Very close to causeway Blvd and tucked a couple of blocks away from the hustle is this little gem. Get reservations because it is crowded but comfortable. Not a cheap place at all…but worth it. I was staying at the Sheraton (yuck) and i walked the 3 blocks there and 3 blocks back with my takeout. Salad was authentic Italian with capers Italian cheese olive lettuce and tomato…very good (not enough salad for two) and the entree came with a big piece of Italian bread! Highly recommend
This place is family owned and operated. The owners are very personable and lovely. Unfortunately my fiance and I went on a very unexpected busy night for them. They said it was the second busiest day since Thanksgiving and they were not expecting such a large crowd. It was our first experience and we waited at our table for 3 hours for our food. They were so apologetic that they gave us free drinks and cannoli. And in all honesty after we waited there for 3 hours they should have comped our dinners. We decided to take our food home to go to eat due to the fact that it was so late. But I have to admit it is the best Italian food I have ever eaten. I will not allow this strange occurrence stop me fro giving them another chance. It's a little piece of Italy sitting right smack in the middle of Metairie. Kudos to the chef.
My favorite Italian restaurant in the New Orleans area. The eggplant medallions were delicious and I don't really care for eggplant. The shrimp appetizer with olive oil and garlic was delish. Their red gravy was a tad bit sweet to me but delicious. Everyone else at the table absolutely loved their entrees (Trout Almondine, Veal Marsala, Veal Picatta and an Alfredo dish) all saying can it was the best they've ever had. The Tiramisu was excellent. Their bread pudding was OMG! You could really taste the cinnamon but it wasn't overwhelming. We had to wait for a bit for our entrees but so worth the wait. Oh, I forgot. The coffee was really good, too.
Ristorante Filippo is an absolute treasure and one of the BEST Italian spots in all of New Orleans, plus it’s simply located in Metairie, tucked back right off of Causeway! The atmosphere is intimate with perfectly dimmed lighting. The House Cabernet is to die for and it pairs divinely with the Lasagna (the BEST Lasagna you will ever taste! And that’s coming from a true Lasagna aficionado)! The filet was melt-in-your-mouth tender and so flavorful! The service was spot on and the whole experience will leave you counting down the days until your return.
Went for my husband's surprised 60th. They had us in a private room, and Champagne on the table at arrival. Such a great time! I normally get the eggplant parm, but decided on the chicken picatta. Wow, what a tasty and large portion dish! I brought home the leftovers, ans had them for breakfast for the last 2 days. (Love a savory breakfast 🤪) This is our go-to restaurant!
I’m going to start by saying this; I definitely recommend Ristorante Filippo! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Baby (in my NOLA accent) let me tell you, my family and I had an amazing dining experience. We were first greeted with a genuine smile and though our stop was impromptu we were seated within 5 minutes (maybe less). Our server was a handsome Italian looking guy who at first looked a little intimidating but he turned out to be very nice 😊. We had the privilege of speaking with the owners and meeting Mr. Filippo himself ,😍a handsome Italian fella who definitely knows his way around the kitchen ;the food was Molto delizioso!!❤️⭐️🌟 The atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable, I felt like was in my own scene of The Godfather, sitting around the table with my family surrounded by plenty of food and drinks and laughter. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
We visited Ristorante for the first time and were thoroughly impressed by the adorable interior. The service was exceptional, especially from our waitress Meghan. The food was delicious, especially the oysters as appetizers. However, the main course fell short of my expectations. While the ingredients were cooked well, the dish was drowned in a watery sauce that lacked substance and balance. A thicker, more controlled portion would have significantly improved the overall experience. I would definitely return to explore other dishes on the menu.
Our family wanted a place to dine after a long drive down to meet my daughter, and this fine Italian restaurant was within a block's walk of our hotel. The parking lot was tiny. parking for about 5 cars, 5 more cares behind the building, and about 10 across a quiet street. The building and signage is beautiful, especially in twilight with the neon in beautiful gold and red. It's apparent many people opt for reservations, but we simply walked up, and the wait was short, about 15 minutes. We were led upstairs, where two tables had been pulled together to accommodate our party of 7. There's a wine menu and their main menu recommends good wines to go with every dish. The dishes are varied but all are authentic Italian. For the price (around $30/plate) I found a bit much water and juice in my lasagna, but it's authentic and tasted so. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp linguini. It had a restaurant signature name but I don't recall it. Here's a photo. My sons opted for the spaghetti with meatballs. The meat appeared to be sausage and had some heat to it, enough that they commented on it. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their food. We didn't have to wait long for our food. Gratuity was baked into the ticket. The cost for 7 was a little less than $300, which was not unexpected for the fine dining and atmosphere.
