First time at this location. Holy cow the fajitas are amazing! They are soft, succulent and the tortillas are fresh made. The price is right, the ambiance is good and the waitstaff is friendly and warm. Our server Laura, was funny and engaging. Definitely a place to go for a good meal.
Classic Tex Mex to the core. We love their chips and salsa, beef fajitas, margaritas, and rice/beans. Their success over the past 20+ years has always hinged on fresh ingredients and top-level service.
This is my daughter's favorite Restaurant! We order all the time and the food is great! If you order to go they will give you a lot of chips and Salsa so you can enjoy at home!!!
A group lunch of about 15 people. Our server was attentive to our drink needs. All of our separate orders came at the same time!
Johnny Tamales in Pasadena never disappoints, and today just sealed the deal. I had their fajita burrito, smothered in queso – and let me tell you, when that warm queso melts into the Spanish rice… that’s a little taste of Texas heaven right there. The fajita meat was tender, seasoned just right, and the red beans had that authentic home-cooked flavor that reminds you of Sunday lunch at grandma’s. The staff was friendly, service was quick, and the atmosphere has that fun, local Pasadena vibe that keeps you coming back. As a local REALTOR® and Google Local Guide, I’m always out exploring great spots in our community – and Johnny Tamales is absolutely one of my go-to places for quality, comfort, and flavor. If you’re in the Pasadena area and craving true Tex-Mex, this spot hits all the marks. Five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 — supporting local never tasted so good!
The food, service and atmosphere at this restaurant we're absolutely phenomenal in my opinion. I had lunch at 1:30 on Friday and the atmosphere was very calm and laid back as you would imagine around that time frame. We sat at the corner booth by the window in the bar area which turn down to be the perfect spot. I decided on the spinach and chicken enchiladas with extra rice on the side and it was absolutely delicious. The clientele around the bar started to pick up around 2:00, 2:30 which is what is to be expected and everyone seemed very lively and cheerful. This was a wonderful experience and I will definitely be visiting again!
It was my Nana’s 70th birthday today! The restaurant had an amazing private room and buffet, George was fast and responsive. Definitely a moment to remember for my family and my Nana.
Johnny Tamales in Pasadena really delivered! We came in with a big group of 29 people, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The staff stayed on top of everything — drinks were refilled quickly, orders came out right, and the food was hot and fresh. You could tell they cared about making sure our whole group had a great experience. Everyone left happy and full. It’s not easy to handle a crowd that size, but they nailed it. We’ll definitely be back!
And another one to add to your list! The is watermelon margarita was the delicious 😋 Then they had the nerve to put watermelon ice cubes!! Hands down the best margarita I have EVER had 10/10! Oh yeah the food was delicious. Combo fajitas were bussing! Our Bartender Crystal was attentive and made great recommendation. It's a quick drive from Houston in Pasa "Getdone" dena. Don't forget your stretchy pants 😁
I love the beef tacos here. The chips a d salsa is great with the thin chips. Not too spicy and has the cilantro kick. OK service, bill was messed up. See deer left to "fix" but hadn't returned for awhile so we waited longer than we wanted to. Good AC,I was shivering cold (tend to be sensitive to cold). For the most part the service was good and prompt.
Johnny Tamales has a Texmex vibes and atmosphere. We were sifted immediately and asked about drink orders. Their bar is not well stocked, required me to substitute my choices twice and the substitute was well below expected quality. Our orders were quick and the food was great. But we needed to ask for utensils and napkins inorder to eat. We found overall service was lacking.
I’ve been coming to Johnny Tamales for about five years once in a while when I get the chance to, and have always enjoyed the food and appreciated the hardworking staff. However, I’ve consistently noticed unprofessional behavior from the manager, and during my most recent visit he was loud, disrespectful, and unnecessarily demanding toward employees creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. Throughout my visits I had no issues with the servers and bartenders, they would be very polite and bring great service. I overheard that the manager may be the owner’s son, Bailey, and if that’s the case, I strongly urge the owner to address the issue. The team deserves respectful leadership, and the current management is clearly falling short.
