This is not an order-at-the-counter taqueria - it’s a beautifully decorated, served-by-a-waitress, family-owned newly-opened gem featuring unique Mexican food from a specific area of that country. The Enchiladas Mexicanas that the wonderful server recommended was unique and one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had - from any restaurant. What a pleasant surprise - highly recommended.
Great place for authentic food. Quick and attentive service. Patio seating for those who enjoy the outdoors.
If you’re looking for a Mexican restaurant, come here and you will be very satisfied! We ordered the guacamole, the ceviche appetizer and the carne assada. Ceviche was surreal, so refreshing. Exactly what I wanted. All the food overall was delicious, really! The only item I would pass on that we ordered is the margarita. Not because it wasn’t good, but all the food was so exceptional that the margarita didn’t quite reach that level. Service was super efficient, food and drinks arrived ultra fast.
Good food, good drinks and such a cute restaurant with great atmosphere.
Karina gave us absolutely amazing service during our visit! She was so attentive and genuinely made sure we had everything we needed. She suggested the mini sopes for my sister and the pollo a la crema for me, and let me tell you—both dishes were a hit! The pollo a la crema was unbelievably delicious, full of creamy goodness and perfect flavors. And to top it off, they have my favorite margarita, the Tequila Mockingbird, which was just as amazing and spicy and perfect as always! Every time we come here, we’re treated like family, and that warm, welcoming vibe really makes this place stand out. We can’t wait to return!
Loved the shrimp tacos, and the house margarita. This is a locally owned restaurant, the interior is beautiful, and the exterior is a nice relaxing patio. I definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed my dining experience here. There was live music, the atmosphere was vibrant and so enjoyable. There is indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of parking, a great menu, and the service was excellent! I feel like whoever is running this restaurant is doing a great job because the employees seem to enjoy working there, the host who seated us seemed quite young and I was so impressed with his service. Overall just such a great vibe here.
this is my favorite modesto restuarant. my wife and i go there at least once a week with our little dog and eat outside. Its our dogs favorite place. She sits under the table and watches the other diners who usually make a fuss over her. good food good service good atmosphere.
Having visited and dined in Mexico City this is the most authentic restaurant in Modesto. A real culinary treasure in east Modesto. The vibe is great, service is excellent and the value to quality ratio of the food is off the charts. Tonight Taqueria El Maguey won a new devoted fan! Beef Fajitas won my heart.
I love this place. The staff is super friendly, the food is delicious, and the margaritas - whoa - the margaritas are out of this world. Take it from me, the Mango Tango is on a whole different level. Do yourself a favor and order one - in fact, make it a double. I like mine with a half-salt, half-tajin rim.
I went with family for the first time ever around the holidays, and everyone loved their dish, including the kids (they have kids menu). It's a nice place, it felt and looked clean, with beautiful decor, enough outdoor seating. The service was great and so was the food. After lunch we had some good coffee and they served it in the cutest mugs. I will be definitely coming back and try more dishes!
Amazing and authentic Mexican food. I love their enchiladas. Their cocktails are also so tasty! Have eaten here multiple times and have never been disappointed.
Yummy Mexican food at this friendly restaurant! Service was great, efficient and very welcoming. They have large seating indoors and an outdoor patio. The shrimp platter was so good and portions are quite large! The guac and chips are a nice appetizer and you can ask for more if you want!
This restaurant is amazing. It's a little hidden in a corner, but once you step towards it, the aroma will keep you there. The drinks run strong and fresh, and the Molcahete stays nice and hot throughout your visit (which I highly recommend) from the taste to the short wait for our food, this place is a must!
Delicious authentic Mexican food. We have been coming here for years. The food is consistently good, they have a full bar and the service is always friendly. The atmosphere is clean , casual, and nicely done. It is, by far, our favorite Mexican restaurant.
I was pleasantly surprised with my visit here. The outdoor dining is very inviting not just a tent in a parking lot. Now to the food everything had such a great quality and attention to detail. Their corn tortillas are made in house! If you are lucky enough to go on the weekend their Birria is 🔥! I'm definitely going to be back soon!
Sunday lunch at El Maguey was delicious! We ordered a Molcajete Mixto that included steak, shrimp, chicken, chorizo fire grilled nopal, fire grilled green onions, fire grilled chiles with 2 types of cheese monterrey and azadero in a delicious mild house sauce brought sizzling to our table! Also, a side plate of spanish rice with fried beans and Pico de Gallo and guacamole with fresh handmade corn tortillas included. Their horchata drink was an A+ big, sweetened perfectly and soo refreshing with the right amount of ice and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon. The molcajete was big enough to feed 3 people. For 3 horchatas and a molcajete, we spent under $50.00 total. It's a very good deal and delicious!
I had the yummy shrimp cocktail. Very tasty with the addition of lime. Haven't been here in awhile but the quality of the food was spot on. Definitely recommend.
The food is delicious! I almost gave 4 stars because the drink sizes aren’t very big. We had great service.
the chips and salsa is good and the bean dip too! perfect imo not salty. I got the chili Verde and that was delicious. we didn't wait long and it was in the afternoon. food came quick. very friendly staff.
We enjoyed Saturday breakfast with the family. We ordered chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, fajitas and one French toast. The guavaritas were delicious and the place is cute!

