This is our favorite taqueria in all of modesto. Food is great, great size portions (can never finish it all), and the salsa bar is delicious. The avocado salsa is my favorite…
Staff is always friendly and amazing. One of my go-to spots for mexican food. It always taste amazing and never disappoints. If I call it in they have it ready for me. I have been coming here for years and have never been let down. The salsa bar has some great salsas always fresh and the limes are never dry.
Great food, they have a few beers on tap now which is dope. I had a Miché which was really good. Oh, and their salsas are 🤌🏽. They even got the 32oz Corona's if you want to foo it up🤷🏽!
Went yesterday to eat dinner with my husband, and as always the food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. I want to shout out a big Thank YOU for still having outdoor dining. I am immunecompromised, making outdoor dining the best option for me, as well as others with similar conditions. I love the atmosphere created for the outside dining. The lights, the colorful Mexican banner, and the pull down blinds for shade and to dampen the wind. Plus the music really set the mood. Wonderful experience! I hope you continue providing outdoor dining. Thank YOU some much! Will be back again. ❤️
Excellent food, huge portions, great salsa options and real guacamole too. A bit noisy and crowded but was worth it. Overall, highly recommend. Food we had: Torta- asada Super wet burrito- asada Super quesadilla- asada Kids bean and cheese burrito
This was our first time there as we were passing through. I had a delicious pork burrito, and my husband had Taco Truck Tacos. The chips and salsa were very tasty. We would definitely return.
One of the best if not the best Taqueria‘s around from the atmosphere to the food always a great experience when we come here and we actually come here a lot. The Location itself is in one of the most awesome neighborhoods in Modesto. If you’re local I don’t have to tell you this you already know.
Ordered burrito thru DoorDash. I usually order from establishments I run across while out exploring. However I took a chance on this place while at home and was glad I did. The only question I have is “why is the regular and super burrito the same price?”.
Always excellent food, staff and location! In all my years living within College Manor, this Taqueria has remained special and consistent throughout. In all honesty, they've changed little if much in 0ver 25 years and that truly doesn't involve the food what so ever. Additionally, they've remained rather affordable and portion size a fantastic, delicious deal!
We ordered through their little ordering tablet thing, super easy to use, but since everything was so cheap we ordered a bit more because we assumed it would be small portions- NO NOT THINK THIS! When the kind server brought everything to the table I laughed so hard! The plates filled up the entire table and we had no clue where to start. I ate my ceviche on tostada and like 1/4 of my asada fries and I had to tap out. The servings were HUGE and super tasty. I genuinely enjoyed this place and will absolutely be back! The service was spectacular, they were so very kind there, and the atmosphere was just as good with enjoyable decor and the sound of people having fun and enjoying their time. Highlt recommend!
I travel all over the United States for work and like to try mostly independent non-chain restaurants. I ended up ordering the Fajita and I have to say, this place is EXCELLENT. This is some of the best AUTHENTIC Mexican food I've ever had.
Got a quesadilla, and nachos. Both were big portions, and super tasty! Also…. The salsa bar is spot on!! They do sell bottled and canned beer!
I have been dining here since 2001 when it first opened. It was a big deal getting a Mexican restaurant in Roseburg Square back then. They make the food quick and always delicious. I also like the newer (last 2 years) remodel of the dining facility.
This is such a nice spot with great food. My go to order is a basic super burrito, but I've had a couple of the other menu items before. Their is plenty of seating and is typically very open. The staff are always nice, and the food itself is very affordable. Great place to go after shopping at the grocery store in the square!
We’ve enjoyed coming to this welcoming neighborhood spot for over a decade. The owner passed within the last few years, but it remained in the family and they’ve continued serving delicious high quality food. In fact, every week our kids tell us “hey… it’s taqueria Tuesday”. Never had anything we didn’t like, but our favorites are beef fajitas, the carnitas or pastor super nachos, and the asada super fajita burrito. I also love their tortilla soup whenever I’m sick. We’ve wanted to try the birria stuffed quesadilla, but it’s hard not to get your favorites. So come back frequently and try it all! They have a pretty tasty breakfast menu, too. They’ve had a lot of new staff over the last few years, and we know the service industry is often full of contention. Mistakes happen, and so I recommend checking your to go orders before leaving.
