Opinions de Barbalu New York
Some of the best and most fresh Italian food I've ever had. Really awesome atmosphere. To have this quality of food at this price point is outstanding value
Everything is excellent, the waiters were polite and very attentive. they also gave a free dessert, it was very unexpected but very cool, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and the prices were pleasant, one fairly large pizza cost ~$20 and a drink $4
Great neighborhood spot! Best pizza in the area (dine-in). Service is chill, great Aperol Spritz, and just a solid relaxing weekend vibe to grab some food with friends.
Amazing neighborhood joint, we come here at least once every couple of weeks. The atmosphere is always cozy and festive, the service prompt and friendly and the food is truly amazing. Maybe the best Italian food I’ve had outside of Italy. I really love this place.
This is a true gem for the neighborhood. The food is FANTASTIC (pizza actually made by an Italian) and the pasta is delicious. I also loved their wine list (having Lambrusco by the glass!) so it's a great place for any occasion. We've been here for both lunch and brunch and the kids love it. We will definitely be back!
Definitely the best pizza I had in NY and not. Impressive how the pizza is light but extremely good, same the pasta. From focaccia with olives to start, to margherita pizza and pasta with seafood to the tiramisu and caprese: vote 100/10 Edward was our server and it was simply amazing. We will be back very soon! Grazie mille
I've always had a great experience there. Last time, we all got different pizzas to share, and we tried to rank which one was the best, but we all had different answers. If you like capers and anchovies, the Sicliano pizza is otherworldly good.
Service was excellent. Atmosphere was very romantic (tho I was there on girls night). Burrata appetizer was fabulous. Beef racy was delicious. Loved the cocktails and wine selection. Chocolate crème brûlée was amazing. Olive oil cake was a little dry; only disappointment. Highly recommend and prices were reasonable!
The pasta was delicious, I've tried various ravioli of the day, as well as other options; the pasta was tender and the flavors intense without being overwhelming or unnecessarily heavy. The pizza is good and competes with many good pizzerias in the area.
Have been here several times, the service and food are great each and every time. I always order the Diavola pizza and Chef Pino's lasagna every time i go. The fried calamari and cesar salad are always a good choice as well. Everything on the menu and the service is always great.
Amazing food - we had the pasta. I wish we had also tasted the pizza. It looked amazing.
This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is great but the food quality is insane! The mixed greens salad was super refreshing and the homemade Pappardelle was incredible. For dessert I had the olive oil cake which was drizzled in raspberry sauce and was delicious. I am definitely coming back.
Last week I hosted my daughter's birthday party at Barbalu. The location, setting and especially the food were perfect! It was truly a memorable occasion and I can't thank Stefano enough for so graciously hosting our large gathering. He really made it a special day. Highly recommended - amazing pastas, exceptional pizzas, delicious fish and excellent drinks.
My husband, my sister and I had an amazing time at Barbalu. We ordered two pizzas - prosciutto and rucola and black truffle mushroom, and both were amazing! We definitely will come back here if we are in the area!
Delicious food! Calamari fresh! Fish and pasta. Highly recommend. NY “A” rating!
Excellent experience overall. Service at first was delayed, but promptly made up for it with politeness and food prep time. We had the focaccia as our appetizer which was soft and flavorful. Our entrees were both the Lasagna, which was to die for - 5 out of 5 on texture, flavor, value for portion size and ingredient quality. Cost was $28 or so, which was fair since the quality was so good. Would gladly come back!
The workers here are really kind. They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Matteo especially is simply the best. Its rare to find this level of service but it is consistent. We have visisted four times already!
This beautiful surprise is just waiting around the corner from a busy Brooklyn street, offering a quiet and tasty reprieve from big city life. The ambiance here is super chill with modern decor. The food here is amazing with classic Italian dishes as well as some new trendy ones. While eating you can enjoy the sunlight as it penetrates the tall glass windows and view fresh dough being kneading and shaped. My suggestions are the pasta and soups all off them, they all are sublime. Wether you’re new to the area or just looking for some good vibes for lunch, do your self a favor and stop on by!!!
This place is so, so, so good. The food is perfectly executed without being pretentious, and the service is friendly, fast, and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant is sleek and modern but still feels comfortable. This would be a great place to take a date or have a dinner/lunch out with friends. Good happy hour prices, too. 10/10
Super fast service, we were in and out of the restaurant in maybe 45 minutes, which might have been a little bit too fast. But otherwise the food was delicious. We got the focaccia bread, which was deliciously fluffy and crunchy. We also got the short rib pappardelle and the Margherita pizza and both were very good.
