Opinions de Great American Fish Company Morro Bay
We dined last night at GAFC, and despite how busy it was, the experience was fantastic. The entire serving team was awesome at hustling, making sure everyone was taken care of without missing a beat. Our server, Sherri, stood out with her attentiveness and care. She kept our drinks filled, brought out complimentary bread while we waited, and made sure we were always good. Even with a rush, she checked in often, making us feel like a priority. The whole team's hard work made the experience truly enjoyable! Oh, and the food was excellent!
I'll start with the staff. They were amazing. Our waitress was funny and polite. She was inviting and fun. God bless her. Our food was amazing. My hats off to the men or women who cooked it. My wife and I really enjoyed the food. Definitely worth the price. Atmosphere; Frickin amazing! Just a nostalgic place. It was clean and well kept. Thank you for making our night special. You folks made it amazing 👏
This is my absolute most favorite place to eat in Morro Bay. The service is impeccable and the food is a phenomenal. Hands down the best clam chowder I've ever had. Complete with the perfect view of Morro Rock. I loved seeing the adorable otters and seals enjoying their day as I had lunch.
They were very busy with not a lot of free tables, but we were still able to get an open table for two. Everyone was very friendly, very accommodating. The poor servers were very busy and running around but they are always there when needed, always able to check in on our table and always helping us get extra refills or napkins, etc. The food was pretty good. We had the crab mac and cheese, which came with two small pieces of garlic bread. That was delicious. We also had the GAFC Sandwich, which was basically fish and cheese on a single slice of bread. I expected at least two slices, like a sandwich. However it was good, with melted cheese on top of soft fish. The food was very good, and the atmosphere was nice, upbeat, and welcoming.
Best complement for a restaurant...a repeat customer...this will be mine for this restaurant. My group of 13 had a great dinner with great results that I had to walk into the back to let the people who made my foods and that of my friends cooked well and just right. I had a T-bone with healthy portions but everyone else dishes were the same. My buddy paster with perfectly cook prawns..is this the way to say nice and big shrimps?? The scallops were also perfectly cook... seafood are always too easy to over cook...the shrimps were crunchy texture made that pasta dish... had to voice my group positive dinning experience to the manager...who happened to be our server..he didnt let us in on that either...atmosphere..spot on...again..I will be back anytime I am thru Morro Bay...oh. The views of the Rock amazing as well.
Best costumer service ever!! Our waitress was the sweetest girl me and my friend have ever met, food was so worth it!
This place looks fairly humble on the outside, but your experience here will be far from humble! While not over-the-top “fancy” (thank goodness), the food is perfect and delicious, the portions generous, and the servers kind and friendly. Plus you have that gorgeous bay to view while dining! Do yourself a favor - book a window table for sunset on your birthday. 🌅 You’re welcome!
Genuinely some of the best seafood I’ve had in my life. The hostess was wonderful and totally recognized us as hungry, unsuccessful fisherman haha. The waitress was very considerate and friendly, and even kept her composure when dealing with the uppity customers a couple tables over. You can’t please everyone, right? I cannot think of a single gripe, we were treated with respect and served delicious food. We were not rushed at all, and felt at home. I did not mention to the staff that it was actually my birthday, but still they made it one of the best birthday dinners I’ve had in a long time. Thank you very much! I highly recommend!
We've been here a few times, but made reservations this year for our 30th anniversary. They had a reserved sign 9n our table by the window when we got there, where we were able to watch the sun set. The owner came by to check on us and make sure we were having a great dinner and to wish us a happy anniversary. The food is so good. We love this place!
Our waitress Alicia was such a sweetheart, she had such a positive attitude, ensured our glasses were full and had some great menu recommendations! I ended up getting the lunch special of a chipotle chicken sandwich and it was very delicious!! My partner got the snapper tacos and those were great as well! We’d certainly love to come back here if we are ever back in the area!(: the place also has a very cute view of Morro Rock ☺️
We showed up not sure what to expect. We asked for a booth for 5 and we got seated in the most exclusive and cozy booth with the best view of the water. This was perfect! The waitress was so sweet and vary considerate. The food was vary tasty and abundant. Best experience ever! We are definitely coming back.
