Every time that i eat here, i love it more, exlent steaks, one of the best Cream Burlee i ever had, highly recomended.
Excellent, Excellent service. Food was wonderful!! Waitress and staff were great!! Prices were reasonable, and the food was excellent!! I would recommend this restaurant anytime. Tom Sullivan.
It's always delicious. I like to sit in their atrium area. I can eat a lovely meal and watch NYC pass by in front of me. The service is wonderful and so is the wine.
Very nice ambiance and service. The large sirloin steak is tremendous and they cooked all three of our steaks perfectly to order. Escargot was great as well.
Very nice restaurant offering a large choice of wines and tasty dinner options. There is a different menu for brunch/lunch that I have not tried but would definitely go again to try it!
Wonderful steaks and other French food at acceptable prices. That service here is always excellent, and the preparation and presentation darn near perfect. This is an absolute neighborhood gem.
Absolutely delicious ribeye for $30! Attentive staff with a great (and affordable) wine recommendation. Quiet enough to have a conversation but lively enough to bring you back.
Service was great. No surprise that their namesake were very nice cuts. Prices not as bad as you would expect in NYC. Will definitely dine again.
Wonderful staff, good environment. Never had a problem with this place. Would recommend this place to anyone. Oh, it has a bar too where you can grab a drink or two.
Ugh I loved this place! Food and service was great! It's a little more expensive than I would like, but it's worth going once in a while
Excellent!! Staff is friendly and accommodating. Food is always terrific very consistent. Highly recommend this neighborhood Bistro.
Amazing filet mignon, wine and mash potatoes. The sauce that came with the steak was the best part. Service was great as well. Will return
I went here with some very special people and had quite a nice time. The food is magnificent and the staff knows their stuff.
I love this place! We eat here 3-4 times month. The food is excellent and the service is the best.
I always have a great experience here. The food is consistently good and fresh. The service makes it a neighborhood gem.
One of the best places to get an excellent filet mignon! Professional and seasoned staff make the experience even better.
Fresh delicious food on the upper East Side.We had Shrimp Brochette, Ssuteed Perch and steak for lunch All were excellent.
A excellent but understated restaurant. Wonderful beef and good wine at a reasonable price!
A very nice place, delicious food and great hospitality 👏🏻 And the Stone Castle Wine was just perfect :)
Very nice east side French restaurant. Good service and a varied menu. Fairly priced, but not inexpensive. Small intimate setting with a local atmosphere. Worth visiting.
We ordered take out here because of COVID. Prior to that, we’ve dined in and always had a great experience. The food is always perfect and steaks cooked as ordered. Happy to report the take out results are much the same as dine in. Steaks, cooked perfectly. Appetizer of calamari was fried very well and didn’t have any sogginess from being put into a take out container. Salad was great as well; not soggy or wilted. Service at the take out window was great as well. They even offered me hand sanitizer after signing the check. Give take out a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Best dining experience on the Upper East Side hands down. This place has an Old World New York feel something that's been missing Lately from the area. It's a family-run business and a manager is always on staff. Dining here is always a treat, food is always fantastic and the bartenders really know how to make a good drink. The owners walk around checking in on you making sure everything is up to your standard and once you've gone a few times they remember you. You become a part of the family so to speak.
Had the scallops and shrimps in potato nest. Very hearty and filling. Scallops were cooked nicely and shrimps were big and juicy too. So that plus the sauce and the fried potato sticks - omg. My sister had the shrimp scampi. Def on the heavier side too but I loved it. Scampis tend to be too light for my liking. They def used a lot of tomato so it was light but at the same time pretty heart and filling. Overall I loved the good. I came in and the bartender smiled so brightly I became even happier cause of him! Service was good. There weren't many people but still. I'd come again for sure. Upscale without the fuss.
We had an incredible time at this neighborhood icon. We've been enjoying the food here for nearly twenty years now. Always consistently good, both service and food. Niko is the quintessential restaurateur! We will continue coming back, again and again.
Salmon Teriyaki was well cooked but still nice and soft, and the teriyaki glaze on top tasted great. Additionally, the service was excellent. The waiter was always checking to make sure everything was good at our table whenever he walked by.