+ outdoor seating + good food + Menu specials - cherry in old fashion 😝 Great place for a local outing with friends. The only downside side is that is a bit expensive. I completely understand the situation and all but the prices in this area should not be Manhattan prices. I will definitely come back for pizza
Great for team lunches and events! They have a fixed menu and family style appetizers that work well for a group. Stefano is very flexible to accommodate whatever works for your group and helpful with setting everything up!
Spacious restaurant with a wonderful selection of pizza and pasta. Ordered the margherita pie but the all-star was the homemade cavatelli with mixed mushrooms and truffle. The pasta was cooked to perfection and flavorful. Extremely quick and friendly service—would definitely come again.
The Yelp community steered me toward an incredible meal. All members of our party enjoyed their food choices. It's well-located with a pleasant team. Meals took longer than expected and beverage service was similarly affected. I'm truly excited about returning.
The pizza is absolutely phenomenal. I know there's a million pizza joints in Brooklyn, but if you're looking for something extra special, come here. Not to mention the bartender, Jocelyn, (pardon possible spelling errors) makes great drinks. The Espresso Martini is one of the best I've had. I have not had the entrees- just pizza, appetizers, and salads all of which are heavenly. Oh, they also have good happy hour prices.
Alex our server was amazing! As well as the overall service! He told us beforehand, that pizza was not available. So, we went with pasta: - Maccherone Ragu - Cavatelli with Mushrooms and Truffle. They were a bit pricey, but delicious! Cocktails were top notch!! (We ordered Yuzu Basil Smash and Averna Old Fashioned) We chose Tiramisu for a dessert to share! It's light and tasty! Atmosphere was also amazing! All in all, we enjoyed this place a lot and would recommend it 100%!
Ordered takeout from Barbalu Brooklyn and was very impressed. The Homemade Squid Ink Tonnarelli Allo Scoglio traveled well and still tasted amazing at home. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the seafood was fresh, and the flavors were rich and well balanced. Even as takeout, the quality was excellent. Will definitely order again!
Came for brunch - everything was so fresh!! Had the Penne al la bruscio and the benedict with salmon, absolutely fantastic.
Shared three pasta dishes with my wife and they were all amazing and unique! And the food came out almost immediately. Great service, great wine, would highly recommend
I walk past this restaurant all the time and finally decided to give it a try. My companion and I shared the roasted beet salad, the mushroom pizza, and the homemade pasta with braised short rib. The pizza was outstanding with perfect charred crust and it was nice and thin. The pasta was tasty too, but the portion was kind of small. The beet salad was my least favorite. It was okay but the beets weren't sweet or had enough acid to round out the flavors. Overall, the meal was very good and I'd go back just for the mushroom pizza.
Excellent food. We went as 4 and got: Cannellini Beans Salad Rigatoni all Norma Homemade Pappardelle Homemade Potato Gnocchi White Veal Ragù Lamb Meatballs Zucchine Al Gratin Everything there was great. What stuck out the most and you should get is the Rigatoni all Norma and Lamb Meatballs. The pasta was cooked perfectly and had an amazing chew. The red sauce was to die for, so bright, and (hopefully not artificially) sweet. Coming from Philly and Lancaster, this just blows any Italian joint out of the water, the menu was so deep with amazing dishes we wanted to try. The cocktails and beverage list was also great. One of the best negroni's I've had. Service was pretty good, server knew most of the stuff going on, but wasn't very confident in that. Atmosphere for us was quite terrible only because a couple decided to have their loud and annoying child be loud and annoying in a fairly confined space. I'm not taking points off for that though. Place is a little pricey, but it's NYC.
This place became an instant classic for us! The food is always spectacular and consistent, the branzino and mushroom pizza are definite standouts. The staff are kind and personable, and the atmosphere has a great energy. It can get a bit loud on busy nights, but I’ve the food is worth it. I come here regularly with a friend, and we can always count on a quality meal ^^
Great looking restaurant with a nice bar area, excellent food and service. The weather was nice so we sat outside. Good neighborhood vibe with lots of people walking by. Neapolitan pizza was excellent. Great crust. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside with a nice undercarriage. Delicious fresh toppings. The waiter was friendly, professional, and attentive. He showed pride in working here and talked with us about the restaurant and the neighborhood.
