Opinions de Thai Market New York
Wonderful! Having been to many Thai restaurants around that country this is one of the best ones. Although it was very crowded on Friday night, and a bit of a wait to get inside. Once there, great food with unique dishes that one would not usually find at regular Thai restaurants. Service person was quiet until asked questions, but then showed that she is smart and witty.
Easy to get a table, incredible flavors. I'll go back.
This place has the best lunch deals. Around 10 dollars for an appetizer and a main. Absolutely mindblowing deals in my opinion. The service was great and I liked the ambience too. I ordered the Thai dumplings, and they sure are a unique treat. The skin is layered, with chicken and peanuts inside. It was both soft and crunchy, and a genuine flavor explosion in my mouth. I also had their pad thai, and you can never go wrong with pad thai. The peanut and lemon blended well together with a slight sourness. Honestly great portion size-too big for me to finish-for the price you are paying. The green salad also had a lovely spice and crunch to it, and the fried rice had an aromatic soy smell. Overall, great lunch and would definitely return to try other dishes!
This place is a jem! The food is awesome, the service awesome, the atmosphere exactly right. I mean my glass of water never even got to half empty, they were on top of it!
Excellent neighborhood Thai spot. Food is quite authentic and price is really reasonable. Can't beat the $8 lunch special that includes appetizer and entree. So far I've only tried the Pad Thai from reviewers' recommendations, and it was definitely delicious and memorable. Can't wait to go back to try other dishes.
I went in pretty hungry and I must say I was pretty impressed with how quickly they delivered our orders. It isn't the biggest place to be but it is cozy. They are very strict on time and started to close the restaurant immediately at 9pm even though we were still inside. I thought it was strange but we made it out on time before it was fully shut.
Great spot for some unique Thai dishes. Their curries hit the spot.
Outstanding. Spent a month and a half in Chiang Mai eating Khao Soi a few times a week and have yet to find much outside of Thailand worth eating. This is very much an exception. Something about how the spices in the curry are prepared is a bit different from anywhere else I've been, imparting a slightly smoky, almost charred flavour that rounded out the base of the dish beautifully. The chicken was perfectly marinated and cooked, rich in flavour and fall-apart tender. Sublime. I only wish there was a bit more acid in the toppings to cut the gorgeous broth. Would recommend this to anyone, anytime. I wish I were in New York longer to come back for another bowl! Will be returning at my first opportunity.
Best Thai food hands down. I’ve been coming here for over 15 years. Service is always quick. Food is consistently delicious. I now live in Orange County, and any time I make the trip to the city, I make sure to stop by Thai Market and get some tasty Thai food. My favorite restaurant!
Pork dish was super tender, will definitely be coming back!
Good food in a nice restaurant. We got the special and three other dishes. All were great. Not too spicy and wonderful flavors. Servers were nice and kept our water glasses full.
Hands down the best Thai food in the city. It is even better than the street food in Thailand. We have been coming here for the past 15 years.
Service was great and the food exceeded expectation. We ordered the skirt steak, which, was cooked perfectly and was also absolutely delicious. The noodles from Pad See Mao my were not soggy nor sticky, the chicken was far beyond bland and dry. Also, spice level described on the menu was accurate! Can't wait to go back!
I've been there two times now and both times I was not disappointed:) both times I had their famous curry puffs for appetizer, and l've also tried the green curry and the kow geang only $9.95 during lunch and both dishes were great. The atmosphere at the place is really nice and you can't beat the price.
Thai market is by far the best Thai restaurant on the Upper West Side. It is simple, tasty and has great service. The bar is also quite nice - and best of all, the prices aren't high (for it being NYC). I can actually confidently recommend pretty much all items on the menu. From the traditional Pad Thai, to Kim Mao, Tiger Cry, all the curries and their delicious daily specials. Also, lunch specials are super affordable (appetizer and medium main course for about $10 - I think). Highly recommend it!
