This is Manchester’s little gem! Food is incredible and staff are amazing. It never fails to deliver. Highly recommend
Fantastic delicious tapas, absolutely brilliant if you are vegetarian. We were a large group and the staff rightly steered us to the set menus. The choice was brilliant, service quick. They could have looked after us more by offering more drinks. But overall an excellent place and we will definitely go again. Highly recommended.
If you want traditional Tapas then Volta is the place for you. Situated on Burton Road in West Didsbury it's easily accessible by bus and the metrolink. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. 10 out of 10 everytime.
Great restaurant - I visited with friends, and it's the perfect place to try a variety of small or sharing dishes. Everything was delicious, service was quick and friendly, and I was actually very surprised when the bill came at how reasonable it was! Highlights were definitely the goat cheese croquettes with honey, the whole sea bass and the purple carrots. I'd definitely return!
Nice little restaurant with cozy ambiance. We went there for lunch and they have this £15 for 3 small plates deal, the portions were, as it says, small but the food was surprisingly delicious. The chef works magic on the most ordinary ingredients such as potatoes and cabbages, glad we ordered both because they were amazingly good 👍🏻👍🏻
Pre Christmas treat from my son for a few family crew....I'm quite particular about food but VOLTA hit all the right spots and the menu was F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S. if you like Tapas....give this place a visit..
Great place for small plates and VOLTA experience is such great value with variation in dishes. Preference is book for upstairs table for as I found the downstairs can be more for drinkers
What a gem, our first meal out of lockdown and it couldn’t have been better. The service was friendly and super attentive. We tried not far off everything on the menu and every single plate was a hit, such good quality food, fresh and full of flavours. The cocktails were also nice and the outdoor seating are was well set out post Covid. We’ll 100% be back again and I’d highly recommend them. The chicken skewers and the Goats cheese were my stand out faves!
I've been coming here now on and off for a number of years and I've really not had a bad experience. The staff are always considerate, friendly and helpful so you can't go wrong for a good experience if you're visiting for a drink or something to eat. Weekend dinner reservations are a must. I don't think I've ever seen a table on a Saturday night that doesn't have a reserved notice on it. The food is absolute class. Small plates menu gives plenty of choice and opportunity, often with new dishes offered to give every visit a new twist. Vibrant worldly dishes that will impress you time and time again. Nothing is spared in delivering absolute quality every time. Vast drinks menue with real ales being changed almost bi-weekly and a good choice of wines and fizz. Personally enjoy the house prosecco and cava which seem to relatively compliment most dishes but if you feel like pushing the boat out they offer a fantastic tattinger brut, enjoyable every time. Photos include the dishes I tried this evening. One dish I actually ordered again as it was so enjoyable (Shanghai pork bao).
Enjoyed a great Sunday roast with some family friends. Restaurant has a lovely setting and feel. Staff were attentive and friendly. The roasts were of a good size and were great quality. Would recommend the beef and the side of cauliflower cheese. The sticky toffee pudding was fabulous and would definitely recommend also.
Really nice Sunday roast, decent price to value ratio, recommend getting the stuffing balls! Only issue was that sitting inside was quite loud due to small venue and one particularly loud table.
The Sunday roast is 10/10. Best in Manchester! I shared the platter with my friend, the pork is unreal. It's such a good price as well for what you get, definitely good value. It was £21 each for the platter (we got some extra pigs in blankets on the side). We also had a sticky toffee pudding to share, which again was off the chart. Definitely head down to West Didsbury for a roast at Volta. The staff are fantastic too!
Loved it. Lovely welcome, lovely decor. Popular place but still chilled. The food was amazing. Lots of choices for me as a veggie. All dishes were mega tasty. My top 3 Hispi cabbage Lime sorbet Aubergine and miso (with flat bread) My wife loved the steak and the lentils, followed by cheesecake for desert. Loved the cocktails as well
The food is great here and the service is friendly. We're vegetarian and found plenty of options on the menu. Plus, they were all really tasty. We'd booked a table inside for a late lunch but ended up sitting outside in their covered seating area as it turned out to be a nice day, and the air-con made it quite chilly inside. I 1000% recommend it here, and I'll definitely be back.
We had lovely dinner here, they are quite busy but still very helpful and friendly service. The aubergine miso dip and the dry fried green beans are very impressive. 6 tapas are plenty for two of us to share. Dog friendly and smoking friendly if you sit outdoors. Overall, a very local but tasty place to go. Will definitely come back again.
Lovely atmosphere, this was my first time visiting Volta. Staff were friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and not too long a wait. The overall look of the place inside is spot-on for a dimly-lit date night. Im not sure I’m dying to go back as a regular place as nothing majorly stood out, but I would still give it the 5 stars.
