This is a lovely English pub. We stayed for one night on our return from Wales. The rooms are very nice and the pub itself is charming, as were the locals. The biggest surprise was the extraordinarily fabulous food!! The menu is innovative and modern, and each dish was cooked to perfection. We were fortunate to meet Cad the chef who was friendly and very unassuming, considering his amazing talent. Great experience all round

Stayed here one night, not far from Bewdley and Ludlow. Nice quiet location near a small pretty village. Friendly staff, food is very generous and nicely cooked. Rooms are very clean, only issue is in the rooms in the little new build cottages you can hear your neighbours. On saying this it didn't detract from our stay, would recommend this pub for food and accommodation.

We had lunch for 8 plus baby and a dog. Very friendly and helpful staff. Interior was nicely decorated and very clean. Food was excellent. A shame we were only on holiday as we would definitely have been back. Would thoroughly recommend.

The Hopton Crown is a great find. It is well situated and easy to find, only 5 minutes outside Cleobury Mortimer. There is a large car park. The hotel is very impressive, with lots of quirky features. The inside is well laid out, well maintained and nicely presented. The rooms are very clean, well decorated and functional, with very comfy beds. Breakfast, which was included, was well presented and tasted delicious. It was a buffet help yourself, with a choice of 4 hot dishes for main. The staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel was well priced and excellent value for money. On the whole, well worth a visit and next time, I hope to stay longer and sample the evening meals. I will return.

An absolutely amazing and beautiful little country pub in Shropshire. Great location for exploring the local area. Close to local amenities. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Food was incredible! And had 2 delicious breakfasts too. The room was clean, comfy and very cosy. Super quiet too! Would recommend staying and dining here!!

Had a beer in the bar - beautiful place low ceiling, snaking layout and very homely. Recommended.

We visited this pub as it subscribes to BritStops and we belong to that club. The Staff are very friendly and the food and beer are great. The pub is clean. We didn't stay overnight in the car park this time but it's definitely worthy of another visit. Many thanks.

The food and drinks are good and fairly priced. We enjoyed the warm atmosphere. It was open on most days over Christmas, and we celebrated both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve there. The regulars are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, as are the staff.

A fabulous stay, with superb hospitality! A group of us stayed here on Saturday night for dinner, bed and breakfast - The rooms were well appointed and clean, food was excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere in the pub was warm and friendly. Karen & her team were exceptional hosts and really looked after us all. Thank you very much and see you all again soon!

Me and my wife had a wonderful anniversary dinner together. We had a waitress, Lily, she was kind enough to take a photo of us together and served us very politely. Thank you for a lovely meal, compliments to the chef!

Popped in to ask if they were dog friendly and as they are we stayed for Sunday lunch. Food was delicious, served quickly and I ping hot. Lovely, related atmosphere and friendly staff. Really enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend

A lovely country inn in a stunning part of the country. The food is good old fashioned pub grub, done really well. The rooms are comfy and clean. The staff are charming. It seems to be popular with the locals, and they were friendly and welcoming to us. Will definitely return.

Stayed with all my family for the weekend Staff could not do enough for us from organising tables for us all to eat to ensuring we had everything we needed Food was great Sunday lunch massive rooms clean tidy and comfortable Thanks to all for a great weekend stay

The building was lovely, real old character and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. Jo's Breakfasts were to die for! The food in the evening was so tasty, just check which days you book as they aren't open all evenings which didn't affect our plans too much. Would definitely stay again if we end up in that neck of the woods.

Knackering if you plan on cycling over there, even the smaller rooms are nice and cozy, the food is a bargain and they offer quite large portions

We stayed just one night and can't fault. All the staff were so friendly. The service was excellent. We had a meal on the evening and the breakfast was excellent. All the food we had was all cooked to perfection and well presented. Our room was really comfortable and the tea making facilities were plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were welcoming. All the rooms were full and that did not affect the service at all. I would highly recommend and would stay again.

The Hopton Crown is a real little gem. We had a beautifully decorated, warm and comfortable room with an enormous bathroom, which was immaculately clean. The pub has a great range of beers, wines and ciders and a good menu selection. Our food was absolutely delicious. The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we only stayed one night! We will definitely be back.

