Little gem hidden in Menlo Park! By far the best sushi restaurant i found after searching two months in San Jose area. (Just moved here, don't wanna drive 1+ hour to SF) This restaurant is around the corner of a shopping street. A bit small but very cozy. Not sure if I was lucky or not, came here twice and easily got the other side street parking. There are also some parking lots along the street or nearby. Reservation is easy for Saturday lunch and most people do walk-in. I heard Friday night is usually quite busy though. The first time I ordered some sushi and mushroom tempura - very tasty and fresh. So I decided to come back and try nigiri omakase. The weekend special is $60 and the fish are all shipped from Japan - compared to some other great omakase restaurants, this one is definitely not pricy. Since it's freshly caught, the fish type is a bit different every week. The chef was very friendly and patient explaining all the special fish. I winded up 10 pieces and ordered a lot more. My favorite was the raw Saury fish sushi, hard to find in other places, immediately melted in my mouth and a strong distinctive taste. Every piece was fresh and delicately made with careful selection of ginger/green onion/Yuzu salt/shiso leaf. Rice was also well flavored and warm. At the end I had my last piece tamago, personally not a fan of it in general but this one was quite good. I ended up super full and satisfied. This is definitely a place worth half hour driving to me. Will come back more often.

I liked this Japanese place 🌸. Everything was absolutely fresh and tasty. I enjoyed a delicious Nigiri Combination, and my husband had the Salmon Misoyaki. The only small issue for my husband was the portion size, which was about half of the regular amount. 😋

High quality Japanese restaurant. Small but good ambience, decorations and great food. We tried the six course omakase for $80 dollars per person. A glass of daijinju sake accommodated which would add the extra half star if I can give it. First course was the wagyu beef warp with lobster, uni and Roe. Second course was the Alaskan sea cucumber soup cooked with fresh fish for six hours according to our waitress. It was absolutely delicious. Third course was the blue fin toro.... That melt in your mouth. And Japanese snapper sashimi was really fresh. Then came the hokaido scallop fan and shrimp tempura with some special house sauce that was uniquely tasty. Fifth course was the eel over rice with miso soup followed by green tea cake. Our waitresses were thorough in explaining each course and told us the omakase menu changes every month. I'm already looking forward to next month. Highly recommended.

Upscale feeling Japanese restaurant by downtown Menlo Park. The space inside feels modern and intimate, a very nice ambiance for a date night. We ordered a roll and the yuzu chicken teriyaki -- both were delicious. Overall, I'd come back to try more of their dishes.

Food quality is amazing, fish super fresh. I sat at the bar and ordered two rolls, sushi man with great skills and making beautiful plates. Highly recommend it!

One word: amazing! The food was scrumptious . I enjoy all the food there. And my favorite dish is omakase nigiri . You could tell the each nigiri was externally fresh and unique.I still dream about it.I cannot wait to come back!

The staff was very nice and attentive! The crazy roll was delicious and it was quality. I also got 2 pieces of salmon nigiri that were also great. I’d come here again!

The quality of the seafood is very good. The tempura is crunchy and lightly battered. Try the chawanmushi. For desserr try the macha cheesecake.

Great place for sushi! They have some unique cooked dishes as well. Their fish is fresh and according to them, some of it is shipped from Hokkaido. My husband brought me here for Valentine's dinner and we had the 7 course meal. It was $100 per person but we'll worth it. Every dish was tasty and well presented. This isn't a very big restaurant though so probably reservations are recommended. The only real down side to my meal is the timing of the courses. I've been to some very fancy restaurants that serve up courses faster than this...but it also seemed like our table was among the slowest because mostly every other table had at least two seatings by the time we were done! I'd still come back though, the service itself was friendly and timely too.

Absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of the best sushi places I have found on the peninsula. The sushi is outstanding, and their chicken katsu taught me that chicken katsu can be pretty incredible.

Great new find! Very small and cozy has a true Japanese feel. Almost felt like in Tokyo. Prices are a bit higher than in everyday sushi place but very reasonable for the level of decor service and presentation. They play close attention to presentation and it’s very pleasing. And of course the best part are the plates choice!!!! I wanted to have every single of them at home! Overall THE most STYLISH sushi place in peninsula.

Excellent Japanese restaurant. We had a quick dinner on Saturday evening and we were not disappointed. Food is indeed very tasty and there is a nice, quiet atmosphere. Service is good and efficient, it didn't take too much to get our food (even hot dishes). There's not much space inside to get big groups seated, but if you find a spot I definitely recommend a visit.

We’ve been coming to Kyosho for the last 2 years, and it is a family favorite. There’s something here for everyone, and the prices are extremely reasonable. This time, we ordered bincho bites, gyoza, green dragon roll, Kyosho roll, lobster risotto, and unagi pot. Everything was delicious!! We especially recommend the green dragon, kyosho, and unagi pot!! Go try this!

