Great steaks, housemade salad dressings and sides! The filet was so tender and juicy it practically melted in my mouth. The saganaki was delicious! Our server Dawn was top notch also!! She was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and fun! One of our visits the restaurant was celebrating Dawn's 40th year working there so I also included a picture of her and I. We go to Tom's a few times a year. Delicious! A Chicagoland staple since the 50's.

We recently ate at Tom's Steak House for the first time and are Very Satisfied ! We were promptly and courteously greeted. Nice atmosphere and elegant table settings. Our waitress, upon hearing it was our first visit, explained the menu in detail and that steaks were cut on site, fresh daily. Prior to dinner 3 of us had the baked French onion soup, 1 had the salad. All were delicious. The bread was fresh and warm. At our table 2 had the petite filet, 1 had the king prime rib, and I had the bone in rib-eye. All cuts were ordered to different doneness, and every one was perfect ! The tiramisu and the brownie with ice cream desserts were fabulous. Our service was very attentive, and our ice waters were kept full. It was a great dining experience. We are very glad we finally ate there. There's a reason they have been in business many years ! Thank you !

While our cousins group has always enjoyed our previous visits at Tom's this past Sunday was the best ever. We are not regulars to be remembered, none the less we were greeted so warmly. The service (Miguel), food and attention to every detail by all the staff was phenomenal. We had filets or prime rib, all done to perfection. I only drink water and I never had to ask for more as all glasses were kept full. Dishes were brought and cleared rhythmically. They did all this without our feeling rushed or hovered over. It was a beautiful symphony of service on all levels. The hostess even offered to take a group photo for us. This entire experience will not be forgotten.

We went for lunch and sat at the bar. The lights are dim, the music is low and the staff was great. An old school restaurant with good service, atmosphere and great food. Highly recommended! Thank you Leslie and Tom!

Have passed this restaurant for years while working in Melrose Park. Always wondering about the food and service. My daughters treated me to dinner celebrating my 70th birthday. What a coincidence, as they were celebrating their 70th anniversary. The food was superb as well as the service. They handled a party of twelve with ease. Best birthday ever.

DE-LISHHHH! Delicious 😋 We ordered a NY Strip (med rare)& 3 Philly Steak Sandwichs and it was sooooooo good. Cooked perfectly and the sauce for the baked potato was amazing too! Oh and the áu jus was so good too you can drink it! They also make their own dressings in house and that was good too! Definitely will go back! We were all very happy with our food

A local Icon, and for a reason: the very best steaks in the area. You will not be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable as well. One of my favorite restaurants for certain. Great staff too. Be sure to ask for Bess. 5 Stars!

This is my favorite restaurant! The food is always delicious and I love the service. You can’t go wrong with the oysters and the T-bone is my all time favorite. Don’t leave without trying the brownie.

We absolutely LOVED this place! It was our first time here. We received top-notch attention from the host to the server (Lynn) to the manager (Tony). All the food was top quality and served at the perfect temperature. The only thing I did not like is the cottage cheese topping for the baked potato. When I asked about it, the manager was very willing to bring sour cream. I just think it's a usual accompaniment for a baked potato, so why bring a lower quality substitute? We thought our cocktails were perfect. We felt so cared for. We will definitely be back and plan to bring our family and friends with us!

This was my first time visiting Tom’s Steakhouse. I cannot believe how hard the team worked to make sure every part of our meal was perfect. Kelly S. Was our server and she was incredibly patient and offered great suggestions. Tony gets the MVP - he simply asked to move our table a few inches to accommodate a larger party. It was not an issue at all, however Tony decided to gift us with a free dessert and recommended an expensive dessert that he thought we’d enjoy. Mind you this was after apologizing for the “inconvenience”. He went above and beyond even after I told him it was not a problem and he did not need to. He was focused on making sure my nephew and I had the best experience. It’s so rare to see this level of service. Because of Tony’s actions, our incredible server, and the wonderful food (it was fantastic!) - we’ll be going back to Tom’s Steakhouse regularly.

