Opinions de The Church Inn Ludlow
Had lunch today in this really lovely inn, in the centre of Ludlow. There’s usually a warm woodburner glowing to greet the customers when the weather turns cold and damp. We were very grateful for that today. Staff always pleasant and the food and beverages delicious. Especially the Ludlow Gold Ale. Nice ambiance inside, and the food came fairly quickly. I would highly recommend this inn for a hearty warming hot lunch.
I didn't stay here. I came to the restaurant and had dinner on a Sunday night. The food and wines were excellent. I really enjoyed my starter of Chicken liver parfait, and I was bowled over by my mains of roast pork, with five wonderfully prepared vegetables crowned by a huge yorkshire pudding. I have to say that it has been a long time since I have savoured British food this good. Most impressed. Recommend highly!
Sunday Lunch. Nut roast was excellent. A really lovely plate of food. Very happy campers with a pint of Ludlow brewery ale. Sat upstairs with nice view of church and houses. A really well run place. Clean and the gents are well worth a visit just to see the urinals and instructions.
Didn’t stay here, just had an evening meal, which was…..genuinely, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The starters were amazing and the mains were amazing. Could not fault this food at all. It was well presented and tasted phenomenal. There were 3 of us in total. We had starters of: slow roasted belly draught bites, cheese soufflé and fish cakes in a Thai Red curry sauce. They were all so tasty, words cannot describe how good the cheese soufflé was For mains, we had: Steak and ale pie, chicken cordon bleu Caesar salad and chips and pumpkin with squash tortellini, all of which were to die for
We had a fantastic meal here 🙂 All the plates came out looking and smelling fantastic, and everything was cooked very well Easily one of the best mix-grills I've had for some time!
Lovely old pub with a warm atmosphere. Good range of ales and great food.
We did not stay at the hotel so cannot comment on the rooms. The food was excellent expertly cooked and well presented. It was a difficult choice to make but I had the rabbit.
I didn't stay at the Church Inn so cannot comment on the rooms, but my family and I visited Ludlow for a few hours and stopped off here for lunch. I had the pie and chips and can confirm that it is a proper pie rather than a glorified casserole! By that, I mean it is fully encased in pastry, rather than being served in a dish with a pastry lid. The staff were very friendly and the food came out promptly. Food, service, and venue were all great - would recommend the Church Inn.
What a brilliant place - couldn’t recommend enough! Came here today (sunday) and literally every member of staff has been so friendly and attentive. Their vegan options are DELICIOUS, varied and felt actually healthy yet yummy. We had the vegan cheese sharer and then the broad bean asparagus gnocchi! Staff always checked if all okay and gave honest and great recommendations So great! Thank you!
Definitely recommend. The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient. They all worked quickly to serve food and drinks. They were attentive, topping up water and drinks for the table without being imposing. The food was excellent 👌 and a good size portion. We were spoilt for choice. Already planning our next visit. Loved the games board on some of the tables.
Stopped here on the off chance after a day spent walking with partner and two dogs. Pleased to see that they were still offering Sunday roast in the evening and had a fabulous roast lamb meal. Friendly staff, quick service and amazing food.........dog friendly too!!
We had not booked a table and the restaurant was fully booked and they still managed to find us a table. The food was very good and the service was excellent.
Stayed during this week and was really blown away with the room, food ,staff and location.Would highly recommend to anyone.
We enjoyed an early evening meal last Saturday and the service was spot on! The food was really nice and they had a good selection of beers and wines at the bar.
Excellent unpretentious pub food. Everything appeared to be made in house, and nothing tasted like it had come out of the freezer. Even the mushy peas seemed freshly produced. Range of four cask ales in good condition to boot.
Room was beautiful and clean. Food was absolutely amazing and the staff go above and beyond on welcoming us to serving us our evening meal. Look forward to coming back again. Thanks
Great location. Warm and friendly environment. Good wines and service. The food was excellent. I had the ribeye with "cowboy butter" - my compliments to the cowboy! It was delicious.