Lovely place to stay - our room was spotlessly clean, bed was comfy and the service was great. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the evening and breakfast was perfect, good choice of hot and cold. We'll definitely be back!

Had an overnight stay at this charming old coaching inn because of work. The room I had was lovely, clean and spacious (watch to low beams if you are tall though) Staff were polite and friendly and while the meal menu doesn't have the largest choice, the quality of the food was very good. I have given the location 5 stars but that is subjective on what you require. The Inn is out in the countryside in a small village but next to a road (it is a coaching inn after all) but I can honestly say I slept very well.

A nice, comfortable pub to stay. Good food and drinks available and very welcoming. Thank you! 🙏🏽

We only stayed one night at the crown but our stay was very pleasant, the room was very old, with a nice twist of modern, we had an evening meal which as per the photos was absolutely epic, Stephen that showed us to our room and cooked our evening meal was extremely attentive in both aspects. And even though the staff are really young they are all a credit to the establishment

Myself and My girlfriend stayed weekend of the 11/12 June 2021 We stayed in the Duck Pond Cottage with a hot-tub. We were so impressed with the accommodation, very clean and all the essentials you would need for a mini break, pots/pans etc. We didn’t use them though as we used the pub and restaurant, the food was fantastic! My girlfriend really impressed with her steak and I had a burger, which was also very nice and well presented. The staff were amazing also, a special mention to Tyler and Aimee, who went above and beyond they were very friendly and extremely helpful! Thanks again! We will be back! Pete and Jess

Very lovely stay, we stayed in the king suite and the room was stunning, especially the bathroom!! The staff were all very friendly as I booked this for my Boyfriends birthday treat the staff went the extra mile to make it special for him! Easy drive to Ludlow and other places, would stay again if nearby!

Quiet pub found on a long walk. Good beer. Food looked good. Seemed to have a reasonable local following. Nice enough but bit bare decor in places.

This is a beautiful place. We had a blowout close by and we went to the hotel for help. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness. Nothing was to much for them. The hotel itself was a real oldy worldy type from the outside but with all the mod cons inside. The menu was superb and inside you feel like its home from home. Id definately recomend this hotel and we will definately be stopping off again but under better circumstances.

Lovely pub nice location. The staff are great. Evening menu nice food bit pricey. Overall we would stay there again.

Just popped in for a quick pint whilst waiting for the vets and it's so nice, great Butty Bach ale, nice service and friendly locals. Also dog friendly which is fab.

Nice place just watch your head on the low beams. I learned the hard way. A sign wouldn't go a miss. My room was very spacious and clean. I had the fish and chips and it wasn't bad,. Chips were a bit over done for my liking. Nice size fish thou.

We travelled with my elderly father and our ground floor rooms were well suited to our needs - especially the dog who was well pleased with the garden accessible from our room in the cottage. Our evening meal was lovely but the 2 enormous pieces of fish served to Dad were just too much. Breakfast was very good 👍. Location and access to Ludlow and Cleobury Mortimer was great.

A good stop during a Saturday walk in March. Don’t let the somewhat sad looking parking/exterior tables deter you. It was v nice! Food was good (we had fries, pâte & a nice risotto) and staff was friendly. We sat outside but peeked inside and interior is far nicer than exterior would make you believe. Also dog friendly! Well worth a stop.

We popped in for dinner on our way home. Service was very attentive and friendly, the food and drinks were served quickly. The food was nice but the menu was very limited. Overall nice experience.

On the coldest day this year, we found our room was very cold, the heating came on for only an hour morning and night. On our 2nd day we were given a heater, which helped massively. The restaurant was good. Breakfast was good. We left a day early to go home where we can have our heat on when we need it. But we would consider coming back in the Spring, it would be lovely to visit again.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Perfect for a one night stay. Dinner wasn't the greatest and the portions were far too big. Breakfast was very nice.

