Opinions de The Rock Espresso Bar Morro Bay
We enjoyed this eclectic spot in Morro Bay. The food and coffee were great and all three of our kids found something to eat for breakfast. The ambiance was very nice and they were welcoming to our dog. We enjoyed it so much that we came back later for a snack.
Best coffee in town and second to absolutely no one. Fresh pastries coming out of the oven since 6 am though he is open at 5 a.m. on the days he works ( the owner). I love the atmosphere food and service here but mostly I like to call this my home away from home. The patio is excellent and they are dog lovers so come catch a fancy cup of whatever it is your sweet tooth desires or get yourself the best cup of Joe you ever had in your life. I heard the burrito and sandwiches are very good as well
Great coffee for my long drive to Independence. I was grateful for the positive vibes and the greeting: “Another day in Morro Bay.” Classic.
Rudy’s Rock is a rocking good way to start your day. The coffee is as smooth and delicious as the baristas (my Mexican mocha was the perfect mix of heat and not too sweet) and freshly baked from scratch pastries and quiches oh so tasty. Thanks for the great start to our day in beautiful Morro Bay Rudy’s! Until next time….
Favorite locally owned coffee house to visit. Breakfast burritos are excellent as well as the baked goods. If you’re really lucky, you get served by Rudie himself. Never disappointed when we visit.
Amazing “locals” place 1/2 block up from hotel row. The fresh homemade quiche was delicious. The expresso was smooth not bitter. The staff made you feel like a local even if your just visiting. Check out their backyard for a relaxing experience. The price tag was a phenomenal value.
We had a wonderful breakfast here on our way out of Morro Bay! The gentleman at the counter was extremely friendly, suggested the black bean and chorizo quiche (which was delicious), and even gave us alternate driving directions for a more scenic route to our destination, which we were grateful for. They have a lot to choose from and plenty of seating with a nice little outdoors area to enjoy. I would absolutely come back when I’m back in the area!
Cozy vibes and really friendly service! We met the new owner and he's so kind. Talked with us for a good while, despite us only being visitors. The coffee was delicious and my mom is normally very picky. This was one of the best espressos she's had in a while. Go enjoy some!
5 plus stars. I read reviews before eating here. I read they had a great blended iced mocha, and it's true! It's so good! I had the rock burrito and it's fresh made, hot, and yummy, it's my new favorite. Staff is super friendly l, attentive and the seating in the back is cute. I will definitely come back. This place is awesome.
I'm a lifetime local and this is the ONLY coffee shop I go to. Rudy's warm and fun personality, coupled with an awesome staff, amazing coffee and a comfortable atmosphere, make this the best place to get coffee or a bite in town. I promise you won't regret it!
Great coffee, awesome coffee cake! Great place to sit outside, meet with friends & have some coffee ☕. It's not on the main drag, so not much foot traffic noise to deal with. Dog friendly & really good customer service. If you're looking for a place to just get away form the Morro Bay Street crowds, Rock Espresso is it
Great place, nice local vibe. The Lattes were very good. Cant talk about the food because after standing in line for 25 minutes for coffee, I was told it would be another 25 minutes for two burritos. The place is small. We happened to get there right at Sunday morning rush and there were only two people working. If there is a line, its going to take awhile. But they did call for backup. Definitely going back, as long as the line is small. Nice folks doing their best.
Good coffee. Friendly atmosphere. I made a new friend. I also met a dog here - when I asked what her name was, she said, "Woof woof." Rudie shared a joke with me, and I politely laughed. When I got home and told my wife the joke, she REALLY laughed and said, "That's good!" Thanks for an interesting visit. 😃
The coffee and hot chocolate were amazing. The owner is fun to talk to and joke with. If you like a little abuse the staff is more than willing to give it to you in all the best ways. We will most definitely be back the next time we are in town.
Rudy is awesome. I was just passing through morro bay super early and happened to see his little coffee shop open at 5am! I had a few cappucinos and we had a great time just chatting about work and life. Very welcoming atmosphere and staff. Highly reccomend this intimate little spot, it was clearly a locals favorite in morro bay.
