Opinions de Micaela mar y leña Mérida
This restaurant won a lot of awards and it is obvious why. James Beard style Mexican fusion cuisine. This is a real place for food. Absolutely delicious and well seasoned. And the service is excellent. Easily one of the best in town. I would eat here every week if I could. You should absolutely go here.
This place is absolutely delicious. We’ve been in Merida for 2 weeks and tried a lot of different restaurants and this one is by far the best. The food is so tasty. Definitely must go when in Merida. Make sure you make a reservation as they are always full. We had the octopus (which is the best octopus I’ve ever had), the ribs with mole and the shrimp with tamales. All dishes were excellent
Excellent food—every detail of flavor is thoughtfully crafted, from the smallest bite to the main dish. The service was honestly the best I’ve ever had: very attentive, knowledgeable, and never intrusive. They were there exactly when needed, seamlessly bringing food and drinks. We had the tostada de pulpo with esquites and chapulines, tamales with shrimp sauce, and for the main dish, lentils with chicharrón. Every dish was outstanding. I will definitely be going back soon. If you’re a foodie, you absolutely can’t miss this incredible dining experience.
This is our first night out having dinner in Merida and what a memorable experience. The service from Armando was top notch. We tried out the grilled octopus, shrimp tamale and the bone marrow. Everything was well done with so much flavor. The only nitpick is the drink, not as impressive as I thought and less flavorful. Will definitely come back for more.
The best meal I had in Mexico. The service is prompt but not overbearing. Lovely octopus, tamales, and smoked watermelon. Everything is made with imagination, and the ingredients really shine through and make a delicious meal! The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. I would highly recommend!
Busy - we made a reservation. Lovely, vibrant restaurant and bar. Food was delicious - tamales to start, grilled shrimp (more than we could eat) and corvina fillet with large corn and a spectacular shrimp broth for the mains. Great mezcal cocktails and a couple of glasses of Mexican wine. Luis was an excellent bi-lingual host with extensive knowledge and understanding of the menu - thank you for making our evening so engaging. 1 Starter, 2 (large) mains, 3 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine - Peso $1800/ GB£77. Outstanding value. (Lost a star for Atmosphere because we were placed in the ‘group’ room. Fortunately, the ‘group’ turned up as we were settling the bill).
Definitely one of the top spots in town, and probably my favorite so far. Fantastic food, service that's just above and beyond, a generous drinks selection, not to mention an unparalleled atmosphere. We need more places like this, so I invite the competition to visit, often, and learn.
Micaela Mar y Leña was highly recommended by local friends and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is very cozy and the colorful decoration is full of details. I particularly loved the intentionally mismatched floor tiles and the tin hearts on the wall. Food is excellent, I suggest the octopus, the green ceviche and the raw tuna. Also their foamy version of arroz con leche is surprisingly delicious. Service is excellent, the waiters are very well groomed and trained. We were celebrating a birthday and received a complementary “dark chocolate piñata” with a little candle, which apart from being a nice detail, was also very good. Definitely a must go, just make sure to book a reservation in advance, since the wait can be long.
Yum!! This is one of the best meals we’ve had in our month in Mexico. The fish ceviche was fresh and tasty. And the tuna tacos were the best we have eaten - so fresh. Almost considered extending our stay so we could go back. The resturant has lovely atmosphere and staff are so helpful and friendly. Couldn’t recommend anymore.
Wow! This place has GREAT FOOD. The atmosphere is relaxed but up market, the service is phenomenal, Im so excited that we ate here it was truly delicious and a great time! Will be coming back if im in Merida again. The unique take on mezcal drinks is really something and it was one of the highlights along the beef ribs and the octopus. I have had A LOT of great food across continents and this is up there with the best.
We had a delicious dinner in a fabulous neighbourhood with attentive service. This place was a great vibe, with a circa 1950s-60s feel to it. The classic decor and black white films displayed around the bar gave it a unique touch. Now to the food - we had the bone marrow, the grilled octopus, duck tacos and tangy ceviche. All of which were mouth watering scrumptious. I highly recommend if you are in Merida. The restaurant stayed open quite late and there were still arrivals for drinks around 11pm when we were paying our bill.
Excellent! I loved everything about this place. Casual setting with very sophisticated cuisine and outstanding service! We ordered Bone marrow and Shrimp ceviche for appetisers, Octopus, and Cauliflower for dinner, Sorbet cheesecake for dessert. Everything was amazing! The flavours , and their combinations were beyond any of my expectations, food presentation was excellent too! I definitely recommend
Absolutely fantastic food, very interesting vibe, wonderful friendly service. We loved it so much that we went back again the next evening!