The food is alway phenomenal. Eggplant to die for. My family and I eat there at least 4 to 6 times a month. You can't get a better italian meal locally. Each plate is definitely made with love. Just wish they delivered for lunch.
Our first time here. Delicious meal. Excellent service. We will definitely be back. Chicken marsala and veal parm were just perfect. Gil was our waiter and he was the best!
My Girlfriend Pat and I had dinner there last Valentines Day. We Enjoyed our experience there and plan to return this Tuesday for Valentine's day again. For us it was just right. The Atmosphere was Quaint and just Intimate enough.
What a place. If you blink, youll pass it up! Tucked away on the east bound side of W Napoleon Ave in Metairie, about two blocks from Causeway Blvd. Small menu, but thats a good thing! Meatballs and Spaghetti...ohhh my gawedd. The red sauce is house made, i believe. Nothin out of a jar here! Nothing is bad here! Service is fantastic. Easy to talk to. Will gladly have a conversation or let you be. Bartender...hes got jokes! So please come with a sense of humor! Place is dimmly lit. Perfect for a couple's night out. The bread....need i say more?? Pass a good time, y'all!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here! Great staff and ownership. Some of the best Italian food in the metro area!
I always sort of thought a grilled chicken salad was something to be quietly endured, rather than enjoyed. Yours was delicious. The chicken was good. It wasn't rubbery. That alone baffles all my preconceptions. I was with three other people and they all had great dishes as well. Wonderful, and a nice young waiter, Ben? I think? Lavish praise on all your youngish male waiters in case I got the wrong name. Thank you, and I'll be back.
Mary and Philip have fostered an old school familiar atmosphere where people enjoy making new friends through great meals. Cozy, small dining area encourages everyone to take in the sights and smells of every dish going by...making you envious of every dish you didn't order. They're seriously dedicated to their craft and it shows. Unparalleled Italian dining!
I loved it!!,😉 it's an Eclectic blend of Greek and Italian dishes and ironically some of the management has Hispanic /Central American background. I I think one of the appetizers that evening had more of a Central American flavor to it I thought prices were very reasonable and the staff was unbelievably friendly and attentive. There's a flaming cheese dish that is brought to your table-- still flaming!!- that I'd highly enjoyed Great for a date or family dining. It's in a sort of strip mall with safe, free parking but don't let it fool you.... inside is really nice! If I'm ever back in Virginia I would definitely pay them a visit!
My boyfriend and I just moved to Metairie and lived very close to the restaurant. We decided to check it out. We were very impressed with the food and the atmosphere. As we were sitting and eating, we noticed that people kept walking in and saying hello to the staff like old friends. After we introduced ourselves to who turned out to be the owner and felt very welcomed into the community. Definitely recommend the food and the whole experience!
Intimate surroundings, casual atmosphere, over the top quality in Italian food! I had the house-made lasagna. I consider myself a sort of lasagna connoisseur, trying it wherever I can. Most of the time, I leave the restaurant disappointed. Not this time. Hands down, this is the finest slice of lasagna I have ever eaten. The chef pays attention to the smallest details, with layer after layer of perfectly done lasagna noodles interspersed with incredible cheeses, meats, herbs, and, out of nowhere, the thinnest slice of eggplant. Yep, eggplant. If I didn't tell you, you would have never guessed. I talked two in my party into getting it. Both were entirely delighted. All of us took home substantial portions. So it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway), the portions are HUGE. The quality outstanding. The service is perfect, almost appearing out of thin air with a refreshed glass is whatever you were drinking. I have eaten here in small groups and with a party of 18. I am never disappointed.
Dinner for 8 on NYE was perfect! The menu had many selections to choose from. The food presentation was on point and everyone’s entree’s were delicious! Service was timely and efficient. Ristorante Filippo delivered far more than what we expected. Great Food and Dining Experience
Fun environment, very hospitable service with nice timing of each course. Enjoyed a nice bottle of chianti. Food was delicious...enjoyed the shrimp scampi appetizer and a cup of spinach and artichoke soup as well as shared a small Caesar salad. We enjoyed a beautiful trout almondine and the double cut pork chops for entrees and ended up taking much of it home after losing control on the bread and butter. Will leave room for dessert next time.
