after having one drink each. Then my salad arrived at 9:15, the server came up around 9:25 and apologized for the wait. At 9:50 I asked to speak to the manager and she went to the wrong table and went to the table next to us. 20 min later we were ready to leave. The food finally arrived. The steak I ordered RARE arrived over well done!! The place claimed the wait was over running out of steaks and having to go get them from the store 🤣🤣. Joke of a manager. Joke of a place. Don’t go!!!

Food is not good, extremely slow and soooo expensive. We got the funky chicken (gross) and the blackened salmon (flavorless). The only good things are a Beautiful interior, and the fondue is really good.

Lamb Lollipops appetizer was absolutely amazing. Proteins were really good. However, everyone's side dishes were cold... like really really cold, not even close to warm. You could tell the "seasonal vegetables" were just frozen broccoli and cauliflower. $240 + 20% tip for 3 entrées/3 drinks and everyone's side dishes were cold as ice.... veggies, mashed potatoes, risotto... everything that wasn't a protein was cold. Our waiter was super nice and treated us great. Still for a "higher end" restaurant cold food is never acceptable. The bathrooms were also pretty disgusting, the men's bathroom smelled like urine (opened the door and it was immediate) floor was also weirdly sticky.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, especially for what’s supposed to be a higher-end restaurant. From the start, the service was a mess. They told us they were experiencing a menu shortage and seemed reluctant to even seat us. After 30 minutes of waiting, we were finally seated, only to be completely ignored. We were not greeted by a waitress, offered waters, or acknowledged in any way for another 25 minutes. Once service finally began, it didn’t improve. Our cocktails took forever to come out, and the sampler appetizer was nothing special and certainly not worth the wait or the price. When our entrées arrived, it was clear the plates had been sitting under a warmer for far too long. The plates were scorching hot, and the glaze on the filet was literally burnt onto the plate. I ordered a truffle butter add-on for my steak, which arrived cold, in a tiny cup on the side. Truffle butter should be melted on top of the steak. Not served cold like an afterthought. The most disgusting part of the night was the pile of dirty dishes next to our table. Instead of being taken to the back, dirty plates and cups from other tables were stacked on the table directly beside us. It became a towering catch-all of used dishes throughout our meal. Absolutely unacceptable and unsanitary. To make matters worse, our water glasses sat empty. The one and only time our waitress checked on us, she approached with an empty water pitcher, despite four people at the table clearly needing refills. Why even come over empty-handed? We had chosen this restaurant to take our friends out to celebrate their engagement, and we left feeling completely embarrassed by the experience. And then the final insult: a 3.5% service charge added to the bill. For what service? The service was nonexistent and incredibly disappointing. This experience fell far below expectations. We will not be returning, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Every time we have came to The Funky Door, the service has been hell. They always claim the bartenders are backed up. I ordered my second drink when my first was brought. Which my first drink was brought to me 30 Minutes after ordering. My second drink came out 1 hour exactly after placing. My husbands dirty martini wasn’t dirty how he ordered it. The people sat next to us (sat before us) didn’t get their order taken 1 hours & 30 mins after being sat. Funky door needs to do better and put more effort in their service and supporting their staff. As the waiter serving us was the only one waiting the upstairs. For the 2 hours we were there, not one manager in place to assists. It wasn’t until more and more customers started to complain, did they make any effort to remedy.

John Hernandez
John Hernandez

To start, the host stand was 5 tables in so we didn't get sat at 7 at the time for our reservation. I’m guessing there were not enough servers because it seemed as if our server on the second floor was triple sat with a party of 8+, 2 top, and our table. It took until 7:18 to get our drink order and appetizer in with the server. The food runner brought us the wrong app and the first round didn’t show up until 7:41, which my martini was not dirty at all and needed to be remade. At this same time we ordered our second round and our entrees. The drinks and food didn’t come out until 8:39. Every table upstairs was audibly upset as was ours. The food, however, was delicious. This was not also the first terrible experience we had here. The first couple times we gave grace, but this was the last straw.

We went here last night and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a steakhouse. We went for our anniversary dinner after seeing the review & recommendations & let me tell you these reviews are not the truth. The steak me and my husband got tasted and looked like it came out of a frozen box. Didn’t look fresh nor was it juicy like a steak should be. The mashed potatoes also tasted like they came from a box. The server took forever to take our order. Save your money & go to another chain steakhouse or somewhere else in town! We left and my steak wasn’t even finished & had to go to get food elsewhere. So much steak was not even edible , & mind you we went at 4:30 when there was nobody there.