While visiting Morro Bay we visited both Scout Coffee and Rudie’s Rock but preferred Rudie’s. It’s not as corporate feeling and the service was much friendlier. You can tell this is the local favorite for a reason. The outdoor patio is adorable and very comfortable. We had a quiche and a pastry both were excellent.
Met the owner, Rudie. Very friendly and helpful. Very cool art on the walls from local artists.
Great place to stop for a taste of the hood. Makes you feel like you are a local customer. Will come back !
Hands down the best breakfast burrito in town. 👏🏼👏🏼 Rudie and staff are always in jolly mood too.
I just moved to Morro Bay and I’ve made this place my regular coffee place. The women who work here are super friendly and hilarious if you listen to them banter back and forth. The coffee is fresh and amazing and you MUST try the blueberry muffin! Also the Honey Cinnamon Vanilla Latte is amazing! They welcomed me to town with open arms and I feel like a regular even though I just started coming here.
This place truly ✨ Rocks ✨ I grew up in San Clemente and this place reminds me of the vibe when I was younger being a really lovely place. Great food. Great service and crew. Support local always!
We were staying across the street visiting from Las Vegas and this place was amazing. We went every morning while we were there and enjoyed it every time. The staff was great and super nice. We got great recommendations on things to do while we were at Morro Bay. The coffee is great and food is delicious. This is the kind of place that makes you want to move away to so that it can become your regular spot. We plan on going back to Morro Bay regularly and this will continue to be our breakfast spot every time. Thanks for making our vacation amazing!
Tremendously Flavorful Bites, Well Executed Brew, Incredible Coffee Sourcing, Care and Attention Shown, Cassandra is an Ace barista friendly and efficient.
Perfect spot for relaxing cup of coffee and breakfast. People are super nice.
We got breakfast here this morning. The burritos were delicious, and so was the coffee. The barista was very nice! Beautiful garden.
Tried the Jumper Cables cold coffee, very tasty drink large size. Rudie super nice and chill. Can tell he cares about his customers and employees.
Very nice vibes, the owner is super kind and the coffee and food was really good too! It has a super cute little patio :)
Rock Espresso Bar has an amazing vibe with a cozy ambiance and a great outdoor patio. We tried the honey vanilla cinnamon latte and the Mexican mocha, and both were absolutely perfect. The breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich were also prepared to perfection—fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. This place is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Morro Bay!
Had a great breakfast this morning and would highly recommend. Had some really helpful travel advice about the closure of the PCH and how to make the most of the journey. Class.
I only got a Mexican coffee, but it was the best one I've ever had! Not too sweet Their sandwiches look good, and included a vegetarian option. Based goods looked yummy, and there was a gluten - free brownie. The art work of the Rock was pleasant, and there's outdoor seating in the back. Service was good, and she was very friendly. I'll return for food sometime when I'm in Morro Bay!
Smooth tasting coffee and very delicious mixed berry Danish. I live in Arizona and can't stop thinking of this place. I was there one month ago. The service was phenomenal as well.
My husband and I were on a weekend get away and my best friend told me to run to this spot in the morning. Boy was I glad we did, I got a Mexican mocha which was sooo good!! My husband got an Americano and we both got their home made quiches. Omg the quiches came with fresh Avocado and salsa it was absolutely delicious and perfect for the morning!! We will be returning for sure!! The ladies at the front were very sweet, we are definitely going back the next time we're in town!!!
Wow!!! We stumbled upon a gem of a Java place and its owner Rudie. The personality on both this cozy little establishment and the man himself is a bonus to the already delicious muffins and coffee cakes. My latte was hot and each sip was a pleasure. Truly a pleasure to have found ourselves in this coffee house…go here and look no further to either sit inside or in the pretty garden out back. 😎💕 ☕️ Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
A must-go in Morro Bay!!! Rudie and everyone working at Rock Espresso were a wonderful surprise on a Saturday morning. The food and coffee are fantastic (I recommend the Mexican mocha). Rudie gave recommendations for the rest of our stay and made us feel welcome in Morro Bay.
The employees at Rudie's, including Rudie himself, were more than friendly and helpful. I heard them engage with all customers and be quite helpful in suggestions concerning the Morro Bay area. The food was exceptional and accented wonderfully by an excellent salsa.