Just a great experience all around. Classic Italian food with a Louisiana flair. I had the veal. Top notch cocktails, especially the Old Fashioned.
Excellent food. Fantastic atmosphere. I had the chicken parm and was very happy. I don't agree with salads on appetizer plates, but seriously there are worse things you could complain about.
Celebrated my wife’s birthday at Ristorante Filippo as a group of 8. Reservations were easy to make and had the small private dining room with great service. The cocktails and appetizers were outstanding. Recommend the oysters, calamari, and scampi. Enjoyed the bone-in pork chop and my wife enjoyed the seafood pasta. Desserts: cannoli, bread pudding, and tiramisu were enjoyed by all. Intimate setting with great Sinatra music and attentive staff. Will be back for the lasagna. Thanks for a great evening.
In addition to being a true gem and one of New Orleans' BEST Italian restaurants, Ristorante Filippo is conveniently situated in Metairie, nestled away just off Causeway. With the lighting suitably muted, the ambiance is cozy. The House Cabernet is delicious and goes perfectly with the lasagna.
Great service and food. Our appetizer of crab claws in a buttery garlic wine sauce which I would definitely recommend, lasagna that my husband loved, veal picatta which was so good, and we tried the tiramisu and the best bread pudding. We had leftovers of everything because the portions were gigantic.
Very good, always! Need to change the specials. The lasagna is the best !!! Shrimp a la vodka is the best !! Unfortunately both dishes are not on the menu most of the time. It should be the nightly special rather than the trout almondine that I took once and I won't take again, it is just not Italian enough and really not special . There eggplant dish and appetizer are delicious. Their salad with crab meat is delicious. Need to make lasagna...... it is an expected dish in an Italian restaurant :) I will go many times again ... just make few little upgrades please.
Love this place. Owner is great. Love the oysters aragotto. Place is crowded on the weekend, but its a small restaurant. Love the veal dishes. Eat here regularly and plan on continuing to do so.
I always enjoy Filippo’s. Everything is delicious but I love the spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna and veal piccata on the everyday menu. I had the lobster ravioli special and crabmeat salad on my last visit. I highly recommend! 😊
A lovely little gem of a restaurant. White linen tables, superior service, and the food.... Mama mia....... Calamari app was perfect, and a veal/eggplant/pasta stack was unbelievable. First time there, I'll DEFINITELY be back.
I had my wife’s surprise birthday party at Ristorante Filippo. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic. The owner made the entire planning process very easy. Their attention to detail in food, beverages and service was exceptional. It was a very memorable night, and I am so happy I chose Ristorante Filippo.
Food is always great!!! Staff is accommodating. One of our favorite places to go.
I wanted to come and update my last review since I have now eaten inside the building and met the owners. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I just found it in November, we went to eat here it is small. It is the definition of a small business, very welcoming and you feel like part of the family. The atmosphere is beautiful, upscale dinning ( I always order to go looking like a hobo) so dress nice. The owners are wonderful and kind, we order here all the time now. At this point I have tried almost every item on the menu and I CANT FIND ONE BAD DISH. They are all amazing. We just came home from Europe after a month and I had to get dinner here tonight because it's the closest thing to true European Italian you are gonna find in this city. I came here to update my review because I'm still beyond impressed November 2023 I have never been inside the building so I can't review that. But the food! I live in the neighborhood and my husband and I drive by here all the time, we do weekly date night and this place has been on our list for a while. This week I was sick for date night so we ordered take out from here. The food was amazing, visually pleasing, and the flavor was excellent. We were so impressed. I cook alot at home and flavor is a must. They delivered. It was exactly what I wanted. He even left his phone there and the restaurant called us and returned it to us. So service and food +++
Went there with 2 other couples service was great. Our table initially was right as you walk in so we asked to be moved. They put us in the private room and was really nice. The dining room was really loud and stuffy. The food was fabulous and the service was great too! We would definitely go back, just not for a quiet dinner.
I ate there on my first trip to Nola…service was amazing…highly recommend!
We have dined here a few times. Went for our anniversary. Made reservations. Yes, we had to wait a little, yes it was busy. But, we expected that from prior experience and online reviews. Food was excellent as always. Although it was busy and crowded, we were not bumped and jostled about, and we did not have to yell to carry on a conversation. Bartender was accommodating, and our waiter Dan the man made excellent recommendations. We will return, no doubt.
