Opinions de Preservation Coffee & Tea Modesto
My boyfriend heard about this place so we stopped by after after having lunch in Modesto. Asked the barista what they were known for and he happily gave us all the information on their most popular coffee drinks. Was not disappointed. They were creamy, full of flavor and just enough sweetness. Will go back again!
This is a real gem in downtown Modesto. It's a true coffee shop where the espresso shots are pulled by hand. The quirky staff is always friendly, and as a testament to how great this place it's, you'll frequently see off-duty staff hanging out here. It gives you a real sense of community that is lacking in the Wal-Mart, chain restaurant world we live in. That aside, the coffee is excellent. Try the clubhouse mocha!
Great. I'm not used to finding good coffee in Modesto. I wish I had known about this place when I lived here. Had the Big Truck Espresso and it was really good. Nice balance of sweetness and acidity. Wasn't sure which coffee it was for the drip coffee, but it was pretty good. Maybe not as good as Chromatic Coffee in Santa Clara but handily beats any of the chain coffee houses.
Rivals one other place for best coffee I have ever had. Most of the time I get a latte and it has the creamiest silkiest texture and minimal bitterness. If you usually get espresso with sweetener then I urge you to try this without because its not necessary for this coffee.
Great coffee here. They also have tasty pastries. Service is awesome! Staff are very friendly! Nice little coffee place !
been coming here for a couple years and loved the place so much, we are so sad to see it go 🙁
The clubhouse was amazing, the place is really small and can get crowded. But the coffee is great. Would recommend to any coffee enthusiast. 10/10. Also customer service is very kind and welcoming.
Best coffee spot in Modesto hands down. Great mild to medium roast, solid chai and loose leaf teas. Great atmosphere; no bible readers holding hands in prayer while giving certain customers ugly looks (shout out Village Bakery!). First class service; love this place!!
Greet vibe, seems like they make some great coffe drinks. I want to go back and try them. Do not order their drip coffee. I ordered a cup to go and had to dump it out. I would rather have gas station coffee. It was the worst I've ever had.
Great local coffee shop with good vibes. You can tell the locals like it and it's a nice place for some to just relax. The coffee was great and we even got a free snack from one if the vendors that sells her baked goods in there. Overall it was a great experience and I'd recommend it to anyone.
The best coffee experience in town. The coffee is excellent and the staff is pleasant and helpful. Don't expect an expansive food menu, local made pastries are always available, luckily they won't disappoint. Location is nice and a parking garage is nearby. In and out in less than 15 minutes and the parking is free. Definitely possible if the line is short. Space can often be limited on the first floor, as it usually fills up quickly. A loft-like "second" floor with additional seating is also available. Artsy types and trendy youngsters will definitely be afoot. Definitely a plus - it keeps the atmosphere fun and fresh. Don't be afraid of dropping in with a well behaved dog or child, everyone is welcomed here. 😉 TLDR; personality, quality coffee, tasty snacks, and friendly staff - all with a unique and wonderful flavor.
Best coffee I’ve ever had. It’s small but the workers make excellent coffee. If I could go every day for coffee I would :)
The Coffee is always on point. The Staff serves with the gift of kindness and makes you genuinely feel welcomed. Thank You!
A perfect coffee shop to relax and enjoy a warm cup.
A great way to stop regretting the loss of Preservation Coffee, which used to be in this space. The vibe is now warm minimalist rather than indie hipster, though it’s only the soft open so we’ll see. Hands-down winner for bakery program: get a cupcake. These are perfect cupcakes. Get a honeycomb latte: it’s beautifully balanced, gently sweet, with amazing foam. Staff is friendly. If the door gives you trouble, lift up slightly as you push. It’s well worth fighting the door for this coffee!
This cozy coffee spot gives me HUGE Los Angeles city vibes. Very chill, has some good ol' VCR tapes and a tiny cute TV playing movies. I got the original Mocha Coffee with Oatmilk instead of regular milk. I also ordered one ham and cheese croissant. Which was pleasantly filling. The coffee didn't taste very strong and actually was very tasty. Not too sweet and not bitter at all. Would definitely visit again if Im in the area. The lady serving me coffee (I forgot to ask for her name) was very attentive and quick with my order. Overall it's great.
Came and got a coffee ☕ because apparently downtown Modesto doesn't really have much going on at 9am on a Sunday morning 😕 but if it didn't, we wouldn't have found this cool little spot. Has a nice upper deck to hang out and do whatever on (including sleep) I assume the owner or manager are Star Wars fans. Live long and prosper 🖖
I haven't had a true latte before, so I decided to have this place be my first latte experience. Did not disappoint surprisingly smooth and creamy foam. The server made a beautiful design. They had 2 outdoor tables, which were nice until 2 pm until you had full sun.
This was suggested by a friend for a meeting place. The time was 11am in a Sunday. The inside is a bit small and conversations if hushed may not be heard at times, other customers may talk loudly, which may make it difficult to speak to your companions. There are (4) tables that seat abouta total of 14 persons. You have to walk through the front counter and prep area to use the bathroom; which was spotless. The product was awesome. She had a Zephyr, I had the Coronado. Both were deliciousness in a cup. The service was good and the wait was brief; we will definitely be visiting again.
Went here for the first time with a couple of friends today and it was really nice. Staff was friendly and easy to talk to and all of our drinks were quickly made and delicious. The vibe of the shop was cute, with a little box tv and a wall of VHS tapes. Their was both seating up and down stairs as well as outside and yet they were almost all full (tells you how popular the place must be). Highly recommend if you wanna good quality cup of coffee to start your day.
Sooooo good!! We had the Havana and Cafe Brule - delicious! Wonderful, friendly service and the drinks were ready in no time - enjoyed them in the small, upstairs seating area. Downstairs and outside seating are available as well.
A local business I love and support. I recommend the Serrano Mocha. A little bit of spice with that coffee and chocolate. They have seating above the bar up the stairs. Very nice place to relax and see local friends. The realtor that placed a Starbucks just down the street should be ashamed. Support local business.
Absolutely fantastic latte! Baristas were very helpful and knew what they're doing. House-made lavender syrup and beautiful latte art with the perfect amount and texture of foam, and the music and atmosphere def passed the vibe check ... Thank you for an incredible experience!
Very good! I have had the carpenter and the contractor from here and they were both delicious. Both had strong notes of chocolate but the coffee still powered through. Will be back to try the rest of their menu or to have another carpenter/contractor.