We came to Barbalu Bklyn just 45 minutes before closing time, not really expecting to be seated—there were five of us, and we thought maybe we’d just be allowed to order takeout. But to our surprise and delight, two amazing guys, Matteo and Nick, welcomed us with warm smiles and no hesitation. They seated us right away, took our full order with zero rush, and the food came out incredibly fast—and even more incredibly delicious! We honestly didn’t expect such a perfect experience so late in the evening. I came specifically for the authentic Italian pizza, and it did not disappoint. Thin, crispy, fresh—it was exactly what I was craving. We also ordered the oven-roasted branzino with broccolini, and let me tell you—the fish was tender and full of flavor, and the vegetables were the best I’ve ever had. And then—something truly special happened. It was my mom’s birthday, and Matteo and Nick surprised us with a beautiful tiramisu topped with a candle and a bottle of champagne, completely on the house. That moment made the whole evening unforgettable. We left with full hearts, full bellies, and big smiles. This is not just a restaurant—it’s a place where you’re treated like family. Huge thank you to the staff—you guys are amazing. 100% recommend Barbalu Bklyn to anyone who wants a truly delicious meal and an experience filled with warmth and joy. We’ll definitely be back!❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
The pan roasted Arctic char with veggies was great. Loads of olive oil and both cooked to crispy perfection. The pasta was delicious, I've tried various ravioli of the day, as well as other options; the pasta was tender and the flavors intense without being overwhelming or unnecessarily heavy. The pizza is good and competes with many good pizzerias in the area. The tiramisu was creamier and more delicate than usual, and I liked it though it was bit more sugary than I expected. The outdoor tables benefit from the wide sidewalk. It's on the pricier side, but it makes up by being reliable and consistent with the quality.
Had late dinner. The staff was wonderful, and very attentive to our needs I was impressed. The food was spectacular, taste on point. It was flavorful but not overpowering. We ordered another dish recommended by our waiter which was so good I forgot to take pictures. The restaurant's atmosphere was cozy not too loud. I was there later in the evening so it might be different earlier. There is also outdoor seating, and a ramp is provided for accessibility needs.
Brussels sprout is meh Pasta and drink are both good
Really good! My only complaint was the olive oil cake tasted like regular yellow cake. It was good but left something to be desired. The arancini, short rib pappardelle and truffle ravioli were all really impressive though!
The cheese and truffle ravioli was phenomenal!! Otherwise everything we had was very good but not exceptional - enjoyed the parmigiana pizza (crust was a bit weak), burrata, chocolate cannoli. The tiramisu was pretty good, not amazing. The host was very welcoming and helpful. Wait service was as expected. I would return.
Fresh, made to order food and really reasonably priced. Sauce was on the acidic side for me, but was tasty. Great wine and espresso too! Do yourself a favor and order the foccacia with green olives. It's a must.
Delicious dining location in Brooklyn! Our food was very flavorful. Started off with the Chilean Sea Bass on herb salad. It was definitely the herb salad and lemon vinaigrette that topped it off for me. Also enjoyed a brick oven pizza and Cavatelli with mushroom dish, again the sauce was wonderful. Our server was great too, I wish I remembered her name to give her a shout out!
Barbalu offers great dishes served impressively fast. I’ve tried many of their saucy pasta plates and Italian wines, and I’ve loved every single one. The service — as you can tell — is quick, and the place is almost always packed. I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time to secure a good spot and enjoy the experience without the wait!
Place was packed. But for not having a reservation, we didn’t have to wait long to be seated. Very cool spot, a little loud but enjoyable atmosphere with decent music. The services after sitting, was fast and the food came quickly as well. I ordered the sausage and peppers personal pizza. Pizza was good for what it was ordered and old fashion as well and that was so so. It was more sweet than I’d like and very light on the alcohol.
We were in the mood for a quick Italian fix in the neighborhood and this was exactly what we wanted. An elevated Italian restaurant with a good amount of seating, mainly aiming for local regulars and for families with young children. The food was exactly to be expected: good Italian food. Was it an all star performance? No and I wasn’t expecting that which is totally fine. The Lasagne was a bit sloppy, which wasn’t expected, although flavors were great. The Ragu was ordered with Gluten Free noodles which were cooked perfectly, nice. The sauce was great. The Caesar Salad was a bit meh, could’ve been from a Chili’s and I wouldn’t have known the difference. Overall - a good place for families or groups, maybe not for a date night as the atmosphere is a little eh. Yall need to get better forks though cuz like the ones you give us are like mega adult size
Chanced upon it while looking for a dinner joint. Had the pangs for pasta and this place was crowded. Couldn't be that bad, right? Yes, the crowd wasn't wrong. They knew a good eat when they came across one. We had squid inked pasta, salad and pumpkin soup. All good. So was tiramasu. The service was good, despite the crowd. Impressed.
We had a nice dinner with friends at Barbalu! Love the atmosphere, very chic yet comfy. Food was delicious and service friendly. The only reason why I don’t give 5 stars is that we had to wait for the pasta for like 40 min. And our waitress didn’t notice until we told her. Also I find the salads kind of small.
3 out of 5 stars because everything was right in the middle, just okay. The flavor in the food wasn't bad, just nothing really stood out. It was okay. We ordered pasta's, kale salad, arancini.. One comment on the kale salad..I never had a kale salad where the kale is previously blanched, it took a lot of the flavor and texture out of the kale and made the kale itself taste bland. The presentation of the food was beautiful. We didn't order pizza but looking at the table across from us, maybe we should of tried the pizza.