Dining room was too loud to have a normal conversation at a 2 seat table. Food was passable, red sauce on the lasagna was off-puttingly sweet. The chicken marsala was bland. The watermelon and cucumber cocktail was great. Loved it. I really wanted to like this quaint little restaurant. Unfortunately, at $120 before tip for two people at dinner, it was overpriced for the meal and ambiance provided.
Loved everything about our experience. Our entrees were amazing. The gentleman with blonde hair was attentive, professional and very personable. He helped us with our wine and entree choices. We will definitely be back.
I had another great meal at Restaurant Filippo! I got the fish and my friends had veal, everyone commented on how great it was. Also, the oyster appetizer is the bomb. Atmosphere, service and food were fantastic. Also , visited with the owners who couldn’t be nicer. I will be back soon.
It was Valentine's day and so the place was packed. It was also rather chilly outside, so a lot of people chose to wait for their tables near the door. Still, the service was good and the staff were very pleasant, enthusiastic and helpful. We never felt rushed although there were a lot of people waiting. I had the VITELLO SORRENTINA (Sauteed veal layered with eggplant, prosciutto and mozzarella cheese served with pasta marinara). My lady had the frutti di mare (her first time) and she enjoyed it very much. Dessert was Angelo Brocato's spumone (which speaks for itself) and a wonderful tiramisu which was very light and tasty. A very good meal and experience on a busy night. Can't wait to return on a normal evening.
First people as doors open had drinks and ordered dinner was told they just ran out- how could that be as we were the first people. Service was only OK. Bill came and a additional fee was added to my Bill - WHY this is part of doing business why do I need to pay more for using my credit card. May NOT return because of this. Because of a fee 4 of us may not return
Amazing experience! The owner, Phil, came and talked to us for at least five minutes, and the waitress, Sue, was attentive, warm and funny. The food, from appetizer to dessert, was absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Probably my favorite Italian restaurant in the city now! Highly recommended.
Everything was wonderful. Quite possibly the best Chicken Marsala, Spaghetti and meatballs we've ever eaten. We also loved the cozy, quaint atmosphere. the owners and staff were amazing! Recommend to everyone! You won't be disappointed! Wayne and Lori, West Monroe
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. We came in late on a Friday night from a tournament. No judgement. The Italian salad with grilled shrimp was spectacular. We also had the veal and it was delicious. Wished we lived here to enjoy more often.I highly recommend this restaurant for any occassion.
Food was absolutely outstanding...I enjoyed every bite and the portions were perfect size. One of my favorite places to eat. Every time there has been a joy. I love this place!
Excelente comida, muy bueno el servicio , todo muy limpio
We had a lovely experience at Ristorante Filippo! We chose this restaurant for a private gathering after an engagement. Mary was wonderful in helping us set up the perfect evening. She did a wonderful job communicating the different options for a pre-set menu. We had many lovely options to choose from and had a private room upstairs. She was very attentive to detail, arranging roses for us on the table and printing out a special menu commemorating our evening. Her communication throughout the week was stellar in ensuring we had everything set up and ready to go. Our families loved it! The food, of course, was amazing and the portions were generous. Everyone left full and satisfied! We are so thankful for such a personalized and unforgettable experience.
From the minute we got in the restaurant to the minute we left, the staff was amazing specially the waiters Marcus and Jonathan. They made sure we had a great experience and checked on us many times. The place was cozy and the ambiance was like having dinner in family. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family members. Two thumbs up. 👍👍
Best Italia in NOLA area. Attentive staff and large delicious portions. Caesar salad and chicken parm were both excellent
Old school Italian at its finest. Filipino is a cozy little place with food to die for. Italian for Italians. Sue and Micah treat every customer like you have been coming here for years. Reservations are recommended but not required. The Marsala is exquisite, but don’t be afraid to try everything!
My dining experience at Ristorante Filippo was wonderful!! I felt like I was back in Europe while dining there. The service was top notch, and the food was delicious! Micah was my server and I was impressed with his attentiveness and professionalism. Overall 10 out of 10. A+ I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!
The whole mood was very nice and the waiter was very nice and polite too it was an amazing experience having dinner there 🥰.