I have been eating at BLS for close to 20 years and to-date, have never had a bad experience. The steak, and other food is always cooked perfectly, the staff is nice. Probably the best crab cakes in the city.
New Year's Eve, busy, appetizers lacking flavor, however Chilean Sea Bass and lamb shank were wonderful. Would go back less busy evening.
The filet mignon couldn’t have been cooked anymore perfect. A true 10. You know what else was a 10? The service. The waiter and hostess staff was incredibly friendly, not over bearing, patient and helpful. A real understated neighborhood gem.
Still my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food is a wonderful quality and fairly priced. The ambiance is older world New York. They don't change themselves to suit today's trends.
The food was very good...the service was very good and the cuts of meat were fabulous....my wife and I enjoyed ourself
Just moved it the area so it was our first time here. Very attentive service and wine list was great. Food was good too although it wasn’t superb. Oysters weren’t their specialty so they were disappointing in variety, size and way they serve them. Salad was great. Hostess was really nice and welcoming.
Said was great. Crabcakes were amazing. The better half ordered halibut and I had steak fries. The food came out hit. Fully stocked bar. A wider variety of deserts would be great. Good atmosphere.
The staff was extremely kind and attentive, they made sure we heard all the options available including off menu specials. The atmosphere is very quaint and definitely a vintage vibe in here but a very chic and scenic spot. The food was very good and craftfully prepared. There is large regard for service here and the manager is present and attentive to how his guests are being treated. We had the pleasure of having Hugo as our waiter and he was just wonderful. Extremely detailed and mindful, his timing was perfect and he was genuinely interested in whether or not we were enjoying ourselves. Definitely deserves a shoutout. My only critique, and this could be coincidence, is that all of the guests that were of diverse backgrounds were neatly tucked away into the back in their charming booth areas, and not offered a seat at the front in the window side tables they have. Granted tonight there were many couples which may be why they tucked us away but even after asking for a window seat we were politely advised that those tables were reserved for 4, but there were plenty of parties of two that were white seated at the front. So if this was a coincidence then I would say that overall we had a good experience, but if this was intended on purpose then I would encourage the management to be more forthcoming and placing all their paying guests in the front so they do not feel undervalued.
If you find yourself on the East Side in the 70's looking for a handsome place to grab a bite late in the day, look no further. A delicious pear salad followed by a bowl of pasta hit the spot. Friendly service, nice company. Folks were walking in with reservations, I spent quality time at the bar watching Nicole Wallace and her posse.
Service here was good and so was the food. It was unfortunate to learn the steak comes with potatoes OR a vegetable and not both but that's alright. The hostess seemed like she had no desire to be there at all and gave us a very dirty looked when we answered, "no" to her question, "do you have a reservation?" It was not crowded when we went so I don't know why she seemed to angry when we said we did not have a reservation. When we said, "no" she literally said nothing and made the same facial expression one would make if I had said, "your mother is very fat." It was odd. When we left, I politely told her to have a good night as I do when I leave any restaurant and she just stared at me with a look of, "I have no desire to be here." I recognize that being a hostess is not always a glamorous job and often they deal with angry patrons complaining about the wait or some other issue. She likely was not experiencing hostile customers on this night as since I stated above, it was not crowded. The hostess is the first face people see when they walk into a restaurant and they should be welcoming even if they find their life to be miserable. It's part of the job. Anyway… I would return here though I'm in no rush. Like I said, the food and service was fine but nothing about this steakhouse was so over the top where I would tell my friends, "you HAVE to go here." But if you want good steak, and good service at a place that is not as expensive as some of the more top tier steakhouses, surely you won't be disappointed. Also, they provide a free bread basket on the table which I always like. The bread was average. And by average, I don't mean bad. It was bread and it was fine. Just nothing to brag about.
Great atmosphere especially on the patio...less so inside. Great steaks and service. Don't get tuna tartare! It is NOT sushi quality.... But I suppose getting tuna in a"steak" place makes no sense anyway.