Upon entering, we were greeted by a smiling host who warmly welcomed us in. We were seated by the window and enjoyed watching the setting sun against the beautiful backdrop of Morro Rock. Sherri, our server was super sweet and helpful. When drinks were low, she was there to ask if we wanted another. She was attentive and helpful our entire dinner with perfect timing. The calamari, clam chowder, fish & chips, and creme Brule cheesecake, perfection. Love this town of Morro Bay, CA!
We give this restaurant a full five stars. The location offers a great view of the bay and Morro Rock. The restaurant has cozy ambiance and clean environment as well. Our server was kind and attentive. The food was delicious. We had the steamed Dungeness crab which was fresh- not frozen. Absolutely delicious. The barbecued oysters were juicy and had a delicious butter garlic sauce. We even used the tender sourdough bread to continue dipping into the sauce. This was our favorite restaurant in Morro Bay.
It was pretty packed but we ended up finding a two-seater in the corner which was pretty good, given it had a view of Morrow Rock and a guest appearance by an otter right next to the dock! We ordered coconut shrimp as an appetizer, raspberry ice tea for drinks (bottomless!), A sourdough sandwich with seafood and cheese (can't recall the name exactly) and Mac n cheese with crab and tomatoes. Everything tasted great and I had no complaints (I had crab for the first time here, and I was not disappointed!) I personally don't eat ham, bacon or any such variation so it was nice to know that these things could be excluded from my order if I requested it. The staff was polite, helpful and gave great recommendations (that's where the caramel apple cheesecake came in).
The host was very hospitable and courteous. He was able to answer all the questions we had about the menu considering we were ordering take out. We ordered a few items and a soda. The food came out quick and we were on our way. He even offered to refill our soda before we left! Great first experience. We will be back!
Amazing clam chowder, perfectly thick and seasoned to perfection!! Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly and the king crab legs were to die for!! The king crab mac and cheese gets a thumbs up too! What topped the experience was the incredible waiting staff, their knowledge and service was great! Definitely going back soon!!
Awesome place. Super friendly, attentive, and quick wait staff. We had outdoor seating in the wonderful sunshine. Our beloved pup got to sit with us and enjoy this truly remarkable experience. The food was good. Drinks were great. All in all it was a memorable event for our trip. Wish I would have taken more photos to share. But I was occupied enjoying it all.
Must try restaurant!! I ordered the Seafood Platter, which was shrimp, scallops, salmon, cod, and halibut in a scampi sauce. This is probably the best seafood dish I have ever had, and a must have. We also got their house ceviche, which was so good. You can taste the freshness of the fish. Chips cost extra, and we didn't eat them, so you may not need them. Overall a great experience. 10 out of 10 would recommend and will return!
I have been going to the Great American fish company for over 40 years. It still remains my favorite restaurant for fresh fish. I can still remember when I was a child and special guest came in from out of town My parents would take us all to the Great American Fish Company as a special treat. My wife and I recently celebrated Valentine's Day there and had a wonderful meal in a very warm atmosphere with pleasant hosts who were eager to serve. We highly recommend it.
Great American Fish Company has always been an old favorite of mine. For a while it was starting to feel a little run down, but I’m happy to say they’ve clearly put real effort into upgrades and refurbishments. The new floors and furniture make the whole place feel fresh again without losing the classic Morro Bay vibe. We had an absolutely wonderful experience, with a perfect view of the sunset. Service was fantastic (thank you, Caleb), and the food was very tasty and priced fairly. This place is officially “back” and I’ll be coming here again.
My 10 year old asked for a window seat and her wish was granted! The Mexican shrimp cocktail was soooooo good, so generous with the shrimp. I took the rest home and as it sat overnight, I didn't think it was possible, but it got even better! We will be back!
