Fast, delicious, best pastrami sandwiches anywhere. They put so much pastrami in one sandwich, what falls out could make another sandwich. The small fries 🍟 is so big two people can share and you sill can't finish. I have no Idea how big a large fries are. If you thing is large portions to get full this is your place. $12.60 pastrami $3.99 small fries. January 2026
Absolutely love this place. Great service and the cashier Arnaldo greets us like family.
Great service, delicious food, clean restaurant. The best damn pastrami sandwich of my life.
Nice fat sandwiches with mustard and pickles, yummy corned beef on rye, nicely warmed and very big portions of onion rings and fries. The staff has always been friendly at the two locations I’ve been to. Highly recommended.
I have been eating at The Hat for many years at various locations. I'm glad there's a local one now. Even though the prices have increased I feel the food quality and and service has remained high quality even if it appears the sandwiches are a bit smaller. Be sure to come hungry because if you order fries you'll get more than enough to eat. The Hat is clean and well lit. Parking can be a little challenging as there are other stores in the area and the area is very busy and popular. Whether you take out or eat there I'm sure you'll come back for more.
Go here and get the Pastrami Burger and go in on a Chili fry with a friend (it's Ugeee!) They have famous Pastrami! The place is kept clean kept. It has a seat yourself diner feel to it, pretty neat!
I've never been to a place like this. Huge sandwiches overflowing with pastrami. The amount of fries you get in one large order could feed a family. I'm not kidding, it's probably an entire fryer basket of fries. The drinks are interesting with orange and Pina colada drinks that taste like creamsicles in a glass. Nothing you can buy here is by any means healthy or on a diet though.
Friendly service and great food, just as I have been told by several people. Although I live in San Diego, I have been coming up to the Murrieta area for years, visiting family and friends. Somehow, I had never heard of The Hat until about two months ago. I’m glad I finally had a chance to stop by to try it. If I’m ever making the drive up/down while hungry I would stop here again. The pastrami sandwich was really good. Bread, pastrami, mustard, pickles… a perfectly simple combination. I even liked the presentation the way they wrapped and cut the sandwich. Excellently done. Onion rings were pretty good too. I paired that with an Orange Bang and didn’t bat an eye at the $23 total. Good fast food comes at a premium these days and I feel like they’re offering is worth every penny.
WOW the food is incredible. Note that when you order a side of fries - YOU GET A BAG FULL OF FRIES! We had the pastrami dip and gravy covered fries. Everything was sooooooo good!! Can't wait to come back again!
It's a big sandwich I usually can only eat half a sandwich. The large fry fed 3 adults.
Very good pastrami sandwich! The frys are fresh and tasty, and the onion rings are good. It's a little costly but you get a lot of meat. If you have not tried the Hat, you really should, it does not disappoint.
We split an order of fries with gravy. Very big, very good.
Great sandwich loaded up. The horsesauce is a must for me. Get a small fry they are huge.
I went to The Hat in Murrieta for lunch yesterday, and I’m still thinking about how good it was. This place is a true Southern California staple, known for its “World Famous Pastrami,” and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Pastrami Burger, and wow—what a flavor bomb. Juicy beef patty topped with a generous helping of warm, perfectly seasoned pastrami. It’s like the best of both worlds in one sandwich. Rich, savory, and totally satisfying. To top it off, I grabbed an Orange Bang, which was the perfect complement to the meal. Creamy, citrusy, and super refreshing—definitely my new go-to drink there. The service was quick, the portions were huge, and the vibe had that classic, no-frills fast food feel in the best way possible. You can tell they’ve been doing this for decades and have it down to a science. If you’re in Murrieta and craving something hearty and iconic, The Hat is a must-visit. Just make sure you show up hungry—you won’t leave disappointed.
By far the best pastrami sandwich we've ever had. We stop here any time we're nearby. Just wish there was one in San Diego.
