Perfect dark place to get drunk for cheap. Don't complain.
Really enjoyed it there, students choice. Watch Yankees there.
Cheap beers a good spot to have great time
Awesome place to hangout, especially if you are columbia student
Choice selection of high quality and rare Miller Lites
The only bar on campus worth 5 stars
Great service, excellent atmosphere
Allways a good time for me alot of stuff in there and the are to do
Great trendy crowd and a fantastic place for sports
Great Dive Bar. Unofficial Columbia University Bar.
It's cool place to meet with new people..
Was made to feel really welcome, great little bar with a big choice of drinks for cheap prices.
Can't ask for more in a bar: good music, awesome bartender, a pool table, and unbeatable drink prices.
Just watched dude skip passed Pinapple Express, Step Brothers, and the Wedding Singer channel changing. Good drinks though.
Super chill bartender- great service and drinks shoutout Jasper
If you don't like crowd, avoid weekends. If you are okay then it's a lit place, might as well get free drinks :p jk.
Great dive bar, cheap drinks, but watch out, past 10pm it gets packed with undergrads (can be annoying for anyone over the age of 30).
Gotta love the dive bar and outdoor seating, free chips and salsa was a plus.
I’ve been going here since I was a student at Columbia over 20 years ago. Still great.
Nice bar. Good beer and music. Cheap beer in a nice place.
Miller lites so good they had to call the supplier! Would recommend to a friend.
This bar was amazing! Loved the atmosphere and Tim was amazing 😊. Great corner bar!
Cheap drinks, a pool table & a block away from my place. Perfect!
Great nieghborhood place to have a drink..play pool or even watch a movie!
Nice place and people, and more affordable than most bard in manhattan.
Awesome bar tell ema I said whatsup!!! She needs to work on her 8 ball shot!! Lmao jk
Very nice bar. Tuesday are trivia night.
Good times. Rather small though, very tight space, but nice ambience
Maine Timmy, Aussie Tim and Alex <3 Please never change. Pleasekickouttheundergrads.
No frills college dive bar known for its strong drinks.
Cheap drinks, good crowd, pool table... What's not to love?
Favorite bar in the city. Half-off Moscow mules are the best. Alex, the bartender, was great, even when it got swamped. My group got super drunk and chatty and he was awesome.
Tasty and cheap frozen cocktails. Our bartender Tim was absolutely the best, very funny and attentive. Would recommend!!!!
1020 is a landmark. Great place for a cheap beer and a great atmosphere on weeknights and outside of the school year. One of Columbia student's most popular bars on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the school year.
The 1020 bar gets five out of five stars because of it's ability to be what it claims to be. Chai drinks, cool ambience, and outstanding service. I plan on going back during trivia night
Great neighborhood bar It's changed since the previous owner left
It's a great dive bar. I don't know how else to sell it beyond the fact it's a dive bar. It has good beer and liquor, a pool table and darts. It's a great dive bar.
Cozy local bar. Lowest drink prices in Manhattan, IMHO. Quiet in the daytime. Open 4pm to 4am. Dress code after 10pm.
Spent two lovely late afternoons here in a December two years ago. I am so relieved it’s still up and running, open for business for my return on 7/9. Looking forward to spending several evenings there!!
My personal living room. 1020 is the perfect dive bar! The most amazing staff and crowd, and my go-to place any night of the week.
Great UWS neighborhood bar. Darts and pool table. Mixed age crowd including Columbia students.
1020 is the local watering hole for Columbia graduate students. Cheap drinks, (mostly) friendly service, convenient location, random movies playing on the projector and good music in the background.
Quality bar with a pool table and large projection screen, gets packed in the later evening hours but is easy going until after dinnertime.
Fantastic. For people who like bars, this is a great bar.
This bar does what it does, and doesn't try to be anything else. It's a straightforward dive bar with a pool table, darts, and cranky-friendly bartenders serving a decent selection of cheaper-than-anywhere-nearby beer. If that's what you're after, you can't do better than 1020. Although beware undergrad hordes...
Amazing bar with excellent drinks, great music, and a lively atmosphere. Staff was professional and friendly.
Amazing atmosphere, Tim the barman was very warm and friendly and the service was perfect. This was exactly what we needed on our trip, a dimly lit bar with good beer
Really cool bar, great bartenders, chill fun pool scene and a great mix of different people. Best bar in the neighborhood
Classic dive with a pool table. Cheap drafts, good drinks. Not much else to it.
I love ittt hereeeeee. The bartenders are super nice & the drinks are strong
I met my husband here over 20 years ago, and I honestly thought 1020 would be long gone, replaced by a more polished, trendy NYC bar. I'm so happy to see it's still the same, and I can’t wait to go back!