We had a great experience at The Great American Fish Company in Morro Bay! Even though it’s known for seafood, we ordered a kid’s cheeseburger with some seriously amazing steak fries and a huge, fresh salad loaded with all the trimmings—definitely big enough to share. The food quality was top-notch, and the service was friendly and prompt. We sat by the window and got to watch otters swimming by, which made the whole meal feel extra special. Afterward, we walked down to the docks to check out the boats. The whole place has a fun, laid-back beach town vibe that really adds to the experience. Highly recommend stopping by!
Always a pleasure and delicious meal at Great American Fish Company! Besides the great service you will receive. This time it was Cassandra who was welcoming, smiling and really kind, even though they were slammed busy. Then I had Ms. Ashley who was my server and besides being right on point with her helping with decisions, she was just a delight! Both of them, Cassandra and Ashley are exact reasons I will be returning and continue to spend my money for excellent customer service and a meal! Now, the meal…..ohhh my! Every time I come, I get the calamari steak and a side of fried prawns, of course the cup of clam chowder and it is always too much but worth every bite and bit of uncomfortable fullness! Lolllll The calamari steak is giant and cooked in a light panko crumb….I’m drooling again right now! The views are phenomenal and you can also watch the chefs prepare your food through the windows. It’s a great restaurant with amazing decor, staff and food! Thank you Cassandra and Ashley and the chefs behind the scenes! Mr. Vido and I will be back.
Great American Fish Company, August 3, 2024 My daughter & me came here with some of her friend's & their family so we tried the "Fish & Chips" (fried) & my daughter got the "Clam Chowder" also & everything was so delicious & filling & so fresh plus the chips (french fries) was very tasty 😋 & I ❤️ always extra tart sauce with my fish & the servicer she had bought me 3 more serving so I was in tart sauce heaven & I put some on my chips! 🤤 & So before I forget the view is so freaking awesome & amazing from seeing everything out through the windows of the restaurant!!! It was our first time here but we will be back again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s & Thank You for making our day a very special one & a Great Job! 😎👍👍
This was a really great seafood joint right on the Marina water with a view of Morro rock, very, very cool staff. Great menu selection items and the food was way off the chart topped by maybe one of the best views on the planet with lots of wildlife in the ocean like seals and otters and sea lions. Boats and party people, right amongst all the cool shops, within walking distance of tons of hotels and shops and things to do. It got a grade A plus plus, And This entire area is very , very dog friendly, Oh yeah, and did I mention the view? And the sunset? that's worth coming almost as much as the food is.
Ocean side dining with a view of morro rock. Lunch prices are about ($25) for an entree. Salmon is not dry and overcooked. Rice pilaf pretty decent. Seafood quality isn't anything super amazing, just decent. The best is the view. Calamari is mediocre. But overall, the setting and atmosphere of the restaurant makes it worth it. Definitely the mussels are more worth it than the steamer clams.
I am from the Pacific Northwest, so I am pretty picky with my seafood, but this was pretty good for fish and chips. The atmosphere was great and cozy and I could tell that a lot of people have enjoyed having dinner over the decades here. The service was top-notch, and the location of course was perfect. I love their outdoor seating area. I also love their reef fish tank. Their bottles of wine are reasonably priced. We all had the fish and chips, so I was not able to try any of the other seafood dinners, but I am sure they would be tasty. We came on a Friday night in November and there was only a 20 minute wait. So that was nice. There’s plenty of seating while you wait. Or you can go into the cocktail bar lounge area while you wait.I absolutely love their purple cabbage coleslaw. I would come back here again and try one of their more expensive dinners, like scallops, or fish.