We shared the pastrami dip, potato salad, and the onion rings - plenty of food for 2 people. Delicious, quick, satisfying meal. Really hit the spot after bowling and drinking at nearby Forest Lanes! A bit greasy but probably in a good way honestly cause I feel like that's what you're looking for in this type of food! Retro atmosphere - felt transformed back in time!
Great pastrami sandwiches. The large size sides feed 4 with leftovers. I love their BBQ beef sandwich. Messy but worth it!
The HAT Murrieta - Iconic Chilli Cheese Fries in A BIG BOX Still good after many years in Business. Try the Pastrami Dip for a very filling meal as well. Warning LARGE PORTIONS 🚨 Service is good, very clean and employees looked happy to work there. We recommend the HAT just off the 215fwy @murrietahitsprings
The double cheeseburger was juicy and delicious. My daughter had the pastrami dip it was amazing. The portions are generous, and it was great to share amongst the table. It was affordable, great service, a family friendly atmosphere. Definitely coming back and telling others to do the same!
Love the hat. Recently, they found out they had one near me. The food is on point. Always get the pastrami chili cheese sandwhich, with the pastrami chili cheese fries. Recommend it. The onion rings are good. It's better than a lot of other places. I recommend this place to anybody. They have a crazy amount of choices on the menu to be able to mix and match whatever. Yellow pepper chili's all day. Etc.
Food is fantastic, generous portions, pastrami is not to salty, frys are more then generous in the serving. Wish I lived here because I would go again and again
I’m not much of a fan of pastrami sandwiches but this place offers other type of sandwiches and burgers. I got the grilled cheese and they were delish. Hubby got the pastrami dip and he loved it! They also come in pretty large sizes so you’ll certainly get super full with one sandwich. I must say the pastrami chili onion ring is my favorite! The place is clean and has not plenty of staff so the wait is very minimal.
Got the pastrami dip. It came with tons of juicy meat. It has mustard and pickles in it -- if you don't like, you may with to ask without those. The bread is the chewy roll. The juicy meat may make it soggy, so I highly recommend eating it immediately instead of taking it to go. Not bad price for portion: $11
The only reason I’m giving five stars is because I want everybody to see this. This place is very dirty. Very disgusting. I came here and when I got my food, they made everything wrong and when I showed them proof, they refuse to fix my Food they don’t wear gloves when preparing the food and there is dirt everywhere and the employees cough all over the food. Do not come here it is very disgusting and very horrible. This is the worst hat I’ve ever been to I repeat do not come here.
The best pastrami sandwich you will eat. It's double stuffed where you can't say where's the pastrami. There is usually more pastrami than bun.
Lunch was delicious! It's dinner time and I'm still full. The pastrami was hot, tender, and not greasy! The onion rings were crispy and hot. The staff was nice. The restaurant was clean and reminded me of the days when I was younger hanging out at the local burger joint in my neighborhood on a Friday night. It's the layout of the joint and the music that's played over the speaker system. A very chill lunch. Try it, you'll like it. Oh and by the way they also have a drive thru that's easy to get in and out of.
The pastrami dip from The Hat is legendary in my opinion and one of the few things I look forward to when visiting the west coast. They pile the pastrami high so you could actually split one sandwhich between two people, but let's face it...you won't. The chili cheese fries are also pretty amazing and also very filling.
So GOOD!!! From the wet fries to the chili and pastrami sandwiches! All there items are incredibly delicious!! Service is awesome and the restaurant is clean! Highly recommend!!!
Anything I've ever ordered at. The hat has always been excellent. The service is great. It's fast and the quality of food is awesome. I will always eat there whenever I have the chance.
Two pastrami dips and a large fry will feed four people easily. If you haven't tried this place, you need to. I don't live anywhere near one but stop by every time I pass this one.