Tom’s Steakhouse is a must for fine dining. Our food was prepared exactly the way we requested. We had Josie as a waitress, and she was amazing. Tony greeted us when we came in and checked on us to make sure our steaks were done to perfection. The food was top-notch, and the staff was equal. It was such an amazing Birthday dinner. This was our first time there, and we will be back.

Has always been one of if not the best steaks in the Chicago area. The new owners seem to be carrying on the tradition very well.

Tom's Steakhouse is a Melrose Park institution. Reminiscent of the supper clubs found in Illinois and Wisconsin, Tom's provides a comfortable atmosphere of great food and service. Since moving, I haven't visited in a while but Tom's still doesn't disappoint. If you find yourself in the morose park area, try Tom's for dinner.

Took myself out to dinner! Wanted something good and I made the right choice choosing Tom’s! Josie was my 5 star server! The food was absolutely delicious! I chose to start with the bait French onion soup, and the Saaki as an appetizer both were out of this world! Of course, I saved the best for last. I had a filet mignon steak sandwich. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly.! I will definitely be back!

My sister's favorite steakhouse. Took her there to celebrate her birthday. Sis had prime rib and I has ribs Meal were delicious as always. A little bit pricey but well worth it.

When we go we always get the Prime Rib. We tell them to char broil it. My parents started going there in the 70'S and we are still going there now. This is the 4th Christmas Eve we've gone there and we'll keep keep going as long as they're still open.

Absolutely incredible! The service Dawn gave us was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The steak was hands down the best I’ve ever had—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. This place exceeded all expectations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch steakhouse experience!

So driving by we were not sure about this place, but tonight we decided to try it and we were not disappointed! The food is delicious and the serving sizes were huge. Our waitress Joise was wonderful and we will ask for her every time. Cannot say enough amazing things about the atmosphere, food, and service!

Tom's has a great old school vibe and the steaks are consistently excellent. This evening our waitress was phenomenal. Very pricey, however.

Don't let the older style looking building fool you. This was my 1st time eating here & as I walked in, the inside looks much nicer than it appears. The steak was very juicy & tender. The burgers & mushroom soup were ok. The service was excellent.

This was my first time eating at Tom's Steak House. I've driven past this place for years, but never dined here. I came here with a group from church. I really enjoyed the food and the vibe. Our waitress was very nice and provided answers to anything regarding items on the menu. The Cream of Chicken soup was good. I hadn't had it in a long time. For my entree, I had the Queen's Prime Rib. It was seasoned well and cooked just right. A good portion size for its price. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake. Omg, it was right on time. I enjoyed every bite. I didn't finish it all because my mom ate the rest 😊 I would definitely come back again. Next time, I'll try the steak.

Plus Size in Chicago

Tom's Steak House, located in Chicago's West Suburban city, Melrose Park, has been in the neighborhood since 1952. They're known for the steaks and seafood. Although it's in Melrose Park, it has the classic Chicago steak house vibe. Today was my first time visiting amongst friends. The entry and dining space is very welcoming. By the way, if you are looking to plan a private event, there is a really large event space at the main entry. We started the gathering with drinks, Saganaki that's lighted table-side, and the most amazing soup of the day which was Chicken and Rice. I could have dined on both of those all day! From my understanding, all the meats and seafood are charbroiled. As I had a lot of red meat and seafood earlier in the week, I decided to taste the bbq ribs. Anywhere I go, I do my best to get the ribs without the sauce, so that I can taste the flavor behind it. These were baby back and it seemed like there was a lot of black pepper, salt and garlic powder - nothing additional like brown sugar, cajun seasoning, or chili powder. In this case the bbq sauce was definitely helpful. It was very tangy and delicious. Now that I've tried it, the next time I visit and get the ribs again, I'll taste it while the sauce is baked on. A few of my friends dined on Tom's Steak House burger and prime rib. They all had good things to say. No complaints. I was too full to eat dessert at the restaurant, but I brought home a slice of the carrot cake. Wow, that was super amazing. It was a very decent portion, but I could have easily and greedily eaten two slices! I would give Tom's Steak House 4 out of 5 stars. I would like to see a few more cuts of beef and seafood in the entree selection. Tom's has ample parking and accepts online reservations.

