This place is great! The staff are lovely but the food is very good too. We've eaten here twice and not only does it have flavor, it's fresh and very well portioned. I highly recommend trying this place! The pizza was a little disappointing as vegetables were simply piled on...that's not a "pizza". Only other small recommendation, freshen and brighten the interior a bit.

First time visiting Bella Sera, I really enjoyed it. The bread was hot and full of flavor. The wait staff was kind and professional. The pasta was so fresh and light. I had the White Wine Shrimp Pasta is was delicious. It was my birthday so they brought me out some amazing tiramisu, it was not to sweet which I loved. When I come back to this area to visit, I’ll definitely be stopping back in to try something new.

Hands down the best Trattoria in Monrovia!! Ordered some type of holiday apple martini and a Pear Ginger Snap specialty drinks, which are seasonal. They were tasty. Thank you to Sarah, who's the master mind of the drinks. We ordered the carbonara, shrimp alfredo, and also prime rib steak medium rare. My plate came with garlic mash potatoes covered with portobello mushrooms. My eyes rolled to the back of my head when I tasted that combo. I heard locals talking saying that everything they've ordered off this menu has never been disappointed. So next time I come, I will be ordering the cioppino as well as the bacon wrapped dates.

Went out with friends to this wonderful Italian restaurant in downtown Monrovia tonight. Maj was our server and he really helped our group have an amazing experience. Maj provided excellent service and was attentive to our needs, despite being very busy. I have included some photos with excerpts of the menu. food was delicious! We had the stuffed mushrooms for an Appetizer, and we all agreed these mushrooms were the best we had ever had! Entrees we ordered included Chicken Marsela and Chicken Picatta. The restaurant has an open floor plan, and the meals are being prepared in an open style kitchen. Judging by how busy they were tonight, I would recommend making reservations. Delicious food + Fabulous service = FIVE STAR RATING from this Yelp Reviewer! Ci siamo divertiti

The food was so fresh. The fruit was cut up for our order. This NEVER happens! With very few exceptions. Exceptional service and value. I will be back!

A tasty finish to a wonderful weekend! We were in town for a family wedding and came here for our final meal before flying home. Everything was fantastic - friendly, attentive service (3 different people checked on us), and the food was delicious. I had the shrimp white wine citrus pasta. My husband had the lobster ravioli. Both were excellent. Even the bread was wonderful, served warm and fragrant with garlic and herb butter. Located in the historic district Monrovia, it was a lovely finish to our weekend!

Always a good time in Bella Sera. Have been coming here for the past 4 years and love it all. Great interior and weekends they open up the patio in the back. We ordered the carbonara, lasagna, and bolognese. The bread comes with their housemade butter. It can be a casual or little dressed up kind of restaurant. The servers are also nice. Will be back for sure.

When my wife and I first came here during the pandemic, we fell in love. The food is exceptional, the service warm and friendly, and the atmosphere very family-oriented. We have tried just about every dish they have and thus far we have not come across one that is below exceptional. My wife enjoys the Frutti Di Mare with a La Crisi salad, while I enjoy their Chicken Marsala with a Caesar salad. We highly recommend these dishes! For dessert, we recommend the Tiramisu! I wish they would bring back their delicious brownie and chocolate chip cookie dessert. That was my favorite. Overall, if you want an excellent meal and friendly service, add Bella Sera to your list of restaurants to visit!

Our friends gave us a nice gift certificate for this place and we're so glad to have found it. I had what they call pappardelle Alfredo adding shrimp and it was just perfect. The shrimp is perfectly cooked, the sauce and noodles were just beautiful.

Went for dinner last night. Food was delicious. Service was as well. We saw a table of miserable people complaining about everything and felt so bad for the server that we tipped her extra. Do better people. If you’re already miserable before you walk through the door, then just keep in walking

Love this place. They give you a full loaf of bread with garlic butter to start you off. The appetizers are tasty and the portions generous. Have tried their pizzas and they are very tasty, with a thin crust that reminds me of those in Italy. Happy hour is a great deal if you can make it during those hours

This place has become a favorite in my family. I've gone here 3-4 times now and each time the food is wonderful. I really enjoy the simple clam pasta there. There is an ample amount of clams. Price is reasonable at this slightly upscale place. Would come back!

Have been meaning to eat here for months. Finally had an opportunity with my daughter and her boyfriend. Service was absolutely 5 star. My daughter is vegetarian and was thrilled with the options available. She and I both agreed Bella Sera is our go to restaurant now.