Amazing place to visit. Such great quality food and drinks. Definitely visit for the Sunday roast - you won't be disappointed. Bonus is that they are great for accommodating dietary issues so I can have both a vegan and gluten free Sunday roast ❤️
Loved loved loved our evening at Volta. Every dish was superb - delicious combinations, perfectly seasoned - great food. The service was exceptional. We requested that the light above our table be dimmed or turned off because it was quite bright - no problem, our request was granted with a smile. One of us had allergies to nuts and sesame - again no problem, quite the opposite - a special grid was brought to us to reassure us that our choices were free of nuts and sesame (though prepared in a kitchen where nuts and sesame are present which was fine with us). And finally we asked for a couple of candles on a pudding as we were celebrating a birthday and this was done too. My only negative comment is that the service charge is too low at 10% - it should be at least 12.5% so we left a bit extra in cash. Thank you so much for a great evening!
This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in years. It has a super interesting and eclectic menu and a really chilled out vibe. I ate outside on the terrace and really enjoyed a fab glass of white with some mushroom croquettes, tandoori monkfish with cucumber chutney, even the brocolli was good!!!
Stumbled in here by chance and weren’t disappointed. Pork and the potatoes w/aioli were a particular highlight. Service was attentive & friendly with good drinks selection too. Would definitely be back!
Excellent food in a great venue! Friendly service and wide choice of drinks 👍🏻
Food was amazing !! Would definitely recommend and go back again ! We got the set menu every plate was perfection ❤️
Lovely menu and food selection. A little bit on the pricy side but the service was great and good, fresh food. The allergy menu was really handy and the wine selection was small but excellent. Great for couples and groups. Not particularly geared towards families but we went for a family birthday meal with three young children and they were very accommodating.
The main menu (small plates) and weekend roast menu are both exceptional. Visited recently and can comfortably say it's the best meal I've had in a looooooooong time.
Amazing food, specially the feta cheese and the fries! Slightly pricey in my opinion, specially because it's tapas-portions but the space is comfy and the staff is always ready to help and fun!
Great place, great atmosphere and loved the food. Came here for a Sunday roast because me and my boyfriend wanted to try somewhere new and we weren't disappointed. The place was busy but thankfully we had booked in advance and ordered the platter for two, and my days was it yummy. It was really filling and everything was cooked beautifully. The staff were wonderfully friendly and chilled.
The Sunday lunch lives up to it's reputation. Very good indeed. Good service and nice buzzy vibe.
we sat outside and had the set menu of sharing plates and it was amazing as someone who always wants to try a bit of everything, and Pippa our server was so friendly and helpful!
Came here for a Sunday roast and it did NOT disappoint. Best roast I've had in a very long time. Beautifully cooked beef, tonnes of fresh veg and lashings of hot gravy. Reasonably priced, decent atmosphere and very very friendly staff. Will be back in a heart beat!!!
We had the Volta experience and all of it was lush. Highlights were the aubergine dip, the steak and the goats cheese! I’ve eaten the roast here, and also great. The drinks are fab and staff attentive. A firm didsbury fave.
Gorgeous small plates, everything we ordered was a delight. Favourite dishes: bavette steak, scallops and the hispi cabbage was to die for! There was also so many gorgeous veggie and vegan options. I can't wait to return.
Went on Saturday evening and from the minute we sat down the service was perfect. Great margaritas and brilliant wine menu too. The food was outstanding and stands up to any of the new kids on the block in Mcr. Group of 5 and we ordered pretty much the entire menu of small plates. Each one well considered and thought out. Notable highlights were the buratta/tomatoes, the cod, and the crispy goats cheese drenched in honey. It was so good that we even ordered one of each of the puds. All outstanding, the STP was up there with the best I've had. Will return soon. Thanks Volta for a great evening.
It isn't the cheapest place, and being a Burton Road establishment it's not large either, so if you're visiting at a busy time (Fridays and the weekends from experience), it's worth booking. But it's it worth going? Oh yes! A fantastic selection of small dishes (think tapas, but not specifically Spanish - there's influences from all over here), complemented by an excellent selection of inventive cocktails (as well as wine and a nice beer selection, if that's more your thing). Vegan options are rather slim, but there's a good vegetarian selection (my other half is willing to compromise for a night out, thankfully!). The staff are fantastic -- friendly and happy to recommend pairings of dishes and drinks, and the quality does not disappoint.
Family Sunday lunch. Really enjoyable Sunday lunch. Pork roast superb. Rustic set up - room just about warm enough. Good Malbec by the glass. Efficient friendly service.
Recommend ordering the ‘volta experience’, shared between 3 people, we were stuffed.
Volta has a fantastic atmosphere and the food was genuinely delicious—great vibes all around. However, I’d be wary of the set sharing menu if you are a group of five. We felt the portion sizes and the number of dishes were identical to the set menu for four people, yet it cost significantly more. It felt like we paid a 'fifth person premium' without actually getting any extra food. Great spot, but maybe stick to the a la carte if you're a larger group.