Rockfeller oysters were not my thing lol. Caesar salad was good, too many croutons for my liking. Ribs were great, tender, falling off the bone.

I love me a good T bone steak and this one here was on point exactly like I ordered it. The kids loved it, I loved it and most importantly my wife loved it which means we'll definitely be going back

Dined at the bar and had a great experience with Gina, an exceptional bartender with a charming and gracious manner. The French Dip was excellent as were the cocktails. Great service makes the experience. The gambling machines I could do without, but everything else was top-notch. Cheers!

The food is great quality and cooked well. The service was great. The restaurant has an old school atmosphere to it, I liked it. The food was kinda bland to me, not much seasoning.

Great old school steakhouse. Chicken liver app is a must. Love the garlic bread sticks. Cut my steak with a butter knife.

New Years Eve dinner with friends. It was jam packed as expected. Had shrimp cocktail and Saganaki apps. Porkchops were excellent, Orange roughy was good, Chopped sirloin was good. Soup and salads were our chosen sides. Brandy Ice for two was dessert for our friends, and I had a scoop of peppermint ice cream. Split of prosecco, and cocktails, Riesling for me. Haven’t been there in 25 years. We will go back 😊

We had lunch at Tom's Steakhouse on a Thursday afternoon. My wife grew up near the place and never ate there before. It is a nice updated white tablecloth restaurant. We didn't order cocktails from the well stocked bar. I think the place opened in the early 1950s. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and inviting the place is. Bathrooms can be a problem at older restaurants, but not here. My bathroom was clean, modern, and got the job done. I ordered a half slab of baby back ribs from the starters part of the menu. They were moist and tender. The bbq sauce was pretty boring though. Our fries were warm not hot. Our waiter was working two different rooms. He was pretty busy and our water and soda glasses were empty most of the time. Maybe next time we will stop by at dinner time and try one of their ribeye steaks.

Pros=Ambiance, Staff,Reservations Came here for a butt steak, BUT it is no longer on the menu..so settled for strip steak. The trip down memory lane was good , very retro, old-school steak house. The bar area was hopping! The service was attentive. The hostess was quick. The food lacked seasoning.

Been eating at Tom’s for years. Had dinner and ordered a Bone in Ribye. Cut like it was from sizzler or Jewel thin cut. I doubt it was more than 3/4 of an inch thick. The meat was flavorless and hardly had a char because it was so thin. Wasn’t worth the 60.00 I paid for it. Tom’s has scene better days. To be fair my guest had fillets and they said they were good.

Sunday night was the first time I've ever eaten at Tom's and been really disappointed. We've been going there 2 to 4 times a year since the mid 70's. The service was great (thanks Stacey, bussers, and the nice hostess) The atmosphere is classic Tom's, no complaints. The place is updated and I think it looks and feels good. Tonight though, the food in general was so heavily salted it truly disappointed. The only exception was the salad with those classic homemade dressings. Those were money, as always. Were it not for the really bad over salting, the meals would have been a solid 4 1/2 stars. I'm disappointed, but this kind of thing happens every rare once in a while even in the best places. We'll be back, but I just wanted to notify the kitchen staff to back off on the salt. The steaks, au jus, baked potato, and even that awesome concoction they make to put on the baked potatoes were all criminally over salted tonight. Since it's the holidays and the service was so good, I chose not to complain while we were there. I'm not even complaining here. This has NEVER happened before, so you get a solid pass. We'll be back after the new year, easy on the salt guys, please. Cheers

