Un clásico imprescindible en Madrid. El Mesón del Champiñón es de esos lugares con encanto que nunca decepcionan. El ambiente es acogedor, el servicio rápido y muy amable, y la comida… ¡una maravilla! Los champiñones a la plancha son la estrella indiscutible: tiernos, jugosos y con un sabor exquisito que engancha desde el primer bocado. También merece la pena probar los pimientos de Padrón, servidos en su punto perfecto, y acompañarlo todo con una sangría espectacular, fresca y con mucho sabor, ideal para compartir. En definitiva, un sitio que hay que visitar sí o sí para disfrutar de la tradición madrileña con auténtica calidad.

Es un sitio bastante turístico, pero nos apeteció una noche de tapeo y queríamos ir a los típicos sitios y este no podía faltar. Aquí pedimos los champiñones y los pimientos y muy buenos. Te atienden muy rápido y el pan está muy rico (y lo agradeces para poder mojar!). Eso sí, nosotros fuimos pronto pq se llena rápido, aunque tiene bastante rotación.

Sooooo good! The mushrooms are so yummy, and the Pimiento de Padron is delicious. The place is very beautiful, inside a “cave”, decorated and beautiful. It’s a must to come while visiting Madrid. And the Sangria is really good!

Mushrooms is a must try! Smells good and very juicy! Menu have different languages and with pictures, which is very tourist friendly. It is near the San Miguel market. Although I didn't try the food in the market, but the price is more acceptable here.

Their mushroom dish is famous and popular. Juicy and palatable. You need those two sticks to put each one into your mouth not to spill the mushroom juice inside! Their Padron pepper was also amazing. If you’re in Madrid and looking for something iconic and delicious, don’t skip El Mesón del Champiñón. We stopped in after hearing about their famous mushrooms, and they did not disappoint. Perfectly grilled, juicy, and packed with flavor, honestly one of the highlights of our trip! We also had a Caracaba and some sparkling water, which paired nicely with the food. The vibe inside is super charming and rustic, with a warm and friendly staff that made the experience even better. It’s the kind of place that feels both local and welcoming to visitors. Prices were fair, and the quality definitely exceeded expectations. I took a bunch of photos and videos because it was just that good and I want others to see what they’re missing! Highly recommend swinging by if you’re in the area. Even if you’re not a huge mushroom fan, these might just convert you.

They are really friendly and attantive. Mushrooms were good, so you should try it. They also serve it without pork if you want. My Turkish-Cuban friend (waiter) is very helpful, because he immediately changed my plate with vegan plate when I said him that I don't eat pork. I never forget it.

During a short trip to Madrid, we discovered the tapas restaurant Mesón del Champiñón on TikTok – and what can we say? We just had to go! In fact, we ended up visiting multiple times. Each time, we were warmly welcomed and always got a table in the small back area of the restaurant. The mushrooms are undoubtedly the highlight of this tapas bar! The stems are removed, filled with roasted ham, and the entire mushroom is soaked in garlic. They're served with two small wooden skewers, making it easy to eat without getting your hands dirty. If you don't find that delicious, I don't know what to tell you! But the other tapas are also highly recommended. We tried ham croquettes, a mixed platter with Ibérico ham and chorizo, and a selection of cheeses – everything was simply delicious! We also ordered a pitcher of sangria, the perfect complement to this great experience. Bread is served with the dishes, which is a wonderful addition. We recommend ordering several tapas and sharing, as this is the best way to enjoy all the fantastic flavors! The location is cozy, the food speaks for itself, and the staff is very friendly – even towards tourists. If there are language barriers, you can easily order via a tablet that shows all the tapas with pictures. This is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Madrid!

El Mesón del Champiñón es un pequeño templo dedicado a las setas, con un ambiente clásico y muy acogedor. Su propuesta es sencilla pero impecable: champiñones a la plancha con chorizo, perejil, aceite y un toque de limón. Una receta única cuyo sabor es realmente delicioso. Aunque el local es pequeño y los precios son algo altos, la experiencia merece muchísimo la pena. La carta es corta, pero funciona perfectamente para un bocado rápido y bien hecho. Siempre voy con mi marido, que adora los champis, y aprovechamos para pasar también por el Mesón de la Tortilla, justo al lado. Un sitio icónico y totalmente recomendable, ideal para ir con amigos y disfrutar de una parada rica y diferente en pleno corazón de Madrid.