Southern California is famous for originating In-N-Out but The Hat is equally deserving of recognition for its contribution to the Art of Roadside Food. Featuring a truly outstanding pastrami dip sandwich, each item on the extensive menu is made of the very best ingredients and is served in giant proportions. Starting in 1951, at the intersection of 3rd Street and Ford Boulevard in Boyle Heights, Maurice Maretsky and Alvin Annenberg hit on a formula that has stood the test of time. The second location, a three-window, walk-up stand, at the intersection of Valley Boulevard at Garfield Avenue in Alhambra, is still in business. The chain has grown modestly and deliberately to its current 11 locations, with each restaurant following the same, exact formula of excellent food and speedy service. Unfortunately for me, the nearest Hat is over 36-miles from my home, so I get to treat myself only once in a while (usually when I am passing by a location on the way to someplace else). Of course, I recommend the signature masterpiece on a French roll, but I also love the roast beef (either au jus or with dark brown gravy), the chili burger with mustard, or the loaded hot dog. If you cannot make up your mind, get the best of both worlds by ordering the pastrami burger (which may have originated at The Hat). A cautionary note about the fries: The "small" will easily feed four people and you better be serving a platoon if you get the large size. If you cannot already tell, The Hat gets my Highest Recommendation. It is one of the many blessings we enjoy here in Southern California.
My family and I went to the hat and we really enjoyed the food. The pastrami Burger was loaded with pastrami. My son said it was the best pastrami Burger ever. The pastrami dip was so big that my wife and I shared it.it was full of pastrami nice and juicy the mustard and pickles and the bun were really excellent. The onion rings, oh my God they were just so many onion rings. even after stuffing ourself with them we still had plenty to take home. The price was over $30 but it was well worth it. One thing is for sure no matter how big an eat are you are, you leave their full.
The Hat is awesome. The prices are pretty high for what you get, and I usually end up spending way too much here, but I am never disappointed in the food. My wife loves the pastrami. I love the roast beef (with au jus and horseradish sauce). Also, the cheese and gravy fries are unbelievably good. They are massive. So make sure to split them with someone. Best time to get there is usually right after it opens.
ROAD TRIP! That's what my buddy and I did for this one, A 65 mile road trip from San Diego to get some hot pastrami sandwiches that we've been hearing AND seeing some tasty things about. Our taste buds couldn't wait any longer and we made our trip on 1-9-2021. Now the 5 stars in this review is solely for the Pastrami sandwich however, I did order several items so I could give a slightly better overall opinion. I ordered a chili Tamale, classic cheese burger, onion rings and a Hot pastrami dip of course. The cheese burger was nothing special in my opinion, I could get several much better here in SD, same goes for the chili Tamale, if you've ever been to a Tommy Burger their Tamale is much better, so is the chili. Now the onion rings look like regular fast food onion rings but the taste and crispness of them are much better. They remind me of the kind you get at a County Fair. Now the Pastrami sandwich was incredible. Worth the 65 mile trip and I'd be willing to make the drive many more times just to get one. The bread it was served on tasted fresh baked and was very soft. The pastrami it self was flavorful and juicy, be sure to get extra napkins you'll need em.
Stopped by The Hat and ordered the chili cheese fries with pastrami, tomatoes, pickles, and onions, along with onion rings and a pastrami burger. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, especially the loaded fries. The staff was friendly and helpful. The drive-thru was pretty busy around 2:30 p.m., but the line moved quickly. Overall a great stop for classic pastrami and comfort food.
I love this place and go back every week! The chili cheese fries with added pastrami are my favorite thing and is super filling. It’s a perfect cheat meal to look forward to. But even though the pastrami is what they’re known for, the rest of their food is delicious too. The workers are super nice and accommodating. Orlando and Dulce always remember me, greet me warmly, and get my order done quickly. If you’re in the mood for this kind of food, strongly recommend giving The Hat a try.
Many years ago when I lived in Upland, I used to go to The Hat there. I now live in Hemet and I'm more than happy to take the short drive to Murrieta to go to The Hat there. The term "The Best” may be slightly overused, but not here. For my money, best pastrami sandwich money can buy; the only thing better than the food? The people! Very pleasant genuinely nice people. If I'm willing to drive 25 minutes out of my way to get their pastrami sandwich, trust me, it's gotta' be good. Highly recommended - you just can't go wrong.