Came in for my birthday, here’s the review. This place gets 2.5 stars. The restaurant actually looks really nice inside. Our server Diane was very nice, but she needs to review steps of service for fine dining. Bread was mid, saganaki was tasty (and fun), skip the ribs. They cook their steaks over charcoals, so you have to like a deep char flavor on your crust if you are going to like steaks here. Unfortunately, my ribeye came out tasting like burnt dust. Even sitting in a pool of juices couldn’t save it from being dryer than jerky. When I ask our server to switch it out for the prime rib, I was presented with a steak with 1/4 the steak missing. You can clearly see the kitchen (because I took 2 bites of the ribeye before returning it) deliberately cut off parts of my steak (where’s the rest of my cap?). Steak temps were all over the place from rare to well done and we all ordered medium rare. My friend’s lamb was good. They don’t do anything for birthdays, so don’t expect a scoop of ice cream or sliver of cake. Below is the “King” prime rib as presented to me by our server. Very sloppy and unappealing for a $55 piece of meat.

I was extremely disappointed . Was once a favorite steak house of mine. My wife ordered a steak sandwich which was a steak served on a single piece of white bread and was undercooked. The prime rib I ordered was flavorless and was some of the worst prime rib I have been served. The baked clams we ordered were chewy as well. I won’t be returning.

Three of us were in on Sunday 1/11/2026 . We have been there many times. This day was bad the Preseco was flat I ordered a medium well t bone it was burnt and the waitress had an attitude because I told her. Also when I asked for xtra fresh black pepper she she was not doing that to hurt her hand . The manager gave me another steak and said he would take it off the bill but he didn't. I dont know what was going on but it was not a good experience

We were celebrating our anniversary at this restaurant, by the way! We don't recommend it at all! The meat was apparently cooked to perfection, however, it tasted horrible, reminiscent of a dirty grill with overcooked food that hadn't been cleaned for a week. When we complained to the manager, the response was very poor and unprofessional! The meat tastes that way because it was cooked on charcoal instead of gas! His simple response was "sorry!" He didn't offer a discount, or even say he would check the grill to make sure it was really clean. The other thing was the presentation of the meat... bathed in what they call meat juice... nothing more than an overcooked and burnt broth that represents a contaminated Lake Michigan in the 40s. We don't recommend this restaurant at all! You’ll see the pics by yourself!

We came into this experience expecting great things and also on a whim after being put on an hour and a half waitlist down the street. We had our son (11) and his friend with us, and we were greeted as though the place was packed... it was dead inside. After being sat in the worst seat in the place, we asked a server if we could move, and they obliged. The manager was irritated at us, to say the least. Maybe because we had 2 kids in there? Given the crowd, you would think they would be happy to have bodies taking up the place. Our food took almost 50 minutes to come out. When asked why, they said the chicken takes 45 minutes. We got the filet and prime rib. The food was terrible. They make better steaks at Lone Star. My boys did not eat anything. The chicken was dry and bland. We are so disappointed that I wanted to get on here and leave a review. From the manager to the food, this place was not worth a quarter of what we paid. Save yourself the money and skip it. I will say the ambiance was the coolest part, but not worth the couple hundred bucks we spent.

I was in there for over an hour and could of got a better steak and potatoes at Applebees or Texas rd house they look high class and fancy but there not it’s to brain brainwash u on there food I paid $70 bucks for 1 20oz steak that was way over cooked and a over done baked potato i wouldn’t recommend this place

My boyfriend made a reservation to celebrate my birthday (we are Hispanic) To start off, when we got there, it looked like the host and server were having a verbal alternation; making the atmosphere tense. We got sat down and shortly after, two other tables (which were white), were sat down. Although we got sat down first, our order was taken last from the two groups of people that came after us. We didn’t think much of it, maybe the server forgot the order In which the tables were sat, so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. We noticed that while we were waiting, our server was having a positive attitude with her two other tables, but when it came to us she had a serious face. After we received our food, we didn’t see our server again until she gave us the check even though she was VERY attentive to her other tables. The food was delicious; however, the customer service was not. I am a server myself, and this is NOT how you treat a paying customer, regardless of their skin color.