Some of the best Thai food I've had in...far too long. We had Tom Yum Goong soup, Chicken Massaman (curry), Tofu Pra-Ram (tofu broccoli), and Kow Pad Poo (fried rice). All very good and flavorful. Had never had Thai dessert before, but we went big and got Lychee Creme Brulee, Fried Ice Cream with Raspberry Sauce and Green Tea Ice Cream. Also very good. And...all that for about $70 before tip. Really great meal and experience. Highly recommend.
An authentic taste of Thai in Manhattan Valley. Though it’s a bit off the beaten path, on Amsterdam Ave and 107th-108th street, this Thai place serves up some of the tastiest Thai specialties I’ve ever had. Mango salad is a tangy break from the standard papaya salad, and the green curry, vegetarian pad Thai and a bold colorful chicken with pineapple and cashews were delightful main dishes we sampled. Worth a trip!
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in all of New York. The food is absolutely amazing and the pricing is something you can't beat. The service is very fast and the staff is nice. I make it a habit to try and go as often as possible because this is just one of my favorite restaurants to go to whenever I make plans with friends!!
I haven't frequent a lot of Thai restaurants in my life. I'm really not passionate about the food but, to day it was very enjoyable. I had Grilled Salmon and it was nicely tender and moist on the inside. It was a mix of sweet and spicy curry sauce, very good!! I will definitely order it again. The calamari was also nice and crisp. Not over cook like some places I've eaten at before. It was cooked perfectly and did not taste rubbery..... I can actually give Thai Market thumbs up👍👍👍I almost forgot... my girlfriend ordered the Crab Fried Rice. It was also very delicious. I give Thai Markert 5 Satrs. The food is prices reasonable too.
Thai food heaven! If craving for thai food, come here and you will be satisfied! Location: It is located in Amsterdam Ave. It is near Mount Sinai St. Lukes, so quick way to go if you are craving for Thai food. The restaurant is quite huge, plenty of seats but I stayed in the bar cause I went by myself. Service: The girl in the bar is super nice, she keeps asking me if I need anything. So sweet! Food: I went here for lunch so I ordered their lunch special which is $9.95 for 1 appetizer and 1 main course. SPRING ROLL: it is so crispy and it is vegetable inside, I got two which is perfect so it is not overwhelming, the sauce tho could be better. PAD THAI: omg it was good, better than in Thailand! Lol I got shrimp and there is like 4 huge shrimps in there! Yum! THAI ICED COFFEE: it was so good! Taste bitter at first but when u mixed it, omg soo delicious! Price rating: 5/10, not bad for lunch. OMG I will definitely go back here to try their other food! Definitely try Pad Thai and their Iced Coffee!
The food at Thai Market is possibly the best Thai food I have had in the US. Everything we have tried over many visits has been consistently delicious, including the Branzino, Salmon, Chicken Massaman, Pad Thai, Calamari and Chicken Sate. The only problem is that is now so popular that there is often a 1 hour wait.
You NEED to go here if you’re at Columbia or in the Upper West Side. Probably one of the best Thai spots I’ve been to. We got the pad ki Mao & pra ram tofu. SO GOOD. The rice is perfect, and on top of that the service is amazing. They’re super quick, always come and ask if you want anything, their hot sauces have all 4 of the sauces (the spicy pepper, small fresh pickled peppers, chili sauce… and one that I forget, because I don’t usually eat it). They have 2 bathrooms in the back, and the location is super cute.
BEST thai restaurant I have ever been to in America simply phenomenal in my opinion. The duck was outstanding and even with all the the sauce it was so crispy and melted in your mouth the meat was so tender and the curry sauce was so creamy. The appetizer was also really good and the filling was very tender and juicy. The GPKD was also great and spicy however quite salty. Highly recommend.
One of the few times I give 5 stars. Aside from price, the place was like perfect. The servers, serve in a way that is there but also non invasive. The atmosphere is clean, on theme, and we'll lit for a nice mood. And the food... well is like premium/quality Thai. I had an aversion from a previous experience with Thai in another restaurant and this place helped me get over it. I ordered the panang curry which they easily and without hassle substituted the meat with salmon. And it was beautifully plated, the salmon was perfectly cooked tender and flaky, flavor on point, and just ask around perfection. I also ordered a pomegranate ginger ale and it was alright. Not that good. Too much sugar but the curry was bomb. Tried my friend's curry as well and it also slapped. So good!