So, if anyone has been a tourist to a seaside restaurant knows, food sucks and is over priced, not this place, I promise. We really wanted clam chowder and there were so many options when looking around so we settled on this one just because! The Cajun shrimp tacos were superb and perfectly done, shrimps were large and cooked well without being rubbery. The portions were huge and the fries were delicious. The clam chowder bread bowl was solid and delicious, the bread bowl was excellent, crunchy crust without being super thick, and full of flavor. The soup itself was very solid just missing a certain flavor that I can’t put my taste buds on, but I would definitely order it again. It had lots of clam chunks and was very nice and creamy.
Smoked Shrimp Tacos with a yummy, slightly spicy sauce. Better than most shrimp tacos!! Very tasty. Fish and chips are crispy and fresh, always a delight. And then there's the friendly service and stellar view. Winner, winner awesome dinner! Uh...we had lunch, so it's munch, munch, awesome lunch? 😃

Late lunch sharing appetizers and fish and chips. The service was fast and friendly. What can be said about the ambiance...it's right on the water with an amazing view of Morro Rock.

Such a nice restaurant. Very laid back and relaxing while looking out the window at Morro Rock. The clam chowder in a bread bowl was delicious!! The perfect amount of potatoes and tender clams.

A hearty seafood restaurant with good service and great views. The dining room overlooks Morro Rock and the water so you can watch boaters and wildlife while you eat. They also have an impressive saltwater aquarium. All of the food is good, last time I visited I had a delicious rice pilaf and fish tacos completely loaded with toppings. Their clam chowder is also great.
This location has a wonderful view of the bay and a great interior. The fish, crab, and calamari definitely hit the spot. In general a great place for seafood. That said the hamburger that our non-seafood party member had was underwhelming, lacking seasoning. The service was also slow for so few dinners but otherwise great. Would definitely recommend for those who want a good seafood dinner but don't have picky eaters.
Very nice, right on the water excellent view out on to Morro Bay, excellent staff from the receptionist to the waitress down to the busboy, not in your face but friendly and getting the job done. Had the tuna salad sandwich, very good with generous slices of bacon, avocado, lettuce & tomato. Family friendly, casual, its an all round great spot. My new favorite restaurant on the water in Morro Bay! (Note: sandwich in the photo is only one half, yes it was big!)
The view of Morro Rock and the bay are beautiful! The food is good. The service was very accommodating and enjoyable.
The service was excellent. Caleb, our server, was attentive but not intrusive. He was very friendly, as were all of the staff. My shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the breading was superb. The scallops were delicious. The fish was good, though the pieces were a little small. The fries were cooked and seasoned nicely, even though they didn't offer garlic fries or sweet potato fries. I was able to get clam chowder instead of the cabbage salad for just a small upcharge, and the clam chowder was enjoyable. It wasn't as good as the clam chowder at Fin's in Pismo/Grover Beach, but it was still good. My dining companion had the lunch special of Cajun shrimp tacos. He said there could have been more shrimp, and there wasn't really anything Cajun about them, but he still liked them. He opted for the rice pilaf instead of fries, and he said it was really good rice pilaf. I really enjoyed the drink called "Hurricane George." The view of Morro Rock and the fishing dock was beautiful. All in all, we enjoyed our visit to this restaurant.
We came here for lunch about a week ago. They have set tables outside so you can “distance” and still enjoy a meal out. I ordered a Strawberry Fields drink, which I didn’t care for. It didn’t taste anything like strawberries but definitely had alcohol so that’s a plus. Depending on what you order and the weather, you have to eat relatively quickly or it’ll be cold. The calamari was good, but got cold so quickly due to wind, not the fault of the restaurant. He ordered oysters which he really enjoyed and the shrimp and chips. He will go back any day of the week and loved the food. I ordered the ahi, which was good, but I felt was a little over spiced. Ahi is typically good with very little seasoning, and I felt it was a little overbearing. Overall, it was a good meal with good portion size. For him, it would have been 5 stars. I would go back and try another item on their menu in the future! Wait staff was friendly, helpful, and timely.
Water views. Full bar. Fantastic staff. Prices are fair and atmosphere is delightful.