Food, drinks, and our server were completely lovely. Tables were a little close together. The man sitting behind me kept bumping my chair, which made things a bit uncomfortable. The religious decor was a bit unnecessary and the kitchen took a bit too long to get our entrees out. However, the food was excellent and we'll definitely be back.
I came in town to see family, and they were raving about this place. And it did not disappoint. Everybody was incredibly friendly. The food was beyond exceptional. And the atmosphere felt cozy and homey. Such a fantastic experience.
This is a quaint italian restaurant located within walking distance of the Sheraton Galleria and the Courtyard Galleria. Due to the times, there was a lengthy wait which was offset by the quality of the food. They have a wide variety of wine but very limited supply/variety of beer. It could be five stars but it was a bit slow and for an Italian restaurant not to have Italian beer made my decision a four star
The restaurant is a very nice restaurant to have a meal at. The place is a little small and cramp. The parking isn't the biggest and will require finding parking somewhere else. The server was nice and came back often with water. The food is really good and the quality of the ingredients is there. The options they have is a a good size to focus of quality over quantity. Worst thing is the wait for the receipt to be made since they are old school and do it by typewriter but it's a quirky trait for them. Give a 8/10.
Hey guys this is a great spot to bring the wife or girlfriend for a nice dinner out. It's a small restaurant but very comfortable. Food is top notch. Only gave 4 stars because there better places , but this one is really good. Good food good drinks and wine. Go and enjoy.
Been multiple times over many years and never had a bad experience. If he ever has the eggplant topped with lobster, do yourself a favor and order it. I dream about this dish on a regular basis.
Excellent service. The food was wonderful. Everything was made to order, with the exception of the red sauce which is made in bulk, according to our waiter. The restaurant is small, but very cozy. We had the eggplant medallions, veal marsala, and veal alfredo - they were all great. My husband, who normally doesn't like a red sauce, loved theirs. That says a lot! Will definitely be back!
A classic Italian restaurant tucked inside of an old house in a residential neighborhood oh, it has a very neat down home kind of feel to it. The food is good quality and the prices are upscale as is the service. Unfortunately I think this place suffers from the same condition most Italian restaurants that claim to be upscale in the region have, their food is not bad but it's really not distinctive either. The ingredients don't seem as fresh as really good Italian food should be imo. For the prices they charge, is disappointing that they also try to upsell you on extra things to top your entree with. All Things Considered, this place is consistently among the better Italian places in the area.
Quaint private setting restaurant, excellent candidate for a quiet, dimly-lit date night. Dress nice. Limited seating... I recommend reserving a table in advance.
We usually have a good experience -.the food was tasty. I ordered the filet which had a good flavor but it was not melt in my mouth tender so was a bit disappointing. When the bill came and it was 68.95 for my 8 oz filet, I was extremely disappointed. Then there was an extra 8.45 charge for fee not sure what that was for. Service was good in the beginning but then they got busy and it was a little slow. The receipt was a mess, had scratch outs on it. Clearly they need more staff, really nice people good food, just need some tweaks. I know the steak said market price but at that price it should have been said by waiter.
Great people work there as they were gracious about seating me soon and accommodating my wheelchair. Insulate was good. Veal was tender but sauce was too sweet for my taste.
Great atmosphere.. bar was well tended. Food was good, but I half expected something a little more Italian. Bread pudding was good for dessert.
The interior and exterior of this small, stand-alone property reflect its 18-year-old age. The owner & assistant were friendly and quick. I ordered the Pasta & Meatballs, which was served with fresh-baked bread & butter. The portions were large and good. I would recommend it and return. RJT
I am sure that at one time this restaurant was better, but it seems like quality has gone down over time. Was not impressed with ambiance and overall food. Some was real good, but most was just OK. Disappointed in this experience.
From the last time we were here the quality service has gone down missed on orders and pushed us out the door. Food is now just ok
Horrible noisy place. Food was ok. The place is too small for that many tables. Employees kept turning the A/C unit on and off so the dining room kept getting hot and cold. It's a nice little place but way too noisy!
Food was delicious! Service was ok. The scenery is a little outdated and could use some freshening up. We had a reservation for 8:45 and didn't get seated til after 9 even when there were tables available. It was Valentine's day so maybe they were just under pressure. I would give it another go on a normal night. I also ordered a Bloody Mary and it was of the worst I ever had.