The atmosphere was wonderful. It was cozy, warm and homey, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The food was delicious and the coffee is the best in town. They go the extra mile if you ask them too. If I had one word to explain the place it would be quality.
Great latté and good atmosphere. Rudie is always such a happy, bubbly guy to greet your groggy, pre-caffinated self. Dog friendly too!
Me and my sister stopped in for a little breakfast and coffee while on vacation. The staff were great and so funny and the cafe was so cute! We got a vanilla latte with oat milk which was so perfect and I got the bagel breakfast sandwich, it was so good! I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area!
Truly excellent coffee in a cool, unassuming , old-fashioned shop! Rudie is a stealth high end barista! You’ve got to give it a try.
Great vibes in here along with superb coffee and food. Rudie is a super cool dude with a passion for food and coffee and it shows. Our new go to spot when we visit Morro Bay.
The Killer Blueberry Muffins were still hot from the oven and so good. The coffee is amazing. The garden area in the back is super peaceful. I love the art work on the walls and the guys making the coffee make you feel right at home. I got coffee here every single morning on my trip. It was a great way to start each day. This place is awesome 🙂
I was delightfully surprised at the lovely vibe and delicious quiche muffin. I popped in originally because I was hoping for a little snack and a little caffeine pregame before meeting up with a couple of friends. I don't know if it's changed owners in the past couple of years, but something about it has definitely changed for the better. I love that they make their food in house. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town 💕
Was out first time there. We were actually going to get a breakfast sandwich at a different place, when the owner recommended Rudy's Rock espresso. We weng and are sooo glad we did !! Ordered the BEST breakfast sandwich on a bagel I've ever had ! And a frappe, the owner was there. And said hi....really cool, down to earth dude 😎, with a Mohawk! 🤙 If your in the area ! Do yourself a favor and try him out ! You won't be disappointed!! Oh! Can't forget about their salsa!! It's the BEST ! I promise you!!
Talk about solid food and great coffee. The burrito was amazing and the salsa is better than most Mexican restaurants I've been to. The coffee was smooth and they make a great decaf americano (so my wife says) will definitely be by again and is worth getting off the freeway just to get breakfast.
The ladies taking orders and making the food were so kind and friendly. The poppy seed muffin was delicious, their baked goods were freshly made! We got the burritos and were hesitant since it seemed like too much in one breakfast burrito. But it was the best breakfast burrito ever. Wanted to order another! Also their outdoor patio is very lovely to unwind and hang with pals.
Excellent place. The service is always good, and even when it’s busy they get your order out quickly. The coffee is my personal favorite. And it’s just a nice place to relax. Good breakfast burrito btw. Will happily return
Amazing cold brew! The coffee cake was delicious, and my daughter enjoyed her hot coco! Great vibes, and the owner is super nice.
Was passing through on a little road trip. Best fricken coffee shop, and the owner has the best customer service I’ve ever seen!
Such an awesome cafe. First off the coffee is great! Second, Rudie was so wonderful. He made us feel so at home in Morro Bay, telling us about all of the best places in and around the area. We took him up on his recommendations around Cambria and have not been disappointed! Definitely stop in here for a coffee. You won’t be disappointed!
Third time at Rudies Rock Espresso… great every time! Rudie (the owner) is awesome… so friendly and hospitable. The coffee is great. The back patio is awesome. As a Morro Bay local, I HIGHLY recommend this place! Looking forward to my next Mexican Mocha! Keep up the good work, Rudie!
Great coffee, great service! Nice interior & soft reggel music. Give the ham&turkey quiche a chance!! It’s served with salsa and avocado slices: delicious!!! Not cheap, but worth the wait and it’s price. We shared one as a 2nd breakfast. Tables outside (in the inner yard) were not too clean, so We rather headed back inside.
Great find! So glad we wandered here. The coffee was bold and flavorful without any bitterness, our breakfast quiche was packed with delicious bits of cheese, sausage, black beans and onions - the salsa…should be bottled and sold. Cute place with a fun garden in back. Owner is personable and fun. It won’t disappoint!
