I stayed in Sherston with my wife and children for a few days in June 2023, and I visited The Rattlebone every day we were there. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was welcoming! When our itinerary called for us to move on, I wished that I could stay in Sherston and become a regular at The Rattlebone. In the year since, I keep trying to find a reason to go back.

Great old pub plenty of room with gardens and seating at the rear and sides, the the bonus of a boule's court too, they do have a food menu but we were just passing we will be back...

We ate out in the area every night for 5 days and this was by far the best pub for food. Fantastic. Next time I'm in the area this is the first place I'm going to eat

Great food and plenty of choice to suit everyone. Service a little slow for us however may suit those who want a longer dining experience

We had an amazing experience while visiting The Rattlebone. The staff were extremely kind and did their best to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was extremely nice and everything had lots of flavour. Lastly, the sticky toffee pudding was amazing! Definitely worth visiting!

The pub is cozy and beautifully decorated. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. Surprise find for us. One of the most beautiful pubs & restaurant that I've been into! 😍

I had a Sunday lunch today with my family. We had a beef, chicken and a ham egg and chips. The food was well presented, fresh and tasted delicious. The desserts were lovely too. The staff were very attentive. I would highly recommend here for lunch. I really enjoyed the atmosphere too, lovely log fire and friendly vibe in the pub. Very welcoming. 👌👍

A lunch for 3 in a very good atmosphere both rustic and warm. Servers very pleasant. The food was good and the dishes were homemade.

We visited Westonbirt Arboretum and wanted to find somewhere to stop before heading back to south Wales. Purely picked this pub (7 mins drive ) based on the main photo. Had no idea what it would be like or if food was being served. We totally lucked out :-) It was perfect. In the pub I looked at it again on Google and saw it had an average of 4.5 stars. I’ve rated it as 5 starts. The food was fanastic. They had a good choice of real ales. This was early evening on a Friday and there was a really nice atmosphere in the pub- a lovely buzz of friendly chat. The service from staff was 10/10. We sat in a side room and there was a cost log fire keeping us all warm :-)

Came here for work... This is an lovely venue, the food looked very inviting coming out of the kitchen.. Jason and the lady serving (sorry didn't catch her name) were very accommodating and was being very attentive to all the customers. The photos show a beautifully and tastefully decorated village pub with ample indoor and outdoor seating They are now doing pizzas from a pizza oven on certain nights of the week... Easy in and take away. Looks like this stunning little pub has a lot of heart with the local community a lot of local people were dining by the time I left so that's always a good sign... 🤗

Great comfy Inn. Clean and homely. Staff are welcoming and smiley and willing to have a giggle - makes for a pleasant evening! Now the food... Spectacular !!!!! I cannot fault. Monkfish or the Porkbelly want to attend every day if I could! I would highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion. Book in advance though.

(Before lockdown)Excellent! Every time we've been it has been top draw, couldn't fault food, service or drinks. Would highly recommend going, would advice to book if visiting for food. Staff and restaurant really good. Can't rate the food enough, would recommend paying that little bit extra to come here. You do need to park in the high street but there is always spaces and definitely worth a visit

Went for lunch and supper , trio of ladies. Good , friendly service, efficient warm welcome. Lunch had soup of the day, red onion sweeter than traditional brown version . Light yet filling, enjoyed the taste. Supper had the steak and kidney pie, accompanied with baby potatoes, sweet cabbage, Dede/carrot and broccoli. All the food cooked to perfection , pie was perfect size tasty great gravy. Again the service friendly, warm and efficient. Staff remembered us from lunch and our drink preferences. Pub old quaint but modern , well worth the visit and would return .

Had an delicious Sunday roast here. The roast potatoes were actually crispy which is so rare to find at a pub Sunday lunch! It is definitely in my top 3 Sunday roasts ever. The cheesy leeks were a surprise as they're not mentioned on the menu but they were absolutely divine! Will definitely come back here and highly recommend if you're in the area.