Looks old-fashioned, but the food is amazing! I HIGHLY recommend the scallops -- such a delicious preparation. Definitely a hidden gem - often overlooked because it looks old. They need to update their decor and exterior.
Staff friendly also management. Was not too impressed with the steak. Undercooked had to send back. Was very fatty and frankly did not taste nice. My friend thought the same about hers . Expected better for the prices charged.
Good but not outstanding. They specialize in hamburgers and steak. Chicken dishes also pretty good. Prices very reasonable for the quality.
Nice neighborhood restaurant. We were 10 and sat in the extended part of the restaurant on the street side. It was lovely and service was terrific. I found my steak chewy and Dale had the steak sandwhich which she wasn't impressed with. French fries were soggy. Creamed spinach was great. Next time, I'll try the salmon. Note that the neighborhood fire house is down the block and during the 2 hours we were having dinner at least 6 fire trucks passed by with sirens blaring. Hmmmmmmmmm.
very pricey. I had a steak for $38 that came with frits. I asked the waitress are the frits really good ,she answered yes ,it was frozen fries that were cold. salad was good but was small and was $14 for spring mix shame on me. A 5oz cup of chocolate moose was $9 next time I should go to Newark for steak
This place is much nicer inside than it looks from the outside; service is charming and friendly and the tables full at all times; many diners are regulars. Stick to the classics such as steak, mussels or salade nicoise and you won't go wrong. Desserts were a bit hit and miss, but the barman knows what he's doing with the cocktails!
Writing this 2* review as a wake up call to the owner - As a long time neighborhood resident , BSL has been my Go To French place, at least at dinner hour. But recent experiences have given me a wandering eye. I won't be back unless there are no other options. to the Owner/ Mgr Do you honestly believe your food compares favorably with (Upscale Supermarket ) Citarella across the street? I don't Some mediocre/ overpriced experiences: 1) House salad w/quite wilted lettuce , likely prepped many hrs earlier. (Also, FYI - not everyone likes Mustard in their dressing. House dressings can be made very well without it) 2) Baguette now sourdough, not traditional . 3) Crabcake - consistency off + too many breadcrumbs. was there any crab? 4) 4 pieces of Shrimp for Cocktail -$17 (nice work if you can get it) Service: -Rushed, despite the restaurant being quite empty. busboys extremely excited to remove unfinished dishes
For a place with 'steak' in the title, the food was extremely disappointing. I asked for Medium rare, I got Medium and extremely tough meat, dry spinach and below average wine. I won't be returning, there are too many other places to go in the area.
It's not easy to serve a bad caesar salad. The au proivre sauce is not au proivre. The filet mignon was over burnt on the outside. The prices are reasonable but not worth it for this quality of food. Service was good and friendly. I am not from NYC. If I were, I would not come back.
Visited this place after the St. Patrick’s day parade. Waited for about an hour to get a set of burgers.... two neighboring tables got their apologies for waiting, and free desserts... we didn’t even get an apology, which I hope wasn’t due to our accents. Anyway, got a terrible experience overall.
I expected the place to be small but I did not expect it to be that cramped. The food does not taste good at all, save your money and go to McDonald’s. Don’t waste your money or time here!
Le steak? More like MISTAKE. The food was subpar, the portions were small & the service was slow. Not to mention, the waiter was exceptionally rude. Could have gotten a better meal at Applebee's.
My 8 year old said it should be called La Stink!!!!!!! The calamari was not good the garlic bread looked like a hero you buy from a supermarket that was cut into pieces and spreaded out on a white plate with some white sauce sloppily poured in the middle Oh I don't want to forget the bread was burnt a few pieces. If it starts off like that we had no other choice but to pay for what we didn't finish and leave gracefully 20$ was enough I wasn't going to pay for a steak if the apps we're so terrible. 👎👎👎👎 Won't be going back there no time soon. Maybe someone else & they're family will do better. Good luck😎
Waitress had bad attitude and paid no attention to detail, got two out of 3 orders wrong. Food was sub par and made one of our party members sick. DO NOT GO HERE. NYC has numerous other, wonderful places to dine at, spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