As you step into the door you're greeted with a hello from Rudie, and just all around good vibes! many coffee selections and food, and the atmosphere inside and outside patio area is beautiful with greenery and color. Cool, chill, relaxing vibes! Tried the Rude Dawg signature coffee, delicious! Thank you Rudie for the awesome service, very welcoming! We'll be back💓
If you want a taste of friendly Morro Bay hospitality with top notch coffee, go visit Rudie! He's incredibly nice and knowledgeable if you're visiting the area. The establishment is clean with a great coffee house vibe. And the coffee itself is superb! We will definitely be back next time we are up here. (Highly recommend the Mexican mocha!)
I've been on holiday in the US for a week so far and haven't had a good coffee until I stumbled across Rudies. Barnstaple made coffee was excellent, service friendly, great atmosphere.
Had breakfast here the past 2 mornings, and it's been fantastic both times! We've had the burrito, the sandwich (on the everything bagel and the parmesan bagel), the coffee cake, and the monkey bread muffin...all were scrumptious! And, as Food Network has taught me, you eat with your eyes first...and this place delivers on that too! The staff is super perky and friendly, and very helpful. We enjoyed our meals there and will definitely be back!
I absolutely recommend this place to all tourists for breakfast and more! They offer a wide variety of muffins, beverages, sandwiches, wraps and so on. Definitely try their pumpkin loaf which was amazing with moist cake inside and well baked crust outside. The bagels sandwiches were nice as well. Their banana muffins and triple berry nut muffins were yum too. The burrito was not a great pic. The staff are very friendly and patient. The ambiance was great with a garden area in the back.
An awesome local spot for delicious coffee & breakfast. The staff was super friendly & made our morning! It has a cute garden in the back, it was our favorite stop so far!
Updated Review Summer 2025 I did not think Rudie could improve the "Party in a Cup" drink but he did, oh my goodness!!! Are you having a bad day, this place will make it sweeter, are you having a great day, this place will help you celebrate are you just looking for an amazing cup of coffee, yummy treat or someplace to make you feel welcome this is where you want to be! And to make it extra amazing ask for "Party in a Cup" Initial Review More than coffee, food, conversation this must stop place in Morro Bay will be a highlight of your day! I did not know what I wanted but described to Rudie my ideal drink and he created something amazing! I literally wanted to cut the cup apart when I finished it just to get every drop. It was like a party in a cup! If you want something to add a smile to your day stop by and ask for a "Party in a Cup" but beware once you try it, you will want one every day. The food is all so yum, but the gluten free coffee cake, oh my goodness! You will want to savor every bite of this delicious treat. If you are new in town or just passing through Rudie can guide, you to the best spots to check out and how to get there. Seriously if you are in Morro Bay and don't stop by you will be missing out.
Chef Rudie is one of a kind. He is very gentle, funny and his food is amazing und pretty delicious. I highly recommend that you stop there!
Amazing service and delicious bagels, coffee. This place seemed like a hit with locals. The owners were so welcoming and warm. Amazing space to chill, relax and hangout with friends. Nice interior sitting with a great patio at the back with charming decor. I will be returning here on my next visit to Morro. Thank you, loved it!
Rudie's, The Rock espresso, I think they make the best coffee in Morro Bay. My favorite is a Breve Latte. And their pastries are hand-made daily from scratch. We had a blue berry muffin and strawberry coffee cake.

I was on vacation in Morro Bay. Very cool dude who runs this place with sense of humor. Had a "rude dude" and matcha latte, wonderful. The rock breakfast sandwich was also just what the doctor ordered.
As a tourist, skip the hotel coffee and stop in here for coffee and a muffin. First time in, I had the sausage and egg muffin. 2nd time, had the triple berry. Both time the iced espresso was just the ticket. And, some great directions for where to walk on a foggy morning. ❤️ it was perfect.
Great space, even better people. From the patrons while entering to Rudie at the counter, everyone there was friendly. What a great way to start the morning. The espresso was tasty, made just as it was supposed to. Even better was the vibe and atmosphere. Rudie is a great guy. Made me laugh, offered some quick local hikes to take our little dog and even offered some good restaurants to visit when we were in Santa Barbara. A must visit if you are in Morro Bay, Rudie and his space will make your day.