Four of us came for Sunday lunch yesterday and none of us spoke to eachother because we enjoyed our meal so much we didn’t look up. We tried the beef and vegetarian option and both were excellent! It’s a beautiful old British pub, but the food my god incredible. All four of us said it may have been the best Sunday roast we had eaten out in our lives. Usually Sunday roasts can be a bit naff but it was perfect. Stand out was the creamy cheesy leekes. Also price was so reasonable especially considering Cotswolds is pricey. Staff also were just so so nice friendly and attentive, nothing to fault and brilliant expensive all round. Would 100% recommend ❤️❤️❤️

I've been for a couple of meals here now, the first was so nice we went back on my 50th, nice location, nice atmosphere and lovely staff, food tasted fantastic.

Me and a friend travelled from Birmingham to the cotswolds for a weekend break and were recommended the rattlebone inn for dinner on our first night there, and it was DELICIOUS! Beautiful homemade pies and the drinks were good too! Sat in front of a log fire. We even booked in for their Sunday lunch before we went back home. When we visit again we will make sure to stop off here again! We still talk about the food all the time now! Beautiful pub, delicious food and lovely staff and atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more!

Yet again we had a splendid lunch and an enjoyable visit. The Rattlebone staff are very attentive, the food is excellent (possibly the best pub food in the area) and the pub itself is very pleasant inside. The baked Camembert (a starter for two) was served with a nice selection of breads, pickles and salad. We both followed with the partridge (from the specials board) which was nicely cooked and served with a generous helping of perfectly cooked vegetables. The Butcombe on draught was good. We will be back. Sherston itself is a pretty village with several nice walks in the surrounding countryside.

Very good food... The Sunday roasts are clearly popular and you should definitely book a table. We actually went for the pan fried cod with samphire and spicy veggie burgers respectively. Both meals were delicious as was the pint of excellent Timothy Taylor Landlord that I washed it down with..recommended and I'd definitely go back.

We were searching the Internet for a restaurant that was open on a Monday evening that was local to Great Somerford, where my son and future daughter in law lives at the moment. Also, somewhere that served something we all wanted to eat, we have varied tastes. The Rattlebone came up, and we booked a table online. What a gorgeous cotswold village is Sherston, and a traditional looking pub is the Rattlebone! We ordered mushroom and garlic soup, and Followed by rump steak, rib eye steak, and chicken skewers. Then chocolate brownie and cherry frangipane tart. Everything was absolutely delicious, presented beautifully, hot, and large portions. We all struggled to eat it all but managed the majority of it, too good to leave it. The staff were both friendly and polite, very cheerful and efficient service. The atmosphere was lovely. Another nearby table was being used, and the bar had a few customers in. We all agreed we would definitely go back there to eat again, and we would highly recommend this place. A* we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Compliments to the chefs. Thank you.

Wonderful Country Pub. Highly recommend the Goats Cheese starter and Lamb main. If you’re looking for a traditional British pub this is it.

Our lunch here on Mothering Sunday was absolutely superb. All mums in our group were given a complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival, a wonderful gesture . I chose the 3 meat roast, pork, beef and chicken, with all the trimmings, delicious, would so recommend, oh and the cheesy leeks are a good meal in themselves, scrumptious... I have to say, the young barmen on duty that day worked their socks off, nothing was too much trouble, even on such a packed busy day. They are a credit to their manager and the owners of The Rattlebone. We enjoyed it so much , we've booked for Easter Sunday. I would also recommend booking for Sundays as they do get very very busy.

Had a wonderful time at the Rattlebone Inn for an event. It was very busy but staff did an excellent job and the food was fantastic. We will certainly be returning again to sample more of the offerings. Great country pub with a fabulous atmosphere

First time at this gorgeous older worlde pub. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service and lovely food. Seven of us had pre- ordered our food before attending a play by a local am-dram group (👍👏). It all came out piping hot and delicious. Will definitely revisit.

Just wanted to write to say thanks so much for hosting us on Friday. It was the perfect venue and your staff were all so friendly and professional. The pizza was a particular favourite!

