Bodega de la Ardosa is less about going for tapas and more about stepping into Madrid’s heart and letting it feed you. Established in 1892, it still wears its age proudly with wood-panelled walls, red tiles and vintage signs. The best way to eat here is to hand yourself over to the staff. Ask them to surprise you and dishes arrive that make you wonder why you would ever order for yourself again. The tortilla is legendary, the croquetas melt and the salmorejo carries the sun of Andalusia in every spoonful. The vermouth on tap is a ritual in a glass, sweet and bitter in perfect balance, while the wine list is quietly stupendous. Staff are guides as much as servers and the atmosphere hums with locals, travellers and a back room only found by ducking under the bar. Why not come here always?

Service was attentive without being intrusive, exactly what you want in a neighborhood bodega. - Tortilla española: Outstanding, easily the best tortilla we had during our entire Madrid stay. Perfectly executed with ideal texture and flavor balance. While prices are on the higher side, the quality fully justifies the cost. You pay more but receive significantly better food and experience than average. Bodega de la Ardosa delivers authentic Spanish dining at its finest. Everything from the historic ambiance to the expertly prepared tortilla demonstrates why this place has earned its reputation. Essential visit for anyone wanting genuine Spanish tavern culture with exceptional food quality. Budget accordingly, the quality is worth every euro.

Ignore every street sign. Every shop on gran via. Every other restaurant. Leave behind the tides of tourists and make a beeline to Bodega De La Ardosa. I would recommend dishes, but you can go alphabetically through the menu and return to go through it backwards the next day. Hell, you could just move in and do all your meals here. You can afford it too. Pro tip: get a vermouth. It comes with anchovies.

As someone who has worked in a 2-star Michelin restaurant and a 5-star hotel in Germany, and who travels frequently across cities around the world, I can confidently say: Bodega de la Ardosa is something special. The atmosphere is warm and full of character – vintage tiles, small wooden bar, and a space that feels untouched by time. No tourist traps here – just locals, laughter, and amazing food. The salmorejo was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the tapas were honest and well-prepared, and the vermut on tap was absolutely spot on – chilled, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. 📍 Located right in Chueca, but it remains authentic, relaxed, and full of Madrid’s real soul. No gimmicks, no Instagram hype – just good people, great drinks, and excellent local food. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Anchovies were not that great, but the grilled artichokes and the tortillas were extremely good! The staff can’t speak English but please ask for an english menu at the bar and point out what you’d like from there. Interior design was also super authentic and amazing!

Loved the salmorejo here! Croquettes and beer were good too. A cool small bar space with mostly standing tables. Was busy but not loud to the point where you couldn’t hear each other. Great service.

Great traditional bar, with typical dishes. Pilsner Urquell, Lagunitas and Guinness on tap. The vermouth is on tap too. Tortilla tasted good, but the best were the Croquetas de Cabrales. Don't miss this place in Madrid.

Wow! This is definitely a happening place for Spanish tapas in Madrid. Highly recommend if you get a chance to stop by here for food, either early evening snacks and a drink or dinner - all the food you as amazing, served swiftly and with a smile. It gets really busy, but it also turns around fairly fast so worth waiting around.

A absolutely wonderful bar. Full of character and charm. The bar team greated us with a wonderful welcome, we then got a table in the front but saw people crawling though the bar under the counter to the back where they had a secret little back room. There Lili and Andrea served us know where fantastic, cheeky, fast and efficient. The food was brilliant you have to try the Jamon and tortilla along with the rest of the menu. If you go to Madrid this is a must true authentic tapas experience!! Oh the vermouth is great too!!

First place to eat after arrival to Madrid. It's very popular, bursting w patrons, the head waiter was nice in asking us to line up, and we got in after 10 minutes. With US portions in mind and fact that we were hungry, we wanted to try everything! Each dish was delicious! Two favorites were the cheese balls w squid ink and beef stew. Muy buen sitio para tapear e ir a tomar algo. Las tapas son enormes y están buenísimas, recomiendo los buñuelos de bacalao. ¡Hemos pasado un muy buen rato sobretodo gracias a Miguel que nos ha atendido estupendamente! Un sitio muy acogedor y con un muy buen ambiente.

Fuimos por recomendación. Pedimos tortilla, tortilla con callos, ensaladilla y croquetas. Todo muy rico. De beber cervezas y vermouth. El vermouth con un hielo y una aceituna hubiera estado mejor, no solo en el vasito. El camarero fue una seta, como sin ganas, parecía que le molestaba que no supiéramos lo que era cerveza de tercio y no sé qué más y le preguntáramos cual era. En todas partes no se llaman las cosas igual. En fin, todo rico pero la actitud del camarero podría mejorar.

Lugar muy lindo y la comida muy rica. Comimos buñuelos, tortilla de patatas, empanada, carrillera, fabes con calamar. Todo muy rico. El servicio no muy bueno, pocos simpáticos aunque las recomendaciones fueron buenas. Vale la pena pegarse una vuelta por este lugar.

@searmolamarimorena Visitar este local es retroceder en el tiempo. Está taberna centenaria abrió sus puertas en 1892, siendo un punto para distribuir vino. Este local conserva detalles auténticos como la barra de estaño, la azulejería original y un ventilador de época, entre otras cosas. Además, tienen el grifo de Guinness más antiguo de España y una selección de cervezas de importación, especialmente checas. Aquí no te puedes perder su famosa tortilla de patatas, considerada una de las mejores de Madrid, también pedimos sus piparras en tempura aunque estaban demasiado hechas y perdieron el sabor.  El ambiente es castizo, estanterías llenas de botellas, toneles usados como mesas y luz cálida que da sensación de tradición. ¡No te pierdas el pasar por debajo de la barra! Una cosa muy curiosa. Recomiendo no ir en fin de semana, el local está a reventar y hay que esperar un rato para coger un hueco donde colocarte codo con codo con otras personas. No admiten reservas.