Went here last week, staff was all really nice and most customers seemed to know each other well! The owner is really friendly, expressive, passionate, and knows the area really well. Me and a friend were taking a trip to Morro bay, and he gave a great suggestions on a trail to hike. This place also had really good Frapes, much better than chains in my opinion. I would most certainly go back if I was in the area!
Good coffee but really it is the team that work here and the owner. Great people, super friendly and really cool. There is some real talent in the kitchen and Rudy is a great guy and is a good guy to chat with. Maybe you can get him to play some music for you.
A Cali must visit if you truly want to feel the vibe. Rudy is central California. Vibrant, funny, cool, welcoming. Killer breakfast burrito! Not your average offer. Just the right amount of avo, with hints of one spice, then another as you travel through the burrito. Don't leave without discussing the power of a band's rhythm section, local art, or how Rudy met his wife. Your day will be better for it.
Dropped in on Christmas Eve morning...really friendly welcome by the proprietor and his co-host. Excellent Cafe au lait and savory quiche. The Kentucky cake bars were out of sight. Family recipe...delicious. Grabbed a couple to go after downing the first. The vibe of the place is one that comes of good fun life energy.

I love this place and always have. Best breakfast burrito you’ll find anywhere. My cappuccino this time was so bitter and nasty I poured it out. My friend’s latte wasn’t much better. Cherry coffee cake is fantastic.
I chose this coffee shop after reading all of the dog friendly reviews. I went yesterday and asked for a pup cup and got a little cup of whipped cream with bacon! It was the best pup cup I had ever seen. I came back the next day because of how much my dog loved it and was told they “can’t do those anymore” even though I just got one yesterday. Very disappointing, I would have rather been charged $1 rather than not given one at all. They did offer a treat instead, but they’re just milk bones that we have at home, nothing special. If you want to remain a dog friendly joint, I suggest fixing this somehow. Maybe offering them at a small cost? If cost is the problem?
PROS + Nice windows that make the place feel open and bright + Easy menu with a solid selection of beverages and food + They also have non-caffeinated beverages in a fridge (juices, La Croix, Canada Dry, etc) + Funky, local artwork on the walls (for purchase I believe) + Super adorable, bubbly and friendly barista. + They also have a back patio/garden which is great when the weather is nice. Lots of lush greenery which makes it feel like a nice getaway from Main St. + Decent amount of seating and outlets, great for people working on laptops + Strong, reliable, free wifi -- the password changes often so you'll have to reconnect whenever you return. + Nice sidewalk seating out front which is great for taking an afternoon coffee/tea break. + Music is played at a very nice volume that isn't disruptive to working or conversations. Don't you just hate it when music is blaring at a cafe? CONS - Awkard, narrow, and cramped single-stall restroom. But at least it's decently clean and well maintained! - The patio has two trash bins that were filled to the brim, causing the patio to be swarming with flies. - Outlets on the patio did not work, so working outside had time constraints on laptops - The barista was a little spacey (albeit super friendly) and messed up my drink order but I enjoyed my latte regardless of the fact that it wasn't what I ordered. We also asked her for no lids on our drinks (twice), and she also forgot both times. It happens! We're all human. I have those days too!
Disappointing Coffee Experience at Rudie's Rock Espresso We recently visited Rudie's Rock Espresso while traveling on CA-1, enticed by its positive reviews and picturesque setting. Upon arrival, we were delighted by the charming ambiance and the beautiful backyard garden, which promised a pleasant coffee break for our group of four. However, the quality of the coffee was extremely poor. From the first sip, it was clear that something was wrong. The coffee had a distinctly unpleasant taste, likely due to a combination of bad beans, poor brewing technique, or a group head that hadn’t been cleaned in ages. As someone who appreciates good coffee and respects the effort that goes into making it, I typically finish what I order. Unfortunately, this coffee was undrinkable, and I couldn't get past the first few sips. Despite the coffee's poor quality, the staff were a redeeming feature. The two women working behind the counter were super polite and courteous. It's possible we caught them on a bad day, but the coffee was undeniably subpar. In summary, while Rudie's Rock Espresso offers a lovely atmosphere and friendly service, the coffee was a major disappointment. I hope they can address these issues, as the location has great potential. Until then, coffee enthusiasts might want to look elsewhere for their caffeine fix.