The Great American Fish Company is a nice seafood restaurant with a great view of Morro Bay and Morro Rock. The staff when we went was incredible. Front of the house was very friendly and our server was great. I liked all the decor inside. It was a fun place. The fish and chips were just not my favorite. They came a little thicker then I would have liked and not as crunchy. Overall it was still was a great experience.
It’s a very nice seafood restaurant. It wasn’t too busy but a big party just arrived before us thats why our food took longer. Very decent portions , flavorful plates with a very reasonable price. We ordered oysters, very fresh, clam chowder had their own touch , my kids loved it, fish and chips and king crab Mac and cheese were delicious!! Give it a try
Had a Pleasant Lunch at Great American Fish Company with Amazing Views of Morro Rock. Ordered the Clam Chowder, Fish Tacos and Mesquite Fish and Chips. All Three Items were delicious. Great Restaurant on the Water with Beautiful Coastal Views. The waitress was Friendly. Can't Wait to Try This Place for Dinner next Time.
Been coming here since I was a kid. Something about this place that has that nostalgic feeling. This steak and seafood restaurant never disappoints. With great views and great service. Whether you just in town for quick bite, or celebrating something special. I highly recommend this place. My family's favorite part is walking off that dinner in the harbor and listening to the sea lions. Great location. 😎👍🏼

I love this place most of the time! We go here yearly for a little tradition, but I don’t think we are going this year because of the way things went yesterday when we went to eat for dinner. I’m rating 3 stars still because every other time we’ve been it’s been amazing, and this was something that maybe couldn’t have been avoided but it could’ve been handled better. I went to dinner as a party of 8, and although food came out about quite a bit in, which no one was mad about, I still hadn’t received my food, and I didn’t until basically everyone around me was finished. The waitress, who was really sweet by the way, no complaints about her attitude, took 2 other tables orders and served a whole other table, one who had the same exact dish as me, before I got my food. When I got it, she apologized for the wait, which I feel we were way past that at this point,(and it wasn’t really to my taste either, which made me disappointed). Again, I don’t want to rate it bad because of this experience, so I’m just taking off two stars, and I hope no one else goes through what I had to, even if it’s not purposefully
This restaurant has the typical tourist trap vibe, like they'll never see you again. The prices are high and service is negligent. We had a party of five in for lunch. There were two other groups there including what seemed to be relatives of the owners or server. It took them over 30 minutes to get us a burger, two sandwiches and a grilled fish. The server never checked on us, refilled our water or updated us on the status of the food. We had to ask to have glasses refilled. On the food side, the grilled fish was tender and moist with solid mesquite flavor but the portion was small. The red cabbage salad is good.
Food was good, service ok. I don't like seating in the middle were everyone it's walking by, they wouldn't accommodate us somewhere alse because the other tables were for bigger parties but when I big partie came in they moved tables 🙄🤷 they could've just remove one table for us also to make it smaller 🤷 I wanted to seat next to the window. Not every day we get to have dinner by the ocean.
Delightful place in Morro Bay. Parking was easy to find. We were seated quickly and our server Cole made sure we were well taken care of in the booth. We ordered a lot of food to share. Portions: the portion sizes were good for steamed mussel and clams, pasta and cioppino. However the fried seafood was surprising. Ingredients: Our favorite dish was the steamed clams and mussels. It was super yummy. The shrimp in most of the dishes were great as well. The salmon was on the tough side. The crabs were on the smaller size as well. Mussels and clams were meaty. Price: Reasonable price. Would go back to try their steak because they have a wood fire grill. But there are also lots of other options in the area. One thing that did annoy me was how many times the busser kept on looking to take away plates. We clearly had not completed our meal but he was adamant on taking away our utensils so quickly that the waiter had just set down fresh utensils for dessert, the busser had taken the utensils away.