Just along Sam Houston Parkway you can I'll find this Tex Mex cantina. It is a chain of at least 2 locations, and it's a solid spot for work lunch, happy hour, family dinner, date night, etc. It terms of Tex Mex it is so-so. The meals are good, but we live in Houston where you can find so many incredible Tex Mex, Mexican, and fusion restaurants. The restaurant is inviting and vibrant on the outside, but somewhat dim and less inviting on the inside. Also, the service was on point, but our server wasn't particularly upbeat or pleasant. I will say that their lunch menu is fairly impressive, and the portions will leave you wondering if you accidentally ordered from the dinner menu. Also, they come by to check on drinks, chip baskets, and salsas which is nice so you don't have to feel bad asking for more. Some tips: Try the green sauce, it's delicious. It's a creamy green salsa, and if you ask for more they will most likely bring one for each person at the table. And on Tuesdays it's Fajita Tuesday where you can get mixed fajitas for two for $32.99 (normally $38.99). Also, there's a self serve soft serve (tongue twister) ice cream station at the door. Help yourself to a little complimentary dessert on your way out. Cheers!!
Came with family for dinner. Our waiter was great very attentive and got our order right. We received our food not too long after we ordered. I ordered the chile relleno with rice and black beans. It was good. The chile needed seasoning but overall good. Hubby had the sampler which was also good. Mother in law has the stuffed avocado with rice and charro beans. She said it was good but that the beans tasted like they were canned but overall good. We always enjoy the free ice cream on the way out.
Our server was attentive and great! The flautas were pretty good, the Chile relleno however was soggy, extremely greasy and flavorless. So mushy that you wouldn't need teeth to eat it. and the rice was also flavorless. The music was way too loud to have decent conversation. The charro beans were good at least. It was our first time here but most likely won't be back.
This was my first and probably my last visit. Unfortunately, the fajitas were served cold at first, and the chicken was undercooked. The staff did fix the issue, but the flavor of the meat still wasn’t very good. I appreciate their effort, but I definitely prefer Jimmy Changas.
I been gettin food for some years always for to go and I really like the enchiladas but lately I been notice the chips very very thin and the salsa so watery especially the green one , today I order some food and I just notice that the restaurant charges me a to go fee ????!! Since when they start doing that !? , very disappointed about that ……
I was sitting at the bar at Johnny’s today and honestly didn’t expect what happened. Two parents came in asking to speak to the manager, Bailey, about how their daughter (who works there) has been treated. They were talking to staff about issues they’ve had with him, but he never came out to talk to them. It was uncomfortable to watch and kind of ruined the vibe. As a customer, it definitely made me question how employees are treated here.
I was at Johnny's, as a guest expecting a normal dinner when two parents came in asking for the manager, Bailey, about how their daughter who is an employee, has been treated. The parents approached the staff and described bailey as unprofessional ands disrespectful towards employees. Despite this, Bailey never came out to address them or attempt to de-escalate the situation leaving the staff to handle it instead, what kind of manager hides in their office for something like this? it is very unprofessional. As a guest, I was very concerned. The situation made me worry of the well being of this employee involved, an I o not feel comfortable supporting this kind of establishment that appears to treat their employees this way.
Inappropriate staff on top of that they got my order wrong twice I asked for one order flour and fajita, the other chicken and fajita. They give me corn tortilla. I get home start eating thinking everythings good now.. nope I have a mix of chicken chunks and fajita chucks in my taco.. after going over my order nearly 10 times because they didn’t really wanna remake the food.. I don’t understand how y’all still managed to give me the wrong order. Honestly.. Foods good when you actually get what you asked for.
10/4/25. The managers need to be fired. They had no staff on a sat, place was pretty empty but the manager made sure we knew she was a manger had to help out the waitress. All our food came out wrong and cold about an hour after we ordered. The assistant manager said "well what did you order". No apology no nothing. Never again. Jimmy changes all the way, this knock off is trash.