LOVE THE FOOD, service is always good and the people are nice. Inside has an old diner feel. My favorite pastrami spot!
The Hat in Murrieta absolutely lives up to its reputation and is a go-to spot for classic, hearty Southern California comfort food. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, and now I fully understand why this place is famous. The pastrami is massive, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served hot, piled high on a fresh roll. It's incredibly flavorful and generous--easily enough to share. The Hat is especially known for its Pastrami Dip Sandwich, their signature item, loaded with tender meat and packed with bold flavor. The portions here are no joke--even a half order can feed multiple people, which is one of the reasons people keep coming back. Beyond the pastrami, the menu is filled with must-try classics. Their Chili Cheese Fries are a fan favorite, often ordered on their own or paired with pastrami, and the onion rings are thick, plentiful, and perfect for sharing. They also offer burgers (including pastrami burgers), hot dogs, and other classic American staples. Everything about The Hat feels old-school and dependable--big portions, quality ingredients, and food that satisfies every craving. If you're hungry and looking for a spot that delivers on flavor, value, and comfort, The Hat in Murrieta is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back!
Most people come here for the pastrami. I myself am more of a burger connoisseur. The hat makes the juiciest, mouth melting burgers. And they don’t skimp on the fries. I am always bringing my family here to enjoy the atmosphere and good food.
I was very surprised by the portion size if each item. Out of this world! Delicious as well! Pastrami Burger and the Chili cheese fries. Wow! From up North visiting, love this place
The Hat has been a long time favorite for me I only wished we had one in San Diego, I always used to go to the Hat back when I was living in Monterey Park where the Hat was located on Valley Blvd. My favorite sandwich was always the famous pastrami sandwich and fries. The one I used to go to was on Garfield and Valley.
I came in just looking for a quick bite while charging my car across the street—and ended up having one of the best surprise meals I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, two team members were detailing the front counter and even cleaning the trash bins—small details that already showed pride in their space. I ordered a double hamburger with avocado and a side of potato salad… and wow. The potato salad even trumped my mom’s (sorry, Mom). The burger was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying—and get this: I spent less than $13. For a fresh-made burger and homemade potato salad in 2025? That’s almost unheard of. While waiting for my food, I went to wash my hands and caught another employee scrubbing the ceiling tiles in the restroom. As a hospitality manager myself, I rarely see this kind of meticulous upkeep, especially on a quiet Sunday night. (7/20/25) The food was absolutely incredible, but what really stood out was the pride this team clearly has in their restaurant. It wasn’t just a meal—it was a full-on reminder of what good service, good food, and a clean space can do for your mood. I’ll definitely be back.
Who doesn't love The Hat! My pastrami sandwich was so packed with meat! I took the other half home to my husband. The staff is friendly and the food was delicious! I only have this one picture because I was bragging to my other daughter back at home where I stopped and had lunch! Sorry not sorry! 😂
I stopped by The Hat and had the pastrami sandwich with a side of chili and onion rings everything was absolutely delicious! The pastrami was perfectly juicy and flavorful, the pickle give the pastrami a nice balance. the chili was a bit bland and too thick but with the the onion rings gave it more flavor. The onion rings alone were crispy and golden, not greasy at all. We ordered a large, and my family ate it fast. Great food, generous portions, and fast service. Definitely coming back!
Amazing pastrami sandwich spot the pastrami is so flavorful great bread the pastrami chilli cheese fries WOW so good and so big it easily feeds two people the service is excellent plenty of parking just Overall an awesome place to grab a bite I have been wanting to try the Hat for awhile and it definitely didnt disappoint
This place is AWESOME! Damn good pastrami sandwiches. Delicious! Even the fries are great. The store was very clean. I've owned a few restaurants, and I'm a germaphobic, so I always check out the kitchen, and their food prep area was busy but still clean. The portions were great. I was almost able to finish a whole sandwich. Their large fries can be shared by three people. The service was excellent. They are on the same level as In-and-Out. They were fast polite and wanted to please. I'll be back and try more items on the menu.