A nice and intimate restaurant serving small plates. Service was good and quick and everything was well presented. Food wasn’t as good as I expected from the reviews but will definitely go back to try out some other dishes. Roast potatoes were amazing, shawarma was very good and the pitta was good and so soft too! Didn’t rate the steak which was too charred for my liking & I wasn’t a fan of the sauce it came with. I couldn’t imagine ever not liking halloumi but the sauce ruined it for me and the courgette that came with it was bland and tough. The feta dip was nice but wouldn’t order again. Glad I went on the 3 for £15 lunch offer which is until 5pm on weekdays.
Food superb , atmosphere great with a lovely cosy ambience .However , the waiting staff who served the food were sullen and disinterested . I appreciate the table is only booked for a certain period but honestly it was like being on count down .
The atmosphere of the restaurant was quite nice, especially the garden area was very enjoyable. The menu had some interesting tapas-style dishes. However, the staff was not very attentive, which was a bit disappointing. We ordered a few dishes, and while the presentation was good, the taste didn’t meet our expectations. Specifically, we ordered the shawarma, but the meat was very dry. Unfortunately, due to the lack of flavor, we won’t be considering this place again.
Service and atmosphere were good. Enjoyed my pint, but the cocktails were very poor indeed, according to the trained and 4 year experienced cocktail bar tender with us, no tequila apparently. Didsbury prices, good service, some drinks better than others.
Visited for Sunday Dinner. Lovely little place, cosy and nice decor. Expensive selection for food and drink, so expected a good experience. Drinks had a weirdly limited selection for non-alcoholic choices and were much more expensive than other local comparable establishments (£3.70 for equivalent of a can of Diet Coke), those that ordered alcoholic drinks found they were £1-£1.50 more expensive than neighbouring establishments for similar or the same product. Food selection was good for a Sunday dinner and everything needed. Ordered the beef dinner and cauliflower cheese for the table. Portion was good, good amounts of veg and meat, cauliflower cheese was very small for £6.50, the veg was mostly okay, carrots and green beans were under cooked. Should have been a bit more potatoes, but mash was good, roasties were over cooked but good Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was severely lacking, thin and not much with only an option to ask for more at £1.50 which is a poor decision. Staff were blunt and uninterested beyond the bare minimum. Overall not bad but not great which is nowhere near what you should expect when paying £25-£30 each for a Sunday Dinner, so poor value for money in my opinion and honestly underwhelmed (competitors in local area and Manchester City centre you could get better cor cheaper or the same e.g. Blacklock).
Wouldn’t mark the place down as I didn’t stay to eat. Was expecting the January offer menu, however wasn’t available on a Friday, despite that not being said on Manchester’s Finest and the offer details not being on their website that I could see. Fine, a misunderstanding. But I got distinct ‘you’re just a cheapskate’ vibes from the staff. May have stayed and paid full price if they’d deployed a bit of pleasant humour. But huffiness abounded. So nah.
My family requested we went back to Volta as the food is unreal and the people are lovely! Most of the staff were happy as always and the food delivered. That said, this instance we had poor service from a blonde person (assuming female and apologies for the physical description). Just made the experience awful. We try to stack plates, hand the things to make collecting plates easier, be as polite as possible...but they seemed to simply just loathed us not sure what we did, didn't ever engage with us, say anything, say thank you for coming... anyway general experience was ruined by this person. 7th Feb 2025.
We were looking forward to our meal here for a while as it was our friends favourite! We arrived and got a nice welcome, one of the cocktails we ordered wasn't right and the lady behind the bar was very accommodating (removed it from the bill) but I am not sure if that got our card marked. We ordered our food and they were accommodating to some allergies within our party. Whilst eating the meal, one member of our party got a bit of steak caught in his throat, tried to clear it with a drink which resulted in all coming up and landing on the floor under the table. Embarrassed and mortified by the ordeal, he waited until everyone else had finished their meal and then went and requested some blue roll to clear it up, he made sure nobody else touched it and ensured it was cleaned up. When they took our plates away they asked if we would like anything else, we ordered a few drinks which they server seemed happy with. Then, the original waitress (tall, young and blonde) came up to the table and accused that person in the party for being to drunk and she wouldn't serve us which we responded he has had one glass of wine at the table. She responded saying you have had cocktails too. The individual who she stated was too drunk to be served had had two drinks the entire evening - one cocktail and one glass of wine. Nobody at the restaurant actually checked if he was okay at any point or even communicated with us - she would have clearly seen he wasn't drunk and disorderly if she had made any effort to seek this information out. They then said they were happy to serve us, however at this point we didn't feel comfortable staying. An event that totally spoiled our evening, as a group of four friends in our 30-40s we do not expect to be falsely accused of something when enjoying a civilised evening. The member of staff was totally unacceptable, we are incredibly insulted and it really questions the integrity of the place.