Torn on this review. 6 stars for the food but 4 for the room. Room was large (room 3 in old part of house) tastefully decorated and had a large bathroom with shower over bath. The bed was a little firm for my taste and also very warm (despite no heating and windows wide open). Had fan on all night and wasn’t a warm night. Dinner was superb, one of the best pub meals I have had in the Uk. Seems a new chef started recently and it was very good and very good value. Mackerel with beetroot and horseradish was stupidly delicious, the mains were fabulous. The potatoes with the chicken nearly made me cry and the bream with chorizo and capers was soooo good. Lemon posset pudding was fab but for me too sweet, but no cheese option. Breakfast was very good quality with excellent sausage and bacon. No corner cutting with ingredients here. Lovely location between Shrewsbury and Kidderminster. Highly recommended.

Lovely quiet place to stay, felt very cosy. Nice room, could’ve done with a few more ‘furnishings’ as was a bit basic but was expected with the fair price of our room. We would stay again if in the area!

Went for Sunday lunch, the online booking said no tables were available but we went anyway and there were only a couple of tables being used? The menu was limited only beef or ham for the roast. The food was of exceptional standard, the brie starter was lovely and the roast beef was lovely thick slices and cooked to perfection with proper fresh vegetables. My wife had the rissoto which she loved. Would recommend

The Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and it is a historic place with big fireplaces in the main bar. For some reason the satnav puts you on the other side of the road but as the hotel is visible it's not a problem. However, apart from a disabled toilet in the main building on the ground floor and a ramp into a sort of side entrance into the reception area, this hotel isn't terribly wheelchair friendly. There are stairs to and from an outside seating/smoking area, and the bathroom in the room we stayed in had no disabled facilities at all. I can understand the lack in the main building but the downstairs rooms should have some provision. Even the corridors were a little tight to turn a wheelchair round in. Otherwise it was fine. Food was good, (this was not greasy spoon Café style dining), beer prices were OK but a little on the expensive side and the staff were excellent, even the local regulars we spoke with were very friendly and a lot of fun to spend time with. Worth a punt if you're staying in the area. Be warned though, there isn't much around that doesn't take at least 10 mins by car and phone reception is very poor.

Didn’t sleep here but came for a meal in the evening. Staff lovely, service efficient and food was lovely. Had the fish and chips, rib eye steak and veggie burger. All of it was delicious.

I understand why some reviews mention the road proximity and noise, the sometimes very slow restaurant and breakfast service and the (oddly) rather tight timings for breakfast (from 0830 for one hour). We experienced all these things. ....but hey, this was a leisure trip with a celebratory purpose, and we all wish to thank the young front of house staff for listening and trying very hard to help out wherever they could. They alone went above and beyond, and that helped a lot.

Hi we only went for a meal. I wished I had read the revue about the steak. Medium to rare, absolutely no colour on the steak. I complained, that didn't get anywhere So our dog did well. 4 out of 10

We were guests at a nearby wedding and the Crown was booked by someone else. Being a wheelchair user a ground floor room was vital and the hotel were able to oblige. The room is not disabled adapted but we managed fine. There was a good dinner and an excellent breakfast.

Haven't eaten there but they do a nice pint of Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach. I go in the odd Wednesday and Thursday early evening as it's only across the road from my farm. Lovely old fashioned pub, very quiet, watch out for the low beams though, my son and my neighbour constantly hit their heads(they're both over 6ft)😂

M

The staff were great and the facilities were good but the menu in the restaurant was too fancy for people with vanilla tastes. I had a turkey dinner which was overseasoned and left most of it. Personally I am not sure I would stay there again.

Staff were very friendly and the pub is in a really nice setting. Lovely building and great outdoor seating. Food wasn't up to much to be honest. Very greasy but the staff were excellent. Wouldn't come back other than to sit in the beer garden

Waited over two hours for the room to have the heating turned on as room was freezing up on arrival. 1st room was not fit for purpose in my opinion due to poor decor as there was flaking paint hanging down in patches in the bathroom, I also had to point out the multiple cobwebs to the manager after she told me that the cleaners were very thorough and diligent, I beg to differ! There was no proper wardrobe in the room only a metal hanging frame,no hairdryer in the room the room was not fit for business. We were moved to next doors room that was at least "finished" but again not in any way special! We were very close to asking for a refund and returning home but stuck it out. Next morning we waited over 30 mins to get a cup of coffee, and then another 15 mins to get our "full Shropshire breakfast" consisting of 1 sausage,1 egg,1 small rasher,1 spoonful of beans and not even 1 mushroom as it was 1 slice of mushroom!! Overall very disappointing and we won't return.