Food was delicious but service was horrendous!! I talked to a woman named Mary who said she was the owner. She said they were short staffed to start and had 2 people call in sick, blah blah, I told her I accept that for explaining slow service but the brutality of the service showed rudeness. After 20 minutes the appetizer came out with the salads, entrées came while still eating salad, it was a small 2 top table and he stood over us with plates in hand so we each picked up the salad plate to hand to him since there was no room on the table, but he drops the dinners and runs off. Me holding my plate in mid air LOL, my husband took my plate and his and put it on the little table where they keep the leather menu's. Waiter never once came back, didnt ask if we wanted dessert but brought the bill. While still eating the bus boy interupted us to ask if we wanted go boxes. We used to go often but banned this place over 10 years ago because of consistent bad service just like this. It was a running joke. But a friend goes regularly and convinced us to go. Reviews were great so I was excited to go back. Thank GOD the food was great! The owner did agree to comp my entire meal! Of course I did not accept the gesture but impressed she took ownership. Unfortunately I cannot in my right mind go back. So sad.
Seated by bar and hostess stand. We had people on our backs most of the night while bumping into our chairs. The noise level was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Unfortunately we had to wait outside until precisely 5:30 or told we could leave ,(rude). Yet, we could have people waiting for tables literally at our back and side. That is no place for a table... The food and waitress,Sue, were very good.
Food was good , but the service was bad. The gentleman could not handle all the upstairs tables. Between the bread , the drinks and the food , it all show up at different times. Kept asking the waiter for everything. Next time I'll try the bottom floor and see if we get better service.
I was staying at a hotel down the street and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the chicken Parmesan (which is my favorite Italian dish that I order everywhere) and it tasted like it could have been good.... aside from the red sauce. It had a really strange sweet taste to it. It definitely wasn't your traditional Italian red sauce and unfortunately, it threw off the whole dish for me. The marinara dipping sauce that came with the calamari had the same sweet taste. I wasn't a huge fan.
I’ve eaten here twice, once for pasta, once for steak, and the food is very good. The quality is worthy of four stars relative to the price, but at $52 for a ribeye, the quality doesn’t rate 5 stars. Also, my wife ordered a filet, but they brought her a ribeye. I rated it down one more because we took our three kids and I asked them to split an adult meal (spaghetti and meatballs) between two of them (ages 5 and 7). My eldest, 9, ordered an adult meal for himself, shrimp pasta and soup. They said they wouldn’t split the spaghetti, but could bring an extra plate. They forgot the extra plate. We reminded them about it. They never brought it. We used the bread plate. Then when reviewing the bill I saw the charged $7 for the extra plate we never got. I didn’t ask them to fix it as it was a $250 bill and I usually leave 20%, so I just subtracted the extra plate charge from the tip. Anyway, won’t return a third time.
EXPENSIVE cocktails ($16-$20 for the simple ones!) and food. Prices on the website a few dollars less than reality. Market price items are off the chart $. Food pretty good and main courses very large so enough to share.
Food is amazing, but get it to go. We had the Pasta with Meatballs and the Veal Francesco. Both dishes were really good, especially the meatballs. The issue we had was with the service. The restaurant is two stories and it appears the servers are given tables both upstairs and downstairs. This seems to stress out the servers based off what we saw. We watched two servers get into an argument in the middle of the upstairs dining room over where a plate of food went. Our order was then brought upstairs by someone who appeared to be working expo and was delivered to the wrong table. The people sitting at that table started eating the food from one of the dishes before realizing it was not what they ordered. The staff then brought the pasta with meatballs but we had to wait on the veal francesco to get made again. As dinner continued we continued to watch the staff struggle and I am pretty sure one of the servers was high based off his behavior. Like I said, the food was amazing, but I would get it to go.
Portions way too large, makes you lose your appetite. Quality of the veal was ordinary if not Poor. Fine dining price but only ordinary quality. My wife’s fish was not good either.
Long wait before someone acknowledged our table, totally blend fried calamari, and fruit flies in the sazerac cocktails. I was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt but I can’t, Service was great though.
Very disappointed, ordered the special filet mignion medium rare; most tasteless $65 piece of meat I have ever come accross! The veal picanta was over done and over floured, the sauce was over powered with capers, nothing subtle or flavourful. It was busy, so we forgive our server for not bringing a steak knife until asked, not offering parmeagan for the pasta until asked, etc.... In short very meidiocre food, frightfully overpriced. In addition what is very underhand at restaurants like these is that their suggested tip is not calculated from the food and drinks ordered. but on the entire bill including the government's cut and their 'special charge' of $4 for their kitchen staff. So if you pay their suggested tip, you are tipping on a tip as well as tipping on taxes. I abhor this sleight of hand and avoid restaurants like these because I feel that if they feel fit to cheat on this, what else are they cheating on? In this case the quality of their produce as evident in the taste of their food.