We stayed at the Church Inn for one night and we really wish we could've stayed longer. The pub itself is lovely with a great selection of beer and the food smelled delicious. Our room was excellent and we loved the balcony overlooking the church next door. The location of the pub is very central, walking distance to the castle and there are plenty of other cracking pubs and restaurants nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed our breakfast, plenty of choice on the menu and very tasty coffee. Could not recommend the Church Inn highly enough
Really enjoyed our stay. Bar is nice with good selection of beers and spirits including local selection from Ludlow distillery. Nice beer garden in the church garden. Room with balcony overlooking the church. Was spotlessly clean with some nice touches, bottled water, toiletries and an easy to use coffee pod machine. Note the church bell tolls frequently, we like this but if your not into it then Ludlow generally isn't for you. Service was great, staff are lovely and helpful. Thanks so much! 😁👍
The Church Inn is a great place This old-school pub has loads of character and the food is top-notch. The staff are super friendly too. If you're in Ludlow, it's definitely worth checking out.
Didn’t stay here, had lunch. Super delicious fresh food. Fab service too
My first experiences of Ludlow generally and it was bitterly cold. The pub was full, and warm, with many variably behaved dogs on leads. The Butty Bach (a Wye Valley brewery ale) was excellent but the wine list was also extensive and knowledgeable. The food was great, served quickly and efficiently by friendly staff who were keeping an eye on the whole area. It was a lovely welcoming find.
We had lunch here and it was lovely. Beautiful pub, with log fire, board games built into lots of their tables which is fun, so the games are available to play on some tables for free. We had the hot dog and fish finger bap and they were lovely, crispy batter on the fresh fish goujons, lovely brioche roll, nice crispy chips. Good size for lunch. Good drinks selection as well. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, felt really comfortable, would visit again next time we are in Ludlow. Thanks
My wife and i andtwo friends had a meal on Saturday night it was probably the best meal we have ever had the cheese souffle was absolutely delicious and every one was delighted with the service and ambience we could not recommend it highly enough
Staff managed to find the two of us a table to eat - we hadn’t booked ahead - thank you. It was mussels night and I thoroughly enjoyed them - my wife had the pea ravioli and it was lovely. Beer was nice and the staff made time to interact with us during our meal and drinks ordering. A great find and we were glad we walked through their doors!!!!
What a very nice place to visit, staff all very good and helpful. Lack of parking here at this Inn, but there is a carpark about 400 yards away where you can leave your car, it is very safe also. All in all a very good experience with our stay in The Church.
Smack in the middle of town. Clean and tidy, really lovely rooms (stayed in 2 and 4 as had to stay another night last minute with work). Highly recommended.
Had a lovely meal and service at the Church Inn pub. We have a small well behaved dog but who is nervous (of other dogs, too much stimulation etc). They accommodated us at a table with a bench so he could sit up with us, which we very much appreciated. All the staff were warm, friendly and very helpful and the food was excellent too! Would go again in an instant, and recommend to others.
Fabulous Sunday lunch. Excellent service. Right in centre of town Must visit
Lovely food, very lovely service, dog friendly and generally all round a great experience!
Lovely room!! We really enjoyed our stay here. The bed was nice and comfortable, toiletries along with coffee making bits were provided. Good view over Ludlow town, although you can hear quite a lot from outside due to the period windows but it didnt bother us. Wish we had of stayed longer and we will certainly stay again. Pictures don't do it justice at all.
Great pub in the centre of Ludlow, good selection of beers and nice range of food - the halloumi burger was delicious - and if nice weather outside, try getting a seat in the beer garden in the churchyard behind the pub! (summer only naturally)
Very lovely bed and breakfast on top of a lovely pub. Right next to the cathedral so top location.
Only had a couple of pints and it was an unusual pub but really really busy. Pleasant enough though.