Excellent Expresso! It's a little eclectic, but it's the best coffee bar in Modesto. They have expresso, tea, hot chocolate, iced mochas, and pasteries as well.

I got a double shot macchiato and my wife had gotten the espresso. The first sip and you get all the coffee flavor and it is strong. Not a huge coffee drinker but this will definitely wake you up. Taste good too
Best coffee in town! Friendly staff as well - you can tell they enjoy the craft. Small space, but has a lofted seating area as well. Great stop for the art nights (every 3rd Thursday).
I love chocolate fish! Super excited it's open in modesto!! The flat white was phenomenal and the girls behind the bar are really thoughtful!
I really enjoyed their mocha latte, and the atmosphere was beautiful. They have nice artwork adorning the walls, and there is a homey feel to the place. Very enjoyable.
This is my go-to place for coffee. All the food and drinks taste amazing and the baristas are friendly and talkative (unless you are just on your phone bc then they won't disturb you). I really like the matcha and lattes. The atmosphere is neat. I've heard people say that it's not the cleanest, but I think it's part of the grungy vibe. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cool little hole in the wall feeling coffee shop
High quality coffee at a reasonable price. Street parking is easy and the service is fantastic. Love that the coffee shop features different local artists by displaying their work.

Yummy coffee, warm customer service. They sell the artwork from local artists on their wall which is nice. And they offer to go cups or classic coffee cups with a little saucer. It's got a nice local feel, and super rich chocolate brownies!
My favorite local place for quality coffee and tea. As often as I've gone, I haven't had a bad or over-roasted cup. I love the modest but very tasteful selection of loose-leaf teas and it's one of the very few places I know that I've never had over-steep hot tea. Somewhat bohemian, cozy and modest. Very, very friendly staff.
Coffee is great here! Some of the best I've had. The only reason for 4 stars is that the girl making the coffee didn't really talk or seemed unwilling to answer my question when I asked about their different types of coffee. The guy was great and professional. I'm not too big on coffee knowledge but I love to drink it, I would have liked to have them explain to me the different types they have.
Preservation has my favorite plain latte. Just a heads up, each shot is a double shot, so that may change the flavor of your coffee is your aren't prepared for it. I'm not going to lie though, preservation is pretty crammed as far as space, and it doesn't fit the cliche mold for coffee shop you'd camp out at for hours. There are almost no outlets, but there's always some eclectic artwork to look at.
4.5 + stars . It’s Family time out for coffee after lunch. We had 2 Big kid hot chocolate, w/ cinnamon, a vanilla latte ( almond milk ) for one and I had the mocha. Mine was smooth and good taste.. the kids enjoyed their coco’s. Downtown Modesto on a frigid afternoon today. A quaint tidy place to hangout for a short time. As always, post wherever your heart desire.
Great coffee, but didn’t see any food.