Went to this resturent for dinner on a weekend. I ordered rainbow trout seafood, fried rice and pad Thai. The food is good, I would say above average. They service is satisfactory, the got the food pretty quickly. However, they had room in terms cleanliness for washroom and atmospheres. The resturent is located in the city and finding parking can be challenging depending upon the time.
This is a great Thai place! All the dishes we had were extremely delicious and the service was top notch. We can't wait to get back to this place to try more dishes. The smell in this place really reminded us our trip to Thailand, definitely check this place out if you are looking for some delicious Thai food!
The food is always great. The staff are very friendly. With Covid-19 they have screens between you and the people next to you. They also have outdoor seating. The Tiger is an appetizer but they also have the flank steak which is almost the same but better and more. Have to go with the green dipping sauce very spicy, made with lime. It’s so good!! The mo pin grilled pork strips with spicy tamarind sauce, is a must.
Casual Thai but really delicious food! Husband and I were looking to try a new Thai place after our movie date last Saturday and this was one that showed up nearby that we thought was worth trying. I started off with Thai iced tea and we also ordered a glass of Rose. Started off with Chicken Satay and it was delicious, only thing I noticed was it was only 3 sticks while other places had at least 4 sticks. For entrees, we ordered their Crab Fried Rice to share and we also shared the Pad Thai and Red Curry Beef. All three were fantastic. Again, my bar for Thai food is set really high because I've traveled to Thailand many times and love Thai food so much that I decided to study a Thai Culinary course with the very best Chefs in Bangkok. That being said, the Crab Fried Rice was so delicious and they were generous with real and fresh crab meat. So worth it! The Pad Thai was very good. And the Red Curry Beef while not necessarily in the menu and they gladly offered to make for me, was very good. I still think it could have been more spicy because I already asked for it but I guess they'll always hold back in a healthy way, and I'm speaking across all Thai restaurants that I've eaten in here so far. As for the finale, the mango sticky rice was easily one of the best that I've had! I especially love that they have that coconut milk/cream on the side which is really the perfect way to do it. 4.5 out of 5. I can see us becoming regulars here. The only thing I truly wish they can take into consideration and improve on are their plates. I understand the overall feel from the menu to the plates are old/traditional Thai but the plates do not seem that polished and some are chipped on the sides. Other than that, they definitely won us over. We'll be back!
Very tasty Thai cuisine with a great ambience. The serving size for appetizers are somewhat less but the main course have better serving size. The average bill for 4 people including tips will come up to $90-$110.
Love this neighborhood staple that’s been around for over 14 years. Go for the minced dumplings, and any entree. So sad they don’t have the duck dish they’ve served since I was a teenager anymore! Otherwise great staff and experience.
I guess this is one of the better Thai places in Morningside Heights, but that isn’t necessarily saying a whole lot. The problem for me is that they have Americanized, or dumbed down, certain of the flavor profiles of Thai food (eg, the funk of fish sauce or the intense heat of chilis) while elevating others, particularly sweet and salty flavors. The result is a lot of unbalanced dishes that are overly sweet with no heat or acidic counterpoints. The Moo Ping today was a case in point - I could have been eating candied apples on a stick, that’s how sweet and gooey the grilled pork skewers were. I keep this place in the rotation - but only because, with enough passing of time, at some point I ALWAYS convince myself that if I order wisely, the food will be more exciting. And I am ALWAYS wrong about that.