I went recently on a week night with a friend and we loved the food. I've been before and I thought it was a good 8 out of 10 but this last time I tried the Carbonara, and wow, delish! It was missing the peas which I would have liked but nonetheless, I would recommend!!! The server also suggested a very tasty red to go with the meal called Stella Artica from Italy. We had a bottle - also delish! We had a good bruschetta to start which was nice and their Lemon Berry Marscapone Wedding cake was delightful. We sat at the bar and enjoyed good company. Good night.

This may be the best Italian food I've ever had. The vodka sauce pasta dish with sausage is excellent. I've been in town two days on business and I've eaten here twice already. I expect more to come. Update: I've come back to town on two more occasions, staying for a week each time. In that time I've managed to eat at this restaurant at least 6 or 7 times. The servers must think I'm crazy ordering the same thing over and over again, but it's just so darn good. Also, they probably have the best creme brûlée around.

My buddy had made a reservation for the patio area earlier in the day for 4 to celebrate him and his wife's birthday. When we arrived there the table was not ready so they sat us is in the bar area in the interim. Not once did anyone come back to us and let us know the table was ready or check in. We approached them multiple times to ask for an update on the table etc. Our dinner was also supposed to come with a special dessert because we had called ahead and informed them of the birthday's as well. That didn't happen. We didn't received menu's until they were asked for. Having said this, the food was pretty damn good. We asked to speak with the manager upon the conclusion of our meal and he was very apologetic and offered us a gift card for the next time we came which was unexpected and thoughtful. Bottom line: rough start but the food was delicious and in the end, the manager also gets kudos.

"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore..".Yes, I love this place! We arrived around 6:30pm and were able to sit out back on the patio. Loved the fountain and trees hovering over us. Stephanie was our server. She has been there for 2 years and was very attentive and helpful with our menu choices. My friend and I ordered the pomegranate martini which was okay. Took a while to feel the "Tito's!" Lol. My daughter & I shared Penne Vodka & the Serra Pizza. Both excellent but "lukewarm:(" If they were piping hot this review would be "5" stars. My friend's Chicken Piccata was beautiful and served hot! Definitely going back for a 5 star night. Loved the ambience, service was amazing, super friendly and the decor was appealing. *Reservations CAN NOT be made for same day service. *Ravioli is NO Longer on the menu *Great for large groups *Children are welcomed *Back Patio can accommodate large parties *Plenty of street parking

I was a bit apprehensive at first because the pictures are very limited to the same plates, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food is at this place. You can’t go wrong visiting this place, the portions and prices are matched really well. I will define coming coming back for more.

Would've gotten five stars if it wasn't for the poor service. Every other table had a water bottle, bread, and oil/balsamic before their menus. We had to ask and wait ten minutes before bread was dropped off by a busser we had to pull aside. Never got our water or oil/vinegar. Bolognese and carbonara were excellent though. Shame such a great kitchen had to be let down at the last five feet. *Second visit- staff was more responsive however one pasta dish came out nearly uncooked. We had almost finished our other two dinners before our third had theirs replaced. Management comped it but the experience still has room for improvement and consistency.

The warmest ambiance and classic feel of old of a cozy local Italian restaurant to disappear from your problems and get lost in the night with some great pasta and solid deserts. Do it, get your carb on and try this place. Family atmosphere with a hint of romance, sit in back and enjoy the beautiful lighting and set the mood for a great night!

Place was busy for a Thursday evening. Our waiter was great & extremely accommodating. Food delish & cocktails are very good.. we all order different dishes & drinks among 4 of us & we all were very satisfied with selections! Outside dining in back patio available. Will be back soon! ; ),

Just had dinner, and being a vegetarian, I highly recommend the vegetarian lasagna. Atmosphere is nice, our server Samantha was very helpful, polite, friendly, and tended to us with a smile. We definitely will return with our extended family. Samantha also explained to us about gluten free items that are not on the menu. We're excited to bring our grandkids who have food allergies.

I was there for an appreciation luncheon. The food was quite good, and the service was great! There was also a table-to-table, up-close magician, which was great fun! We were on the patio, under a roof of sorts -- and it was too warm. The overhead fans were not yet functional. Otherwise, I would recommend this restaurant. Just eat indoors.