The experience at this establishment was conflicting. The staff were very friendly and we were seated at the bar due to a long wait list. The bartender who served us was rather friendly and chatty. The baked oyster appetizer we ordered was unique but not something I would regularly order; it was considerably small for the price but overall a positive experience. The major shortcomings came with the fettuccine Alfredo we ordered. We were waiting for what felt way too long for it to arrive and it was disappointing at best. The sauce was bland and of a quality that could be described as poorer than store bought. The frustrating finisher to the evening was when we got the bill and discovered they had charged us essentially the price of a whole entree to add shrimp to the pasta. It disappoints me to say this did put a damper on our evening.
I called to ask a few questions and Mike answered all my questions to his best however then he just hung up on me after I thanked him. When we arrived, we had to wait for our table to be set, once it was set, Mike didn't bother to tell us or seat us but he kept walking by us so we just stood there confused until the owner came to seat us at a different table. For a fine dining restaurant, there needs to be a serious upgrade to the restrooms. It was awful trying to use the restroom in a stall smaller than a portable toilet. You have to go behind the toilet to open the door to exit. Our server, Sue was good but she's quite loud. Her jewelry was political and set the wrong example. I don't think any management/owner should allow that to be worn in their establishment. It can make people uncomfortable despite their political stance. Our appetizer was very bland and the marinara was just as bad. The bowl wasn't wiped to give presentation. Our main entrees were good but not good enough to return. Needless to say, I won't be returning nor recommending. Grazie.
I would not be able to rate the food as the OWNER was so RUDE we left before we were seated. I made reservations for 7 this weekend. I had two people back out at last minute so our party of 7 became a party of 5. I explained that to the lady that greeted us at the door. As soon as I told her our number of guests changed, her attitude changed. She told me that I should have called and let them know, that every seat counts. While I understand that, I was not informed of our other 2 guests joining us until very late in the evening. Also, when you enter the restaurant, there is no waiting area. You walk in and you are practically on top of other guests seated at their tables. My husband had his back to the door when we entered. Another lady came in behind us but walked to a table. The door was left open. The OWNER proceeds to tell my husband to shut the door it is hot outside. Again, she was not very nice about it. Since there is very little room to move around, he shut the door, but with his back facing the door. The door did shut loudly, but the OWNER, yelled at him and told him that he did not have to slam the door. It was not his intention to slam the door. At this point my husband was ready to go. I had asked to wait and give it another try, which we did. My husband told our daughter in her ear that he will never come back to this restaurant again. He did not yell it for the entire restaurant to hear, but the OWNER did. She then proceeded to yell at him again. She yelled, what did you just mumble! He told her he was not talking to her, he was talking to his daughter. At that point, I had enough of the OWNERS rudeness. I told my family that we should leave, which we did. I told the OWNER I thought it was best we go. She continued to follow us as we were leaving. The best advice I would give the OWNER is to hire someone to run the front of the house. She does not have the right personality to deal with customers. I have never been treated like this at any restaurant EVER! Especially by the OWNER!
I will definitely NEVER dine here nor recommend anyone ever eating here. We chose to dine here to support local family owned business. Had reservations for 9 and arrived a couple of minutes early. We were told they were waiting on people to get up. That’s fine. The lady who I would assume is the owner/owners wife had an attitude when asking us to move somewhere while waiting (there is not a single empty chair or place for waiting people to actually wait at, you’re shoved against the door.) kept insisting we sat at the bar....there was ONE chair. I get it, restaurants are busy, it’s not their fault no one is getting up. But to be spoken to and practically scolded by this lady. HA! There are so many other places to eat in this city.
The pasta wasn't cooked al dente, it was over cooked. Also, the tomato sauce was way too sweet, I would assume that the sauce has been Americanized. Usually tomato sauce is salty and savory, but not here. The sugary tomato sauce didn't go well with the meat, it was a bizarre taste. I did not enjoy my meal.