Micaela’s is one of the few “fusion” restaurants that I respect. Usually, I think fusing different cuisines is clumsy, ineffective, and winds up detracting from each of the fused cuisines. Micaela’s …

Fun lively restaurant. Beautiful interior. The octopus is one of the best meals we had in our 10 days in Mexico. Great neighborhood to stroll before or after dinner.

The best restaurant in Mexico! Even though it is an upscale gourmet place, the simplicity and warm environment, makes you feel at home.

A friend recommended the place. We had a reservation but arrived 45 minutes too late. They still served us, first at the bar, later on a table. The entire time tables were empty, reservation system blocks a lot of capacity. The food was delicious. Service was good. We would come again. Like many places in Merida, a bit overpriced.

Extensive drink and wine list, about 4 times bigger than the food menu. Kind of overwelming, we order 2 of the signature cocktails, not the best idea. A salad with watermelon, nice flavor but a lot of seeds. For having a wood fire grill the polpo did not spend enough time there, rather rubbery. Interesting desert, never had anything like it but it was good.

New hot spot in Merida. Upbeat playlist and vibe. Food was heavily salted and a glass of fruit juice had half the rim of the glass salted. As we were presented with a six to eight page drink menu…
I went to enjoy the octopus plate there but I was greatly disappointed. The picture in their menu and online menu is very deceiving and isn't even close to what you get served. The portion is very small, about 1/3 or less of a full octopus and they make it look larger by putting it on top of a sweet potato base. For the price of this item,I have found another restaurant away from this tourist area that is truly delicious and a generous portion. I would not eat it here again. Vivora restaurant is excellent compared to this one and more local.
We went to this restaurant as we love seafood, we did not have a reservation as we didn't think will be necessary. We can't say nothing about the food because we never got to eat there, but if the …
The food is not good enough. I cannot fathom how you have a 4.7 rating on Google. We ate at NOL one week before, and the difference is staggering. That is truly high-end food—perhaps in a space that doesn’t match it—but at least the food is sublime. Your restaurant seems far more interested in creating a cool, playful, relaxed environment than in making good food. That would be a great idea if the food were good, but it lacks flavour, the plating prioritizes wow factor over the eating experience, and the dishes are poorly thought out or poorly balanced. I’m not saying the food was 7/10 and I expected 9/10 for the price. The food was 5/10. Really not good. Edible because we were hungry, but if my Spanish were better and we weren’t that hungry, I would have sent it back. Looking around the room, I saw many foreigners and wealthy Mexicans who seemed more focused on their outfits, impressing their table guests, and fitting the vibe than on what they were eating. This is a place to see and be seen. There are countless restaurants like this on nice streets in trendy neighbourhoods all over the world, but I don’t know how this one ended up with such a high rating. Seafood-stuffed cuaresmeño peppers – $295 MXN The server suggested we cut the peppers and mix everything with the sauce in the shallow bowl. There is far too much “xcatic dip and mayonnaise” sauce. That sauce completely overwhelms everything. The crunchy pepper, crispy onions, and seafood disappear into a cold, creamy mess. The sauce itself isn’t good and barely tastes of xcatic pepper. Honestly, it tasted like drinking a cold soup of mayonnaise, media crema, cilantro, and lime—and not in a sophisticated way. It was unpleasant. Pulpo Caimán a la leña – $490 MXN (an award-winning dish, apparently) The dish looks impressive because the octopus is nearly intact and served with a large knife sticking out of it—very Instagram-able. The octopus is fine but still slightly chewy, and the exterior char was not crispy at all, possibly because it’s prepared in advance and reheated. Underneath is a whole sweet potato with the skin on, which you’re expected to cut and peel yourself. It has little flavour and seems to exist purely for presentation. There’s also a small salad with avocado sauce that was fine, but I doubt anyone would notice if it were replaced with a store-bought guacamole. The entire dish tasted flat. Costilla de res en miel de mole – $460 MXN Another poorly considered presentation. A salad on top of a beef rib on top of mashed potatoes, with the mole-honey sauce poured over everything tableside. The result is a pile of food that immediately turns into a stew once you try to cut the meat. I had to deconstruct the dish to eat it. The beef was tender, but there was too little of it for the price. The mole-honey sauce was boring and flat, with a thick, clumpy texture that became even more noticeable because it was poured at the table. It looked like a sauce that had been sitting on low heat all day. The beef lacked depth of flavour, and the mashed potatoes underneath were also clumpy and unremarkable. This restaurant does not care about its food. That much is clear. These were three of the most expensive signature dishes on the menu. Maybe ordering them was the mistake. The best thing I ate was the shrimp broth amuse-bouche, and that’s saying something. This place should have a 4.0 or 4.1 rating, not 4.7.