The sashimi pieces were very fresh and delicious. My favorites from the tasting plate were the kampachi and the salmon belly. The uni was excellent, and I prefer having it as nigiri. From the bluefin trio, my favorite was the one on the far left — it was fresh, tender, and more moist, with a hint of yuzu flavor. The Crazy Roll was a bit spicy, but just the right amount. The place is small but clean, with a cozy izakaya-style atmosphere. The service was very good and prompt. I will definitely come back again.

This is easily one of the best hidden sushi place in the Menlo Palo area. The place is cute and cozy. The fish is very fresh and perfectly cut. The propriety sauce on the bluefin was just perfect - it complements the tuna beautifully. The mango cheesecake was just the right portion size and flavorful - not too sweet.

I made a reservation here for a team dinner and the service was very good. The food itself was pretty good (not mind blowing), the vibes were good, and the servers were very nice and accommodating. Always proactive in refilling tea and water. Very nicely offered an extra scallop in our appetizer since we had 7 people and there would it be 6 pieces in 2 orders. Omakase was not super expensive but was good. She explained each of the fish to us and it was placed in a recommended eating order from light to rich. Also ordered a few rolls and my favorites were the dragon and crazy rolls. Toro sashimi was good too. Overall definitely a good place for team dinners since the company is paying anyway.

Loved the whole dining experience. The Omakase Nigiri started with a Prawn Miso Soup, followed by fresh and well-prepared sushi. We had two rolls together with a bottle of warm Sake as well.

Chefs inside really understand what is a good Japanese food. The mustard is freshly ground, and the soy sauce is also specially added with sake and whiskey. But in fact, the sushi and sashimi produced by the chef have been seasoned and slightly added with mustard, so they can be eaten directly, and they are super delicious. Unlike other popular Japanese restaurants, many of its dishes are exclusively created. What you think is eel rice is actually eel clay pot rice, juicy, and there is also burnt rice! Can you believe that ordinary edamame is actually scooped with truffles? Even sea urchins, I ate three different ways in one meal. Every taste is top-notch. Simple wagyu udon, in fact, every grain of wagyu is the essence, crispy on the outside and has the delicate and juicy taste of wagyu itself. According to the chef, each piece of wagyu has Japanese birth certificate to ensure the authenticity of the source, and I am too lazy to count how many A's there are. The soup base is also homemade pork bone soup, and no pre-made soup bags are used.

This restaurant is worthy of a Michelin star. I always get the omakase here, which is a great value for the quality and craftsmanship of the food. On weekends it's only $60 for 10 pieces, but for the ultimate dining experience you'll want to make a reservation for the 10 course omakase chef's special for $200. It requires a minimum of two weeks notice and is well worth the wait. They also have a really incredible sake selection, which is also worth the splurge. It's a tiny restaurant, and incredibly popular so plan your visit accordingly!

This is probably the best Japanese restaurant in Menlo Park. Everything is authentic, classy and delicious. They have fresh specials everyday. The hotate is great! The service was good despite that they had one lady doing everything. She was bussing tables, taking orders, the cashier and the food runner; yet, she was patient and never showed any stress. We also recommend the omakase sushi. Highly recommend!

A small little high class Sushi place. You feel like I'm Tokyo in a Sushi bar. The quality is great and the lady in the service is very friendly and gave us the right direction to order the best things for us. We will be back for sure. Even the price is really good. We paid $95 for 2 rolls, 1 salmon dish, 2 miso soups, edamame and tea for both of us.

Chef tasting menu dining experience Kyosho is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants you can find in South Bay. But since it’s a tasting menu I’m holding it to a higher standard. The first two dishes started out amazing. The yuzu vinegar in the toro mix is very refreshing and the chawamushi gives a nice (homey) variety. I’m not impressed by the next three dishes however. The sashimi sampler is a bit underwhelming (doesn’t show chef skills really). The hotpot sea bass is ok (lots of broth but broth is not drinkable). Then the hamachi crude feels repetitive after the sashimi sampler. The waitress was super nice for pouring me a glass of sake. The nigiri afterwards were delicious. The strawberry cheesecake is good but not wow. Overall for the price the omakase menu feels a bit awkward. I can pay a bit more and get a premium omakase experience. Or I can spend less and there are other places with better nigiris. I probably wouldn’t get the tasting menu here again.