Didn't stay overnight just had drinks only not food, lovely little pub beside the church, with the beer garden actually in the church grounds which I liked, good beer, good atmosphere, love the games tables dotted around, a very enjoyable visit 👍
Two hungry cyclists had Sunday dinner. A whole roast chicken and accompanying vegetables. It was very good, well cooked and presented. Also an excellent bottle of Romanian Pinot Noir. Great service too.
Quite busy late in the evening after a gig at the Assembly Rooms - which are just across the square - and only 1 barman on, but he was very friendly and quick as he could. Lovely selection of draught beer and ale and Gins.
Reyt pub,staff brilliant,lager ded reyt today.Stumbled across the pub,glad I did.
It was alright. Just wanted a pint but all tge tables reserved for dinners. Didn't want to stand so had to negotiate sitting at someone's table
This is restaurant style food NOT pub grub! Quality meals and good service in a relaxed setting. Menu range a little short perhaps; sign of the times no doubt.
Waitress wasn’t very polite, no manners. Shame because the food was delicious and the buildings’ architecture is historic.
Why it wasn't 5 for location was because of being next to big church with bells going off from 7am in morning. But if you're a heavy sleeper no problem. Great rooms, so tidy! Would definitely stay there again if I went back to Ludlow.
We normally love to come here to sit in the church beer garden under old trees. Lovely venue. We've never used it as hotel and cannot comment on the rooms. We have also not tried the food. It's great for drinks usually but this was a busy weekend with performances at the castle and a lot of visitors. Most places were prepared for it and so they should be. They knew what to expect. Unfortunately bar staff were slow and not very efficient. A lot of time wasted to queue for drinks so we only stayed for one. The queue was so long and annoyingly, people kept dropping in from the street, ignoring the queue and ordered directly at the bar. Staff didn't react or direct them to the queue which was really annoying so we had to say something. Poorly managed. Otherwise nice place.
Wanted somewhere to have dinner, lots of seating upstairs so don't be put off if there are no tables down styairs. Good service and nice menu
Didn't stay just evening meal. My fish pie was underwhelming. The shortest of shortcrust pastry tops and a third-filled pot below. All the fish items overcooked in a disappointing sauce. On the positive side, the pub offered a pleasant atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Decent Christmas dinner, but felt a bit overpriced for the quality. The food was okay—standard pub/restaurant fare—but some of the sides felt a little mass-produced. Service was friendly enough, but the meal itself didn't quite live up to the festive hype
A good pub and their draught beers are good. Their wines,in my opinion, are overpriced but a lot of pubs do the same - I think the simple answer is to not buy their wine !
Very poor food took wrong order for husband so while redid his meal mine must of been left on side not hot plate as when back luck warm meal not much on plates for price not mussy peas some other? VERY disappointed looking forward to nice lunch with a glass of wine (doesn't come close)poor pub grub at best on complaining meal cold not even an apology never mind discount/free drink nothing !! All afternoon my husband has said" don't get much or your money do you" and NO you don't cry poor very disappointed
Have to say the quality's of what these guys are serving as food leaves a lot to be desired. Olives for a starter in a stupid plastic tub with a toothpick. Not sure why but I expected it might actually come with a plate or a bit of bread but no. Very disappointed for sure.
We ate at the Church Inn on 06/08/25, we had read the excellent reviews and were looking forward to our meal. As the rabbit was no longer available I ordered the steak, I asked for blue (or as rare as possible) and it came medium to well done I.e. massively over cooked. Frustrating because i did ask the waitress if blue would be possible and she said it would. My partner ordered the fish which was nicely cooked and came with chunky triple cooked chips whilst the steak was served with fast food fries. The service was slow (50 minutes from order to service) and the meal very underwhelming. The rum baba for example was extremely disappointing.....the key component, rum, being absent. The staff were nice but seemed rushed off their feet for a Wednesday night. On reflection, we would not go back given the other options available in Ludlow, value for money wise we found it quite poor.