Not possible to get 5 stars for Menudo, if the pig foot is missing. BAM!!! Got it!!! That bone marrow and gelatinous goodness is what makes it taste so dang good (IMO). Taqueria El Compadre spin on this dish is outstanding! Especially on a 40 degree chilly morning. The Menudo packs some light heat...then backs off. All the right ingredients are there. NOT FLAVORED WATER!!! Enough of the good stuff is inside the bowl...by that, I mean alcohol soaking-up-stomach, cooked to tender perfection. Note: You need to visit the salsa bar for the standard condiments. : ) Another win for Modesto!
I had the Protein bowl. Everything was delicious. I had chicken with fajita veggies. It was well seasoned, peppers, grilled onions. Great selection, big menu. On the Vegan burrito, there is cheese and sour cream just to warn you. Salsa Bar available. Fast service. Great staff..very clean restaurant.
Took my wife out on a date here last week. We’ve had tacos and burritos all around town, including the trucks. The food was amazing, the chef and staff were great, too!
Awesome food, atmosphere, and service! I ordered a wet carne asada burrito and it didn’t disappoint. It was delicious! For my beverages I had a mandarin Jarritos and a Sidral Mundet Apple Soda. The chips and salsa were amazing as well.
This is like a slice of heaven for me. The flavors are incredibly delicious. The atmosphere and decor are brilliant and beautiful. I opted for a low-carb lunch and politely declined the complimentary chips and tortillas. I can't recommend this place enough. It's just that good!
Visiting from Wa State. Local UPS man suggested this place to us. Said his friend owns it. So glad we took his recommendations. Delicious!! Hands down best Mexican food I've had in a long time. My husband and I shared the beef/chicken/shrimp Molcajete & chicken torta. Salsa bar is great. Authentic cuisine. Best dish I've ever ate. The sauce was soooo tasty. Big portion!!
Local UPS driver recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Beef chicken and shrimp molcajetes was the best I have had. Glad I live in a different state or I would be a weekly customer.
A very beautiful restaurant, staff is very friendly.. overall is clean as well. The food is so delicious. I recommend it.
Our whole family loves this place! It’s our go too when we are in town, our bellies are rumbling, and home is just a few min to far to wait lol. I’ve been eating here since I was a freshmen in college. Heading there after swim practice, or a night class at MJC. Now I bring my family there, it’s our favorite Mexican food restaurant. I love their bean burritos, quesadillas, burritos, taco salads, burrito bowls, and their breakfast menu. They have a great beer selection with cold mugs to pour your beer into. They have the best salsa bar around! I love their green avocado salsa, it’s my little ones favorite as well. The place is clean, and their location is perfect! I love I can park at rose-burg square, walk the trail, let the little one burn off energy at the park then walk back. We usually grab lunch before or after he walk. I highly recommend this place! :) Ps I LOOOOOVE when they load up the burrito bowls with cheese! I LOOOOOVE cheese!! 💕💕

Love this place, have been coming here since 20', the few places open during covid. The food is fantastic, and the salsa bar is second to none. And a plus it's owned by a Denver Broncos die hard, SB60 . Not many places have the cabbage which is my wife's favorite, a must have at salsa bar.
I've been coming here for years and it has gotten consistently better over time. The chicken tortilla soup and the Very Berry salad are excellent except that in the salad the veggies could be cut into smaller pieces and the chicken, while excellent in flavor, was overcooked or left on the grill to the point it could have been jerky.
I love this place. Always get the super burrito and tried the Caldo de Res and it was great too! Their salsa bar is also superior.
The fajita burrito was fantastic! Great salsa bar. Quick service. Great experience!