This is a new chocolate fish location in the Central Valley! I'm familiar with the locations in Sacramento and a fan of their coffee beans. So stoked to finally have one closer to home. Overall, I'm still pretty satisfied with the coffee! I had a lavender latte and ordered earl grey scones and homemade pop tart. All items were good! I'll def be back for the coffee though! I hope they have a good stock of coffee beans too, as that is what they are famous for. This is the location for former Preservation coffee so don't know why there are reviews for them on this Chocolate fish google location....
I asked them to please keep my drink behind the counter and they agreed to accommodate but they instead put it out on the main counter. I thought that by going to a local coffee shop they would be able to do this for me.
This coffee did not hit the spot I was recommended to go here because they had the best coffee and I've honestly had better. I got a vanilla iced latte and first off it didn't taste like vanilla and the coffee tasted burned. I also bought a pastry and it tasted like it was old like it's been sitting there a few days. Also I believe that place could have been much more cleaner and more decorative for being there a while and I was a bit disappointed. They also have a small menu. GoodLuck!
Espresso was decent, nothing over the top. Cup was not preheated. Apple crumb lacked flavor and sweetness. Would have been better heated up but apparently they have no oven or microwave?? I didn't even finish it, if I am going to eat sweets, they should taste amazing and melt in my mouth. Was hoping for better since this was a small hole in the wall shop.

This place used to be the best preservation coffee was high quality back in the day. Last few times I have been here I felt my naspresso makes better coffee such a bummer.
I am absolutely disgusted with these folks after my visit today. I watched them spill a customers order while they were preparing it, they decided to put it in a new cup and the customer thanked them and let them and said I appreciate you putting it in a new cup. While the customer was leaving the employee said I would appreciate a tip. The customer overheard them, was taken aback and left looking insulted and defeated. I regret recomending Preservation Coffee & Tea to my group of friends last week and will be calling them to let them know that I will no longer be a customer and that they shouldn't either. Tips are reserved for people who take pride in their job, have respect, and who go above and beyond. They arent for entitled employees who nearly spill coffee on customers and then proceed to talk behind their backs. To the gentleman who was disrespected today, keep your head up and dont let this get you down.
Not coming back a tall white guy taking orders with orange hair. Has really bad customer service when ordering he slammed 3 coffee cups on the counter not sure why. When he gave me my change he tossed my coins on my hand dropping them all. Never coming back customer service is a first person one interacts with and for being a person taking orders he definitely needs a lot of training specially coming from a person who is a business owner. Bread is good! Coffee is okay nothing special and environment definitely nice tho.

I typically don't leave bad reviews, but I just had a bad experience here. I ordered a small iced Matcha and an avocado toast with egg. The matcha still had unmixed powder sitting at the bottom and it was unsweetened. There was nothing on the menu about needing to add a sweetener to the matcha. I kindly let the barista know I didn't like my drink, and if I could get a new drink, like the honeycomb latte that my friends had (that tasted good). They said they don't exchange drinks. She asked why I didn't like it and I said because it wasn't sweet. She just asked if I asked for sweetener and I let her know that I didn't. I didn't know I needed to, as it didn't indicate this on the menu nor were there any extras listed. She charged me the 80 something cents to add syrup. I was just astounded my drink couldn't be remade or I couldn't just get another drink. Also the egg on the avocado toast was just a sliced hard boiled egg on top. Overall, the food and drink sucked and the baristas just made me feel like I was the problem for the terrible matcha. Go to Penny's for better Matcha.