Great ambience, nice interior. Staff was friendly and polite. Honestly, not impressed with the food. I had the Rib Ragu and it was lacking flavor. The meet was chewy. I def wished I had ordered something else. The carbonara was ok, definitely way better than the rib.

Short rib pizza was decent. Ordered a Sicilian Sunrise but there was no mint and it tasted like grapefruit juice instead of pineapple. Service was great!

A good place to eat after the movie. With a party of 9, they couldn’t seat us right away. But after waited 10-15 minutes, we were told they can only seat us in split tables… two round tables next to each other. The food was good for the most part, chicken for the salad was on the dry side. But the sandwiches and pasta were good! A bit pricy for lunch but was expected with the inflation and everything.

Fantastic service, extremely limited menu for the price. We sat in the back patio, and a table near us had the most unruly children I’ve experienced in a long time. Very unpleasant. The food was good though, I didn’t care for the stuffed Gorgonzola mushrooms however. We’ll come back and give them another try.

J

The food was okay. But the wine selection and atmosphere was excellent. It helped that the friends I went with are always really fun, but nobody raved about the food and nobody complained about it either. I shared a pizza and a salad with my girlfriend. Unfortunately, I can't remember which for either because it just wasn't memorable. The good thing is that the ingredients tasted fresh, but both the salad dressing and the pizza sauce were pretty bland. It was a busy night so maybe the kitchen was overworked and quantity won over quality... who knows? Would I go back, maybe, but it wouldn't be me suggesting it. The definite highlight though was the warm bread with melty creamy butter!

Well made a reservation, just in case . Foods had great flavors But atmosphere was more of sports bar. Lights, cool but set no mood for dining That sports bar vibe. well , service not..... have been many trattorias along my path . Service utensils for each course should come , hard to eat mussels with dinner folk of an odd shape. Sauces yum but bring a spoon I want savor it up.Again food was good.

I love this restaurant. What I dont love is how they change up the menu. You come in and expect to have the last savory appetizer and entree to learn they've change it up. Also, I REALLY do not like that there menu is not up on their website. Food is tasty if they have what you like. I was disappointed with tonight's dinner. The stuffed mushrooms were deep fried and that took away from the taste. The scallops were delicious, the risotto was okay, bearable. Wish they would have had the bacon wrapped dates, which are absolutely delicious. I also wish they would have had the scallops with sweet potatoe puree. 😔

Read some good reviews, had to chime in. I like the vibe, I like the feel, but the food was very average. I had to wait quite a long time for the bread to come out. By then we had already finished our salad. The center of the bread was COLD. It just tasted like undercooked pizza dough quite honestly. It's not Italian bread by any means, way too much yeast. Onto the pasta. I ordered penne with vodka sauce. A bit light on the creme, it wasn't what I consider a vodka sauce (a really good example of correct vodka sauce is Il Fornaio). The pasta was cooked properly though (Al dente) and the sausage crumbles were nicely seasoned and added a lot to the dish. My wife got the carbonara, which ended up being cooked poorly (see pics). See all that oil? This is what happens when in culinary terms, the sauce "breaks". Basically the oil and non oil liquids separate, so now my pasta is swimming in oil instead of being coated in a creamy sauce. My wife ate less than half of what she was served. I ate the rest but felt pretty grossed out from all the oil. Once again. Just look at the picture I posted. All oil. No repeat trip for me sorry. I think it's a nice spot to grab a glass of wine, and enjoy some appetizers, but that really is about it.

This is strictly a COVID Era takeout review. I'll keep it brief...incredibly tiny portions, no flavor and full priced fare.Won't be ordering from here again for takeout. 5 meals for $85 bucks and my entire family was left hungry... This place has clearly been following suit with the many restaurants either thinking they could get away with offering less for their takeout portions while still charging full menu price, or suffering from greedy management - trying to make up for lost revenues during shut down periods. Not sure. I don't want to give a one star review because we used to come here often for dinner pre-COVID and while I would say this place was pretty decent, it was certainly far from 5 stars. Definitely needs better cooks, a more flexible menu and better pricing.

Fake italian, pasta overcooked and gnocchi like a bricks, charcuterie and chees not as aspected in Italian restaurants.

I hope it is just an adjustment to the pandemic. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I had to ask for setups after waiting 10 minutes with a tasteless appetizer. The garden salad was nothing but radicchio. The worst part was the main course. The salmon looked absolutely gorgeous until 2 bites in and found it to be not just uncooked, but raw and cold. Service was slow but friendly friendly. I am Fair. The outdoor patio atmosphere was very very nice. I'm just disappointed because this was my go-to place.