They have good burritos and a good variety of other dishes. We did not wait long for our food. They have a digital menu in place, but it's a little uncomfortable to stand behind people eating at a table just below the screens. They have paper menus available where you place your order as well. The digital screen continued to change to a different page, and I could not see what I was looking for. But it was enjoyable.
Visited Bookish for local bookstore day and this place is right next door. Food was excellent. Finally a restaurant that knows how to season food. The salsa bar is the best I’ve seen with at least 4-5 salsas, guacamole, lemon wedges, chopped onions etc. The kind of place we will drive 2 towns over to have again and again.
We biked here for lunch yesterday. My husband really enjoyed his taco salad in a crispy flour tortilla bowl. I had two fish tacos. They are made with small corn tortillas, so kind of hard to hold onto. They also had too much salsa on them. I had a side of crispy fried flour tortilla chips which were hot and tasty, but a bit chewy inside. This is our third or fourth visit and plan to be back for Taco Tuesdays. We came back for Taco Tuesday. It was quite crowded. We had taco salads (good crispy taco, rice, beans, carne asada, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, etc.), nachos with carne asada, and quesadilla with carne asada. All were great. The place was packed.
If you asked me "is this the best Mexican food in town?" My answer would be no. HOWEVER, they are consistent here. You always know what you're getting and the food is good a solid 4.25/5. Don't expect a earth shattering experience, but it is a good solid option.
The prices were reasonable. The food was good, a lot of flavor. The only reason why do not give it 5 stars for the food is the consume for the stuffed qusabirra was a little to salty. Overall i would say it was a very good restaurant.I would definitely go again.
I ate Taqueria before during lunch the food was very salty. But I went back again at dinner time to get some food to go. There was a older gentleman in there cooking the food, he had just the right amount of salt and it tasted Great. Who every that way maybe they should keep him cooking the food only. And my young Adults kids loved the place.keep up the Good work and watch the salt everybody in the world have high blood pressure 😁

I would really like to love this place, but the food is truly inconsistent. We have been at this taceria 4 times since moving to Modesto. First time for lunch and it was okay. 2nd time for dinner and it was outstanding. Enough so, that we returned yesterday 04/10/24 at around 7pm my wife and l both had two tacos (carnitas and asada, rice and beans) the asada tasted cooked, not fried on a grill and the carnitas was dry and more like el pastor. Both items were super salty. I realize not every cook handles food the same, but consistency is the key to a good restaurant or taceria. I put the date and time down, so perhaps the owner will check in to, who was cooking that day. I truly hope you will view my post for what it was meant, constructive. If it was malicious, l would have given one star! Thank you
The food is good and friendly people , but they seem to get my order wrong , this has happened several times. I prefer the old cooks they used to have, food was very good and i always got what i ordered. The last time i ordered was a carnitas burrito I received shrimp burrito instead, this last time I ordered carnitas taquitos and received chicken taquitos. It’s good but not what i ordered.
Okay. Fish is very good and clean. Hard taco shells and chips are unfortunately stale & not made inhouse. .
I'm not sure what happened to this place. I've been coming here since like 2008. It used to easily be a 5 out of 5 stars. But maybe they got new owners or something, but the quality has dropped off the cliff. This uses to be my go-to mexican place in Modesto; but the last 4-7 times I've come here, it's been a disappointment. I think this is my last time coming here. Food taste and quality just really have gotten significantly worse.
My recent visit to Taqueria El Compadre had its ups and downs. The location in the shopping center is convenient for other places you may like to visit, and the atmosphere during my Tuesday evening visit was pleasant and uncrowded. The hostess was friendly and helpful, but unfortunately, my experience with the cashier fell short. There were some communication mishaps. My order included a chicken salad that was completely forgotten, despite being confirmed by the cashier. While the hostess apologized for the mistake, the cashier didn't acknowledge it or offer any apologies. Additionally, I wasn't informed about grabbing my own cup for water, leading to an unnecessary wait in line again. The food itself was decent. The three street tacos I ordered were average, neither exceptional nor disappointing. However, considering the service issues, the overall value falls short. Would I return? Highly unlikely. The convenient location and pleasant atmosphere are tempting, but I'd hope for more consistent and attentive service next time. If you do visit, make sure to clarify your order thoroughly and grab your own drink cup to avoid any communication gaps.