We came here with a group of six after trying to choose between Tognazzini’s and Harbor Hut. All three have plates around $30 for seafood, with some cheaper options available. Of the three, we chose Great American because a member of our group had tried it before. The view for all three is amazing, especially dining at sunset, as we did. We had a beautiful view of Morro Rock! The interior itself is nautically-themed with bright aquariums to draw diner’s attentions. It’s nice, though not quite as chic as Harbor Hut, or as dated as Tognazzini’s looked through the window. It was warm, which was lovely on a cool evening, though the smell of the lobby reminded me of the navy ships my father served on, rather than the seafood we were about to eat. Shark Bite Margarita My wife and I tried these! We were both happy with them, though they are pretty much just regular margarita mix with cranberry juice on top. We were more than happy to guzzle them and order a third to split. Not too alcoholic, but pleasant enough for an evening out with the family were you don’t want to get sloshed and say something stupid. Regular margarita My mother-in-law tried this and she wasn’t a fan. She found it over-iced and bland. Though famously teetotaling, she wanted to ask them to put more booze in it because she felt there was little to none. Cabbage Slaw This is their famous staple, sliced cabbage drenched in an oily vinaigrette. I was incredulous, as it came out as an exceedingly wet pile of purple. Though not something I find hugely exciting, it was lovely to eat, especially with the rich chowder. My mother-in-law found this salad very appealing, as the flavor was strong enough to penetrate her discerning palate. Clam Chowder This was the tables favorite and the hit of the night. We had tried the chowder at Sea Shanty in Morro Bay a day or so earlier and the bowl at the GAFCO was much better. It was rich and savory with generous portions of clam and potato. We finished ours and then finished her aunt’s because we found it so enchanting and she wasn’t paying much attention when we took it. Shrimp My father-in-law ordered this with a side of mixed veggies and pilaf. He was wholly satisfied with the shrimp and the pilaf, though we all agreed that the veggies were disappointing. They seemed to be freezer veggies that had been steamed and plated with little more aplomb or flourish to them. There was little to no discernible seasoning and a great deal of minuscule vegetable bits scattered beneath them. Mesquite Cod My mother-in-law and I tried this! She with fries and I with veggies. I thought the cod was delightful, with a sort of charcoaled smokiness I associate with hamburgers. My M-i-L found it exceeding bland, however. We both found that smothering it in tartar sauce invariably did the trick, though we would prefer a more seasoned fish rather than a fish flavored plate of tartar sauce. Sea bass My wife’s uncle, a man of few words, declared this dish to be “Delightful.” I could say more panegyrics, but it would not be so eloquent a review as his. Fried Cod My wife’s aunt had this with pilaf and was pleased. It did not seem overly greasy or offensive and she was satisfied with her meal. Salmon My wife loved this! She said the salmon had a simple lemon pepper seasoning on it and that the pilaf was buttery and paired well with the fish. Overall, this restaurant seems price more for the location than the cuisine. The food, while pleasant, erred on the side of cost effective simplicity rather than simpler, more flavorful dishes. Rather than using a freezer veggie mix or frozen steak fries, just steam fresh broccoli or bake potato wedges and season them. Rather than giving customers a handful of oily purple cabbage, present it more as a salad and less as a condiment. At this price point, one might expect them to present the food with more panache. I can understand they have a bottom line to meet and competition up and down the bayside, but I think these little touches might go a long way to improving the experience.
My friend ordered the skewer.. she thought it was small and not worth the $ 38. I had the scampi and that was about 6 shrimps.. no pasta but it was flavorful. My son had the ribeye steak at$41.00 and worth every cent. That was delicious.. one of the best yet. Server was nice n attentive.
Wanted to try the Cioppino here locally and it was pretty good. Over priced at $50. There are other places in San Luis Obispo that charge $35 and the quality is better. In fairness to Great American Fish Company there are quite a few other establishment that over price this dish as well. I will definitely go back and try another dish as it was decent Cioppino.