Had one of the best pub roasts I have had in years here yesterday. As a family we seldom have roasts out as they are normally best cooked at home. We had a mix of pork and beef… generous portions, about 6 different veg, decent gravy and delicious and tender meat.

A great village pub. We aren't locals to the area. But we were welcomed in. Looked busy and popular and the ales were flowing and tasted fresh so 5 stars for the beer. Nice roaring fire in the pub and nice and warm inside. Will visit again!

The Rattlebone has clearly changed hands since our last visit. Food was fantastic (I had the rump of lamb and it was cooked to perfection), service was good and the place was busy with locals and visitors and had a great vibe to it.

Me and my partner have a 'roast club' we travel around different pubs for Sunday lunches. Sunday 23rd Feb 25 we went into the rattle bone. Lovely atmosphere, lovely and warm. Hands down the top of our 'club' by far. Birthday treat so we added cauliflower cheese (best I've had) but you don't really need to as cheesy leeks come as standard. Potatoes were amazing, yorkies.... It was all just fantastic. Well done the rattle bone you are top of our private 'roast club' 10/10

The most amazing Sunday roast. Food beautifully cooked. Plenty of meat, potatoes and lovely fresh vegetables. They even brought extra veg out halfway through and dessert was lovely too. Service excellent. Definitely recommend

Brilliant place for a delicious meal out! The baked camembert with rosemary & garlic was the best I've ever tasted, served with a very delicately toasted array of different breads, onion marmalade & chilli jam, superb.

Beautiful place, atmosphere is amazing, the Staff are on top of the game & if that did not top everything off then just try the food. Sunday lunch it’s a bust, it’s tasty & very reasonable. This was my first visit & I will be coming again. Thank you all for making my Sunday a memorable day ❤️

We held my wife’s birthday party in The Barn, the new Private Hire addition to the pub. It was perfect for us - our own space with a bar, and with fresh pizzas served straight from the wood fired pizza oven. Highly recommend!

Always a bit scary when The Rattlebone changes hands! We had an amazing meal, food was perfect. Amy was a great host and the staff were lovely. It was extremely busy but we were in no rush so it didn't matter if things were a little slow. Only marked the atmosphere down because of braying posh blokes making loads of noise 🤣🤣🤣

J
Jocelyn Honeywood

Tasty food and friendly service in a proper pub. Not much atmosphere but it was an early lunch reservation with not many others in at the time. Highly recommend the baked camembert, that alone was worth the trip!

Good food, friendly and attentive service, decent range of beers and wine, absolutely beautiful building in a beautiful village. I'd have given it five stars, but the toilets were a bit of a state - if they could stay on top of that, this would be a real gem. (Not that it was bad enough to stop me going back for a second meal on our holiday.)

J

Had to give a low rating because our Food took over an hour to arrive. However Food was terrific when it eventually arrived.

G

The food quality here has really declined. The Camembert was cold and hard in the middle when it arrived, so I had to send it back to be reheated. I asked for extra bread to go with it, but it took so long to arrive that the Camembert had gone cold again by the time it came. The roast was disappointing—what was supposed to be cheesy leek turned out to be runny cheesy broccoli instead. The roast potatoes were hard and tasted more like they’d been boiled, and the beef was very stringy. Oh and only had half a Yorkshire pudding!

Really disappointed at the Sunday lunch today. Arrived for our restaurant booking only to be sat in the bar with a wobbly table and chairs. Took 15mins just to get a drink and then I had to get someone’s attention to order food. Order taken reluctantly and were told “it would be some time”. Left sat at the table with empty glasses waiting for an hour until food arrived. Food mediocre and nothing special especially for the length of time it took to prepare. Had to constantly prompt staff for simple things eg cutlery, sauces, additional drinks. No apologies made by staff for delays and not even a thank you as we paid and walked out afterwards! Will not be rushing back here. Shame as used to be a favourite pub of ours but today was really shocking. Lots of staff milling around looking stressed but equally being ineffectual. Surprised to see staff eating and drinking behind the bar when we were sat with empty glasses and waiting an hour for our roast. Really not good enough.
