Exceptional. 3 of us ate here and it was fantastic. Beautiful lake side location with lovely terrace and very nice atmosphere. All the staff were amazing, friendly, efficient. A great dining place for people looking for the view. You can see the whole other bank of the lake, the city of Varenna. The music is not too loud, it is not crowded, service is nice and quick. However, the portion sizes could be bigger for this price :)

Truly everything was excellent. I've eaten Seafood my entire life, the mixed seafood was absolutely superb. It consisted of a huge octopus tentacle, large Chilean Sea Bass filet, filet of swordfish and Tuna and prawns. Extremely inexpensive with a gorgeous view on the water of Lake Como. To finish it off with a super tasty tiramisu.

Discover a hidden treasure of a restaurant in Menaggio! Everybody congregates in the Piazza of Menaggio, but that is not where you should look for an outstanding restaurant. While the main square of Menaggio is very crowded, I recommend you take a seven minute stroll along the lake by the Grand Hotel Victoria and toward the Minigolf. Somewhat hidden behind the Minigolf is the restaurant La Grolla that offers lunch and dinner during the summer season (April to beginning of November). The view of the lake from the outdoor garden section of La Grolla is unique with the Alps in the north and Varenna and Bellagio across the lake. - Many tables outside of the enclosed restaurant are right at the lake. Since my first review La Grolla has changed in a couple of good ways: First, before the 2024 season the restaurant went through an extensive refinishing process: the old bathroom was gutted and replaced with two modern bathrooms: One simple bathroom with a sink. On of the bathrooms is equipped for handicapped patrons. Visitors with babies will find a changing table. Also, the dining area in the building has been refinished into an open area. On three sides large windows and glass doors let diners enjoy the view of the lake and mountains of the area. The other major change is a new head of the kitchen. Now Giuseppe Odda runs the show, offering a nice choice of appetizers, salads, first and main courses, as well as desserts (s. photos below). Both my visitors and I have found that just one appetizer or a first or main course are sufficient by themselves as a meal but I'm not a growing teenager. Pizza has been eliminated from the menu. Waiting staff has always been attentive and helpful. The menu features a large variety of fish dishes. Fregola, a Sardinian dish featuring a variety of seafood (shellfish, shrimps, a whole crab) on a bed of special pasta has become a favorite among my guests at La Grolla. Other dishes are on the menu, with Sea Bass, Turbot, even Lobster, some with meat. If you wish to eat a plain dish of pasta with a tomato sauce you can just ask for that. It isn't on the menu but some of my guests were asking for it and the kitchen obliged. (Be patient if the restaurant is very crowded if you ask for something that is not on the menu.) In my experience - and I've been a frequent visitor of La Grolla over the years - has been that special preferences due to allergies have been complied with graciously. While I usually don't drink wine, my guests have always been very happy with the selection of the wines. Wine is offered by the bottle or by the glass. Little secret: The bread offered by La Grolla comes in small round pieces with a soft part inside and a crunchy crust. Ends of the long loaves aren't normally served. My wife and I love bread crusts; hence I requested to be served just ends of loaves. I can't wait to return to La Grolla!

Amazing place for dinner in Menaggio! We had dinner here twice and loved the food especially the grilled octopus. We were lucky to meet the owner of the restaurant and had a great chat with him. He even offered us two limoncello shots! Grazie Mille ☺️🫶

The chicche di patate is great- totally will recommend it. The restaurant is not too crowded. Has a very nice ambience and view. Great service as well, the waiters are very friendly and kind. The only con is that the tiramisu is way too sweet.

Posto gradevole per stare in relax in compagnia. Il personale è molto attento e gentile , ben disposto ad accogliere richieste dell'ultimo momento. Cibo buonissimo, peccato per le dosi che sono un po’ poche, soprattutto per quello che paghi. Il personale super accogliente e super simpatico. Bagni puliti e ristorante curato. Metto quattro stelle in un cinque solo per il prezzo che mi sembra un po’ eccessivo per quello che ho mangiato a livello di quantità, intendo. Comunque il listino prezzi del menu è fuori, quindi ognuno è libero di scegliere se entrare o meno, noi siamo entrati consapevoli ma speravamo in dosi del cibo più abbondanti .

Came here for dinner, and wow what a view. For an appetizer we ordered the mixed fried seafood, even though it is technically a secondi on the menu. For the mains we shared the lobster paccheri (which was huge, definitely meant for 2 people), and the linguine vongole. They added bottarga to the linguine vongole which wasn’t my personal favorite. I prefer a more classic white wine garlic sauce, so this flavor kind of killed the meal for me, sadly. Food was great, service was a bit slow but they didn’t have that many waiters/waitresses for all of the tables.

We finally found a good grilled fish place, and our experience was very good and pleasant. The service was also good. We liked the place and the food so much that we want to go back tomorrow (our last day in Menaggio) to try a meat dish and the mussels dish. They looked delicious.

Luogo fantastico lungolago con vista, tranquillo ed elegante. I prezzi sono ok, forse leggermente più bassi della concorrenza. Dallo staff però si percepisce una confusione e disorganizzazione che arriva direttamente al cliente, conseguenza ne è la lunga attesa tra antipasti e primi, probabilmente dovuta al fatto che abbiano perso la comanda relativa all'ordine. Probabilmente perché non è arrivata nemmeno una scusa o giustificazione da parte dei camerieri (che ad un certo punto non sapevano se e cosa avessimo ordinato). È un vero peccato perché i piatti erano abbondanti e buoni (non eccezionali), ma stando alle altre recensioni non pare essere la prima volta che si creano ritardi. Inoltre mi chiedo come sia possibile che due diverse chiamate per prenotare, alle 18 e 18.30, siano rimaste senza risposta, quando in serata lo staff era in buon numero. Il potenziale c'è, ma viene veramente sfruttato male.

Pros : - The view is fantastic! The wine was good. The pizza’s and pasta were ok at best. Cons :- Services was bad. Staff were miserable. The grilled fish I had was from frozen and old, the potatoes were anaemic and would have loved some colour, and the vegetables were tasteless and forgettable. Prices well overpriced for tourists. Considering there are at least 3 top restaurants in Menaggio I would give this a miss!

Il prezzo era davvero alto per quello che offrivano. Sei ravioli costavano quasi 30 euro. E sei anche seduto accanto a un mini golf un po’ rumoroso. (Se vuoi sederti vicino al lago, devi prenotare con largo anticipo).

Poor food and poor service. Do not waste your time: Made a reservation two weeks in advance and requested a seat by the water and came in to receive a poor table with no view. Then a table freed up with a view and we had asked if we could sit there. We were told yes at first and then they had decided that they were too lazy to change the table setting so they told that table had a reservation. Sat there for 40 more minutes. The entire restaurant remained empty with many of lake side tables open. We ordered caprese, sea bream fish and ravioli. All of which were subpar and frankly below restaurant grade standard.