Great service, awesome seafood and a nice view. Yes it may be a little pricey. We requested a split check. There was something that couldn't be unnoticed. There was an old man, looks about 90, possibly the owner, pacing back and forth hovering around the tables like a buzzing drone. Never said a word but it was kind of awkward. We asked for a 3 way check and we all paid. We were barely a few feet away from the table, I look back and the old man dove to our table as soon as we started to walk away, and started questioning the waiter about the 3 way tickets for one table of 6 people. (3 couples). Or almost like making sure we didn't walk out without paying. There was a frustrated look on the waiters face. I walked back to the table and tipped the guy collecting the dirty dishes. The old man probably took it away from him. We will not go there again. Keep the old man in an office.
You are coming here for the location/view. Drinks were great. Food was greasy/saucy. Atmosphere is beautiful bc of the bay at sunset. The bar area is very small and felt very locals only vibe. Our sever was fine. There are quite of other options along the bay I will try elsewhere next time.
Been here before but my latest experience will have me looking elsewhere. The clam chowder was off, it lacked flavor, I peppered it like crazy to make it appealing. The mesquite fish and chips combo was okay. I did enjoy the smoky flavor but the fried fish was not that great. Fries were very salty, slaw was average. You can get this simple dish cheaper at the other local spots with a much more reasonable price. I wouldn't mind the price if only the quality was actually better. Service was okay, but the waitress was not fully attentive.
Came by for some dinner, and they have such a nice location - right on the water. We got seated by the window, and we got to watch the sunset. Beautiful.\n\nGood menu filled with different seafood …
service was great but the food was average for some of our group . I would recommend the fish and chips

Great location, bay side seating, and view of the Rock. Good service, reasonable prices, but the food wasn't that great. Clam chowder is average, fish n chips were rubbery. Great side salad!

Arrived at lunch not very busy. We were seat right way. Order was taken within a few minutes. We first had the steamer clams. The clams we very small and no favor including the broth just ve…
Starter was some lovely oysters and at only $12 dollars for 6 a bargain. But after that downhill. My main of red snapper was ok, slightly over cooked. But the sides of chips (limp and old) and cabbage salad ( small and virtually no dressing) were disappointing. My wife ordered the crab cocktail. This consisted, of white crab meat in ketchup, with a few bits of celery thrown in. Awful.
I have been eating here for the last 13 years ever since my wife and I first visited Morro Bay. In the past it has always been five stars and excellent. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has an ideal location right on the water and the food has been wonderful , especially the clam chowder which is the clam chowder that I have had that came really close to matching clam chowder back in Danvers Massachusetts. However; I am sad to say they have changed greatly...the restaurant is still beautiful and the staff were helpful and nice. But the food was terrible and priced as if it was high end. I ordered the fish and chips which literally looked and tasted like it came from a bag that they nuked in a microwave. I took one bite and just stopped. So I moved onto the Clam Chowder and this was the one that broke my heart....it had a weird smokey taste and tasted like paste.....very unfortunate. It seems the owner has opted for fast cheap food for a high end price. My wife ordered a salad and the chowder and did not finish hers either...the total bill was $100. The waiter nor the walking manager didnt even question it and took it away and never asked why we did not eat the food. I did not want to say anything because I have loved this place dor a long time and I understand its not their fault how the food turns out....this would have been a decision of the owner which seems especially bad since the town is starting to look run down and could be a dangerous sign of things to come for the future of Morro Bay. If you want to sit down in a beautiful place with a friendly staff then this is a great place but have very low expectations for the food itself.