Tengo que decir que la comida estaba mucho mejor de lo que me esperaba. Pedimos los champiñones, pimientos, chorizos a la sidra y unas croquetas y todo estaba rico, los champiñones son un must porque no lo ves en ningún otro lugar. También recomiendo la sangría!. El lugar se ve que siempre está lleno pero los mesoneros se mantuvieron muy amables. Es una taberna y el ambiente corresponde a este concepto, con música en vivo.

Sitio curioso aunque pequeño. Famoso por sus champiñones los cuales están muy ricos. Una parada más que hacer en Madrid.

Their signature mushrooms are absolutely divine, incredibly juicy, flavorful, and so addictive we had to reorder another plate. One simply wasn't enough. The ordering system is impressively tourist-friendly, with multilingual tablet menus that make things smooth for non-Spanish speakers. While the service was a bit rushed, it’s understandable given the crowd. Definitely a must-visit for anyone who appreciates a good local food experience! 👍😋

Champiñones de los mejores en Madrid, pero el baño está súper sucio y el ambiente en general es desagradable. Siempre hay muchas personas dentro y pocas mesas, entonces estate dispuesto a tener que esperar un buen tiempo para ser atendido.

Heard about this restaurant online, already knew about the historical significance of “mesones” in Spain and wanted to go to the best one. Reviews were excellent, so we chose Meson del Champignon. Bad choice. The front of the place was full of people just standing around. No one seemed to be going anywhere, and shortly thereafter, we figured out that the crowd was part of a large tour group. Apparently, the tapas tours go to this place for the mushrooms - and nothing else - and they stand basically in the entrance and eat plates of mushrooms, making it nearly impossible to get in the door. It is a total scam. This place should choose - either you are a restaurant, or a tourist attraction. We finally figured this out and pushed our way through the crowd to find an employee and ask for a table for two. There was a wastebasket under the servers “station” which was overflowing. There were napkins and toothpicks all over the dirty floor. These were ignored, I think it’s common. I was a bit shocked, but reminded myself to be open minded - the reviews are great, right? Anyway, there are probably 10 tables upstairs and four tables downstairs. Very small place. We were sent downstairs. There was garbage all over the table, including stems from the peppers they sell. A man came and threw them all on the floor and hastily performed a superficial sipe of the table. Shortly thereafter, the same man’s came back - he had a very stuffy nose came and sniffled loudly at our table. He even wiped his nose with his finger. I should have left. Be culturally sensitive… Be kind… Be open minded. So, we placed our order and some of it came quickly. I just hoped the man would blow his nose and wash his hands. We ate. The mushrooms were good. I wouldn’t call them delicious. They were okay. The wine was okay, the glass looked a bit worn. The croquettes were nothing special, the olives came from a supermarket jar. Several items we ordered never arrived: specifically, the chorizo bites in cider, and the plate of jamon and cheese. We order a second round of drinks. They never arrived. We waited a while and finished our other selections, finally deciding the other items were not coming. We were more than ready to leave. I asked the sniffling waiter for a check. It took ten minutes. We were sitting with our used plates, he never attempted to clear them. I pre-bussed the table for him. He came back with an 80 euro tab for us - every item we ordered was somehow on the check, although many were never delivered - curious! I told him that the check was incorrect and he became angry with me, yelling at me that I had to go upstairs. I did. Now standing at the dirty servers station, I reminded him of what actually arrived at my table so he could reproduce a correct bill for me. He argued with me about the second round. It never came, I stuck to my guns. He finally produced an amended bill for 41 euros - nearly half the price he originally billed us for. I paid it. There was a charge for “bread” of 90 cents per person, which we did not order nor did we eat, but by this point, standing in a crowded - packed - room, and having been insulted the entire time, I was just happy to get out of there. We wanted to have another drink and a few more tapas, so we went to Meson del Rincon next door - a clean and bright place, and finished our evening there. I don’t just recommend trying somewhere else, I caution against ever going to Champignon. What a disaster. I wish I could give minus five stars for this review.