Brought a dear friend here who came from NY. Had mentioned that NY's sushi was lacking. Ordered the 6-course omakase, along with a side of A5 wagyu beef and snow crab legs. The A5 wagyu is incredibly tender, didn't really need any seasoning. Eat it as is. Snow crab legs were removed incredibly cleanly. Wish all my crab meat came like this. Chilled, just a light sweetness, add wasabi if you must, there's only deliciousness waiting for you. The omakase started with a serving of A5 wagyu wrapped around a circular lobster bit with tobiko on top and mustard for garnish. Light and smooth sour flavor from the mustard worked great with the beef. Next was sea cucumber served in uni with pumpkin to garnish. Much like a savory seafood custard. Great for seafood afficionados, but can be off-putting if you don't like the base ingredients. A 3-set sashimi followed. The most memorable piece was the roe piece, like popping boba but with the flavor of the sea and a subtle sweetness. The scallop piece was covered by a fan-shaped tempura-style noodle on top of a shrimp tempura, which sat on top of the scallop surrounded by avocado sauce. The noodle reminded me of eating the legs off grilled shrimp; thin, crispy, and savory. The scallop was lovely, only wish I could've had another. Main entrees ended with a mini-bowl of unagi and miso soup. The unagi meat just broke down with a light tug from your chopsticks. Dessert was green tea cheesecake. Incredibly creamy, but lacking in green tea flavor. Probably need to use matcha as cheesecake's inherent flavor is strong. Small bits of feedback, would've appreciated the meal started with the unagi donburi and miso was introduced as the starter and ended on the wagyu lobster rolls. Cheesecake could use some matcha and steel forks. Other than that, meal was amazing, would come back to see their other omakases.

Heard this opened about a month ago and decided to come try it out. I came in Tuesday dinner and there was no line, but the restaurant was getting pretty full by the time I left. We had the toro tartare, the nigiri omakase, and the sushi taco. The toro tartare was a little too salty, but the nigiri omakase was decent. The rice unfortunately wasn't the best though -- too hard. The fish itself and composition of the nigiri made it worth it though. I tried the sushi taco to end the meal. I'm glad they didn't skimp out on the fish for the taco, but the taco shell was just way too salty. It was overall a decent meal, but I probably wouldn't come back. Personally, I'd rather eat high-end sushi or cheap sushi instead of more of a medium tier like this.

X
Xinyue Ou

Kyosho has Michelin level of sushi but their service is a lackluster. Apparently the two servers have way too many things to do an didn’t have enough time to care for each table. Food is really good. Omakase nigiri is a must have.

B
Brandon Knitter

Everything is fresh, and tat is likely the most important part. Prices very reasonable!! Servers don't know much about sake, but the selection is decent. Small place, but clears out quick after a crowd comes through. If there is a line, go shop on Santa Cruz for a moment and there will be a spot when you return. The omakase specials are a great deal!!

4.5/5 Great meal Soothing, subtle decor Casual but with a upscale feel Stoneware and tableware carefully chosen Nice touches on edamame with warm oil and sea salt Wagyu beef nigiri - excellent As well as special sashimi of the night: snapper fresh from Hokkaido Liked the warm Mount Fuji “roll” served in a custom bowl

A bit heavy on sauce/ seasoning with A5 wayu dinner plate. The nigiri premium is pretty good. Good place for casual dining. The decor in house is absolutely charming. However, one thing I'd like to mention is that I love the artwork carving out "Kyosho" on the wall with the light shining through it. However, I would recommend considering laser cutting for a cleaner finish, it is hard to unsee those rough edges when paying close attention to decor details.

I’ve been here a few times. This place is a bit small but I’ve been fortunate to get seating relatively quickly. The staff is friendly and quick. The food is pretty solid. The sashimi has always been good. I haven’t tried any specials. It’s on the higher end (price wise) for sushi in the area but it’s good quality. My favorite spot and best bang for the buck is Omee J Fusion in Santa Clara but this is a good spot. I would recommend checking this spot out if you’re in downtown Menlo Park.

Very nice and cosy interior for a Japanese restaurant. Had the salmon roll with avocado which had yuzu sauce. This was nice and light and is recommended. The tempura udon was a sizeable dish. However, the udon soup was too salty. Overall a nice place for dinner.

The Sushi rolls were fine in taste but little smaller in size compared to the price and other locations in that area. We ordered five rolls and two of us could finish all of it in one go. The ingredients were fresh and the they were made beautifully. 5 rolls came in four environment friendly boxes, that is minimal use of plastic. Overall we liked the presentation, preparation and taste. Food was ready on time as well.

The 10 pcs premium nigiri sushi omakase was just ok. Fishes were fresh and tasty. However, sushi rice was hard, not much flavor and too little for each pc. Miso soup tasted good but the shrimp head in the bowl was fishy, not fresh at all.

I recently visited Kyosho for lunch, and while the sushi rolls were pretty good, I was disappointed by the sashimi and nigiri, which lacked freshness. Surprisingly, the restaurant was completely empty, which made the rushed service even more odd. The server seemed eager to bring our check, making the experience feel unwelcoming. Unfortunately, to top it off, I ended up with a stomach ache after the meal. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Kyosho based on my experience—there are better options out there for sushi.