The food is quite good, my pad thai was fried really well and the shrimps were fresh but somehow was not spicy enough despite ordering dishes with the 3 chillis sign. Taste-wise was also on the sweeter side. The flavouring tastes like something I have had for cheaper from the food truck :(
Had been wanting to try this for a while and finally did! It didn’t disappoint. The chicken massaman curry was fantastic, and is one of the only massaman curry dishes I’ve ever seen with avocado in it, and that really makes it! The quality of the chicken was kind of off, chewy and bland, but everything else about the dish, the service, and the ambiance was great. Very crowded when we arrived around 730 dinner hour but still a few tables available. The Thai iced tea is also delicious! They’re not on Seamless but I will definitely figure out some sort of grub hub/delivery option because it was great. Update: came back and tried the chicken green curry - delicious! Perfect level of spicy. Also tried the steamed Thai dumpling appetizer (filled with peanuts and minced chicken) and loved it. Definitely go before 7pm because it fills up fast for dinner and there will be a wait!
I was craving Thai food on a chilly rainy night and decided to give this place a try based on the reviews. The green curry and mango sticky rice are usually my go-to and this definitely hit the spot. My meal was fresh, tasty, and authentic; the green curry had the perfect hint of spice for my mild level of spice haha and the mango sticky rice was delicious! I wish they put more coconut milk in the green curry for a thicker and creamer consistency. Will be back to get the drunken noodles, pad see ew, and papaya salad this summer!
This is a SOLID thai place if you are in the NY area! It has a wide variety of foods. I really enjoyed the spicy grapow rice (definitely a 5 star meal), but the other meals we ordered are more of a 4 star quality. Also recommend the papaya salad, daikon cake, and curries. If you like thai food definitely check this place out and you will not be disappointed!
The chicken basil is good! The portions are also pretty well sized for one person (although smaller than usual for America). The food came out fast but the service was a little slow. They have a fairly large space, so it's definitely possible to stop by for lunch (even around peak lunch time) without a wait.
The inside is pretty spacious, with lots of table and half-booth seating. The wall facing the street is covered with large window from floor to ceiling, bringing in lots of natural light. The next largest wall was filled with large photos, lit from the back. The other two walls had red brick walls, which I always love. It also had some Bangkok street signs hanging from the ceiling, which was pretty cool. Their lunch special is really great. You get a choice of an appetizer and a choice of an entrée for $9.50. No matter what you choose, the price stays the same. From the lunch special, we got Curry Puff, Steamed Thai Dumplings, Green Curry, and Sen Mee Neau Peuy. The food is really great here, it is more authentic than Americanized Thai food. Sen Mee Neau Peuy was especially great, flavorful and filling. We also had one dessert to share, Lychee Creme Brulé which was interesting and tasty. The service is not very friendly, but more efficient than anything. As the restaurant was mostly packed, speed might be more important than friendliness. With a very affordable, super yummy lunch special, it is understandable that they are one of the most popular lunch spot around this area. Read my full review of the restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.
I gave a 4 because of the customer service but food overall was really good, the interior is nice, cool and chilled. The Steamed Thai dumpling were amazing and tasty, the pad kee mao was very good and I asked for mild, the kow soy was good, not too spicy at all, chicken was very tender and the sauce was flavorful and creamy.
Overcast Sunday random walk-in got us here. The place was not busy and we got an amazing window seat and got straight to ordering which included Kow Soy ($17.95), Vegetable Curry ($17.95) and, Curry Rice ($2.50) - a side portion which was enough to feed our little one! Food overall was inline with expectations; nothing spectacular, but not disappoint either. Not much spice kick, but the Kow Soy was packed with flavor and the Vegetable Curry, not so much! Decent portion sizes too. Service was slightly slow, but food arrived within 25-mins of ordering. Noise levels on the lower end. Will visit again for sure!
So you're looking for great thai food, huh? Well congratulations because you have stumbled across the right place. This is by far the best thai food I have had in NYC. From the appetizers to the entrees, they are all packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but the drinks were not great. Overall, a fantastic place for a flavorful meal!
Very tasty meal. Started with the papaya salad and calamari. Pomegranate ginger ale and thai ice tea. Curry puffy. Standard all good. Not blown away. Rice dish with ground chicken is sweet, soup vermicelli is good portion with big chunky of meat. also enjoyed the beef ball in it! My go to Pad Se ew order of shrimp is good(although i forgot to add my usual tofu), pad ke mao has tomato which is different. All the dishes came out fast and was piping hot. Mango sticky rice is fresh and sweet. Service was just ok but everyone is amicable.