A Southern California chain that serves sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs. But best Known for world famous pastrami dip. We had the pastrami burger on a soft sesame bun and I have to say, I was blown away. I’m used to pastrami’s being sliced thick and being extremely salty. However, it’s not the case here. I’ve been having it wrong all this time! The pastrami ($12.60) was sliced thinly and it wasn’t salty. The onion rings ($4.85) came in a brown paper bag and it soaked up the grease. Nicely battered. We got chili fries ($8.60) and added cheddar ($1.99). I didn’t like that the cheddar was not melted. Next time we would get small regular fries ($3.99) and a cup of chili ($2.99). The soda fountain has touchless systems for the cups.
There was a lot of hype around this place... The burgers were good but nothing special. The order of fries are really big and probably better to split, but the best part was the pastrami sandwich. Was not a fan of the gravy, but I know many others who love it.
The Food is DELICIOUS!!! However, very expensive on some items. I love their fully loaded chili cheese fries, with Hot Pastrami and diced tomatoes and sliced dill pickles. Truly a meal for a hungry party. The drinks are EXPENSIVE! My order: loaded chili cheese fries with all the toppings, a double cheese burger and a large drink. Total . . . $29.09!!! For this amount I could get a 16 oz steak with two sides from Steer N Stein. I guess this is why I only go to the Hat once in a blue moon.
Im not really a meat eater but this is way better than Mcdonald's. Its cooked fresh in front of you and chefs serve some of the best american food. The chili cheese fries is worth the eat because they serve alot and the cheese burgers are delicious. Not to much meat nor to little, just right to fill that empty stomach that craves american food.
Very good sandwich. It was a little Bland and dry. Not sure what the dip means as there was no dip. The fries were fresh and hot. Huge portion. Again. Definitely needed salt and the ketchup packets are pretty much worthless as they have very little ketchup in them.
Got the pastrami with onion rings. The pastrami was good and the onions were too. A star was deducted because they use ranch packets, which were mediocre. Just make some in house.
Get the pastrami or the pastrami burger. Chili cheese fries were also amazing. Steak sandwich sucks
I've been here several times just for the pastrami sandwich " with extra meat ! And a small order of fries " which is enough for two , very flavorful and fresh you gotta stop by and try " i highly recommend this spot😋💯
The pastrami sandwiches my family and I got were delicious and filling, you don't walk away hungry from here. $13 for their signature pastrami dip is a very generous price in these times. Only reason I give it 4 stars is that their fries are severely under seasoned. Though I will say they also generous with the portions, I typically get large fries at most places because fries are yummy and I want more. I barely ate any of my fries and had so much after my sandwich. Later on I tossed them in the air fryer with Steak n Shake seasoning (if you're ever by 1, get it) and they were way better. I think next time I'll just get the sandwich only lol.
Solid pastrami, personally really enjoy the soaking sandwich. Very juicy and flavorful. Service was quick.

I would give it 5 stars if they had small or medium chili cheese fries. I've bought the chili cheese fries a few times, and they always go bad because it's too much for an individual, and at almost 10 bucks, it really adds up. With the pastrami, small drink, and chili cheese fries (btw they charge extra to add cheese or else theyre just chili fries), a regular lunch comes out to almost $30 (about 28 and change). This place is good, but they're a little out of touch. Get some lunch specials with smaller portions, we'll all appreciate it, and so will our wallets.
I ordered a pastrami and a turkey sandwich. I thought the portions were very small expecting a lot more . Turkey was rediculess almost a portain for like a 5 year old with almost no turkey meat in the sandwich. It seems for some reason at this location, I have continually get really small portions of meat…I have really been disappointed.
OK, let's start with the staff; very efficient, order came very quick, and we were there right at the lunch time rush. They continually are cleaning, and it shows; very clean restaurant !! Now the food. I had a chili dog which was very good. My wife had the roast beef dip, and she said that the roast beef was very dry; thank God for the dipping sauce. That sauce was very thinned out on it's own. They are very plentiful on a large order of onion rings; best to split with 2 or more people. The onion rings were very crisp, but the oil they cook them in taste old; sorry. I will come back and give it another chance. Next time my wife will try their famous pastrami.