We came here for a family meal since we have been living in the area and wanted to finally try Tom's steak house. The salad and soup where ok, when it came to our entrees 2 out of the 5 entrees where way overcooked. Our waitress was very nice but kept forgetting a drink order. Over all the food was ok but a very frustrating experience.

I’ve been dining at Tom’s for years. I’ve always enjoyed the old school supper club atmosphere and have recommended it to many friends and family over more well known Steakhouses. After dining there last night (9/12/25), I called there within 15-20 minutes of leaving explaining I left without my credit card. This was largely due to chatting it up with our lovely waitress (Diane) and bus staff that are the heart and soul of the place. The man who answered the phone (manager/owner) could not have been more unhelpful if he tried. He seemed annoyed I even called. I just spent over $400 at your EMPTY restaurant on a Friday evening. We had a 7:45pm reservation and there were only 3 other tables occupied between then and when we left after 10pm so he couldn’t have been working too hard. This gentleman said he looked in the wait staff bill booklets and didn’t find anything (he made that decision within seconds so he didn’t look very hard). I asked if he could ask the wait staff or go look himself at/under the table that was less than 30-40 feet from the hostess counter. Again I was an inconvenience to this gentlemen’s night for even calling. He said his staff would return a left credit card and that it wasn’t there. I called back today (9/13/25) around 12pm when they opened. The woman who answered the phone was the complete opposite of the “gentleman” from last night. She “asked” for my name and phone number. At least this woman put me on hold for a few minutes to “go look” for my CC (horrific hold music). I literally told her exactly which table we sat at. She told me it still hadn’t turned up and recommended I “freeze” my CC until she could connect with the staff to see if anyone had found it. In the meantime, I had no choice but to cancel and request a new CC. I got a call at 5pm this evening letting me know they found my CC under the table. Do they not vacuum at Tom’s??? This is the first review I’ve ever written. I now understand why your restaurant was EMPTY on a Friday night. In my two phone calls, not once was I thanked for my business. I’m not looking for anything, but it wouldn’t matter if I was..you don’t care about your customers. It was evident with this situation. You have my phone number and I would love to hear from the “gentleman” I spoke with on Friday night. Based on the occupancy in his restaurant, I know he has plenty of time on his hands.

I hadn’t wanted to write a not great review because my husband and I have been going here for years but our last visit just wasn’t that good. The hostess (younger woman) was very sweet and said that the busboy would be bringing us water and rolls just like for every past visit. When we arrived we asked for Ellen or Dawn for our waitress. Neither one was working on this Friday night. We got there about 5:00. We waited and waited while the busboy went past us multiple times not even looking…a good 15 minutes. Finally the hostess had to bring water and rolls for us. The waitress came and took our order (younger with long hair) but you could tell she did not want to be there. She brought our salads—which they’ve fancied up and are better than they used to be—along with the dressings—which are still wonderful. Our main courses came. My prime rib was overcooked and not tender. The baked potato was not great. We ordered the Bermuda onion and it came cut up. Not in the rings how they used to be. There was a couple sitting on the other side of the wall from us and when their waitress came and asked them how their dinner was, the man said not great…his salad and potato were not good. I had leftovers and asked to bring them home. The busboy came back with a container and handed it to me. In the past the busboy or waitress would pack it up. It just wasn’t the same. In our more recent visits prior to this one, Tom’s was really raising their game but this time they’ve slipped. Also, on a Friday night it was about 3/4 empty. I’m hoping this is just a blip but I don’t know based on other reviews as of late. Tom’s, you can do better!

Terribly overpriced. The grilled shrimp appetizer was good, though 5 shrimp for $20 is steep. Filet minion, all I could taste was the char and no meat flavor. Prime rib was decent. We can get an 1/8 of beef back home for what the bill was. Expected much, much more than what we got. Do not recommend. Of note, the wait staff was nice. Not his fault for what they serve.