First time here and it was a pretty good place to eat. Sorry for the horrible pictures but we were starving and we just devoured the food. My partner and I had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. Which for appetizers we had the spring rolls and chicken wings. Honestly some of the best wings I’ve had, needs a bit more seasoning but with the sauce they provided they were really good. For entrees, I had the beef pad Thai and my boyfriend the drunken noodles with beef as well. They weren’t amazing, the drunken noodles said they were “spicy” but they were sweeter more than anything. I give it a 3.5 star if I could because service was okay, I felt rushed when the server was taking my order. She came really fast the first time and we didn’t even get a chance to look at the menu. Then she came again 2min after and we were still deciding on what we were getting. We asked her a couple of questions about the entrees and she answered them and told her what we wanted and she tried to take our menus and I had to stop her so I can put an order for appetizers. All in all, pretty good restaurant.
Lunch specials are pretty affordable but the flavors were not out of this world in what I ordered (the seafood soup). They were a bit skimpy in the seafood in my soup but I guess I got what I paid for. The soup was VERY spicy but what do you expect from Thai food? This place is not bad if you're looking for cheap Thai food!
We were looking forward to some good Thai food but were left disappointed. While the ingredients seemed fresh everything we ordered was much too sweet, to a degree that it overwhelmed all other flavors, which is a feat for Thai food. It's a shame cause the service was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
On a par with many other Thai restaurants. Not worth a special trip north.
I got take out after craving some real street style pad Thai like you get in Thailand. This was definitely not it. The noodles were slightly overcooked/mushy and no peanuts. Also they didn’t cook the noodles in the sauce seems like they added separately. Many reviewers love this place so I will have to try again and order laab or kra pao. Sorry to disappoint. Best Thai restaurant in US is Larb Zaab in Quincy, Massachusetts. I dream of it and for me, nowhere outside of Thailand compares.
Tried several times. Food quality, including materials used, is below average in NYC, for which prices are high especially in this location. Ordered Panang Curry with chicken, and it was served with chicken and tiny amount of vegetable. I must say that's the worst Panang Curry I have ever had. There are tons of better Thai restaurants in Upper East, midtown, and downtown. This is not attractive. Their tips are calculated with tax included, starting from 20%.
My first visit to this restaurant was very good! I was delicious! I ordered the eggplant vegetarian dish with wild rice. For dessert I ordered fried ice cream. Not a single complaint! Naturally, I I decided to go back but unfortunately, it was nowhere near as good as my first visit. I ordered the last option on the vegetarian menu. The ginger tofu. The dish was SUPPOSED to come with Chinese broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, Ginger sauce, and other assorted vegetables. There only a few broccoli leaves and mostly stems. Only three or four mushrooms, and no Ginger pieces, at all! Barely even a ginger sauce. I don't know how they pass that off as a match to what's listed in the menu. On top of that, the service was HORRIBLE! The waiter seemed more interested in ignoring us than serving.... And they weren't even that busy! Needless to say, we won't be going back. In search of good Thai food on the upper west side, Todd Bennett
The food here has gone so down hill it almost makes me want to cry. $20 for watery flavorless green curry and $21 for the Tiger Cry steak that used to be soooo good and full of flavor. Now it just tastes like straight up salt. Basically $50 bucks I paid for this food and I don't even want to eat it. Trash.
The good: service is very quick and the Thai iced tea was good. Ask for less sugar. The bad: if you're looking for anything close to authentic Thai food keep looking. The mango salad was extremely sweet, not much other spice to it. The pad thai was also way too sweet, this chef probably has a poor palette as you couldn't really taste any of the food as you're supposed to at a good restaurant. The sugar level is insane. One of the appetizers, the salmon wraps, I had to send back because it was way too salty. It was a decent experience because we were starving and the location is good and the service was fast. However, I'm never going back to this place, and the food was very disappointing as I am a big Thai food fan, I've actually been to Thailand, and this place just did not hit that for me.