Phenomenal bar. Real character and class. Local joint that mixes together undergrads, grad students, locals, and always drags in a couple stray tourists. The bartenders are lively, each has real personality - if you’re there early you’ll meet one guy who’s a little too drunk but that’s ok. Beer is 7-8, margs are good too. Pool table and darts keep things fresh. Could go and drink and talk for hours 10/10
I visit this place pretty often after work or out with friends. Overall pretty relaxed environment, bartenders are attentive & generally in a good mood. Asked the bartender on Monday to make me a Moscow Mule (Not on their menu) and they made me one of the best Moscow Mules I’ve had in a long time. Will come back again :)
Love this bar it is the best place to go to after a dinner. Bartender is very nice and social, makes me want to stay longer for the hospitality. His name is Alex. Drinks are classic house and have a pool table, so it’s a good spot to go to for fair drink prices and pool.
Super low key bar. Has a pool table which is dope. Bartender cute too. If you see a tall gorgeous dark skins female ask for the bartender special. It's a sweat and light drink mixed with some juice and malibu. (Mind you not an official drink)
Great drinks for a great price.. esp the watermelon margaritas 🤗. Thanks!
Good price, nice local bar atmosphere.
Cool place and budget friendly! Will definitely revisit
Good dive bar with a variety of patrons.
Beer for 5$! It can get crowded by students at night.
Friendly staff and great drink specials on Thursday nights!
It's a great bar...if you wanna be swamped by Columbia kids....
Good selection of Brooklyn Brewery beers on tap. Cheap prices.
Best dive bar in the Columbia neighborhood. Darts board is available for use at off peak times (nobody wants drunk college kids throwing darts at each other)
Cheapest place to get a drink in the ColumbiaU area. Tuesday nights are trivia nights for those with heads brimming with random factoids on what have you thingamajings!! Just know that Columbia undergrads are super competitive and kinda good at fact rentention! :)
This is a very cool bar with cheap drinks. The place also has a nice pool table in the back and old school booths. On the weekends this place is full of students from the nearby Barnard school.
Cheap. Loud. Undergraduate. And they've almost always got decent music and interesting movies playing with only subtitles on. Did I mention it was cheap? Incidentally, a plaque on the wall of the apartments that also share the same building announces that Gershwin composed "Rhapsody in Blue" in the same building.
Cheap beer. Cool, good crowd and it has darts and pool. DONT' GO HERE ON THE WEEKEND, it will be difficult to get into. My friend says there are cockroaches but I haven't seen any =P
So the other day I said to myself "Self, money is a little tight right now, but I think we deserve a drink. Where should we go?" "Well self, there is always 1020 bar. That place is mad cheap." "Right you are self! Brilliant idea!" And off I went.
It's a college dive bar. Average beer selection. No frills, but not expensive either.
This is a quintessential campus bar. Kids from Columbia pack in here on the weekends, and unfortunately it has gotten honestly TOO busy for its own good in the past couple months. The atmosphere rocks, very hipster grad-student. The decor is cool, they are always playing some cool movie on a big projector screen that covers the back wall. Getting a drink at the bar can be a nightmare during popular hours, so either come early or during the week. But if you are nice to one of the bartenders here they will do their best to take care of you. Its a good place.
Feels like a college bar in a small town, but in reality, it's a college bar in a neighborhood few others would make the trek to. Happy hour specials make cheap beer even cheaper. Most drafts are domestic, but the bottles branch into Europe, at least. Top shelf liquor is more or less available, but judging by the dust on the bottles, people don't feel the need to impress in that fashion. Stick to the Sierra Nevadas.
The points system from google+ doesn't make sense for this excellent dive bar in the Upper West. There is no sign out front and it always looks slightly closed... exactly what you want out of a dive bar. There is a pool table, a dart board and usually a slightly off bartender that weirds you out in a super friendly way. Winner.
A good ole big divey place tall ceilings decent beer selection music ok not too loud, ok movies playing quietly on a couple screens, closed captioned. Bartenders ok not too young. Go at off times (like most bars) for best experience.
I have been a regular at this place but I was shocked when my bill was higher than what it should have been. When I approached the bartender about this, I was told that I was the one who ordered vodka cranberries but I was drunk and hence don’t remember. I do not know how some one could get drunk on 2 beers. After that the bartender also told me that I’ve always fought with her in the past when it came to my debit card, which is not possible because that was literally the first conversation I was having with her. Any way, things ended on a slightly positive note and I will be going back.