El ambiente rezuma historia y autenticidad. Las paredes forradas de madera, los espejos antiguos, los suelos hidráulicos y el inconfundible cartel de vermut nos transportan a otra época. Aquí se respira un aire castizo, familiar y cálido, donde cada rincón parece tener una anécdota. El bullicio alegre del bar, las risas, los brindis y la barra repleta de tapas crean una atmósfera acogedora y vibrante que invita a quedarse. En cuanto al género, La Ardosa no solo cumple: brilla. Las croquetas de jamón son, sin exagerar, de las mejores que uno puede probar en Madrid: cremosas, intensas y con un rebozado delicado que se funde en la boca. La empanada de la casa sorprende con su masa crujiente y un relleno jugoso y bien condimentado, una auténtica delicia. Las gildas, clásicas pero con un toque propio, tienen ese equilibrio perfecto entre el picante del guindillo, la salinidad de la anchoa y el frescor de la aceituna; un bocado tan sencillo como adictivo. Y por supuesto, el pincho de tortilla, que merece mención aparte: jugosa, en su punto exacto de cocción, con ese centro casi líquido que la convierte en una auténtica obra maestra. Pero lo que realmente corona la experiencia en La Ardosa es la atención y el trato. El personal es amable, rápido, siempre con una sonrisa y dispuesto a recomendar con acierto. Se nota que hay oficio, pasión y cariño en lo que hacen, y eso se agradece.

Típico sitio que te sale en todas las listas, y por tanto hasta arriba de gente. Nosotros tuvimos suerte y pudimos coger un sitio (compartido) pero lo normal es que tengas que esperar; consejos; paciencia que al final se va gente. Relación calidad precio normal; pero la carrillada lo vale (merece la pena), igual que la tortilla y el pincho de salmón; la verdad que todo muy bueno. El servicio era rápido para la cantidad de gente. En resumen; recomendable (sobre todo por la carrillada) pero si está a tope no te agobies y prueba con alguno de los de al lado.

Very good choice for tapas and cervezas. Great place to enjoy a good meal and a beer. Not so touristic. They have also an english menu which is very helpful. I totally recommend it.

Cosy, small and very busy bar where The spaniards hang out. Plain bar food, and for some Reason mainly Urquell beer. I had a local IPA, which was good.

Siempre está lleno, así que tuvimos que esperar un poco, pero mereció la pena. El ambiente es muy castizo, con mesas altas para comer de pie. Probamos la ensaladilla, gildas, croquetas y, como sorpresa, unas piparras en tempura deliciosas. Todo muy rico. Además, la camarera fue encantadora y con mucho humor, lo que hizo la experiencia aún mejor. La gente bastante subidita y en ocasiones trataba mal a la camarera sin ningún tipo de sentido, un chico nos pidió la carta y nos la devolvió tirándola a nuestra mesa de mala manera sin ni siquiera mirarnos.

Estuve no hace mucho y a las 11-12 de la noche no nos dejaron pasar a l zona interna. Querían limpiar y así acabar antes para irse. Nos pusieron en la puerta y pasamos frío en pleno invierno. La comida fue bastantes aceitosa, nada recomendable para mi gusto no los camareros ni la comida. El sitio bonito y auténtico

This spot is a classic, old-school Madrid bar. The atmosphere is amazing, the venue’s vibes and decoration are outstanding (take into account that you probably will have to eat standing up) and the staff is super efficient and friendly. However, I found it extremely expensive and the food was quite average. The food is good (not more than that) and the portions are really small for such a high price, which is why I don’t think it deserves more than 3 stars. I had the braised ox cheek “Carrillera de Buey Estofada” (14 EUR), a slice of potato tortilla “Pincho de Tortilla” (4 EUR) and a beer (5 EUR). They only have one beer type, which was ok for me. Also, the tortilla was far from the best ones I have had in other places. It was really good, don’t get me wrong, but not more than that. And the meat was SUPER GOOD, extremely tender and tasty... but the portion was just too small to be 14 EUR. I spent 23 EUR for a dinner and I left the place quite hungry. Additionally, if you want a bit of bread you have to pay an additional 1.50 EUR…

Bar con mucha historia en pleno corazón de Madrid, de esos que presumen (con razón) de ser centenarios. El ambiente es castizo, el local tiene encanto y se nota que han pasado generaciones por sus mesas. Eso sí, pequeño detalle sin importancia: ¿cómo es posible que en un bar centenario de Madrid no tengan cañas de Madrid? 🤔 Uno entra esperando una cerveza bien madrileña y se encuentra ampliando horizontes cerveceros sin haberlo pedido. El camarero Venezolano Anger del sector de atras, por Dios, es increíble el maltrato que sufrimos el rato que estuvimos. Soberbio y con mal genio, es que el sitio lo tiene todo para estar a gusto, pero eso no es tolerable. El trato debe de ser algo para destacarse, más en un sitio castizo de Madrid donde se vive la cultura Española. Por otro lado Genaro otro camarero Venezolano pudo resolver todo de forma cordial y con buenos tratos. Gracias Genaro, volveremos por tí.