Booked a table on Sunday for 2.30pm. Told on arrival that no roasts left. No chicken, pork or potatoes left. Remaining menu fairly basic. No sourdough bread with Pate and chicken, leek and ham pie (lacking 2 out 3 ingredients) together with lots of fries and peas swamped in fairly strong flavoured gravy. One of the worst pub meals experienced.......

F
Fiona Higgo

We stopped in for lunch. Staff were friendly and the bar and restaurant area was warm and cosy. Unfortunately, the food was really not up to par. Hubby had the gammon and eggs; the gammon was very tough. I had the cider battered cod, which was very bland, with too much batter, and the fish wasn’t cooked quite enough. At the table next to ours, the gentleman had to send back his roast lunch and order something else as the beef was gristly and inedible. Sad, because it’s a nice spot, but with a limited menu, you’d think they’d get every item spot on. Sadly that wasn’t the case.

My wife and I stayed at the Hopton Crown near Ludlow yesterday Friday/ Saturday 18/9/2020. Our stay was reasonably pleasant. However information of the hotel service procedures were not given upon checking in, and there was no information in the room other than a piece of paper on the bed with covid restrictions concerning laundry, towels and room service. This became a problem when we arrived downstairs at 9.38 Saturday morning for breakfast. We were told to our surprise breakfast had finished at 9.30. We protested that this seemed rather early for a weekend. The receptionist informed us she would ask the chef if he could do something for us. We proceeded to wait in the eating area where it appeared there was no evidence of any breakfast being served at all. All the tables were empty with no evidence of breakfast being served. We were then told the chef wasn't prepared to offer us anything, not even an boiled egg or even a drink, as he started lunches.I find it hard to understand why breakfast should finish at 9.30 and as to why we couldn't be offered any form of a breakfast, being that we were only 8 minutes late. My gut feeling is that breakfast weren't offered at all although we were charged. The receptionist offered us 15%discount £11 we feel this was inadequate due to most breakfasts costing at least £10 pp. We feel it is our duty to let booking.com know how aggrieved we feel. We then had to travel quite a distance to find breakfast at a cost of £19 20. We feel we should at least be compensated for this total. All in all very disappointed Won't be staying again

D
David Owen

Impossible to contact! I've phoned repeatedly, and have been put through to voicemail. Each time I've left my number (as requested), and have heard nothing back. I phoned reception, and was told I had to phone the number from which I've had no response. I've also emailed, again with no reply. Does not inspire confidence, and I'm giving up on them. Shame, but appears to be hopeless customer service.

The room was clean and tidy and was beautifully decorated. The service however was awful. I stayed here B&B whilst working away however, when i went for breakfast (which only runs from 8:30 - 9:30) i was greeted with a small dining area (approx 7 tables) 3 of which where occupied but had 3 large dogs. A small family with a young girl was present she approached one of the dogs and it barked at her, the owner then resorted to hitting the dog..i had only been in the room a few minutes. I waited approx 5 min more the girl was still screaming and nobody had even come to see take my order but knew i was there. Such a shame, i will never likely be in the area again so im unlikely to go back ut this house of horrors has left a lasting impression. Why do you think it is acceptable to bring animals into a food area in this day and age is beyond me. Needless to say due to work commitments i went nearly all day without anything to eat due to the area being quite rural...very disappointed by the whole experience if im honest.

T
Tanya Cork

This used to be a nice place for a drink, new staff owners found to be extremely rude, wine glasses were not clean, when asked for a dry glass was advised “that’s just how they come”! I don’t think this would be acceptable in any decent pubs or restaurants. Bar closed stop serving at 9.30 and customers were given cold shoulder by staff, rude, avoid!!

C
Carol Kitson

Room basic needs a bit of tlc. Knife was broken no pan in the oven to cook with. Evening meal shocking asked for med to well done steak and the blood was running round the plate. Had poached egg for breakfast had to spit if out as all I could taste was white vinegar. 2nd time staying here. The chef needs to go and they need to reevaluate there menu cause the one on their website is nothing like the one you get.