Updating our review from awhile ago. Was five stars and excellent several times BEFORE. Today was beyond disappointed. Way too expensive for what we got. $148!!! For TWO people. See last image as compared to previous times. Miso soup. So small. $8 for 3/4 to one cup of soup. Rolls were small. One only has 6 pieces. Edamame had no flavor. Service. Waited longer than they told us. When we got home there weren't any chop sticks. There wasn't enough wasabi and no soy sauce. Only pro was the freshness of the fish and flavor of the rolls. Our old review is below. What happened? WOWZER! Our new favorite local sushi restaurant. Super fresh sushi. Imaginative rolls. Beautiful presentation. We have only enjoyed takeout. We haven’t dined-in. Cute ambiance though. Friendly service too.

My husband became seriously ill with food poisoning after dining at this restaurant on 4/6/25. We are confident the cause was the sushi rolls only he ate. I attempted to contact them the following morning to inform them, but the call went straight to a voicemail box that was full. It’s especially disappointing because our family has enjoyed meals here in the past—it’s always felt like a welcoming neighborhood spot. Unfortunately, after this experience, we won’t be returning.

We had dinner at Kyosho’s with my family and we had a horrible experience. There was one inexperienced waitress serving around 9 tables with little to no additional help. She didn’t know the dishes she was bringing out and she misnamed them so it was very confusing for the individuals in our party to get the food we ordered. She brought one dinner to the wrong person before the appetizers so we didn’t realize it was for the wrong person until after. Then she put another order wrong and tried to push that one on us. She brought the wrong miso soups out and the wrong number. She didn’t clear the table before bringing the dessert. The manager was there and did almost nothing to help. I asked the manager a question about our dish and she left and never came back. Then the waitress brought the bill out left the machine without telling us the tip was already included. It was the worst experience I’ve had in over 20 years.

I don’t really like spending time writing about restaurants I won’t return to. But to hopefully save other ppl from wasting their time and money, here’s a quick rundown: When you first walk in it’s dimly lit and has the atmosphere of a small but respectable cocktail bar. It feels fancy but it was also strange why a sushi place would have dim lighting. By the time we left, it was easy to know why this works best for this restaurant. - Had flies on the table behind ours - Ran out of ingredients for an appetiser on a Saturday morning (we visited in the evening) - Soy sauce cruets were suspiciously dirty and ours was not filled. Tried one from another table and it only had a few drops left. - Asking us to order main course whilst we were still eating appetisers (we opted to order several appetisers first) - Not selling liquor as they were renewing their license - Some cuts like the toro were good, but all the fish was improperly kept. The toro was partially frozen when served, the other fish we had all had an abnormal fishy taste. The tuna was discoloured enough that I could see it clearly even in that dark restaurant. - Portions are tiny like a fancy restaurant, incredibly overpriced, but the taste is horrifyingly bad. Every appetiser we got was lathered with cheap tasting sauces to try and mask the fact none of their fish is fresh. We left after the appetisers and went to another restaurant. I was so mortified that I refused to let the person who had taken us there pay for the meal and I paid for it because it was painfully bad and I just couldn’t bear for anyone else to have to pay for something so awful. We all had a bad time with the food. Looking back at the reviews, there are negative reviews that I should’ve paid attention to. Sometimes when I see them I just think it is an exaggeration. It is not. This restaurant was recently sold to someone new and it hasn’t been that many months. So it’s unsurprising that the older reviews are much better. It would be tragic if people who come here genuinely thought they were getting decent fish because they don’t know their sushi. Please go elsewhere. All the other restaurants were packed this day (Saturday evening, the busiest of times), but this place only had a few tables filled.

We’re Menlo Park locals and genuinely try to support neighborhood restaurants whenever we can. We decided to give Kyosho a try on a Saturday evening after not having been there in years. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had. We were two families with two young kids total and arrived right when they opened for dinner at 5:15 pm. We were the first table seated. We were hoping for a relaxed, healthy meal with some good fish and sushi. That didn’t happen. Food took an extremely long time to arrive. Some dishes never came at all. After waiting more than an hour, we ended up canceling the remaining items and leaving around 6:30 pm. We left hungry, with our kids crying and frustrated. When dishes did arrive, the experience didn’t improve. The sushi rolls were falling apart, clearly not rolled properly. At one point, the server brought a dish to the table and couldn’t even tell us what it was. For a sushi restaurant, that’s pretty concerning. The total bill was around $300 including tip, but it was incredibly disappointing to spend that much and leave hungry. As locals who truly want small businesses in Menlo Park to succeed, this was frustrating. This was easily our worst Saturday night dinner experience in recent memory. We really wanted to like this place. Sadly, we can’t recommend it.