Disappointing! This was our Saturday out and we should have gone elsewhere. - Dirty napkin, dirty water glasses, and bathroom that was a mess. - Terrible “side” Caesar Salad with brown edged lettuce, almost no dressing. Chicken Caesar Salad ordered by another guest was much better. - Poor service; had to ask for water twice. Waitress serving another table kept talking loudly to her guests across our table and interrupting us!! - Garlic Crab Linguine was good, but pricey for what it was. There are lots of Italian restaurants - go to them, not to this one.

Out of a party of 7, only one of use liked our dinner. Chicken was bland and weird, Salmon was dry since it was burnt, the meatballs were pretty good. The free bread was the only thing that that was enjoyed by us all. Will not be going back. Service was good, really wanted to like this place but the food.

C
CC Pearl

Every table had bread and water service. We had to waive down the waiter for water but she told us they ran out of bread. How does a restaurant that serves pizza run out of bread at the beginning of dinner? And looking around, others got bread and olive oil. But we were there and hungry so we ordered. Pastas were good but didn't stand out. Pizzas did not taste fresh and seemed pre-made or frozen. Perhaps that's why they didn't have bread? But oh no, because I went to the restroom to wash my hand after dinner and passed the open kitchen area. What did I see? A a pile of dinner bread, cut up and ready to serve!

J
Janet R

I’ve been to this restaurant several times over the years and there lack of consistency keeps me from going more often or if ever now. I ordered takeout spaghetti and meatballs and what was given to me was boiled noodles and meatballs. Considering the cost of the dish it baffled me how anyone could feel comfortable serving this to a customer. It was so disappointing.

A

This place sucked. Didn't let us make a reservation, said we wouldn't need one. Arrived at the restaurant, half of the tables were empty, said they were all reserved lol. In-laws still wanted to eat here even though they already had treated us poorly. Got seated at a table in the back alley that was covered in black grime & dust, chairs also dirty and had gum on them (see pic). Two small tables for the four of us that were mismatched height. There were multiple smokers that passed by during our dinner. Food was expensive and not so great. Salad was bitter, like it wasn't washed properly or too old. Seafood pasta was somehow super bland. Bolengese & pizza was fine, but not great. Tldr: I think you would be nuts to eat here.

Went back for another try. We ordered 6 items and they were out of two of them Peroni beer being one,,,, Italian joint out of Italian beer.... chicken parm was uneatable as was the calamari. Bread and salad was good but the dirty condition of the place put our appetites off. Sorry, the place used to be great when first opened but no more

Big huge yuck. 26 dollars for crunchy shrimp scampi. It was flavorless. It was soaking in an inch of water. The service was good though. The waitress was so sweet. Anyway, we had a party of 8 and only 1 person was happy with their order.

L

There are so many other Italian restaurants….go there. I tried to go someplace new. That backfired. Way overpriced for what you get. The waitress did the bare minimum then sat at the bar chatting with her friends. The food was not cooked properly. And the place is filthy.

G

Should have gone to Olive Garden. Wanted to give a new place a try and this place looked good, the reviews were good. I was very disappointed though. The food was just ok, We ordered the chicken Parmesan and the chicken was under cooked, was pink from the inside. The food lacked flavor, the gnocchi was blah, it was hard and the sauce was bland. Just because we ordered an appetizer it doesn’t mean that we DON’T want their complimentary bread that I thought they offered. The service was HORRIBLE, never did anyone come to ask if we were doing ok, or offered to re fill our drinks. Never going back there again! 😡

L
Lisa Hames

-Food was overpriced and under cooked -Service was terrible. We were absolutely ignored compared to the service the table next to us got. -Atmosphere was nice but filthy dirty. Do your self a favor, find another restaurant.

Visited about six weeks ago for a simple Sunday lunch; pizza, salad and sodas. For starters, not a single other customer was in the building. That should have been a red flag. The sodas were flat. The waitress learned that they were all out of CO2 so nothing could be done about it. The salads were OK but not great. The pizza was terrible. It was dry, slightly burned on one side and both the crust and toppings were so thin it was as if they were painted onto the dish. I've had better from Pizza Hut or bargain supermarket frozen pizzas. The place is surrounded by far better restaurants so I'm not going back any time soon,