This restaurant was the first restaurant that popped up when googling, so we went. The atmosphere was vibing, but not welcoming enough for us. When seated, we weren't offered olives and bread, and we saw other privileged families and other Italians getting breads. The food was great, and the chicken wasn't dry. I had the mushroom, black truffle pasta, and we ate it. Butter Penne pasta wasn't cooked all the way. Service could use improvement on hospitality, like offering bread, or more water, instead of us asking for more water.
pizza dough is excellent. broccolini pizza is fantastic and an instant win. diavolo and other tomato bases can be good are inconsistent, other times coming with a soggy base and so wet that all toppings slide off. ordering sodas we initially thought they tasted watered down in the ice, however second and third times coming here and being delivered soda in an already open can with an unfamiliar taste gave us weird vibes service is sometimes strong other times inattentive
Everything was just average italian fare and pizza took a while to get to the table although there were only 3 other tables sitting in the restaurant so the timing was bad. Food were so boring and presentation lackluster. Probably needs a revamp of the whole menu to rekindle some of what was lost. A long time patron since during the pandemic just musing about good old times
***Happy hour warning!***Ugh I wanted to love you, Barbalu! I thought you'd be a favorite spot added into rotation in the neighborhood. Your mushroom cavatelli is sooo good and your cocktails are bomb. Loved dinner so much, brought some friends back for happy hour. Ordered negronis ($10 on HH) & was quoted a list of gins to choose from - yum! We later saw we were charged full price $16 instead of $10 and flagged it, but were told too bad that's what we ordered. Okay, got it, bait and switch. If that's your style, no thanks. Yes, $16 is standard for cocktails, so just be honest about it! I don't think they're hurting, and even so, that's a shiesty business practice, especially since we brought it to their attention and they just dismissed it. If you're going for dinner, enjoy, but happy hour friends, skip it - not worth the shady annoyance on a Friday after a long week.
Food was pretty uninspired. Pizza was like any other Neapolitan pizza and pasta was pretty small and average too. Vibe was very quiet and empty
The homemade spaghetti carbonara was a huge disappointment. Carbonara should be rich, eggy, and a little salty. This was thin, bland and even a little sweet. The Pancetta was raw, instead of crisped as it should be. Overall a very disappointing pasta. And absolutely no attention from the server. When I took no more than a couple of bites, no one asked how my food was. They simply presented the check.
Pizza is not that great. Your just paying for a fancy over rated restaurant. The server was not very tentative to our table. Water was warm. No ice or anything considering it's summer time. I guess you have to explicitly ask for ice cold water.
It was pretty busy on the weekends. The food came fast. We had fried calamari + shrimp and Squid ink Tonnarelli mixed seafood, both are amazingly delicious worth all the calories, highly recommended. But sadly the thin slices of pork guanciale in Bucatini Amatriciana was sour in a weird and bad way(imo it should taste salty and flavorful), the pasta and sauce was good. So we only ate the pasta but not the guanciale. The server apologized and offered the coffee for us. But at the end they forgot and we paid full price for sour guanciale anyway. Probably visit again for the pizza, not guanciale for sure lol.
They did NOT honor a table reservation at 3:30pm on a weekday. When I walked in, I was told they have closed for dinner prep which is fair, but then they should not have confirmed the reservation in the first place. I rode a subway all the way from uptown Manhattan to dine here. On top of this, the host was pretty curt and there wasn't even a hint of apology or empathy in his behaviour. Quality of service does not begin or end with food.
Full disclosure- I didn't have any food from this place. I chose this restaurant to cater a 15-person event. After calling the restaurant 7 times, I sent an email detailing the order. I was told someone would return my call within the hour. Three hours later, I called again, finally speaking with the owner's son. After repeating the order I'd emailed earlier, he informed me he couldn't process a payment until the next morning. I requested a call by 10 am. (After such unresponsiveness, I needed to be sure the catering was confirmed and thus far, I didn't have any confidence in the staff.) The owner’s son told me of have to wait until 11:30 to make a payment. Frustrated by the lack of professionalism and overall attitude, I informed him I would choose a different restaurant. Maybe it’s a decent eat-in restaurant, but for delivery and catering, do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere where it's appreciated.
I went here with my hubby for Valentine's Day dinner. I had a reservation. The customer service was terrible. 30 minutes passed since we sat down and no one came by to place our order until I raised my hand. One of the waiters was busy talking to the bartender instead of attending to the customers. I noticed couples and group of people that came after us were helped first and given bread immediately. This place clearly caters to racially privileged couples and groups first. Food was mediocre. We ended up not having a good dinner. I don't usually leave comments, but had to do because I don't want other people experiencing what I did. Do better!