The location offers great views as you sit and enjoy your meal. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating available, weather permitting. The restaurant has a welcoming feel and the staff was very friendly. There is no dress code and you come in as you are. The server was clear and offered great information on the plates. With his help I ordered the swordfish and my father ordered the mixed seafood skewer. Mine was delicious with generous portions. My fathers was also very good. The price is as expected for a vacation spot and seafood in general, both our plates were priced at $36. I ordered a whiskey sour with my meal, and wow, heavy on the whiskey...which I really appreciated😏. The parking is right outside their front doors and there is always available spots. The dock outside is nice place to wait, if there is a wait, and generally a nice hangout for the otter population. Overall a nice time at a nice restaurant. I shall be back again in the future. 1/18/25 update: Came in today while on vacation in the area. It was a disappointment. My gf had a bad feeling about the waitress, I didn't see it. She was right. The order was placed... 45 minutes later and a complaint, the food was finally brought out. The waitress essentially told us it was her fault for not placing the ticket at the window when the order was placed. Plenty of tables which came in after us ate, paid, and left before we received our food. For the $110 bill, I expected way more service or even a discount. Won't be returning.
Main issue was the clam chowder it tasted old and was super thick like it had been on the warmer for a very long time could not eat it my friend wanted a taste and you should have seen her face . i…
Terrible service. Sub par food. Place was empty and it took forever and it was not worth the wait. I will not eat here again. Was very disappointed.

I was so disappointed with our service. Our waitress was about to walk away without getting everyone’s drink order. We then had to ask for one of them: once we got our food we were never checked on. One of our meals came with fries that we didn’t get. Couldn’t even ask for them as no one came back by. Our waitress finally came back by but was so quick I couldn’t even ask about the fries. When our empty plates were picked up was when we could finally ask. Our waitress came back with our bill and didn’t apologize just simply asked if we still wanted them to go. There was a table in front of us and one behind us. She took the order of the table in front of ours, couldn’t even stop by to check on us, walked around empty tables to give the bill to the table behind us. With our bill I would’ve tipped minimum $60 however due to how poor our service was I really didn’t want to leave a cent. I did leave a very small tip. So disappointed
The small amount of food i got takeout four $33.55 taste good, but i feel ripped off. I really just wanted peices of salmon, but the lady said they only have the dinner so i order that, she said she would take off the sides and just give me fish so I'm assuming she's going to swap it out for extra fish but all i got was one serving of fish for over 30$!!!!!!!:( That's insane!!! If i had known that i would have just gotten the rest off the dinner. I want a refund!!!!!!
Half way through my dinner and I find a hair in my rice, when I showed the waiter right away he replied oh that's yours , no way it's ours because no one has longer hair in the kitchen, and then he became very very protective and positive it was my hair even though my hair is over two feet long and the hair i found was about 6 inches long , the waiter kept on and on on how it was mine , I told him not to worry I'm going to pay for my $150 dry steak and lobster plate which i did not eat after that oh and he did not receive a tip frome me and only got $20 from a table of 6 we will never eat there again , we were there 8 12 25 for lunch and the waiter was tall heavy and had a beard and his service was bad that's why he works lunch because you can't have people like him for dinner shift .
Ordered the Mexicans Shrimp cocktail Was given no chips no avocado in a very tiny bowl that I ordered to go. The worst thing I paid $23 for. And the shrimp taste frozen.
The best part of this restaurant is the view of Morro rock and the little bay where you can see sea lions and otters. However, the food was honestly disgusting. I’ve never said that about a place I’ve reviewed. $19 fish and chips on the lunch menu and they were HORRIBLE. Cold, chewy, and fishy. The fries were soggy and cold. Most the people at my table wasn’t happy with their meals either except those who got the clam chowder, they said that was good. I would have asked for a replacement meal—but our server didn’t check on us once even though we were the only table in the place. Overall—I would not return and recommend you find another place to dine.
Came in after seeing the sea lions and otters. We sat at the bar to order two clam chowders and my husband asked what's one the crowd favorites on the menu and the female blonde bartender responded I serve alcohol not food. With that- that's our 1 star review. Usually our bar experiences are great elsewhere. Maybe grab a table instead.
Bought lunch fish-and-chips for almost $25 and received one piece of fish cut in 3 pieces. One was the size of a McDonald's chicken nugget and the largest piece was the size of half of a piece of what you should have received that was the largest of the 3 pieces. I guess moral to the story is, do not get your food to go or they will give you almost nothing for your money.