I love this place! The fish tacos are amazing!! Literally the beta I've ever had!! Great margaritas! Beautiful artwork on the walls, the outdoor seating is gorgeous, fantastic service! Can't get any better!
Food was great. We try appetizers, entree and my wife added a chile relleno and everything was amazing. The cucumber lemonade was amazing
Great place for authentic food. Quick and attentive service. Patio seating for those who enjoy the outdoors.
Food is good, very under seasoned (a little salt perked everything right up), except asada was SUPER flavorful. We were told Carnitas is popular, we found it very dry and lacking flavor. Fish tacos were huge, but again, couldn't taste the fish - no seasoning. The slaw on the fish tacos had a nice smokey Chipotle slaw though. Friendly service, though we waited about 15 minutes too long for the check. Beautiful atmosphere. We'll come again, probably. May have been an off day in the kitchen, or they could regularly underseason food to accommodate the public. We shall see!
Food is delicious for lunch or dinner!! I dont recommend it for breakfast!! Breakfast are small and don’t include variety on a plate!
This place was great. Came for the coffee pop up outside but stayed to have lunch. Authentic and delicious!
Had to dock a star for the service. The food was great. Shrimp tacos. Simple and so good. But they forgot my side salad. We had three different people trying to help and we still got forgotten. 45 min wait for food and not crowded at all. Maybe some confusion. No big deal. The mucho mango margarita was so good. The regular margarita was perfect but we got it to go because someone forgot about us. No real apology. Sad because the chefs and bartender were great
Great outdoor area for dinning, restaurant is decorated very nicely. Food is great, chips and salsa were delicious! Always have a good experience there, this time around service was a little off but hoping it was just a hiccup
I always start a new place with nachos. Chips held up to the bean meat and toppings. Nice portions. Chips to meat pretty good. Chicken nicely cooked. Overall 8.0. That drink which was cucumber, was fire so freaking good.
Service was top notch, ambience was the best part, drinks were delectable, food was ok. Maybe other dishes are good. I ordered mojacate and wasn't too delighted. My husband did love the potato tacos.

Average run of the mill Modesto Mexican restaurant. I’ve been three different times now on the insistence of others. The decor is nice and the restaurant looks very clean but the food is mediocre. Maybe their drinks are really good, I didn’t have any. The food is pretty bland and really nothing special. If you’re just wanting burritos and tacos I’d recommend visiting their taco truck on Yosemite & Riverside. They’re better and cheaper, you’re really paying a premium at this location. Service was also pretty slow on two of my visits despite it not being busy. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
I got the supreme carnita nachos they were ok not the best I've had but decent. It Didn't have that much cheese or beans lots of chips some guacamole which was good not much sourcream just drizzled, carnitas were ok I have had better. Pretty basic nachos for a supreme. And the meals there are pretty pricey but over all nice atmosphere decent vibe.
First time ever going here. The staff was very nice and fast with seating us and serving us. We shared the Molecajete and added chicken. I have say it wasn’t my favorite dish. The chicken was a little dry and the chorizo was very average. If I go back I would definitely change my order. It seems like there was a few regulars in there. I think I just need to try something else.

The drinks at Taqueria El Maguey are fabulous--especially the Mango Tango. I appreciated the kids menu and the solid service. The food is there to help suck up the alcohol, not to provide a culinary experience, the one exception being the prawns a la crema in a creamy white sauce. The garlic prawns were large, flayed and served with a small cupful of salsa on the side, with minimal garlic. The sauce for the a la diabla prawns tasted like it had ketchup in it. If you like spicy and flavorful Mexican food, grab a Mango Tango or two or three here and then take an Uber down the street to La Parilla. I'll be back to El Maguey for the Mango Tango, the beautiful courtyard in front, and the fabulous artwork on the walls. Will give the food another try at some point, as we all have not-so-great days in the kitchen. To circumvent my experience, I recommend asking for and ordering one of their signature dishes.

I think is too pricey the tacos are small and the meat is more fat then meat also too greasy I understand is a business but sometime they abuse on prices not sure if I would come back so disappointing. 4 a taco not bigger than the hand of a six year old ridiculous.

I would give this place zero stars if I could. First off, this isn't the first time I go with my family. The service was below decent. The food may be good, but not worth the service. This last time we went, we waited an hour while others were receiving their food (they were there after us) and we waited. My child was becoming impatient because she was hungry so my husband went to ask if the food was near ready and they were about to start cooking it. We left. Last time we go. I could find another restaurant with better customer service.
My wife and I went there for brunch and were greeted promptly and nicely. The waitress took our drinks and our order. Once the food arrived the rice felt like it had been glued together. It was dry and had no flavor. Just for reference I got the Mocajete which came with the rice beans and salad. She got the 3 quesabirria tacos. We will NEVER be going back to this place. Don’t waste your time or money. NOT WORTH IT
Very bad experience. Before sitting down on the patio, I spoke with the waitress and told her I wanted to sit outside... she said it was fine. Then they came out and told me the patio was closed, even though there was no sign saying so. What a shame! I won't be coming back here!

We waited a long time for our food. And when we got it, they were parasites, little worms crawling out of my aunt's plate, I will never eat there and all they said was, I'm sorry, my friend, I called the health and Inspection. My aunt's been sick for two days with her stomach