I think the Pastrami could be seasoned more! The Pastrami I've had in the past at other restaurants where seasoned a lot better. But other than that it's a ok sandwich! The chili looks good but it'…

It's not worth the price!! Fries, medium soda, and a pastrami burger $21 bucks. Soggy and cold fries that I ended up returning. The pastrami is nothing to rave about and ordinary. The place is very outdated, very busy but I really don't get the exorbitant prices. I wouldn't recommend it to friends or eat here again.
The Hat just isn’t what it used to be. Chili burgers used to come dripping with chili — now it’s barely a swipe like mayo. Prices haven’t gone down, but the quality sure has. Our online order was supposed to be ready at a certain time, but we waited another 15 minutes. The place was dead, so not sure what the holdup was. Their review ratings have dropped in the last couple months, and now I get why. Won’t be back till things turn around.
The pastrami is served warm and a bit wet on your burger with no to little flavor they do serve you a lot of pastrami in the burger but the pastrami isn't great at all. Definitely a white fast food restaurant like a Tom's burgers or gus gr type of burger spot just cheaper I'd say with certain things on the menu this place looks like a budget fast food spot because they serve very heavy on the servings like Chilli fries and a burger with pastrami. Definitely a place just to get filled up not a spot to come enjoy food with flavors and food you can get else where at a fast food burger spot. For pastrami I'd say you can find an actual spot that is dedicated to making a flavorful good pastrami.

Very disappointed with the whole experience. $10.79 for lower quality sandwiches than one can get at Arby's for $5. My wife orders the "Pastrami dip" thinking it'll be like a "French dip" with a side of au jus for dipping. No, it comes with nothing not even the mustard and pickles the cashier asked if we wanted and my reply was "Yes, on the side, please." I ordered the BBQ beef sandwich and got roast beef, instead. Total for two sandwiches, two drinks and the mound of chili cheese fries was just over $40. I figured it would be closer to $38 and asked the cashier if that amount was correct "Yep" while giving me the "I've been doing this for two months and I don't make mistakes." look. 2 sandwiches @ $10.79 two drinks $3.19 & $3.79 and the "mound" $7.29 comes to $35.85 add tax and it's just over $39. So, somehow I got charged an extra dollar for I don't know what, because they don't give you a receipt, just an order number. When I took the uneaten half to the counter to ask if it was indeed the roast beef "Yes, but why did you eat the other half? You should have brought it up right away." "Well, never having been here before, I didn't know what your BBQ beef looks or tastes like." Needless to say, next time I pass through Murrieta, I won't be stopping there.
We went in to give them some business but the person at the register who looked like possibly the owner or manager gave our group a mean look. For context we have a small group of disabled adults who most bring their own lunch from home. I asked him if it was ok for us to eat there while a couple of us bought food there and he said yes but to not take up too many of the tables, this was around 11 am which is lunch time but the place was practically empty and there was plenty of seating. We didn’t feel comfortable with the way he continued to look at us so decided to leave instead. It’s sad that people don’t have compassion and it’s not like we go in there every day to eat our lunches from elsewhere.
I usually don't do reviews, but today I have too. Came here with family hungry and wanting good sandwiches like we have had in the past, went drive through ordered roast beef sandwiches waited almost 15min. Got our food went home started eating and my wife taste something funny looks at sandwich meat is green, I am no expert but I know that if meat is green and smells it's no good. We checked my sons sandwich same thing green meat and the smell when you smell it upclose wow. This place has deteriorate very bad. I know it's like 9pm but come on why serve green meat? Get a better kitchen manager and staff.
I spent $89 on a big order and Chili cheese fries we ordered were stail so I tried to take them back but the Manager had a bad attitude. She said since ate some of it, (we only took a few bites) she wouldnt replace it, after said she should replace all of it, she said I'll only give you a little bit. I said never mind