Classic Morningside Heights bar. Come here because everyone you know is here. It can be crowded, but when it isn't, the vibe is just right to get drinks and hang with friends. If you can get a table, you're set for a solid night. If you can't, you'll still have a good time getting trampled by the crowd with your buddies. Drinks are par for the course -- it's the company that makes this place so great.
Classic College Bar 1020' s not big end, but it doesn't repair the seats with duct tape either. Draught beers are generally 5 or 6 $. Depending on the time, the age varies greatly. At times, there is a grad school crowd and others rhe mix is much younger. Of course, there are random locals or tourists, but they definitely are the minority in most evenings, especially when Columbia is in session.
Exactly what you should expect from a dive bar. The service is great, beer selection will leave everyone satisfied but not blown away. It gets very packed during the weekend with the undergrad crowd from Columbia. Best visited during the week and preferably early.
This is a great neighborhood bar. The bartenders are very friendly and attentive. It can be a little crowded, depending on whether Columbia is hosting an event here or not. The drinks are reasonably priced and there's plenty of room for patrons to spread out. I've never had a bad experience here.
Typical run-of-the-mill dive bar. Served cold beer that served a purpose!
Regular low key bar. Beer is inexpensive.
Cheap. Full of students many nights. Has a pool table.
Good bar but need to makeup inside
Would be a great dive bar if not for all the Columbia undergrads.
College student and prepie hang out not bad, kind of fun, lots of pung tang
I got in a fight with someone from Vampire Weekend at this bar because he told me Coldplay was a better band than The Beatles. Reasonably priced drinks for the neighborhood, if you don't mind the terrible crowd.
College /dive bar feel. Have cheap beers ..... Nothing fancy .. Pool table in the back . Go and have some drinks and chill.
Your average neighborhood bar. Attracts a college crowd from Columbia University nearby. The beer I had was $5 a pint.
They do not serve food yet. The bartender was inebriated, yet sweet, but my sister had not finished checking out, and he pointed out that she didn't tip him. He proceeded to discuss that with customers at the bar. It's not cool. However, cool place once they get back to business .
It's a dive bar, so I didn't have high expectations. I came here with a group of 10, and we were seated in the back area. It's a nice semi-private space. The drinks are cheap here, and there's a nice billiards table; however, the place isn't clean and tidy. One of my friends has to return a drink because the glass had lipstick stains on it. He was not happy. With extremely low expectations, you can have a blast here! Otherwise, you may wish to consider other nearby options.
Experienced discrimination from patrons and staff. Not an inclusive space for POCs
Bartender was on her phone. She had her friend sit on a stool behind the bar, she was rude to guests, and overcharged for drinks.
The bartenders forced a 33.3% tip on me at the end of the night after I came back at 4:10am without my consent. I asked politely about why it’s already transacted as that tip, and they told me to not be so stingy. I would have tipped generously had they not been trying to deceive me, hoping that I am drunk. I’m not a stingy person but this is just unacceptable to force a much-higher-than-standard tip and hope a person is drunk enough to not notice. I wouldn’t have even made a dispute regarding a 15-20% tip, but trying to get a higher tip than that is just being greedy. They told me that after complaining about the tip I am not welcomed there anymore — the rudest service from a bar I have received in a long time.
I went there for the 1st time this weekend. Initially I thought it was a chill bar with a nice atmosphere. The bathroom was atrocious, but I could put up with it by carefully stepping around the flooding toilet. Unfortunately the bartender was so rude and condescending to us, that i cant justify ever coming back.
I have always had a good experience in the past. However, they have an underage blonde bartender working there now that is so obnoxious & too busy getting drunk that she can’t get orders straight. She will definitely be the downfall of this bar. They need to get rid of her asap. Truly a liability. Her attitude is atrocious.
Asked for a diet coke and the weird dye job bartender huffed at me but gave it to me for free. I was gonna tip cause I felt bad for not ordering a real drink🤷♀️ Then I tasted it and it was really funky. Don’t know if it was old or he put something in it but probably will never go back.
We had an extremely frustrating experience at 1020 due to the rude and dismissive behavior of the bouncer. He immediately turned away my friend’s valid ID without making any attempt to verify her real birthdate as listed on her ID and verified by her other form of ID (her passport). Our entire group was clearly over 21, completely sober, and well-behaved, yet we were treated with unnecessary hostility and a lack of professionalism. This kind of poor customer service is enough for us to never return.
Just tried to go have a drink for my birthday. (8/29). Was ignored with my boyfriend for about 20 minutes. Finally the bartender (who most likely was drunk as I had seen him take shots right before with another Patron) totally bypassed us to tend to the group that had just arrived. Ridiculous. I’m a bartender and I’ve never felt so ignored at another bar. Management should seriously rethink who they have tending bar.