Took a chance to come to this restaurant and it was really all hype from the recommendations I got for it. First customer service is everything, sat down and waited for about 10minutes and no one mentioned i was supposed to walk up to the counter and order from there. The girl in the counter gave a rude vibe and looked like she didn't even want to do her job. Now to the food, ordered a mixed plate and the chicken, and beef was too small portioned and very thin and hard to chew. The rice was pretty good in my opinion but the refried beans tasted like they were canned and not fresh made. Overall I wouldn't visit again. Other people may have different opinions but take this with a grain of salt.
A torta is not on a (big) hamburger bun! Why is it that needs to be burned? The fries were with burnt oil after taste. My husband usually eats his food without complaints but he even complained about the oil after taste. We can do better! Mexican tortas are to be fresh, nicely layered, slightly toasted (for some) and surely with no oil after taste. Wish this business well. Sometimes we just need to state truths to help out in minor details or big ones to keep everyone with a smile.
Decent place I go often but do not recommend ordering from any app I paid $20 for a meal and didn't receive 1/2 the items and on the other item I ordered they put stuff I asked them not to due to dietary restrictions. I called and they admitted to getting it wrong and said they'd call back but never did. Def do not recommend Using uber eats for this place. A waste of $45
The food was mediocre at best and on the California surf and turf burrito the large shrimp were not cleaned. Large shrimp with an obviously well fed vein protruding through the semi transparent skin. Why on earth would they not de-vein and clean the shrimp? I feel a good indication on how someone's cooking tastes is the prep work before going into cooking. Clearly they do not care.

Last Saturday night, We noticed a change in your Service and Food Quality. The gal taking our order, short, heavy set could not greet us like the other ladies do on a regular basis. She was leaning on the counter. It seemed painful for her to take our order and that she did not want to be there. People in my party, by reading her body language only asked me what's wrong with her? Our Chicken Fajitas arrived and we said Where is the chicken? You provide three tortillas and not enough chicken to put into the third tortilla. For $23 put some chicken on the plate. Complete 180 of your food and service from past experiences. You have to ask if they are related. I hope you read this while we discuss if we are coming back.

Got our food DoorDash and I have to say it was the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted in my entire life. The rice had zero flavor looks like white rice, the chili Relleno was cold and dry the cheese wasn’t melted and the enchiladas tasted like they used ketchup for sauce. The meat was cold and flavored with well nothing. The salsa was more like tomato water with some onions added. I will never eat here again
Why do they have microwaves? I see them using microwaves every time I’m there. Food makes me sick very often. Every time I travel to town I’ll go with family and I’m immediately sick. Salsa sometimes seem expired and the tortilla soup never comes out the same. My mom and I both ordered it and both looked and tasted completely different.
Came here last night with friends. Food was really good. Steak probably could have had a little bit of seasoning but over all everyone loved the food. Issue was with the girl at the register, she was super rude to us. And besides that There was no sauces so I asked if I was able to get some sauce from the fridge since they didn’t have any anymore and our server looked at the other girl to make sure it was okay and she said oh no those are for DoorDash but had the biggest attitude could have said it nicer so I told her will you guys close at 10 which one 9:20ish. So definitely need to work on customer service.
This place has really gone down hill. Food had no flavor, and the chicken was undercooked and both my daughter and I ended up with food poisoning. We through out the food and wasted money and gained terrible stomach aches.
35min for one buritto just to have all tendon meat no actual asada. Thanks for wasting my time and money. I dont recommend this place to anyone.