Such a gross experience. We had a 7:15 res. and got sat at 8:15. I understand it was NYE so I looked past it. After that we got sat and our server quickly took our food order without even asking about drinks.. We got both soup and entrees within 10 mins of each other which was suspicious (typically only see that quality of food at a mcdonald’s or a diner) and it was all disgusting.. Oh and by the time the desserts came the drinks had just arrived to the table. We also watched as the server dropped another customers plate a bread and proceeded to pick it up with his bare hands and serve it to him all right in-front of them! I couldn’t stop laughing because i just couldn’t believe I was spending $200 for 2 people and saw that.
We had a birthday dinner here, and the birthday girl specifically chose this place because she's had a good experience previously. There were 6 of us this 2nd time around, and we don't think we'll ever come back to this place. Our server was apparently a manager named Laurie, and her service left a lot to be desired. She was nonchalant about the whole experience, delayed in taking our orders and checking up on the table, and had an unpleasant attitude. There was almost a 2 hour wait for our food and almost no communication about the delay. Several times, we had to get up to get one of the runners to assist us. And on top of poor service, there were extra fees we weren't told about until the last minute, like a 3.75% charge to use a card. Everyone enjoyed their food for the most part, once we were finally able to locate some salt and pepper, but it was overpriced. For what we paid, we wish we had better service and an overall better experience.
Very Disappointing Before the pandemic, we came to this restaurant every time we came to town. Last night we were delighted to go again to this old favorite. The place hadn't changed in appearance, but the service and food were a big letdown. We ordered a large Oyster Oreganate appetizer and the dish was warm on the surface and refrigerator cold in the middle. Our entrees were veal picatta and that night's special Trout Almandine. I like capers but the veal picatta was completely overwhelmed with them. It was all you could taste. I ended up separating capers off to the side and the result was an entire 2 oz bottle's worth on the plate. We expected the trout, a delicate fish, to be sauteed. Instead, it was deep fried and overcooked. Our waiter was slow and indifferent. When I told him about the problems with the dishes, he just walked away without a word . At the end, he cleared the dishes and left us with water glasses, waiting while he settled the neighboring tables split bill and doggy bag. (The waiters only other table). 15 minutes later we finally got our credit card to sign. The restaurant was overly air conditioned cold and when sitting at the padded bench for the table you sink into the seat until your knees are just hanging on a rail. I had to switch to a hard chair. We will no longer return to this restaurant. Hopefully, they will return to their previous standards.
I wish that I had never walked into this place. Being a chef myself, I love supporting family owned establishments. I read the reviews and I thought that I would love this place, but nothing could be further from the truth. The place is falling apart for starters, and my guest shared her concerns, but the owner's wife was welcoming, so I said, "Lets' give this place a chance," so we stayed. Nothing went right from this point forward: Items listed on the menu were not available, the wait staff were inattentive (I had to clear my own table twice), odd ingredient choices by the chef/owner, who, by the way, was seldom in the kitchen, but was constantly working the room. All of their tomato sauce is sweet - not just a little, but like candy. Their response was that this is the Sicilian way of preparing tomato sauce. It was too sweet and detracted from the food's flavor. I do not know a single Italian that would agree with their recipe. The waitress took her time to check on us and by the time she did, we had eaten some of the dish, because we were tired and hungry and just wanted to get out of there. I discussed my concern of the sauce with the waitress and she got the owner's wife, who had greeted us earlier. I will spare you the detail, but it got really ugly fast. They kept insisting that we stay and that they would give us desserts. I said that I didn't want a dessert, that I just wanted to leave. We felt like prisoners. Finally, they brought me the bill after much back-and-forth. I paid my bill and left with my guest. The chef/owner followed me out of the restaurant while yelling at me and telling me that I was a horrible person. Although I felt charitable to this family, they were very rude and in my opinion, have no business running a restaurant. All they want is your money. The food was as poor as the service and I truly have never been treated so poorly in my 50 years of restaurant dining. Gordon Ramsey... Please take notice of this place. They need your help.
My husband and I had reservations, they sat us in a cramped corner table. It was freezing inside the dining room. There was a comfortable empty next to us that remained open the entire night???(why weren't we seated there?!) We were never told about the specials of the night, which we would have ordered had we known. The house cab. is like water. The red sauce was flavorless and watery. I'm sorry we wasted a night out together to have such a terrible experience. Save your money, I promise you can cook a better meal at home.
The waitress insisted on a 35. Tip for 2 people in addition to a 5. Surcharge for the use of Credit card. We order a spite and she just insisted that we order a drink that she will make.