Highly overrated. Their whole claim when they opened was that this would be like authentic Thai Street food...but don't believe the hype. The food is bland, not very flavorful, and there's nothing artful or unique about it. They do give you a good amount of food, I will give them that much, but it's not all that great. I've had much better Thai food than this. Thai is my favorite ethnic food, so I tend to grab it wherever I can. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, service here is such that you feel like you're annoying them by taking up table space and making them work. The hostess who greets you is friendly, but from there you're thrown into an assembly line of brusque and not very attentive service. I've never really felt welcomed or valued there, only that I was just another walking wallet to be emptied quickly and then shown the door. The place does look sort of nice inside, although the chairs are not that comfortable. Bathrooms are small, but clean. I would really like to see them up their game though, on both the food and the customer service. I have much better experiences at Potjanee on Carmine Street, or a whole host of places in Northern New Jersey or California.
This does not taste like Thai food at all... it looks like Thai food but it tastes like generic Asian food (not good one). I've been to hundreds of Thai restaurants and I've traveled in Thailand and this is the first time this happens to me.
One dish was tasty, but I had a bad stomach after. Worse, female waiter with a shrilly voice, was quite rude when we requested to transfer seats to a different table which remained unoccupied the whole time we were there, until we left. I understand they can't transfer us, but it can always be said in a respectful way. We would have left if we weren't so hungry and we didn't want to change parking spots since it was very cold. Worse, the female waitstaff was like hurrying us to finish when there weren't really a lot of people and we did not really take long. I also found it pathetic that we just had stood up from the table to leave, and the first thing she did was to look at how much tip we gave. Kinda pathetic she is. We came back here after almost 7 years for sentimental reasons since I was craving for Thai food and was in the Columbia area at the Upper West Side. My husband and I are in unison in saying we won't come back ever! We will find a better Thai place. (We visited in January 2022.)
Wow ... I just bought a “Thai Ginger w/ Chicken” and honestly this came out of a Chinese restaurant kitchen, it’s literally like Chinese food. I’m so disappointed and left hungry now after paying almost $30 with a soup and beverage and all getting tossed out. Please to the cooks of this restaurant: This is not Thai food! Go down to Chelsea and dine in a Thai Restaurant on 8th or 9th ave, that is Thai food. Extremely disappointed.
I used to love this place but I haven't been by in a few years due to pandemic. Last night I craved Thai fried rice w/pineapples, chicken and cashew nuts. The rice was so gross. It was greasy and had some type of Chinese sausage in it. I couldn't believe it when I saw the the reddish sweet sausage, so I gave them a call to try to identify this meat. The rice was also mashed. And the chicken breast pieces had a coating on it. Very inauthentic Thai cuisine. If I want Chinese food, I would've went to a Chinese restaurant. Very disappointing. And the cucumbers that are usually alongside Thai rice were missing, But there was some beat up tomato pieces inside the rice. My goodness.
Inauthentic flavors that have been toned down to appeal to less discerning palates. There was a noticeable absence of fish sauce and chillies in the dishes; food tasted greasy, even the papaya salad. Shrimp were mushy, as if previously frozen.
We ordered from this place two dishes. The food arrived on time and was mediocre; the worst thing was finding human hair in one of he dishes, which of course spoiled our appetite as well as made us commit to never order from them again. If you care for your health and hygiene, order elswewhere.
I went to the restaurant many times, and the wit was always great. My delivery today was the absolute opposite, I initially thought I had ordered at the wrong place. The food was not well prepared and tasted bad.
Food was bad , service rushing to close Server was cold , two starters and two main at the same time . The check over my plate , before finish.
Unfortunately I can't comment on the food, as having made a reservation for 12 people - confirmed by phone, and by the restaurant itself by email the afternoon of the dinner - our reservation was inexplicably cancelled. What made matters worse was the unprofessional and unsympathetic hostess at the front desk (who said her job was not to pick up confirmation phone messages). So beware! Fortunately (with 12 hungry friends expecting dinner) we were able to decamp across the street to Awash Ethiopian restaurant where atmosphere, service and food were excellent (and the restaurant infinitely quieter).
